This rating reflects the experience itself, not the staff, who were absolutely fantastic. Everyone was incredibly friendly and went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable and safe. The equipment was also in great condition. The mangrove paddle was a unique experience, and it was fun exploring the tunnels. However, because of the large amount of sargassum, the water had a strong odor and was brown instead of the clear turquoise water we were hoping to see. There is a small island you can paddle to where the water is much clearer. We enjoyed seeing baby crabs, hermit crabs, and lots of fish, but it’s not really a beach where you can get out and swim. The facility has great air conditioning inside, but I do wish they offered air-conditioned changing rooms and an actual shower instead of just a water hose to rinse off. After spending time in the Florida heat, those additions would make a big difference. Overall, the staff and equipment were outstanding, but the natural conditions kept this from being the experience we had hoped for.

There were 3 of us. One rented a SUP and other two of us single kayaks for the day. Equipment was in great shape and staff very helpful. We brought a cooler with drinks and snacks that nicely fit strapped in the kayak. Paddled the mangroves to the lagoon and then went to the island. Saw nurse shark, dolphins, upside down jellyfish, small baby fish and a horseshoe crab at the island.
The staff was very warm and welcoming, they gave us advice, informed us, as well as answered any questions we had. The overall experience going out on the water was lovely.
Amazing experience!! We rented 2 single kayaks. Paddling through the mangroves was such a fun, very unique adventure. Sometimes we had to literally pull ourselves forward along the beautiful trees as the passage was so narrow. However, we felt safe all the time. Saw lots of fish, little crabs on the branches, jellyfish … We did not paddle to the tiny island where you can onboard for a while. Next time :) Entire staff is super nice! Totally recommend to book this experience *****
Fun place to kayak through the mangroves! Cool cave to go up, saw manatees, jellyfish and other fish.
This is a really fun experience for all ages. You can choose the guided tour (which I am sure would be interesting) but it is super easy to do on your own. The mangrove tunnels get really tight and you have to use the roots to propel yourself forward for the last bit before reaching the lagoon filled with upside down jellyfish. The equipment is in good condition and the staff is very friendly. The rental covers up to 7 hours. It took us a bit over three hours to do the longer paddle to the lagoon. The guided tour did not go through the narrower trails to the lagoon which is another reason to DIY.
Very cool!! We saw so many things! We got out and swan in some sandy spots, this was definitely worth it! They warned us how to be most prepared and successful and even sell anything you might need if you forgot
spent the week on islamorada...and spent a beautiful full day first exploring the bay by kayak in the morning, and the mangroves in the afternoon. Spent a second day in the morning exploring the bay again by kayak....staff were all helpful and very informative. the area is beautiful and we really enjoyed ourselves
This is the second time I've visited this place and I absolute LOVE it!! I rent a paddle board and enjoy the day on the water. I always end up meeting other paddlers along the way. Usually toward the mangroves. It's so relaxing, calming, and refreshing. I can't recommend it enough!! The people are great, the equipment is well kept, and they have everything you need at the store if you happen to forget something. And Brittany, one of the tour guides there is super awesome!!
Great staff, very friendly. Loved the self-guided trip, we took our time. The map is straightforward and like our guide said, you can't really get lost. The mangrove trails were really unique and beautiful, as was the salt water lagoon. We really loved kayaking through the blue waters of the intercoastal, it was a big push against the wind but we made it! Definitely bring some good polarized glasses to see all the wildlife. Looking forward to coming back for more kayaking.
We had a blast using these kayaks to paddle around the canals and mangroves! Hopefully another time (when it’s less windy) we can try out the SUPs and go out to the island. This was also our first encounter with manatees and it did not disappoint!!!
Met up with the staff at Paddle the Florida Keys and rented a couple of SIC paddleboards. The awesome staff recommended a few places to check out and suffice to say the day was amazing. Thank you PTFK for your professionalism and local knowledge. Deven and his team are the BEST!
Awesome experience. The staff was nice. The store was easy to find. We had a great day. I’d do it again. Recommended.
$43 for all you can paddle (up to 7 hrs). It doesn't get any better than that!! You can go alone or schedule a guide. It's up to you. Highly recommended.
Did the all day rental, but only spent about 2.5 hours in the water. We saw lots of fish, a juvenile manatee, a couple of rays, jelly fish, and several species of birds. Great family activity. Both of my kids, 12 (M), and 15 (F), had a good time.
Holy moly this was incredible I went with 9 people some experienced some not and we all had a blast. You literally have to Tarzan at certain points because the mangroves are so thick. We did self guided tour and it was easy to navigate.
From walking in the front door to returning the equipment the staff was friendly and polite. Equipment was in good condition and the areas where we kayaked were beautiful! Enough other people to make it safe but not too many. I liked the mangroves and my family preferred the open water to the island. Would do again!
Such a fun day meandering through the mangroves! Lots of birds, secret lagoon offered a few sightings. Enjoyed every minute!
A fun day making our way through the mangroves to the secret lagoon. Easy paddle, loved seeing the birds as we headed into the mangrove.
Pick up was very easy through booking with TripAdvisor, was told since we had our reservations through this site we could have our choice of two singles or one double. Highly recommend a double if your with your spouse or partner for those channels to explore were extremely narrow with low low branches. The paddles they provide are much too long...this place needs to switch them to the paddles that can be taken apart into a two section piece. We had to use the Mangrove branches to monkey bar our way through the narrow maze. It was definitely an adventure but not for the unfit. Would not recommend to folks who have back issues, neck, shoulder, or over weight. We had to twist our bodies in various ways as the branches quickly become obstacles. Did not see a Manatee until we came back and there was one nursing on a fresh water running hose that one of the docked boat captains had on for the local Manatees
A fun experience! We went on our own and explored at our own pace. Definitely worth navigating to the large lagoon deep in the mangrove!
