I have even wanting to see bioluminescence for years and this tour did not disappoint!! Our group was 2 adults, a 12 year old and a 10 year old and we all agree that this tour was the highlight of our trip!!! We were there 2 days before the new moon in early October. Seeing the glowing swirls from our paddles and under the boat was mesmerizing. Our guides Renata and Carrie were so awesome! They were fun, helpful and knowledgeable. They took us to a lot of places where the glow was super bright. We also saw a ton of glowing comb jellies and they collected some for us to touch. It was truly a magical experience!!

You should know that if there is any lightning this company will not refund your money they will make you wait hours for lightning to pass. You may be waiting hours.
10/10 highly recommend! Anthony was amazing and very knowledgeable about the wildlife. The clear kayak was the cherry on top, as it let you see the bioluminescence all around you; it was like gliding through the galaxy! He took us around the nearby island that no other tour did, so it was just our small group. Not only were the dinoflagellates almost at their peak, but there was an unusually large number of the comb jellyfish (ctenophores) that were amazing as well. Because of our small group, we were even able to see a dolphin!
Excellent tour! The bioluminescent activity city was 10/10. Our guides were amazing! Using Groupon is my only regret. Go through the company’s direct website you will save $15 pp.
What a magical experience! We took the 10pm tour, and it was well worth staying up for, with darkness making the bioluminescence pop. I hadn’t expected it to be so vivid! The clear bottom kayak let us see the light streaming under the boat in the brighter spots. Our guide Jared was friendly and knowledgeable, and obviously excited about sharing the joy with us. We didn’t have any issues with bugs on the water, although they were fierce at the landing spot, and we appreciated the bug spray he offered while we got set up. I had some mobility issues due to a foot injury, and Jared was very accommodating, even storing my crutches in his truck while we were out. Thank you, Jared!
Our sunset tour got rained out. So, they added us to the 10pm tour. Absolutely amazing time. It was so much better than I thought it would be. Matt, our guide knew all about the “glowing stuff”. He explained it in both simple and scientific terms. It was great being led by a person that genuinely likes what he’s doing. He had a good sense of humor too. 20 out of 10 to do again. Matt! We had the best time. Thanks for the great wet, in boat experience.
The tour was amazing, it was pretty dark, with really no moon glow so the water was really glowing! Got to see glowing comb jellyfish, mullet jumping. Ben, our guide was awesome 👌 very knowledgeable. He even helped us old folks out of the kayak! 🤣 Highly recommend!
Amazing concept, went with teenagers, had a lot of fun, very unique. Definitely recommend. Don’t forget a bug spray.
Had such a great time with my family on this tour. It was amazing and our tour guides Cody, Logan and Nelly were so knowledgable and super friendly. They made the tour so interesting and fun for all of us. I can't believe I've lived most of my life in Florida and never even knew about the bioluminescene on the coast. It was an amazing experience and I highly recommend it for tourists and locals. Note: I recommend bringing bug spray and be generous with it.
The guides helped making this an extraordinary experience. The bioluminescence was amazing as there was almost no moon. Skies were clear providing cosmic view. The kayak itself was mild, but maybe if you are not fit it may be harder. The guides deliver on every turn and have deep love for nature! We would book them again in a blink of an eye. Eco tourism at its best. So happy we did this!
Such an amazing experience! I only recently learned about the bioluminescence tours, and I am so glad I booked with A Day Away. I called them directly to book, and the customer service was fantastic! The launch site was easy to find, with plenty of parking. Check in process was super easy. Our guides, Jackson and Kaitlyn, were so awesome! Very friendly, funny, knowledgeable, and really seemed to enjoy their job. Overall, I enjoyed myself so very much, and will definitely be booking again to see the comb jellies!
Had an amazing time with Ben our guide. Luckily for me and my wife we were alone for the tour with Ben. First off be prepared for your arms to hurt if you haven’t done this before. It was our first time in a kayak but Ben did amazing showing us how to be safe and how to keep momentum. The camera does capture ok photos but it has to be very dark out to really see anything on your phone. Definitely was a great time on the water and a cool experience. Thank you again Ben for a fun tour!
Oh my gosh!! How to explain?? Exhilarating at times for sure but the best part of our trip ao far!! Sammie was sooo sweet and wow she knew everything there was to know about the area, the wildlife and most importantly the reason for our trip….the bioluminescent algae!!! You won’t be disappointed!!!
Amazing bioluminescent kayak tour! Sean Paul, and Ricky were awesome guides. Fun, memorable experience!
