Besides of getting bitten up the experience was wonderful.

Itinerary
Coming up is a short detour to the Anhinga Trails, the park’s most popular hikes. Anhinga is a mile-long boardwalk that loops through a robust sawgrass marsh. If you’re hoping to see some wetlands wildlife, this is the trail for you. The tour is over 48 miles long, with more than 39 audio stories, and takes about 2-3 hours to complete. New, Lifetime access, no expiry. Use it anytime, on any trip, as many times as you want.
Coming up soon is Christian Point Trail. If you’re looking to get away from the crowds a little, this might be the trail for you, as it’s not one of the more popular ones in the park. It’s slightly more challenging than some other trails in the park, but still ranks only at a moderate difficulty. The whole thing is four miles round trip, and leads to another wide-open view of the shoreline accessible from Snake Bight Trail.
Just ahead is a quick detour to the Mahogany Hammock Trail. This boardwalk trail winds a half-mile through a dense jungle of hardwood trees, and takes about 10 minutes to complete. But there’s more than just lush greenery on display here. The trail is also home to the largest living mahogany tree in the entire United States!
Coming up soon is the Everglades Outpost, a wildlife rescue where you can meet over 200 exotic animals. In 1991, Bob and Barbara Freer took it upon themselves to rescue and rehabilitate animals which would otherwise be put down. They started with small birds and raccoons, but soon expanded to camels, lemurs, big cats, and more! Most of these animals were kept as illegal exotic pets before entering the Freers’ care, and the goal is always to release them back into their original habitats.
Throughout the early 1900s, large swaths of the Everglades were drained, filled in, and turned into agricultural or residential land. Hunting of the local wildlife was rampant and unchecked. It seemed only a matter of time before the entire wetland would be wiped off the face of the earth.
Coming up is West Lake Trail. This half-mile boardwalk leads out to West Lake and offers clear views across the water. It takes about 10 minutes to walk, and is a great stop for anyone hoping to see some of the park’s marine wildlife. The water isn’t particularly clear, but see if you can spot the telltale ripples of an alligator or crocodile swimming across the lake! If you were a deer, would you be able to see it approaching in time to escape?
Earnest F. Coe may be called the Father of the Everglades, but he didn’t create this park all by himself. He had help, especially from Marjory Stoneman Douglas. Douglas worked as a columnist for the Miami Herald and was known for her fiery advocacy for women’s rights, racial justice, and conservation. She joined Coe’s fight in the 1920s and put her facility with language to work in defense of the Everglades. She wrote columns to capture the public imagination and wrote letters to Congress making her case.
Coming up soon is Pa-Hay-Okee Lookout Tower. Accessible via a short boardwalk, this observation platform affords visitors panoramic views of the “river of grass” that makes up much of the Everglades. It’s a quick, 5-minute detour, and well worth a stop.
Coming up is a short detour to the Gumbo Limbo Trail. Gumbo Limbo is only a half-mile long. It’s paved, shaded, and winds through a thick grove of hardwood trees and lush ferns. It is easy and can be completed in about 15 minutes.
Up ahead is Nine Mile Pond Trail. One crucial thing sets this trail apart from others: It’s not on land! This is a canoe trail. Visitors with boats can paddle the 5-mile loop through shallow, grassy marsh, not just taking in the natural scenery from a distance, but actually passing through it! The water levels are generally high enough in the fall and winter, though conditions can vary in the case of a drought.
Welcome to your tour of the Everglades! This unique, delicate ecosystem is unlike anywhere else on earth. Get ready to explore this remarkable place, learn about its history, and find out what the future may hold for the Everglades. Note: This 48+ mile-long tour covers the essentials of the Everglades in 3-4 hours. New, Lifetime access, no expiry. Use it anytime, on any trip, as many times as you want.
