Did this several years ago, but always enjoy this tour. It gives you a great insight into history, various presidents who have been there, and the tour guides are very experienced with their knowledge. Great insight into Harry Truman, as a person and as a President.
Gary M gave a great tour. He's very knowledgeable about Harry Truman's background and the museum's history. He's witty abd answered everyone's questions. It was a great tour!
We enjoyed the tour. Our only complaint was that the fairly lengthy introduction was outside. It was a hot day (of course) and there were not enough fans or seating for all of guests allowed into the tour. But, the guide was very good and I appreciated learning more about Truman’s presidency and Key West history.
Tour was both educational and fun. Our guide, Bob, was fantastic, sharing many anecdotes about the residence and Trumans.
We really enjoyed our tour of the Truman House! Karl was a great tour guide and shared history we didn’t know about Key West and Truman. Well worth it!
Overall the experience was excellent. Admission fee was very reasonable given the history lesson we received from the visit. Our guide Joey was awesome - articulate, with an engaging depth of knowledge, very willing to share more detail when asked. Walked away with understanding of The Little White House, President Truman and his Administration’s accomplishments which included programs he started that we benefit greatly from to this day.
Great tour and great historian in Bob!! The place has been very nicely renovated and so thankful for the people who did all this work and continue to preserve our country's history and heritage!
Tour was very informative and well done. The home was interesting with lots of history. The guide provided many details about Truman that we were unaware of.
The home grounds are beautiful! All of the staff are friendly and knowledgeable, and I learned that I never knew about the house and Harry Truman. I would recommend this as a must see when in Key West.
Off the beaten path & a little quieter pace. the Truman Whitehouse is a nice little treasure to go back a bit in time & learn a little history.
The visit to the Truman Little White House was a highlight of Key West. The restored house with furnishings, the information shared with passion, and the history woven into the visit were truly delightful. A real highlight.
This museum was our whole reason for coming to Key West. Harry Truman is my husband’s favorite president. Maybe the anticipation and years of wanting to see this led to a bit of disappointment. Our tour guide Greg was absolutely wonderful! His knowledge and story telling: superb! It is a half an hour only. We felt like we could have heard and seen more. We asked in the gift shop later about the $600 ride in the car. It was explained that up to six people can do that and you see many more places, experience a ride in the car, and so much more. If you had a group, that sounds like the way to go! We definitely think it’s worthwhile to experience. And maybe the cost is to cover expenses. We just thought the value wasn’t what other museums have been. We thought Greg, our tour guide was exceptional!
Very informative tour of the house and the history of the property
We were looking for something to do out of the brutal summer heat so we decided to give this place a visit. The pricing is too high for the tour and what the house has to offer. The tour should not be more than $20 per person and even that seems a bit steep. I expected a nicer interior for a presidential retreat house. The house is very basic and there was nothing impressive or memorable about it. There are only four rooms to tour and you do not get to see the kitchen. If I had to do it again, I would not return as it was not worth $60 for two people.
I am a big fan of Harry Truman and that era, and I think the Little White House does an excellent job of preserving the essence of a president who took his duties seriously but, at the same time, was humble and didn't take himself too seriously. Our tour guide was Joey, and he did an excellent job of telling the stories and setting the stage. If you go, wear a Hawaiian shirt. It's part of the experience, but I won't wreck the story.
From 1946 through 1952, President Harry Truman used this house as his winter vacation home, and because he spent 175 days of his presidency here, it became known as the Little White House. Originally built by the U.S. Navy in 1890, the Little White House served as naval command headquarters during the Spanish-American War, and also played roles in both World Wars and the Cold War. Since Truman's days, many other presidents have also vacationed here, including Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton. Today, the Little White House has been restored and turned into a museum. Also, don’t forget to check the famous limousine while you are there. The only way to see inside the Truman Little White House in Key West is via a guided tour. But there is a small section near the gift shop that is free for visitors.
Very nice opportunity to know more about US history. Bob was our guide and he did a fantastic job explaining the importance of the L.ittle White House. I truly recommend it!!
Very informative tour with lots of background information. Also, don't miss the presidential limo out back.
I’ve always been interested in Harry Truman, having taught a unit to my 6th graders about World War II, so I couldn’t pass up the chance to see the little White House! Our guide, Bob, knew his topic very well, and I learned several new things: how Truman loved poker and bourbon, and how many other presidents a notable people have been to this house. I also found it fascinating that it was left abandoned for 12 years, and how the historical society brought it back and restored it!
Our guide Rick was very knowledgeable. We really enjoyed the history and learning much about Harry's personality.
Bob was a fantastic tour guide. He is a true historian. He gave us great details about Truman and history of the Little White House. We really stepped back into the time of Truman. I hope you get Bob as your guide.