We drove out to Titusville to Haulaway Canal to see the bioluminescence using a glass bottomed kayak, but the trip was SO much more. Our guide, Jorge, said to try to get there early, and we did. We went around the island while the sun set, and listened to birds and saw egrets, ibis, ospreys, herons, flamingos and so many more-even chickens. Then we headed for the canals. The canals were incredible. Just kayaking at night in the mangroves would have been great. But we passed Fred the alligator, held comb jellies, created bioluminescence with our hands and paddles, and did not experience a manatee "rodeo" (haha) for which I was grateful. Jorge was a fountain of knowledge about the unparalleled biodiversity of the area, AND his his day job is working at a job related to one of the launches we saw so he talked to us about that and about the night sky and how starlight is us looking back in time ...just such a multi faceted experience. As we were headed back, a curious dolphin showed up to play. It's a good trip when every single day we think "Wow; it can't get better than this !" The next day, based on our conversations, Jorge alerted us that the booster from the launch was going to be in Port Canaveral, so we saw that, too! Thank you, Jorge for being such an extraordinary guide: we will come back with our family.

Zoey was an exceptional guide. The tour was an amazing and interactive learning experience.
We visited in mid-to-late April, and unfortunately the bioluminescence was not very visible at that time of year — so that part of the experience was a bit limited. However, our guide Jorge was fantastic. He was very knowledgeable, friendly, and explained a lot about the local environment and wildlife, which made the trip enjoyable despite the conditions. We really appreciated his effort and enthusiasm. Overall, it was still a good experience, but if your main goal is to see strong bioluminescence, I would recommend going later in the summer (around May–July). Also, definitely bring bug spray and wear long sleeves and pants — otherwise you might end up like me, becoming an all-you-can-eat buffet for mosquitoes and bugs 😅
This tour was amazing! Our guide was Jorge and he was just stellar! I got to learn about the wildlife with the prettiest views!! Can't recommend this enough!
Jorge is a wonderdul and knowledgeable tour guide! The tour was a highlight of our vacation!
Brandi was great. We were the only ones and she was so making my 9 year old feel comfortable and answering questions.
The tour guides were very friendly and super informative. You even get to hold the jelly comb and watch it glow in your hand. Thank you both for a wonderful time!
The bioluminescence from the jellies was outstanding and our tour guide, Island, made the experience fun and entertaining.
Excellent adventure. Very knowledgeable guide. We did get to see the famous Fred the alligator as well as a dolphin and manatee.
My friends and I had such a great time. This is my second time doing the bioluminescence tour. Both times I have enjoyed it so much. The tour guides, last time Zoey, this time Jackson, were both delights. We were able to see both the phytoplankton and the comb jellies this time. The beauty of creation never ceases to amaze me. Of you like nature, you will love it.
Went as a party of 4 and it was an amazing experience. The stars and Milky Way were the most visible I’ve ever personally seen and we got to see some comb jellies along the way. We missed dinoflagellate season, but that just gives us an excuse to come again. Jorge was a great tour guide and I felt safe even as a first time kayaker. He explained the stars, Kennedy Space Center, the cause of the bioluminescence, and so much more. He was very knowledgeable and easy to talk to. PSA: BRING SANDALS OR WATER SHOES!!! Most of our party made the rookie mistake of not packing any and we definitely paid for it.
Very expensive, wet life preservers, no bathrooms, basically just kayaking in the dark, way overpriced activity for not seeing much of anything.
Crystal was such a nice guide and she went the extra mile(s) for us. She was new in this spot so she had went out early to scope out the area (she is in one of my photos). We had the benefit of seeing the sunset which was gorgeous. Because it was so early and there was quite a bit of light pollution we didn’t see a ton of bioluminescence but we did see some and it was amazing. Crystal did everything she could by taking us all over and around mangroves to try to find some - and we did. But it was so beautiful out in the water at night that it was still worth the trip!!! Our group was very small which was delightful. The only thing to be aware of is that the clear kayaks are not nimble crafts and do not maneuver like a standard kayak does. You will get used to it but they consider them “bathtubs in the water” and that is a very apt description. With that said it’s really neat seeing the bioluminiscent creatures under the boat!!! It was a great time and we are really pleased we went. Do not forget the big spray though!!!
We had a great time. The tour lasted about 2 hours. Jackson was outlr guide and he was very knowledgeable. It was late in the season for the bioluminescents but the comb jelly fish were everywhere. We saw dolphins, possibly a manatee, an Osprey and tons of fish jumping. The stars were bright and the water was calm. Overall it was a great way to spend the night. Bring bug spray...