Up next is Snake Bight Trail. Don’t let the name scare you. That’s B-I-G-H-T, not B-I-T-E. A bight is a kind of bay, and that’s exactly what you’ll find here. This 3.6-mile out-and-back trail ventures through lush, shaded jungle before opening out onto a scenic bay. It takes about an hour to walk on average, but it’s also open to bikes with the exception of the brief boardwalk portion at the end.
Just ahead is Pineland Trail, where you can get up close with the most endangered ecosystem in the Everglades. This half-mile, paved loop runs through a forest of lush green pines, palmettos, and wildflowers. It feels like strolling through a primordial rainforest!
Looking for a glimpse of civilization? You’ll find it just ahead, at the Flamingo Visitor Center. This comprehensive visitor center has all the usual trappings you’d expect, like snacks, restrooms, and an information booth, but it also offers quite a bit more. Want to rent a canoe or kayak? They’ve got them! How about a bicycle? That too!
Just ahead is the Eco Pond Trail. If you’ve been dying to see more Everglades wildlife, this is the perfect stop for you. This half-mile trail loops around a small pond that’s almost always packed with wading birds, ducks, songbirds, and more. Plus, keep an eye on the waters for softshell turtles and alligators!

Okay. A few things that are a NEED TO KNOW before you go! I would like to say that this was GREAT! The self guided tour is really really easy to follow. And it’s super informative. So we never got lost or anything. It’s literally step by step. Here are the tips: 1) Download the Action Tour Guide on WiFi at your hotel etc. Do this before you go! 2) You will receive an OTP Code emailed to you. For some reason I received two. The 1st one was for Acadia Maine. The 2nd was the correct one. Obviously the Maine one was not correct as I wanted the Florida Everglades - Luckily you can email Action Tour Guide and they respond fast. 3) After App Installed - you will put in that OTP code 4) DO NOT start at the suggested starting point - this is a Bus Depot. Just put in your GPS Ernest F Coe Visiting Center. This is your starting point. **you do need to pay to get into the park” in addition to what this costs. 5) BUG SPRAY A MUST - Kept me big free for the most part 6) Mosquitos at Flamingo ARE THE WORST- THEY WILL ATTACK no joke! 7) One way in, One way out so prepare to go to the end and turn around. 8) MOST IMPORTANT TO KNOW: GPS DEAD halfway through this tour! We were both in SOS for a good 45 minutes in and out of this park. This is a great time !’ Definitely must do!
Was worth every penny! Bring mosquito repellent.
Very interesting trip. Saw a huge alligator in the park
Once we got through the park gates there was an abundance of birds and critters in the road, lubbers, same family as cricket family. Saw soft shell turtles, one digging a nest for eggs, large bird of prey which couldn’t identify, had small snake in its beak, wandered through one of the stops, oki poki, we then seen a Blue Herron, which we thought we startled and it flew away quite dramatically, to which we looked down where the Herron was, and a alligator was lying in the water, which we think the herron had a lucky escape!, We stayed in flamingo lodge where they had built rooms from shipping containers, beds were squeaky and uncomfortable but everything else was fine. Just watch for mosquitoes as they’re in abundance even with repellent, good drive in and out, great roads and the app was fantastic as told all you needed to know about the Everglades. 5 ⭐️
Good info. Could be even more provided.
It was helpful to have the guide explain the aspects of the trip.
The tour was informative and gave you plenty of warning before stops. The tour had correct information on the type of trail each trail was. Take the detours they are worth the extra time. Some took me longer then the tour said they would. I suggest downloading the tour and looking it over a head of time to figure out what stops you absolutely want to do. Also the Nike Missile site turn is on the road to the Royal Palm visitor center. I took the tour the National Park offers for free. It is 1.5 - 2 hours very informative the guide was awesome. Well worth the the extra time
It didn't work. Kept trying to take us back to the starting point. It was a waste of time and money. There was no one to talk to us.
Well done and very informative.
The audio tour app was about as good as it could be, but we were short on time and could only do one of the short hikes. This is where you can experience the Everglades, rather than just observing from your vehicle.
