I did the self guided tour with helpful suggestions from Val at the front desk. The museum is small but well laid out. I really learned a lot. I thought the section on Black history was thought provoking and I loved the exhibit on the Seminoles. I think there is potential to turn the story of the Ashley Gang into much more of an interesting feature. Maybe that’s just me though. I’d recommend spending about 70-90 minutes here. For a small local museum, this was a winner for me.
Great experience! From the check in with Wanda, she gave us a perfect explanation of the tour and let us know what was available for us. We picked the selfguided tour and she made sure we saw everything. She was very sweet and attentive. Will be back again.
I thoroughly enjoyed the tour and the museum. Dan and Val were very hospitable, professional, and lovely to meet. The tour and museum had a wealth of history and knowledge. I enjoyed Dan as a tour guide and leaned into every word. I would definitely go again and alot more time for myself to explore and read the exhibits I didnt get to read in depth. I truly loved my time visiting. Such a gorgeous museum to visit and learn about the history of Fort Lauderdale.
such a nice place! the art work was so pretty!
Milton and David are wonderfully welcoming hosts! Very knowledgeable, accommodating, and funny! We were only here for a day and it was the perfect way to spend it. I would definitely would recommend this for anyone interested in learning more about the city.
I really enjoyed the tour of the three History Fort Lauderdale museums with Daniel Smith. He is incredibly knowledgeable and shares fascinating facts with warmth and enthusiasm. Such a kind, welcoming person—a wonderful guide who brings local history to life! Many thanks also to the entire museum staff for their kindness and care, and for keeping the museum complex in such beautiful condition.
Such a beautiful home! I love this tour
Great experience! Beautiful place! Wanda was so sweet!
Awesome history of the beginnings of Ft. Lauderdale. I am really glad I took the time to do the tour and learn about the area.
Everyone was super friendly, I learned a lot and had a wonderful time. They helped me write an article for school on Viva Fort Lauderdale
I’m a FL local and took the tour to explore local history. Great value, perfect length and very interesting slice of life tools to see demonstrated from the 19th century. However, tour lacks inclusion of Black and Indigenous history, as the laborers who physically built Ft. Lauderdale. Focused primarily on 2 pioneer couples.
The guider tour is great and get to learn the history of the fort Lauder , highly recommend to everyone who visit!
Amazing place! Really informative, Wanda and Milton were great, highly recommend coming to check it out!
David gave a great tour guide! He was very knowledgeable about the area! Five stars!
Such a great learning experience, our tour guide David was very knowledge and kept us captivated the entire time.
It was entertaining and informative. I enjoyed my time there.
What truly made this visit unforgettable was Daniel. His kindness is exceptional, he welcomed us with a warm smile and a genuine hospitality that made us feel right at home. On top of that, his profound knowledge of local history is highly impressive. He also answered all of our questions with great patience and detail. People like Daniel truly make a difference and elevate the entire cultural experience. Highly recommended!
It was a fascinating experience hearing so many stories and learning so much in such a short time; this is definitely a place to visit here in Fort Lauderdale. Our host, Daniel Smith, perfectly complemented our visit, as he possesses vast knowledge regarding the history of the city's founding.
Was a amazing tour with Daniel, he was very kindly with us
There was a lot that i didn't know about Fort lauderdale and i would recommend doing a tour guide you will know a lot
My wife and I flew in a day before our cruise was to start and decided to go exploring part the city on the River Walk. We ran into this museum and decided to go in. We were not disappointed, our your guide David was excellent. Very informative and patient while we peppered him with questions. This listen is a good way to get a feel of the city as it was established and grew into the place it is today. The lovely lady at the front desk, Val, was very gracious as e we explored the museum after closing time. So much info, not enough time. Very nice museum.
Lovely time. Haven’t been in ages and cool to see things changed around!
My husband and I had a wonderful time! Mr. Baum gave a great tour and knew a lot of information! The staff were very kind and gracious. The exhibits were informative and helped us to appreciate the fullness of the history of Fort Lauderdale! 10/10 would visit again!
A wonderful educational experience for those wanting to learn more about Fort Lauderdale throughout the years. A great time for all ages. Excellent customer service from receptionist Val.
I had an Amazing Visit. My family and I were greeted right away by the front desk personnel with warmth and amusement. The tour guide Daniel Smith, was very knowledgeable and gave us more insite into the lives of those who were one of the first pioneers of Ft Lauderdale. The experience of walking through history while Mr Smith spoke felt real and authentic as if we time traveled through history. I'm very grateful for this experience. It is a must do if in area. Please allow for approx 1-2 hrs of touring the hotel (main building) and the other buildings where the tour was held.
Milton was very helpful! Great.
The History museum had a lot we learned from about fort Lauderdale. Understanding the port references with US navy was interesting as well. Milton was a great guide !
We enjoyed our guided tour Sunday afternoon 1:00pm with Daniel. We listened to the historical stories, saw the artifacts from the traditional way of living, experienced the schoolhouse environment, and looked at the gallery. It is a great opportunity to slow down, listen, and reflect for a new perspective looking at the modern air conditioned city, Fort Lauderdale.
We had a wonderful experience learning the history of Fort Lauderdale. Our tour guide David was exceptional and our receptionist Val ensured we felt welcomed as soon as we arrived. Job well done and I would highly recommend visiting.
Our guide, David, was extremely knowledgeable and really made it feel like we were back in time. All of the pieces were well kept and accurate to the time period. I would highly recommend
As a true Floridian from Fort Lauderdale born and raised I’m embarrassed to say this was my first time visiting this museum at the age of 44. Man have I missed out on the true history of my hometown. The tour was very informative I was especially impressed with the Black in Broward section. It made me proud especially being a Dillard high school alumni and seeing it displayed. Ms. Val was an absolute joy with welcoming us and giving us a little history. She set the tone. Definitely come check it out especially as a native.
Absolutely amazing experience from the moment you walk in Val at the front desk offers a warm and inviting presence. The history is amazing to learn how Lauderdale has become the city it is today! All history buffs must stop by and experience the diversity of what made Fort Lauderdale.
Our guide, Dan, was fantastic and very informative! My dad and I enjoyed seeing the home, schoolhouse, and additional exhibits in the inn. Truly worth it! We learned so much about the area!

David was great tour guide! Learned alot from both the guide and the museum as well. Definitely recommend coming here. Lots of historical information about the history of the area.
I did the self guided tour on a Saturday afternoon. There are two floors of exhibits in individual rooms. The exhibits detail the history of Fort Lauderdale, from the Seminoles to Flagler’s railroad. The building is the first hotel in Fort Lauderdale, built in 1905.
Milton was great, he was really nice, told us the house history, which was very interesting, and the whole place looks taken care of really well. The entrance ti the first floor is free - it’s an art gallery. The history museum is on the second floor.
Excellent service and learning from David and Milton, completely recommended if you came to Fort Lauderdale.
Extremely helpful staff and great information source on Florida and Ft. Lauderdale. We brought our homeschool group and took a guided tour, it was wonderful!
Wonder and friendly staff! Excellent interactive experience!
Friendly staff and very knowledgeable.

As I walk in the museum it was a wonderful experience. The people super nice, helpful and friendly. The rooms have a lot of interesting and important information. It was great too see all the historical events that happen the audio they provide on the rooms and items from many years back. Definitely recommend it for those who love history and want to try something different.

Very interesting tour. Will come back again.
Milton was very helpful and our tour guide, David, was very knowledgeable. Definitely worth it.