Good staff, terrible weather. Went to the site but thunder lightening wind and waves. Of course in Florida summer rain is always possible. So the event cancelled was by the company chief. Unfortunately rescheduling for our party of 10 isn’t possible.
We headed out just as the sun was setting and melting into soft shades of pink and purple. The water was calm, and the air had that quiet stillness that only comes right before nightfall. As we paddled farther from shore, the light faded and the stars began to peek through the sky. Once darkness settled in, the bioluminescence slowly began to appear. Slightly glowing with each stroke the paddle like sparks dancing beneath the surface. It was subtle however as the night drew in it was more visual and a trail followed up beneath the clear kayak. We saw cob jellyfish, with their translucent bodies pulsing with light when gently handled. Flying mullet fish leapt from the water, catching the moonlight as they skimmed the surface. And above us, shooting stars streaked across the sky, adding a cosmic touch to an already surreal experience. A special thank-you to Caroline, whose warmth, insight, and easygoing nature made the evening even more memorable. She was calm, knowledgeable, and clearly passionate about the environment and struck the perfect balance between informative and laid-back, letting us soak in the beauty while feeling completely supported. This tour wasn’t loud or flashy—it was tranquil, immersive, and quietly breathtaking. If you’re looking for a way to disconnect and witness something rare and beautiful, this is it!
If you have ever wanted to do this now is the time. August 19, 2025. The bioluminesense is so bright!!! Our tour guide Catherine was so awesome, we did the latest tour mid week and we had a small group and it was so great. I have done it several times now but the bio is the best I have ever seen. Saw jellies, mullet and a manatee.
Jorge and Keira were amazing! Very knowledgeable and it was easy to grab a boat and get going in the water. The bioluminescence was very bright in the summer warm water and new moon conditions
I booked the 10:30 PM clear kayak tour at 7 PM the same day. Just one hour later at 8 PM, I received an email saying the tour was canceled due to weather. The timing felt last minute and frustrating, especially since I had just made the reservation. When I called to ask for a full refund, the woman on the phone explained that she had been “watching the storms.” If they were already aware of incoming and surrounding weather conditions, they should not have continued accepting new bookings. That felt irresponsible and misleading. I also purchased trip protection, but I’m still not getting all my money back, they’re keeping $15. I don’t understand the point of buying protection if it doesn’t guarantee a full refund when the cancellation isn’t even my fault. Overall, I’m really disappointed with how this was handled. I expected better communication, better planning, and better customer service from this company. Im not satisfied with my experience and hope they improve their refund policies and customer service.
I have done this experience four other times in the past 15 years, but this one was the best ever. We saw the most fish we had ever seen, both under the water and hundreds or thousands leaping and frolicking out of the water all around us. It was amazing and un whirly and wonderful. To hear people laughing and exclaiming in the dark and to see the glowing in the water and above as the fish went crazy was so much fun. The guides prepared us for every event that could possibly happen and they took great care of us. I’m sorry I can’t remember the names, but they were perfect and we felt safe and informed. We had a group of six, one boy was from Switzerland and two people from Kansas City. It was really great to introduce them to this natural wonder, something so unlike a theme park that you can’t describe it. I recommend this to anyone who wants to go. You never know what you’re going to see, but it will always be spectacular. Well, done, kayak company!
This was my second time going out on this tour with guides. Zoe and Devyn. They were fantastic in showing us ways to interact with the bioluminescent water, jumping mullets and the possibility of waking up a sleeping manatee (which we did encounter!) Our group of 9 had such a great time and our guides moved at a good pace making sure everyone was safe and answering all our questions. Between the beautiful clear sky and bioluminescent water, I didn't know where to look! Brought my niece and her two teens who were mesmerized by the whole experience. Highly recommend A Day Away Kayak tours for giving us such a magical evening!
One word: AMAZING. Several other words: so much fun, something we've wanted to do for a long time, and we're so glad we finally did it and chose A Day Away for our first time out on a bioluminescence tour--we have kayaks and go out paddling a lot, but we've never done it at night and we hadn't ever tried the clear kayaks despite the fact that we've talked about it for years. So glad we finally did it! We had an awesome time, and our guides (Brandy and Tiffany--I hope I'm spelling their names correctly!) were so cool, nice and knowledgeable; we learned a lot and had a wonderful trip, and we felt completely safe and we could tell we were in good hands, which is hugely important when you're going out on the water at any time, but especially at night. It was such a serene and lovely evening and we can't wait to go back. :)
We had an excellent kayaking experience with A Day Away Kayak. Our guide Jackson, was great - very knowledgeable and professional. We learned so much from him about the natural habitat in the water and along the coastline. The sunset was gorgeous, the bioluminescence was very cool, and the night sky was absolutely amazing. We will definitely book another tour with this company!