This audio guide worked great for us. The only issue is finding the starting point, but you can just put in Robert Is Here Fruit Stand and start the tour, and it will sync with your location. It uses GPS and always knows where you are so no need to stop and start. It helped us choose which hikes to do (we skipped the two longest ones). It also advised us that one was closed. I recommend this guide!
The meeting point is really the starting point for your journey, not an actual destination. Narrator has a pleasant voice. Interesting facts, with time between narration to discuss what you learned and to enjoy the scenery.
Could not connect with the tour...so we did not listen to the thing. The selfguided was wonderful. Maybe make it easier to find the app for people who are NOT tec savvy...........................
Easy to follow direction. However, several historical errors. Also, would like to be able to backtrack and it follow along.
The facts are explained well in an engaging manner which my son also enjoyed !! An overall good experience
This was a great way to explore the Everglades at our own pace. At points along the way, the audio gives information about the area. You do not need to watch the map, the audio automatically begins at each spot. If it is a hiking trail, information about the length and difficulty of the trail is given. The blurbs are relatively short yet informative. You can repeat items or pause them if needed. We found the audio to be fun and informative.
This was a lovely trip through the Everglades on a rainy day. We enjoyed the knowledgeable information given on the app. It really added to our pleasure of the surroundings. Here are a few things that could use improvement: 1. It was challenging to set up on my phone. 2. The information on how to begin the trip by car needed to be more specific. 3. There was a fee for entering the park which wasn't mentioned. 4. Restroom information needed to be included.
We enjoyed the self-guided tour - we found it very informative and a great companion to have along for the ride during our visit to Everglades National Park. We highly recommend!
It was very nice for a “ride in your own car and go at your own pace” audio tour. It was informative and worked as expected. The price wasn’t bad.
This self guided tour provided terrific directions, including side stops, with information on length and difficulty of trails, what you might see and time expected to complete. The historic perspective was interesting and welcome. Would recommend this audio guide
We thought we were getting in at Everglades City not Florida City. It wasn’t until I paid and downloaded the app did we realize it was at Florida City. Almost 3 hour drive one way for us.
We really enjoyed this experience. It was interesting listening to this. We also went on a few of the side trips that were recommended.
The starting point - a bus pickup and drop off parking lot made the initial beginning point very confusing and wasted almost an hour of our time until we finally figured it out. Once we did the information was informative and even quite helpful. Once on our way we enjoyed our day.
The road was well maintained. The trails were nicely maintained. The bathrooms were closed at the one we stopped at, we used the outhouses- they were disgusting. The restaurant at Flamingo was nice and very clean, food was amazing. February 2025.
Difficulty getting to starting point due to construction road closures and differing gps systems. Format was great. Had wonderful ranger talk/lecture. Need to allocate more time to reach some points in Everglades. Pre-access to schedules for all ranger lectures would help in maximizing available time. Nice park entrance visitor center
Good way to get info on the Everglades with out an organized tour. I would recommend and also a reasonable cost. Enjoy!!!
We have now done 3 tours with this company and they have all been brilliant. It is an amazing idea, set up the app on your phone and play it through the car speakers. The phone knows where you are and an very easy to understand narrator tells you about the history, what to see etc. Go off the trail (i.e. stop for coffee) and the narrator goes silent until you return to the trail The directions are very clear This is a great app and we will continue to use it wherever we can
The audio tour was awesome. It allowed us to tour the park at our own pace and pick up where we left off. The app was very easy to use. Great value!
Learned a lot from this self guided tour. I appreciated the variety from the history of the park to learning about the wildlife. I especially found helpful the overview of each walking loop as we approached it - the duration and distance of each and what you’d experience. I have 2 suggestions: wish it was CarPlay compatible and since the park is a loop that something was saved for the return back through park. Will definitely use the App again on other tours.
I would highly recommend this tour, perfect for stress free guidance as you drive with great basic knowledge of the area. Loved that the tour pointed out the distance, what you would experience and the type of trail. Definitely stop at the visitor centre before entering the Park and get yourself a map. The staff were very knowledgeable and helpful. I made sure my husband drove the speed limit and it was perfect.
