Itinerary
As the audio guides play commentary based on your gps location, you can create your own itinerary along the tour route(s) to match your interests and schedule. Or you can use our trip planners for our suggestions on half, full or multi-day itineraries. Some of the many highlights are listed below
The Bahia Honda State Park is rightly considered the best beach in the Florida Keys and ranks in the top 10 of all beaches in the USA. On a nice warm day, this is absolutely a recommended stop for a cooling swim or even just to get some sand and water between your toes.
One of the Key's nicest beaches on the Lower Matecumbe Key. There's 300 feet of newly replaced boardwalk that provides access to different areas of the beach where the water is almost always, warm, clear, and calm. Even a worthwhile stop for a photo if you don't feel like swimming.
Located in the heart of Old Town Key West, lies the Ernest Hemingway House and Museum. America's iconic author called Key West his home for 10 years. Tour inside the house and gardens to learn more about his books, 4 wives, and children and see the 40 polydactyl cats that are descendants of his famous white six-toed cat, Snow White.
The tiny endangered Key Deer are now found exclusively in the Florida Keys. They are good swimmers, perhaps allowing them to survive hurricanes like Irma. Today, vehicle collisions are the number one threat, so you'll see slow driving zones to help protect them, especially around Big Pine Key.
You might be surprised to learn the vibrant town of Key West was once the largest city in all of Florida. Being only 90 miles from Cuba and on major shipping routes from South America, Key West is a unique fusion of American, Cuban and Latino cultures. The architecture is beautifully stylish. The streets are lively and there are quite a few recommended places to visit on this compact island.
Why should Parks just preserve what is on land? The John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park was the first in the US to be designated as an undersea park. It covers about 70 nautical square miles with terrain ranging from mangrove swamps to shallow-water coral and deep-sea reefs, ideal for scuba diving. Visitors to the park can snorkel with multitudes of fish while exploring the Christ of the Deep Statue and even the remnants of an old Spanish shipwreck.
The tiny 5 acre Pigeon Key played a pivotal role for railroad workers building the final stages of the Florida East Coast Railway's Overseas Railway project, which would connect passengers from New York to Key West, and even continue by boat to Havana, without ever leaving the carriage. The Old Seven Mile Bridge passed right through the island which served as worker's homes and camp. After taking a battering after Hurricane Irma, bridge reconstruction continues for those hoping to walk to Pigeon Key once again. Access currently is by short ferry boat ride starting from the visitor center in Marathon, and is an added bonus.
Seven Mile Bridge is the longest of the bridges on the Overseas Highway. You will truly feel like you are floating over the water. It's a great, interesting photo stop, especially from the Marathon side. We will catch views of the historically significant Pigeon Key from the bridge as we drive by.
Recently re-opened for walking, biking, and fishing
The world's first dedicated Turtle Hospital was created on Marathon, by converting an old motel. Turtles who have been rescued from boat collisions, plastic bags and more are brought to the hospital to be treated and in most cases, ultimately released back into the ocean.
The longest of the Florida Keys and the first Key we will arrive on when leaving the USA mainland. 3 of the most popular stops on Key Largo are the Caribbean Club, John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park and the African Queen. Two of these locations have had Hollywood inspiration. Divers and even snorkelers will find many interesting features to explore in the clear, warm waters.

We have done many of these audio guides for driving tours on your own. This was one of the least helpful. It didn’t really give you good ideas of where to stop or what you were gonna see.
The self guide tour was very informative. It provided good commentary and information along the route and possible place to stop or visit. We used the tour from Key West to Key Largo and back and the in downtown Key Largo for information regarding places to see in Key West and their exact location. I was not sure if a self-guided tour would be that good but i was surprised by it's accuracy and narration. I would definitely recommend this tour and would consider purchasing other tours in the future.
The tour was super helpful with clear driving directions and narrator was great. The restaurant recommendations not so much. The Sunset grill may have been good in the past but our experience with four different meals was not good. While the patio was nice, the food quality was very poor. Hopefully that recommendation will be removed from the itinerary.