Awesome experience. Thanks Aiden for showing us the beauty of the intercostal at night! The bioluminescence was incredible to experience.
Drew and Josh really made this trip an outstanding experience. This was unlike anything we have ever done before. The clear boats are really less kayak and more canoe like in my opinion but they are pretty stable. Drew and Josh made sure we had easy ingress and egress into the kayaks and the water. As a local, Drew knew a lot about the dinoflagellates and local birds and fish - and shared that with the group. It was very very dark that night (which was great for viewing the bioluminescent micro-organisms) but it would have been easy to get lost if not for Josh who kept and eye on all of our group (there were 8 kayaks total). The bioluminescent phenomena was really amazing. We were lucky enough to have a low mosquito night. There was just enough wind to keep the bugs down but not too much wind to make the water rough. The non-kayak top/cover of the boats clearly allowed for a lot of water (from the paddles) to accumulate on the clothes and at the bottom of the boat so you should account for that when planning what you will wear - you will get wet, anything under the range of the paddle will get soaked. For us, it was definitely a magical experience. Would definitely do it again and would definitely recommend to friends.
We had a beautiful night. Full moon! Plenty of stars, dolphins, manatees. A little low on the bioluminescence but that was because of the full moon. Would wear long pants and long sleeves due to mosquitos! Bring bug spray. Overall great experience! Would go again!
Kayaking with manatees was an unforgettable experience! Our guide, Island, was amazing and very knowledgeable! He handled constant questions from a 9 year old boy with ease and even added some humor!
On the afternoon of our trip, were contacted to sign online waivers, which was no problem, and we later received acknowledgement that they'd been received. So we assumed all was set for the trip later that day! In the evening, we turned up at the appointed time, and the specified place (in the middle of nowhere), but it was pitch black, with nobody around. We waited for 15 minutes, but having had no message or email either saying "Where are you?", (perhaps we'd gone to the wrong place), or "Sorry we're delayed" we gave up. 48 hours later have still heard nothing at all. Very unprofessional and very, very disappointing.
It was great, so glad we went. Bioluminescence was beautiful and our guide Island was fun and personable. We almost canceled the tour after a long day of traveling and poor customer service with other companies, however, Island was so much fun and completely turned our night around. Went during a half moon night and was still able to see the bioluminescence, the clear kayaks made it super easy to spot!
We had no idea this existed and it was a lot of fun. Our guide Drew was great, very friendly, very personable and VERY knowledgeable. We went on the late tour and so didn't see lots of wildlife, but the bioluminescence was excellent, around the boat, the oars, and under the boat. We also got to catch some glowing pseudo -jellyfish and that was fascinating. Plus it was nice to be on the water when it was so quiet. Would definitely recommend it.
FABULOUS! Our guide, Island, was friendly and informative. I would recommend to anyone. The clear kayaks are not as monuverable as regular kayaks, but it's cool to see tge bioluminescent underneath.
We only saw “sparks” of bioluminescence but that’s no fault of the guide. But I feel my kayak wasn’t balanced properly as the bow popped up a lot and made it difficult to row straight. I was in a kayak of the same size as the tandems but I was rowing by myself in the back so maybe it needed weights in the front to balance or maybe a smaller center-seated kayak like the guide had would have been better. Despite this, the guide was knowledgeable and I’m glad he tethered my parents to his kayak since they were having trouble rowing in sync.
When we were on the water- it was great. But there were sand fleas and we ended up getting bit waiting in the guides to pass out paddles and give instructions. We had over 45 bites on our legs and itched for 8 days after the excursion. Make sure you wear long sleeve pants and shirts on the evening tours
Our guides were kind and informative. The bioluminescence was very cool! I loved looking at it through the bottom of the clear kayak. The night was clear so the amount of stars we saw was as amazing as the bioluminescence. I will recommend and would love to do it again sometime.
Traveller advice, book direct or double/triple check your booking with the company. We booked through Trip Advsior and the ticket gave the wrong location for the tour pick up. Consequently we were in one place (in the middle of nowhere in the dark) and the tour was taking place 30-40mins away. Had we booked direct then we would not have had this problem or missed out on what should have been an amazing trip. Also because we booked via Trip Advisor we couldn’t go via the company to sort things out. I don’t want anyone else to miss out so maybe just go to them direct.