This tour is launched from another app you have to download on your mobile device. I ended up having to call the helpline to figure it out and start it. It also confused me on where I had to be to start the tour. I’ve used other audio tours on apps before and found them much better. It wasn’t bad, just not as good as I had hoped.
The service worked well enough for us to enjoy the park. Helped make the drive efficent. Park background info was useful. We would use it again. Very good price for the service quality.
The narration was interesting and educational. It worked flawlessly at each point and the entire family enjoyed learning about the history of the Everglades.
Worked perfectly. Better than being trapped in tour van. We skipped or stayed longer whenever we felt like it.
It's ok, I was expecting more detail/history. While this points out helpful spots, the commentary was lacking. I'll likely just get a guide from nps next time.
After watching several videos, two of them twice, I was still unable to access the tour. I downloaded an app. The app and video indicated that the tour was supposed to start as soon as I arrived at the starting address. I sat there in a parking lot waiting for a prompt or even a “start” button which did not arrive. I texted and then later called for assistance. I received a call back about 45 minutes after I had given up trying. I had already left the start point and was headed to my back up plan.
We chose the tour spur-of-the-moment, and we’re glad we did! It was easy to access and easy to follow. Very informative as well!
It was a good way to visit the Everglades at our on pace. Everything is well explained. We learned a lot. And even saw what we think was an alligator close to the road. Thank you
Very convenient. The audio was automatically triggered via GPS location and timing was spot on and provided directions. Provided interesting and timely information on the area we were driving through. It was almost like having a private tour guide. Well worth the money.
We have been to the Everglades several times and this audio, self-guided tour was by far the best way to see the natural beauty while increasing your knowledge of the history.
The wife and I love Action Tour-Guide, really can't beat the convenience of a self-guided tour at your own pace and the information they provide, however, once you enter the Everglades National Park it's approximately 38 miles to the Flamingo Visitor Center. I'd say we spent around 5 hours at the park and still needed a lot more time. There is certainly enough to see, like birds, alligators, crocodiles, a possible panther maybe even a skunk ape but probably won't see much besides the Everglades unless you take the time to pull off and enjoy the multiple hiking areas (we did not have time before dark and it rained).
The tour was very good. We appreciated all the information that came with each stop and interesting lore for the driving parts. We took advantage of all the hikes we could along the way. If you plan to get out of your car make sure to have adequate clothing coverage and bug spray for mosquitos. The start point could be a more obvious location such as actually on the Palm Dr. somewhere and not a side street parking lot.
Rained out so not able to leave a great review. Driver can’t view photos and there are huge gaps. One section referenced Juan Ponce de Leon coming to Florida in 1921 which is incorrect.
This was super cool for my Everglades trip. I enjoyed the history and the fact I could do this at my own pace. Loved that it gives you the option to hop off trail complete a small hike then just pick up where you left off. I will definitely do this for my next adventure if there is a product available.
We had a hard time getting the app to work properly at first, specifically the volume, but other than that we loved the experience! We valued the ability to go at our own pace, stopping at trails that interested us and skipping the ones we knew we wouldn't have time for. My husband and I definitely recommend this self-guided tour.
I really enjoyed this audio tour, it was easy to follow with helpful information. The best part was being able to go at my own pace.
We weren’t bored because of it the tour was great! Would recommend to anyone who’s interested in knowing more about the history
The audio tour of the Everglades was informative and fun. We learned about the history and about the current ecosystem. There were a couple of mistakes. I wanted to hear more about Marjory Stoneman Douglas. We only had time to get to Story 25. Had to turn back.
This self-guide tour was perfect. We downloaded it in advance which was important as we lost signal once we were deep into the Everglades. The narration was perfect - lots of information to listen to about the history of the area and what to look out for. Thanks to the tour we saw many egrets, alligators, a crocodile, turtles, manatees, ospreys and a spoonbill. A truly memorable day.