I've never purchased an audio tour before, but it was money well spent. It took a few minutes to get set-up (not very tech-savvy), but we figured it out. The narrator was entertaining and we were impressed the landmarks for directions were still in place. It made the long drive very entertaining and we learned a lot about the history of the area, sites, and restaurants. (Sunset Grill by the 7-mile bridge was great and breath-taking views)
We really enjoyed the narrator and the information given about the area, as well as info on the stops.
It was a good experience. It worked as advertised and the narrator combined humor and information with a good balance. We learned a lot in the 200 mile trip to Key West we would never have known if we had not purchased the guoed audio tour.
The tour is interesting but does have periods of silence between narratives. Hopefully they will add more sites along the way. They mentioned Crane Point as a birdwatching spot but it is so much more. So info may be limited in other areas too. Even so, interesting for a relatively low price
The narrator provided a lot of interesting facts along the way. He added humor and made the drive very entertaining. We would definitely recommend him to others and will use again.
We are so glad we purchased this app. It made the trip from Miami to Key West so much fun! Great information and helpful stops to truly love the experience. Well done!!
Really interesting narrative and easy to use. We went from Miami to Key West and back on two different days. Stopped Rain Barrel Village that the app recommended, took the educational tour of The Turtle Hospital in Marathon, went on a Glass Bottom boat tour in Key Largo. Had a great time!
Could never get the self guided tour to work.
The GuideAlong tour of the Florida Keys is informative and amusing. We listened to it in both directions - when driving I'm not always paying close attention to the dialogue! It hits just about all of the main sights and has great directions which are important since it's basically a 2 lane road much of the way!
This audio tour was truly a delight to adults and teens alike. Truly fascinating details and worked well with GPS. Will do this again for my next trip.
The guide was very informative. Always let us know when we should be turning way ahead of time. Kind of funny but not obnoxious. I would highly recommend to anyone doing a road trip to get this app.
It was nice to hear the history of the keys as we went along. Also gave some good recommendations on where to stop.
Audio was very enjoyable. Lots of interesting facts to learn along the way. A little humor mixed in. Great audio!
His humor is welcomed on the trip. Interesting historical information. Would use one of these tours on a trip in the future. Would recommend to friends.
It was like having your own personal tour guide in the car with us. Good recommendations along the way.
It was very informative. Good information... Including stories. We liked the suggested stops. Easy to use once we got on it.
Great audio tour with so many fun facts and details. Loved it! The tour guide narrator was funny and entertaining. So glad I read the other reviews that recommended this. It made our road trip much more interesting and fun.
What a great resource! So glad I purchased the audio tour for the Florida keys. It made the miles fly by while gaining wonderful information on things to do and see as well as learn about the history of the Keys. Plus the narrator was funny and easy to listen to. Will definitely consider another purchase for another road trip.
Great app! Very informative and interesting. Quite helpful and makes time go faster
The self guided tour was from Key Largo to Key West. The audio was great. The telling was well told with key points told as we drove along.
This audio tour exceeded my expectations. It worked flawlessly no matter how many stops we made. The commentary was so very interesting and the speakers voice was easy to listen to. What a great bargain way to experience all the highlights of the Florida Keys.
The narrator for this guide is very entertaining and keeps your interest. He points out little known things to see on the roadside and exactly where to turn. It's well worth every penny spent. This is the second get your guide that we have purchased and have thoroughly enjoyed each.
Excellent! So many cool stops he recommended and we hit all of them on our way down to key west. Learned a lot of history too. It's like having a little bestie with you and narrating and saying Oooh!! Stop here. Fantastic. Will look into this for other driving trips.
This is a really good guide with really good recommendations for stops along the way. We enjoyed it a lot and discovered places that were not on our list of stops to make but turned out to be a big hit.
