Zip was our captain and Kristen the 1st mate. A great day at the Key. Highly recommend.

$6.00 parking charge for an empty public lot. We were not told about it until we boarded, Marlon said if we did nothing about it, there would be a $30.00 penalty. We had to run back to the vehicle get the plate number then spend 20 minutes on a cell phone app, wasting the first third of the trip? Egmont Key is being dredged, black pipe all over the beach. We landed on the west side and much of the fort and east side of the island were too far for us to walk.
Can be a lot of walking, definitely take a map of the entire island, along with bug spray. And ask which beaches are best for shelling, and which ones are best for swimming. Because shells can make it difficult to enjoy walking and floating at shoreline on certain beaches. And Captain and crew went above and beyond to ensure we got to see dolphins and had a wonderful day!
Our guides were phenomenal, however they knew there was sand dredging on and near Egmont when we booked the excursion so our experience was not that great, low visibility, pipeline running across the beach, etc.. I wish they would have been a little more forth coming with that information during the booking process as we maybe would have spent our money on a different excursion.
Colin and captain Zip were great guides they were friendly and informative. Made sure we saw dolphins on the ride back to marina.
Ok, so this review is strictly about the island and damn was it amazing!!!! Being able to explore on your own, going into Fort Dade and exploring ( sadily nasty people left bunch of trash in almost every hole atop the fort), finding the gopher turtles, following the red brick road ;) of the ghost town and just i mean i could go on. It was awesome and the weather was perfect. Oh and there is a dredging project going on on the north end of the island which kinda sucks but not entirely horrible. Everyone has their own opinion, bit i do say go and check this island out!
The Captain and Co-Captain were very professional and very knowledgeable about the Gulf and the Island. Hands down this was the best decision my wife and I made visiting Tampa Bay FL. Two (2) thumbs up..!!!
Bring lots of liquids and bug spray if you leave the beach. The beach is beautiful, but there is some construction going on…
Good times! Beautiful day on the water and the crew was outstanding. Came face to face with a manatee while snorkeling. Would be better with your own boat to move around but otherwise, a fun trip.
Zip and Collin were great guides! We saw a “herd” of cowhead rays and some spotted rays on the way out to the island, and dolphins on the way back. Once you’re on the island you have several hours to explore, shell, or sun. Make sure to bring sunscreen and also bug repellent if you want to go to the lighthouse. If you don’t bring your own snacks and water they sell those onboard.
It was a wonderful day. The staff were great and knowledgable about the waterways, islands and history of Egmont Key. We saw a shark, two spotted eagle rays and about 30 dolphins in one large pod. We also saw hundreds of seagull, pelicans and frigate birds flying over the water and feasting on bait. The most we have ever seen in 40 years in Florida. We would highly recommend this for tourists and local Floridians. It was a great day at the beach and we found plenty of shells.
The co-captains were great. Zip and Colin. They gave us good advice, provided a pleasant trip to and from the key, and the key itself was well-worth visiting. I would recommend this to anyone visiting the area. Even better than the kayak trip we took to Shell Key, though that was great as well.
Zip and Collin were amazing Captains! We saw dolphins and manatees! The snorkeling was a lot of fun and the beach time was great! Would definitely recommend to all ages . They even let my granddaughter drive!
Zip and Colan made it a great trip. Stopping to view dolphins on the way back. Definitely a great afternoon on Egmont Island swimming I would advise that the rocks in the water are sharp. Great value
We had such a fun day exploring Egmont Key and visiting the historic lighthouse. It was our wedding anniversary and we had been married at a lighthouse in Wildwood, NJ. It was fun taking the trip to get another lighthouse pic to celebrate. Our capt. Robin and first mate (I should have written the review sooner but I think maybe her name was Bre?) were great. We didn’t have the most amazing weather but luckily Mother Nature held off the heavy rain until after we were docked. The crew handled the weather like the pros they are and kept us entertained. We often have guests visit us at our Florida home and I am sure we will book again when we are looking for something different to do with them. We will likely try the fishing next!
What a fun and beautiful day! We had a great experience on the ferry over (our crew Captain Zip and Colin were both great); had fun snorkeling for the first hour and then a gorgeous walk through the island and swimming in the beautiful gulf for the last couple of hours. On the return ferry, we saw dolphin! We highly recommend this excursion.