Beautiful grounds, our guide gave us interesting info about the house and really enjoyed the tour! Definitely recommend if you have time.
this experience was so bad. I’m even writing another review out of anger me and my grandma spent $50 on the tour and did not even learn aboutTruman‘s wife. I couldn’t even tell you her name our tour guide was absolutely terrible. I’d love to know who interviewed him because he sucked bigand all he talked about was drinking and how he wanted to take all of us out to the bars and the house is falling apart. It might be owned by the state, but they clearly haven’t checked up on it because it’s not getting care of. We could’ve used our $50 to have a meal out on the water and order an expensive meal with expensive piña colada drinks I would not recommend I have never been on a worse tour than this please do not visit they were so glad that we walked back by because we were staying on the street because clearly everybody in the neighborhood knows that it sucks. Just look them up on Google. You’ll learn more than you will from our tour guide. Wish I knew his name he didn’t even tell us then he scooted us out of the building. if we could get our money back, we would really appreciate it. We are only staying two minutes away not even that far. We will walk to get our money back. Please do not visit. There’s cracks in the walls. Terrible, terrible terrible terrible terrible we aren’t even going to go on any more of the exhibits around here cause we’re scared. We’ll get ripped off like we did with this one if there’s another hurricane, let’s hope it doesn’t come through by the little White House cause I’m gonna tell you, it’s not gonna make it. Our money must be paying for the air-conditioning. Thank you. I would add photos below, but the house is so crappy they don’t even let you have your phone. They tell you to turn on airplane mode. No wonder it’s falling apart. You don’t even get any information about the house cause they don’t want you to take any photos.
Very interesting and engaging. The guide was very knowledgeable and entertaining. Come and enjoy!!!!
Highly recommend this tour. Fascinating view of history and insight into one of our most interesting Presidents.
Highly recommend this tour ! Interesting and informative! Tour guide was wonderful ! I think his name was Joe.
You must go here and see this attraction. I thought I knew a lot about President Truman but one of the most knowledgable guides we have ever had (Chet)gave us an unbelievable tour with so much information I did not know.
This is a gem of US history. A seldom seen peek into 1948-50 presidential living and customs of that time
It was just a block from where we stayed. Enjoyed it and learned several things I didn't know about him. We had been to his home in Missouri so this just added to it. Just a 30 minute tour but very nice. Glad we went.
It was a fantastic tour with many amazing facts about Harry Truman and his use of this facility.
Great tour of Truman’s Key West getaway! Chet was a fantastic guide with so much interesting information. Highly recommend!
You will stand for at least 20 minutes in the dining room while listening to the presentation. The entire tour and presentation is very informative and professional and takes maybe 70 minutes, all while standing. There are a few chairs offered in the last room. The stairs are narrow and some declined climbing up to the second floor. I enjoyed learning about The President who lived in the house. I would do it again.
Wonderful tour of Truman White House with very knowledgeable tour guide Bob. Got there early, caught first tour of the day. Area is very nice to walk about early before all the people stir.
The tour of Truman's Little White House proved to be one of the highlights of our visit to Key West. Our guide, Joey weaved together a story that blended history and humor. His knowledge and admiration for President Truman shone through as he recounted the life of a man thrust into power during one of the most tumultuous times in modern world history and left a legacy that while considered deeply unpopular at the time, helped make our country and the world a more inclusive place.
The history that happened in the house makes this a must visit spot for fans of history. The house has been meticulously restored to as it was when Truman made it his work-from-anywhere White House. Chet was my tour guide and he was excellent. He had great stories to tell about the rooms and the history that happened within them. Most importantly, he was passionate about telling the story.
Very interesting to learn of the personal side of President Truman. Hearing anecdotes about our president and various dignitaries was fascinating.
Very informative and fun! We had no idea President Truman was such a character! Our guide Joey L was excellent!
Very informative. Learned a lot I didn’t know about Truman. The guide “Carl” I think was his name was super knowledgeable and witty. Enjoyed his guidance.
Bob was our guide. He’s the longest serving guide and was Very knowledgeable. Due to the size of our group, he explained the notables in the upstairs bedrooms but had the good sense not to cram us all up there at the same time. Those unable to traverse the steep and narrow stairs were gifted a seat and photo album to peruse the upstairs space. 5 star experience!
Fabulous tour with Bob. So knowledgeable. It was like a step back in time. So interesting to hear the stories and see where President Truman spent so much time. Would highly recommend!
Don’t miss the Truman White House and Bob , our guide. The things Truman did to help every person! Such compassion and unity. Things lacking today.
There’s something about this place that’s so interesting I had to come back a second time. Only 35 minutes long but seeing how the Truman’s lived and worked, just being so close to history, was fascinating.
The tour was very informative. Our tour guide, Greg M, did a great job.
Learn alot about President Truman that i did not know! Tour guide was great. Home was a true testament to how he and Bess lived there.
History brought alive. Your guide Bob did an outstanding job.
It’s a low key visit, but it’s fun to see some of the rooms. Hemingway house more interesting. It’s overpriced.
As part of our excursion, we toured the Truman White house. Our tour guide, Bill, was most excellent with his knowledge about the President and the history of the house. We enjoyed our visit.
Well done tour. Our tour guide Chet was fabulous.
"Whiskey Rick" was our AMAZING tour guide of the Truman Little White House! Gregarious, funny, and great knowledge of history! Highly recommend getting on his tour! The gentleman by Truman's car was also very informative (Sorry did not get his name!) He actually takes people on tours in the Truman Presidential limo! Lovely and interesting tour of a beautiful part of Key West and history! ($52 for 2 for admission.)