My family was no so crazy about the idea of an audio tour while we drive the keys. But it was fantastic!!!! All 5 of us enjoyed it and got so much from it. We sometimes chose to pull off and sometimes just kept driving. It was nice to have that flexibility but learn so much about where we were. 100 percent recommend this!
This is a wonderful app. It’s easy to use and is like having a private tour guide sitting beside you. It knows where you are located and narrates with interesting stories and suggestions of points of interest to stop and visit. I highly recommend it recommend it to anyone traveling on there own.
This was some of the most worthwhile money I ever spent! The guide was so knowledgeable, engaging and funny. The commentary made the trip go faster and I feel we all learned so much! Plus, we saw sites as they were pointed out. Loved it!!!
What a great way to get to know the Florida Keys! This is the first time we have driven the Keys, we always took the boat. We traveled at our own pace and stopped to see what we wanted. And now we have recommendations for what to do on our next rip down. This was super informative and entertaining! Thanks!
We had a great day driving from Key Largo to Key West. The stories and suggested stops made for a great day with lots of pictures and stops we wouldn't have known to take.
This audio tour was informational and entertaining on our drive up the keys from Key West. Made the drive very enjoyable!
We drove from Boca Raton to key West. The narrator popped up every mile or so with some interesting things in the area. We actually listened to it coming and going. Plan to use this with other trips.
The audio tour was outstanding: highly informative and very entertaining. Prompted me to make a number of rewarding (but unplanned) stops along the way ... for great photo ops and for fascinating sights.
Very informative and enjoyable to listen to. I enjoyed the side trip information in addition to the main route.
Informative and helpful Loved that we could start and stop along the way. And redo the route on the return Used it multiple days
We had taken this beautiful ride to Key West, FL several years ago, but we enjoyed it even more this time having the narration from the self-guided auto tour. We learned things we never would have learned without the self-guided auto tour. It was easy to download in advance and easy to use along the way.
Very helpful when driving through a new area. We always wonder about what we’re seeing, but now we have a guide right in the car to help us out. I appreciate how it stops the music and gives a short delay prior to speaking. I also like that it will just start talking when we drive by an area of interest. It gives you options for places to stop and investigate as well as ideas for food and souvenirs. Would highly recommend!!!!
We've used Gypsy before with great experience and the Florida Keys version was equally excellent. Geolocator ensured we had relevant commentary at just the right time and place...and truly interesting commentary as well! Fully recommend it to anyone looking to get a deeper understanding of a new region without paying for an overpriced trolley or bus tour.
Very entertaining! Guide was knowledgeable and humorous. The GPS locator was spot on. We liked that we could stop and restart as needed.
Probably the best money spent ever. Excellent narration of the places we passed by. Highly recommended and would get it for other places I visit in the future.
Best $16 ever spent. The audio guide is a great way to drive from Key Largo to Key West. Lots of history, culture, geology discussed. Very informative!
This was such a wonderful introduction to the Keys. We especially loved the tour around Key West. Enjoyed the mix of historical facts, sightseeing tips and restaurant recommendations. App was extremely user friendly. Would highly recommend this audio guide!
Super easy to set up and great guidance for both ways of the trip from Miami to Key West. Lots of history of the area provided if you are interested in that. We stopped at a recommended tropical fruit stand we would never have known was there and the audio guide even suggested certain fruits that we had never heard of.
Audio tour was amazing - filled with so many tidbits of information and filled with ideas of cool places to stop. We stopped to do many of these things otherwise we would have driven right by! Highly recommend!!!
Very informative tape, allows you to enjoy sites you may not know about. I highly recommend this tape.
It was so fun to have the narrator on the trip with us. Enjoyed the history and the information on attractions and food. You should definitely take the turnoff for the key deer, and on that turnoff take the turnoff for no name key. We found lots of deer on the no name turnoff.
Very entertaining and informative. We found a bunch of stops that we never would have seen if not for this tour guide. Would highly recommend.
