The hotel is in a good location. The pool area is very nice. Breakfast was fine but no where near the best we have had on the island. Staff in general are helpful. Beware of false advertising. When you speak to the hotel they will tell you all their deluxe sea view rooms have a balcony. They do not! When discussing the issue reception staff were sympathetic and recognised that we had been given incorrect information. On getting involved, the manager was simply one of the rudest men I have ever met. He was only interested in deflecting the issue. Spoilt our stay and without doubt our least favourite hotel in Madeira. ( we have visited over a dozen times). On returning from our holiday have emailed the hotel several times. Haven’t even had the courtesy to reply. I have given the management and owner 6 weeks to reply to my concerns before going public with my review. Very disappointing Edited following owners comment below Well from the comments below it is clear who trained your manager! You have received emails with photos of the sub standard room, photos of the messenger conversations with your hotel which includes a clear lie ( confirmed by your staff). You have chosen to not reply- rude and unprofessional. We asked for no upgrade, we asked for what we booked for. I note on other reviews that are not positive you revert to abuse. Good luck in your business, sadly I can see it travelling in only one direction. Very dangerous thing to do is to abuse your customers. You don’t know who they are ! I feel for the lovely staff in the hotel who have to work for you and your manager. Photos added of the threadbare curtains, tiny bathroom in what was paid for as a deluxe double bedroom. The only truth was that it had a sea view! Photo of our booking Photo of message from hotel. Been coming to the island for well over 10 years. Never experienced rudeness like yours!

We had an incident during our stay at Hotel Orca Praia (Funchal). At arrival to the hotel, we left our luggage in the luggage storage room next to the reception. When we returned to the hotel, to access our room, my partner’s luggage had been taken by mistake by another guest who left to travel to the south of Germany. As a result of this, my partner spent 7 days (the entire holiday) without his clothes and belongings. The hotel did not acknowledge any wrong doing on their part, despite the lack of system to identify luggage at the storage room and to securely handle the luggage to their owners. My partner had to buy some clothes with our own money. The hotel director was dismissive in email communications. He showed an extremely poor customer service and lack of empathy. We did not receive an apology from their side except from one member of the reception staff. I had never had such terrible treatment as a customer. I do not think this is appropriate for a public establishment, let alone a 4-star hotel. I would never stay here again!
Really great stay in a hotel that's a bit off the beaten track. Great breakfast, very friendly staff and really nice pool area that always has loungers available. There is also direct access to the beach and the walkway if you want to go for a stroll. Evening animations were good fun. Prices are very favourable too. Would recommend if you are looking for something a bit quieter that's still within reach of the main towns. The restaurant beside is also a gem !
This hotel is a hidden gem right next to funchal city centre. The views are lovely as the hotel is right on the beach and the staff are super friendly. A special thank you to Davide who was super attentive and understood all of our special birthday/ anniversary requests where needed. Another special thank you to Deepak / yagya and Nice at the pool and bar area as they were very welcoming / approachable and very nice staff to have at the hotel when we needed any food / drinks. Thank you so much for a wonderful stay. Thank you, kishan patel room 605
If you wish to avoid the hustle and bustle of downtown Sao Martinho - Lido area, this hotel is a good choice. Nestled in a cliff means all rooms have great views of the coastline and the sea. The rooms are spacious for a hotel of this category and most come with big balconies. Beds are comfortable and service is attentive. Wifi can be sketchy at times and not all presented television channels are actually avilable, but they do have them neatly listed, which helps. Breakfast has a good choice for all flavours and it keeps being refilled. You may sit well after the advertised end-time. You can choose between the big pool or the ocean, as it is one of the very few spots on the island with a natural black sandy beach. Apparently, due to towel theft, towels are issued at reception against a receipt - an understandale measure, although if that could be done at the pool side, it may be easier for some. You can walk along teh Ocean Esplanade to Praia Formosa or Camara de Lobos (the adjacent commune), or take the bus outside the hotel. All in all, a decent adults-only place, which is quiet and a bit off the beaten track.
