Marathon Key: 3-hour Snorkeling Adventure On A Pontoon At Sombrero Reef

It was a great experience for sure. Loved being in the ocean around the reef. Definitely recommend it.

Captain Candace and Tanner were great but unfortunately the weather was not our friend The water was VERY ROUGH Made for a VERY limited time in the water for me (65 yr old, first time snooker) My 16 year old granddaughter LOVED her time in the water Definitely a must do

It was a fabulous experience. So many different fish and corals. We will definitely do this experience again on our next trip to the Keys.

Great snorkel adventure! Captain Candace and First Mate Corey were awesome! Excellent stewards of the reef and super helpful to everyone. No condescension, very helpful and genuinely concerned that a good time at was had by all. And we did have a great time! Highly recommend!

Great experience! Loved snorkeling in Sombrero Reef. Our boat captains were fantastic and you can tell they loved what they do.

The tour operator and contact # were never provided and the meeting point was an empty parking lot behind Marathon City Offices. The parent company in N.J. switched me to another operator of a catamaran the following day which I could have done myself for almost half that price.

Didn’t show up & lied re refund timeline

I was over charged for the trip by booking through Viator. The price was double compared to booking straight through the snorkeling vendor.

Lack of communication from Viator or from Snorkle company. Text from one company reservation was with another. Almost missed it. Trip was great. Price through Viator was double what I would have paid going directly to company. I had good experiences throughout Greece Malta and Italy. Disappointmened this time.

Would have given it zero stars if I could. We were scammed. Given a pin on Google maps, no address, no one there when we arrived. No answer on the phone number. It was behind the City building. They were very sweet and said they've never heard of any tours there. So sad. Last day of vacation. Too late to get another tour. Reputable companies were sold out and very sweet. They said that they have never heard of this buisness. Zero contact information. Says based out of NY. Do NOT get tricked. After looking further, says 3 hour snorkeling cruise as title THEN, no snorkeling, 2 hour cruise- comes with snorkeling equipment! Haha. Out $178 for me and my 8 year old daughter. Trying to get a refund. Viator was easy to get on the phone and tried to call the company as well, no luck. Scammed, sad, and out a lot of money:(

Very fun afternoon. The reef was amazing, lots of fish! Quite choppy and cold but well worth it. Candace was so encouraging and patient with all the inexperienced snorkelers- if that’s you this is the trip to book

First time snorkeling and my son and I had a blast. Great place if you’re looking for a beautiful location for snorkeling. Captain Pip’s provides an awesome experience, genuine hospitality, even free snacks and drinks! Highly recommend!

This destination is one of the better snorkeling areas for variety and quantity of sea life. It's not far from shore so the trip there and back is just right.

Captain Sarah and her deck hand Jayel were great hosts with talent for providing valuable information with entertaining humor.

We had a Great Time with Captain Pips snorkel boat out to Sombrero Key. Staff Jaynell & the Captain was very good! Tropical all over, the reef looked to be in great shape! They had sodas & water before snorkeling & beer for after snorkeling. The Only Bad Aspect of this Trip. TripAdvisor / Viator charged $100.00 more than if you had gone through Captain Pips directly.

Captain Patrick and crew were great. Found a sea turtle 🐢 right where they said they would e. Had the best turtle encounter on this snorkel 🤿. The turtle just swam along side us just checking us out. Great visibility as well and tons of assorted fish.

Candice was not only an experienced captain but funny Tanner was very helpful and accommodating. Enjoyed the reef and the breaching dolphins on the inbound leg.

Captain Candace and first mate Corey did a great job of making this snorkel trip a safe and fun experience! They were extremely attentive and seemed to genuinely care about ensuring we were all very well cared for! The reef was breathtaking! If you want an amazing snorkel trip out of Marathon, you don’t want to miss this opportunity!

It was fun. Definitely a no frills snorkeling trip. Great if you have a big group. The captain and first mate were very pleasant and capable.

We had a great experience on the snorkeling excursion! James and Captain Patrick were very thorough, with some awesome humor mixed in. The snorkeling was good… nice coral and a good mix of fish. It was a perfect amount of snorkeling… Not too long, not too short We were provided with beverages and snacks as well… Which was a nice surprise.

Great experience! Our trip was cancelled due to high winds and easily rescheduled. Saw lots of amazing fish, coral, turtles. The crew was just great! We would definitely recommend Capt. Pip's.

Corey and Patrick were excellent in their roles of first mate and captain. Weather was beautiful and we saw many fish. They only charge $59 for their portion. Booking on trip advisor cost $129. Book direct.

Lee and Captain Stedman were terrific - water was a bit rough and my brother's mask leaked- Lee gave him his own mask to use. It made the trip. These guys are very customer focused -I'd definitely take another snorkeling trip with them!

They canceled on us with no explanation. They did offer to reschedule us for the next day, but that was the day we were leaving to go home.