Me and friends had a great time! It’s my 3rd time coming and I’ll definitely will be back ,the staff is always polite and quick with getting up ready and out in the water for some fun! Definitely has become one of my go to activities to do with the friends! Amazing time!
Host gave good directions, supplied water, and everything we needed for a fun-filled day. It was fun to do the mangrove tunnels and head to the island with lunch in between.
We loved being able to rent the kayaks for the day and explore on our own. I’m sure the tours were excellent but we really enjoyed being able to go at our own pace. The staff was friendly and helpful before heading out. The mangrove tunnels were a unique experience that we won’t forget! We saw some cool fish and jellies along the way. We also went out to the island, which was lovely. 100% would recommend.
The guys at the location were so nice and very helpful easy to make reservations and kayaks were easy to launch as well .
Was very enjoyable…didn’t see any manatees but it was still worth it. Make sure to get a paddle that comes apart…you will need only have of a kayak paddle in the mangrove tunnels. We didn’t get one and it made navigating difficult.
Everyone was really nice on staff and kayaking the mangroves was an awesome experience. Recommended! Thanks
The people were very nice. The only bad thing that we experienced was. We got long paddles instead of paddles that could come apart so it would make it easier to maneuver in the mangrove area.
We did the self-guided tour. I would highly recommend this with your significant other! Take the day and do both the groves and island.
The experience itself was great -- I was somewhat taken aback by one guide at the outset who chastised us as being not appropriately dressed. She said we should be in "bikini bottoms", not long pants -- but my repeated skin cancers do not allow that much sun (and she was the one being inappropriate, in my opinion). I was relieved we were permitted to go on our own. Once we were in the water, it was a great time! Very interesting when the tide was high and we couldn't even use our paddles, we had to pull ourselves along by the mangrove branches overhead -- fun and adventurous. Saw several manatees, as well as interesting birds. One friend accidentally fell out of his kayak, and that was a true high point! (Despite his long pants, he did not drown.)
I was a bit apprehensive at first, as I am not a strong paddler, but this was fantastic! My husband is very outdoorsy, and he loved the mangroves. Be sure to go early so you have the tide to your advantage. The lady in the paddle store was lovely and very helpful.
loved the low reaching branches on the way to the lagoon. super beautiful and fun to glide through. saw a manatee too! they’re huge & adorable
Guides were very helpful with navigating and giving good suggestions and tips. We are fairly novice kayakers but we’re able to go at our own pace easily
We were referred to this park because of the ease of kayaking among the mangroves. Chris and Trevor were great in assisting us get prepared and on our way and also when we returned. It was a beautiful day and very relaxing
Enjoyed the day exploring. They did a good job providing guidance on where to explore on own. Enjoyed the self guided touring. Great little restaurant right there to grab food and venture back out after.
The entire experience was fantastic. The staff was incredibly helpful and knowledgeable. Kayaking through the mangroves is something that my family and I will never forget. Lots to see both fish wise and birds. Absolutely recommend it ta anyone coming down to the keys!!
We had an incredible time exploring the Mangroves and the staff was super friendly and helpful! Whole heartedly recommend!
A great experience. The store staff was friendly and helpful. Kayaking the mangroves is a must do when in the keys. We saw all sorts of life in this "nursery" of the ocean.
Fun experience. Highly recommend this while visiting the Keys. Very easy to make reservations although really didn’t need one.
They were positive and encouraging. Their instructions to the lagoon were spot on. Offering a dry bag for each rental would have been helpful.
This was exactly what we wanted/hoped for. We delighted at seeing a manatee and no mosquitoes, We did go to the island to swim a bit.
Very fun! We chose to go deep in the mangroves where paddle use was not an option! Used our hands to pull and push our way thru the mangroves.
Family of four-2kayaks. We did the self guided. The mangroves were easy to find. We did have to cross a busy and wide channel but no issues. We did not see any manatees but we still had a great time. The mangroves get tight and instead of oars, we pulled ourselves along using branches. Lots of fun! The employees were great, nice and easy going!
Very fun! Great place to go if it's too windy. The mangroves stay calm. Lots of wildlife to see. Guided tour was fun as well. Worth it.
Trip was the perfect distance. Didn’t see a ton of wildlife but Loved going thru the canopies! Had a lot of fun. Beautiful day.
Enjoyed this activity while taking in the beautiful island that surrounded us. The area we rode in was open with broad range and had 2 exploring areas along the trail. Trail was long and took us about 3 hours to explore the mangroves on our own. We loved that we were not rushed and were able to rent the kayaks for the day without being expected to return at a set time. Just FYI the path can be a bit tedious as there are lots of vegetation and mangroves along the creeks and you need to have patience to get through the trail...the trail is lengthy and the tides were a bit strong in certain areas, dress lightly, and pack your own water to bring with. This was an interesting experience overall and I highly recommend this activity if coming down to the keys!
We rented 2 kayaks and 2 paddleboards. This was a fun day because the mangrove tunnel was low and we had to use our hands to propel us through the tunnel instead of our paddles. It was something different. The only disappointing thing was the lack of wildlife. We would do this again!
We paid extra from this offer 20 buck each and got an guided tour with Keith and he was great and patient with us .. we got to see a manatee and her calf … got really close to them
Logistics were simple, and having freedom without a schedule was great. Mangroves were amazing and quite an adventure. Recommend to anyone wanting a unique activity
Took a tandem kayak through the Mangroves right from the store put in. It was really easy to follow the trail. We saw stingrays, upside down jellyfish and tons of fish. It was an easy paddle and the mangroves were awesome. Would definitely go again.
