The Quinta may not be as traditional 5 Star as others such as Reids Palace, but is the place to come where you are made to feel as if you are a welcome visiting member of their family rather than a paying client. The atmosphere is fully professional, yet relaxed, no doubt created by the fact that the hotel is privately owned and not part of an international multi business organisation. We had a wonderful week here a garden oasis in the middle of a city and can't wait to return.
The most amazing hotel. We went on honeymoon here and the staff couldn’t have done any more to make it so perfect. The hotel was spotlessly clean with good pool facilities and a range of drinks. Breakfast had good options with both hot food on request and continental options. The staff were absolutely fabulous and couldn’t have been more attentive and welcoming. Thank you all so much!
Great location, 10 mins walk to the centre of Funchal. Room was amazing, comfortable bed, great views of the stunning garden, nice and quiet. Bathroom fully equipped. Staff were just simply amazing, so helpful and kind throughout the hotel. Reception staff couldn't be more helpful, dedicated staff to help plan events for your stay who was so so helpful and sweet. Really made my birthday special. Staff in the bar and restaurant were polite and kind too. Pool outside we only used once but it was lovely and refreshing after a long day. Rooftop pool is a perfect addition, nice place for an afternoon snooze (ask my husband) We had breakfast here, it was delicious. Many yoghurt, fruit, pastries available and then you order your hot food. Perfect! Could not recommend this place enough. I really enjoyed my stay. Thank you!
Just returned from a week at this lovely hotel. Before we chose our holiday in Madeira I had a fantasy about the type of hotel I wanted to stay in and when I saw Sao Joao on line I immediately recognised this as the hotel I wanted to experience. Traditional, roomy and beautiful. On arrival my partner and I were treated with care and respect and we were pleasantly surprised to an upgrade to a spacious suite overlooking the garden to the faraway hills. We used many of the facilities, the gym, the indoor pool and sat around the outdoor pool area to catch a few rays. I was so impressed with the breakfasts and the helpful waiting staff who couldn't do enough for you. If I had one gripe it would be the traffic noise from the third floor balcony which overlooks the busy main road. I suspect it's quieter in other parts of the hotel. There is a 20 min walk into town but you pass two of our favourite eateries Maravilhas and Castelo hamburgers. Both great value and authentic food and very close by. Spent two weeks at this lovely hotel, rooms are incredibly spacious and well serviced by staff every day. I’m not a fan of shower curtains so would be nice to see these replaced where they are in existing rooms. Reception staff are really helpful with time spent helping us to navigate the online system for booking walks; the person on reception could not have been more helpful. Breakfasts and breakfast staff just fabulous, couldn’t have asked for more or better service. Such an array of lovely food, fruits, cold buffet etc. I took my own decaf coffee and it was fortunate I did as the quality of the sachets is not so good. We ate in the restaurant a couple of times again, great attention to detail and cooked food available; we didn’t find the menu on the wall until the last day. Less keen on the bar area and person behind the bar does not offer the same lovely service as staff everywhere else. Sadly! We hired a car, excellent garage space - car hire just across the road, very accessible. We didn’t use the hotel shuttle service and found the hill up to the hotel very accessible and good training for levada walks! Lovely gardens, two pools. This is a hotel that cares about customer service. We had an amazing two weeks, fell in love with Madeira and would definitely return to this hotel.