The Captain and Mate were excellent! The water conditions were rough the day we went out but they did everything they could make the trip memorable and enjoyable. The reef is amazing. 100% would recommend this trip!

Amazing fish! Saw a loggerhead turtle! The ride was smooth and the crew was fun. My son and husband saw a sting ray. It was awesome!

Candace and Hope were awesome hosts. They took such good care of us and made safety a number one priority.

Booked on the 16.30 trip more than a week before due to go. We were travelling through Florida on a road trip holiday. The day before I got an email telling me it could only be 9am or 1pm. We couldn’t get to marathon for that time therefore requested a full refund. When the refund was paid, it was £35 short even though it Stass the same refund price in dollars. Have had no response to any emails requesting this is resolved, particularly given that it was the company that could not honour the original booking.

Amazing coral reef with an abundance of different fish species. Highly recommend a trip here! And our guides Rob & Jesse were top notch.

It was a really fun activity for us to do with our young adult kids. You have about a 30 minute boat ride out to the snorkeling spot. The water was warm and beautiful. We saw a bunch of colorful fish and a few barracudas. The captain and his assistant (Hope) were fun & informative. I definitely recommend! Be aware that if you sit in front, you’ll get wet headed out. They have baskets to put your bags in to keep them off the wet floor, but they’ll get splashed.

My snorkeling guide put in for a refund due to increment weather in the Keys Nd south Florida and I haven’t received my refund yet

Great snorkeling experience. Great boat and tons of fish to see. The staff was very helpful and safety first. Well worth it. Even saw a 5ft nerf shark.

Great captain Candice was a pleasure. Seas were high and we felt very comfortable knowing she wipe keep us safe.

We booked the snorkeling tour at the reef but it was too windy to go. Instead we got to visit an island where we could swim, snorkel, kayak or just hang out on the beach. We found lots of cool shells and saw lots of huge hermit crabs. The boat ride was fun on the tiki boat. Cody was great making sure everyone had a drink or snack. Captain Candace was awesome.

DO NOT BOOK THROUGH VIATOR - - this is less than half the price if you book through the tour operator directly or simply show up to the dock. Viator hosts Attractions4Us which will literally charge you more than double, and they will not refund you under any circumstance. But a great snorkeling trip.

We did not stay at Captain Pips but we did go snorkeling with them. The staff and experience were beyond exceptional!!!!! A third party booking platform that Tripadvisor is using cancelled our reservations w/o our knowledge the day of the excursion. The ladies at the front desk did everything in their power to get us on a boat and they succeeded. The experience underwater was breathtaking and the crew we sailed with went out of their way to make sure we had the best experience. Overall there aren't enough positive things I can say about the Captain Pip organization and our excursion that day!!!! They made our vacation for sure :)

Had a great day for snorkeling. Captain Rob and Hope were very polite, kind, knowledgeable, and just good people in general. Trustworthy company.

Lovely experience. Captain Candace and mate Cody were very friendly, personable and accommodating. Water was too rough to snorkel at intended location, so they gave us the option of canceling/rescheduling, or going to a different location. We chose to go to the small island that the company owns and although the snorkeling there is not fantastic, there were still interesting things to see and it was still a great experience overall.

When the water was rough and cloudy our crew took us on a lovely tour of the harbor. Was a really great day

There are much cheaper, snorkeling companies in Marathon that do the exact same trip as this company that charges $130 per person. Other companies were charging approximately $50 per person for a three-hour tour. The water current was really strong which was fine as long as someone would’ve told us prior to jumping in the water.

Very professional, good equipment if you need it, a lot of fun and very safety conscious. Captain Candace and Mate Jesse are the best.

What a great excursion this was! So many fish and even a turtle! Rob and Jessie were fantastic! I would highly recommend this trip. Sombrero Reef had tons of fish!!

What a great time Captain Rob and 1st mate (I have to apologize for forgetting the young ladies name) made us feel very welcome and comfortable. A short ride to the reef after a quick and thorough safety briefing. Crew on constant watch of the group and checking each person off and on the boat and whilst in the water. Once back on board lots of drinks handed round. Cannot rate this high enough. Great trip and a great crew

I booked it through TripAdvisor and the reservation never made it to Captain Pips - when we arrived to check in our names were not listed on the excursion I booked and paid for. I showed them the email I received with the booking # and stating we were good to go. The staff at Captain Pips were remarkable - they apologized- even though it was not their fault and explained although booked through TripAdvisor. - TripAdvisor sold it off to a third party and there was no way for them to confirm anything as they did not have access to the third parties computer system. Thankfully, there was still room on the pontoon, so we booked again - directly - for $100 less as well mind you and had a fabulous time - I am still fighting the charge - hopefully will be reimbursed for what was bit provided - would be nice to be compensated for the extra outlay of cash and aggravation- we shall see