We went on the Egmont Key Ferry trip as part of out 25th Anniversary vacation. It was wonderful. The guides (Zip and Colin with Hubbards) were awesome! They were very friendly guys and made it a lot of fun. The Key was beautiful and a lot of fun to explore...and the water was amazing. Definitely recommend! ,
We had a great time exploring the island, lighthouse, old fort & walked the trails. Paused under the palms through a pop-up shower. That drew out many gopher tortoises. Back on the beach we watched as a couple manatees swam past. Played in the water for a good while, then relaxed on the beach, shelling for the remainder of the afternoon. Captain Zep & first mate Cody made sure that we had the opportunity for dolphin viewing while enjoying a first class play list.
Enjoyed our trip to Egmont key. Weather was great, boat ride was fun, saw dolphins & manatees, captain & co-captain were informative, helpful & fun!! We hiked the trails & enjoyed hanging out on the beach, almost like having our own private beach!! Saw some dolphins from the beach, collected some good shells. Very fun & relaxing time. We highly recommend!!!! Bring plenty of water, it was hot when we were there. They sell snacks & drinks on the boat that are quite reasonably priced! Bring anything you might like to use on the beach especially an umbrella if you have one, they do have umbrellas on the boat you can rent and again reasonably priced, I believe $5. Thanks again for the fun time!!
Fun beach day and our captain and crew were exceptional. We got to see several dolphins on our way back. And 3 manatee that swam close to our area. Overall the trip was excellent from start to finish. FYI bring some kind of shade. The crew on the 11am: 6-19-26 provided exceptional service.
This was a great, smooth ride to Egmont key! Having 3 hours to exlpore the island and enjoy the beach was more than enough time. The crew, Robin & Tim are amazing. The offered great history/information about the area, took the time to slowdown so we can admire dolphins and manatees, and most importantly, brought us back safely. I highly recommend this ferry to Egmont.
Was a great expierence. Great boat ride there was fun and entertaining. Found some good shells. The turtles are amazing. I hope they restore the island. It’s a beautiful place.
They were very professional, friendly, and knowledgeable of the area. The focus on safety first was held to standard which I appreciated. I definitely recommend and look forward to doing this again soon.
Zip, Kyle and Collin were awesome guides. Highly recommend this trip. Egmont Key is a beautiful island and it is really cool to hike out to the lighthouse and old fort.
Absolutely wonderful experience. The crew was amazing and the island was well worth the cost. Beautiful water everywhere you look. The ride over and back was spectacular. We saw manatees and dolphins on the way as well as on the island. Truly a vacation destination high light.
Colon and the Captain were very helpful and made the trip well worth the investment. Very impressed by their commitment to keeping debris out of the water. Stop and salvaged numerous items from the water!! 👍
It was very nice to disconnect from real world to go into the Ferri navigating through the waters, good music, good crew, and although it was cloudy day the water at the island was very clean and refreshing! Very Good escape after long time
Ferry ride is great! Snorkeling was rough due to high winds. Best to go on a calm day if you can manage it. Water is nice and warm, just lacked visibility due to weather.
Visiting Egmont key exceeded my expectations! I love exploring so being dropped off at this island to explore while it also has clear blue waters felt like taking a little vacation out of Florida. I went 2 times and I would go more often if I lived closer. Definitely a must do experience if you like to explore new historical sites
Captain Zips is the best! After the ride he let my kids pick out a shark tooth from his "shark tooth frisbee" from his cosmic collection. It would be irresponsible as a parent to choose a provider that without a sharktooth frisbee. Captain Zips - if you read this...how ya dern?!
They ferry you out to the island , on the way the captain looks for wildlife . We saw several dolphins and manatees, when you get there they turn you loose on an old deserted WW2 island , that had been almost destroyed during prohibition. Is was amazing . We explored and hunted for seashells all afternoon . It’s been the highlight of our trip so far . I would recommend taking a carry on bag with sunscreen, snorkeling gear and snacks and drinks . I give this trip 5 stars , definitely work the 45 dollars we spent on it !
