Top location for the expo, literally a 10-minute walk. Pretty nice rooms with a decent bed. The shower was a bit of a flop, though—washing up meant flooding the whole bathroom. Unfortunately, the train tracks are super close and the noise makes it pretty hard to sleep. Breakfast was fire, though! The price , total daylight robbery

I stayed at five Novotel hotels during my recent trip across Europe, including locations in Bern (Switzerland), Prague (Czech Republic), Mannheim (Germany), and Strasbourg (France). Unfortunately, this was by far the most disappointing Novotel experience of the trip. The first thing we noticed was the room size. We were traveling as a family of four, and the room was significantly smaller than the rooms at every other Novotel we stayed in. It felt extremely cramped, with very little space to move around. Even the toilet was so close to the wall that it was uncomfortable to use. Another disappointment was the lack of a water dispenser on each floor. Every other Novotel we visited provided easy access to drinking water, but here there was only a glass water container at reception, and it was often removed or empty later in the evening. The customer service, especially from the night reception staff, was also below expectations. They were not very welcoming, rarely smiled, and gave the impression that guests were an inconvenience rather than being greeted warmly. This was quite different from the friendly and professional service we experienced at the other Novotel hotels. The cleanliness of the bathroom could also be improved. We found sand on the bathroom floor upon arrival, and the towels had an unusual smell, which did not leave a good impression. One small detail we also noticed is that every other Novotel we stayed in had a distinctive, pleasant signature fragrance in the lobby that made the hotel feel fresh and welcoming. This property didn’t have that atmosphere. It didn’t smell bad, but it lacked the inviting ambiance we’ve come to associate with the Novotel brand. Overall, this was the weakest Novotel we stayed at during our European trip. While the location may work for some travelers, the small rooms, inconsistent cleanliness, lack of amenities, and less welcoming service made it the least enjoyable stay compared to the other Novotel properties we visited. Edit: Room service or someone with master card open the room on us at 10:56 of the day of checkout, no knocking on the door or anything, check out at 12 noon :(((( -she said excuse me and got it out… what the heck !!!!!
Spacious room at a wonderful price. The hotel is a 4* one without the typical high price, additional perks with Accor membership - one of the best membership deals around. Service is good and delivered all my prior requests (not guaranteed, but that's fair enough). Parking is free on the ground level, but chargeable in the basement garage (€3/hour, €20 day parking, €22 overnight parking). Recommended for a cozy stay.
Overall, my stay was comfortable and I have no major complaints regarding the room or the facilities themselves. However, I wanted to highlight a specific experience with the night staff that was quite disappointing and inconsistent with the service I usually receive. On the night of 26 March, around 11:00 PM, I approached the front desk to request a late check-out for 2:00 PM the following day. Despite my Accor Gold status, the staff member on duty insisted I pay a 30 Euro fee, so we eventually settled for 1:00 PM just to avoid the charge. This was particularly frustrating because when I checked with the morning staff the next day, they granted the 2:00 PM check-out immediately without any issue. It is disappointing that the night staff was either unaware of membership benefits or unwilling to apply them. Following that initial discussion, we went to the snack and drinks corner to collect our three daily complimentary items. Usually, this is a seamless process where we show our selection to the reception and get the go-ahead. However, this same staff member did not seem to know about this policy and rudely insisted that we pay. While he eventually admitted he didn't know the procedure, he offered no apology for his tone or the misunderstanding. It was clear that this specific individual was not familiar with hotel procedures or loyalty benefits and could certainly benefit from further training. While the rest of the stay was pleasant, this interaction was a significant letdown.
