The hotel itself was great overall, except for the atmosphere outside, which is made up for by proximity to the main train station. However I had such frustrating experience on my last night that I think is worth sharing. I had been out for the evening and intentionally headed back to the hotel for dinner, expecting to eat at the on-site restaurant before it closed. I checked the posted hours ahead of time and arrived with time to spare, so I was surprised when I got there and was told the kitchen was closing early because only one staff member was on. Having planned my whole evening around eating there, that was a letdown. I asked the front desk if I could still use my 15% off coupon at the bar, and they gave me a coupon for a complimentary glass of wine as well. When I went to use it at the bar, I was told the free glass coupon couldn't be redeemed because I hadn't ordered dinner, and that the 15% off coupon was also invalid for the same reason. The only reason I ordered wine at the bar in the first place was the free glass coupon. When I asked to close my tab, the bartender offered to bring me one more, and I agreed thinking I still had 15% off. Both glasses ended up at full price. The staff were pleasant throughout, but the coupon terms should have been communicated up front, especially given that I wasn't able to have dinner there in the first place. It left me feeling like I'd been nudged into spending more than I intended.
I recently returned to the Garden Inn for a short one night stay. The hotel is still a very fair and good choice for everyone looking for an uncomplicated stay close to the city centre. Surely the entire hotel is not the newest but you can see that the hotel puts in a lot of effort to keep a high standard. Our room was very clean and well maintained. Although we did not expect to be able to open the windows at all we were able to open one of them. Only a little bit but just enough for fresh air which was really important to us. Considering this the hotel should make sure to be highly transparent because we were told upfront that the windows cannot be opened at all and we sometimes cancel a stay due to that. We enjoyed the cleanliness of the bathroom and the rain shower a lot. The breakfast offers a lot of fresh choices and we also enjoyed that very much. What stood out to us was the friendliness of the two woman working during the same shift at the front desk. Both of them were really kind, welcoming and obliging. Overall the value for money at the Garden Inn is really good and despite being close to the central station area we would definitely come here again.
John and Mohammed made the bar at the Hilton very welcoming. They treated us like long time friends. The front desk staff was also wonderful. They went out of their way to help us address a mechanical issue with the window shade in our room. The room itself was very clean, modern decor and perfectly quiet.
An almost perfect stay, slightly tarnished by a questionable receptionist. I arrived at this hotel unexpectedly after a difficult day when my wallet was stolen in the street, I needed a peaceful, reliable and welcoming place to rest. That’s exactly what I got on the first night. The two men at the reception, the staff at the bar, the breakfast team, were all incredibly kind and efficient, highly recommended. The room was very clean, spacious and overlooking an interior courtyard, also very well soundproofed because I did not hear anything during my stay. Room-service was fast, food and cocktails excellent. Same for breakfast, many sweet and savory choices and even waffles and french toast. Everything was so perfect that I had a wonderful stay despite the circumstances, they really offered me a beautiful moment of calm. I was going to leave in a good mood and delighted, until the check-out. I drop off my room card and tell the woman at the reception desk that I also had to pay for yesterday’s drinks at the restaurant because my card had been locked for security reasons and so the payment hadn’t been made. Instead of cashing in on me normally, she said very loudly and in front of everyone "yes, I have to charge you because your card was declined MUTIPLE TIMES" I have a lot of trouble understanding the usefulness of this remark, especially when I was coming to pay... Then I engaged the virtual unlock of my card from my phone to pay, which must have taken too long for her because she told me "I don’t know what you’re looking at on your phone but to pay it's with this device here" while showing me the POS terminal. I explained that I needed to unlock my card from my banking app, to which she replied: "I was just trying to figure out what you're doing." This condescending tone, paired with an inappropriate and unfair attitude left me with a bitter taste and I left on a wrong note even though the rest of my stay was magnificent in every way. Of course, it depends on who you fall onto, this woman was clearly not up to par with all the other staff members I met and whom I thank again for their kindness.