What an awesome trip to Egmont Key! Captain's Zip and Collin were so friendly and knowledgeable, and took their time to show our group dolphins and a manatee on the way! We enjoyed spending time on this secluded island and exploring Fort Dade! Highly recommend this trip!
Took the Egmont Key excursion with bestie visiting from out-of-town! I have lived in St. Pete for years -- and this was my first visit! GORGEOUS Sunday on Egmont with ideal sunny breezy day! Enjoyed sunning, shelling, hiking and sites galore! Total 5 hours with 3-hours on Key! Great transport on Ferry with Captain Zip and Captain Colin -- two funny and knowledgeable hosts! Even got to see some dolphin and local hotspots off Ft Desoto. Will do this again soon with some local friends!! Excellent value for money and perfect for families with children or friends and couples! Tons of privacy and space on the Key!! Bring a cooler with lunch and plenty of sun-screen!!
Day was wonderful! Enjoyed ride to and from Egmont Key, explored the island and then sat on the beach. Captain and crew were informative, friendly and knowledgeable.
Great outing with a friendly, welcoming and obviously competent crew. Dolphins were a highlight on both legs of trip. Our children really enjoyed themselves and want to go again.
Enjoyable for either relaxing at the beach or exploring the island. Nearly nothing of the ghost town remains, though, so don’t expect to walk among buildings. There are still signs that say what did stand there.
Had a wonderful time!! The ride is great, the captain crew were nice and informative, the boat left on time…. Everything was great. Wonderful experience! Can’t wait to fo it again.
Kip and Collin were very accommodating and made sure everyone was enjoying themselves. We had a beautiful day and got to see a manatee, dolphins and tortoises on the island. Highly recommend!
What an amazing experience and I will probably do this every time I go to St Pete!!!
Overall, it was a really great experience. The captain and the captains assistant were very nice and very informational. The gentleman and the lady at the booth were beyond exceptional. On the ferry ride there we got to see dolphins and I’m pretty sure I saw a sea turtle or two. Egmont key was absolutely beautiful. I would definitely go again.
This is the second time we’ve visited Egmont Key with our kids. We love this trip. It’s a great opportunity to get out on the water for a couple hours, and then once on the island play on the beach, look for shells, and explore the ruins for a few hours. We even got to see a few dolphins on the way back. Great day all around.
Beautiful boat ride to and from the island. Great crew with good information about Egmont and what we would find there. Lots of shells and places to explore. Bring a lunch and enjoy the day!
All I can say is Wow…Captain Zip & 1st Mate Colin were the best! They went out of their way to make sure we saw dolphins (even though we weren’t on the dolphin tour). They were extremely knowledgeable about the history of Egmont Key and the surrounding area. They played great music & asked for requests from all the guests as well. The excellent ride out & back to Egmont Key just added to the perfect day on the island & the crew was the icing on the cake! Would highly recommend!!! 5⭐️ experience
Great trip. Friendly and competent staff. I'll definitely go again.
Wonderful experience, great crew and guides and the Egmont Key State Park was beautiful. We also saw dolphins on the trip back to the dock. Well worth the time and money!
Beautiful day trip to Egmont Key with Hubbard’s was the perfect day to spend outdoors to see wildlife and discover local history, Captain Jordyn and Nick had great boat vibes and info to and from the key.
The whole thing was well organized. The boat operators were super friendly and knowledgeable! We even saw some dolphins! The sweetest thing was my daughter couldn’t find I. Shark tooth in the sand, they found it and gave her one! It was so sweet of them! I will book again with them if I visit again!
The experience was a once in a lifetime! Found a 3.5” megalodon tooth, we saw gopher tortoise, found amazing shells.
Cap’n Robyn and her crew went above and beyond to deliver a good time. Beachcombing. History. Nature. Cap’n’s silky smooth narration was mesmerizing, chock full of fun facts. Sharks, birds, dolphins turtles were the order of the day. Shelling by the bagful was the plan for some. As for me, I snoozed on the beached pontoon, soaking up sun and the lapping waves, and the conversation of …
The boat ride to and from was fun and relaxing. The guides were great. We saw dolphins and rays, plus beautiful scenery. The island itself was really nice and had tons of cool history and beauty. We saw tons of tortises and found lots of shells. We packed sandwiches and drinks which worked out well for us.
