Jared was an absolutely incredible tour guide. Very informative and knowledgeable as well as attentive to all of us. One suggestion, use throw pads for under the kayak seats. It will provide additional safety but more importantly, comfort.

Bioluminescent Kayak Tours - Summer Bioluminescence: Dinoflagellate (cloudy bluegreen glow) - peak season May to early November - Winter Bioluminescence: Comb Jelly (Individual glowing jellies) - peak season late November to April - During the warm summer months the waters of Florida's Indian River and Mosquito Lagoon come alive with single-celled microorganisms called dinoflagellates. - In the cooler Florida months, bioluminescent Comb Jellies congregate in the protected waters of the Indian River Lagoon. Living in the most bio-diverse estuary in North America, Comb Jellies are clear, glob-like creatures that, despite their name, do not sting! So as you paddle the calm waters laced with mangroves and palm trees, you can catch and hold these gentle glowing creatures. They're right at your fingertips while having a safe, awe-inspiring kayak adventure with those who share your enthusiasm for new and unique experiences.

I was SO excited to get to see the bioluminescence! About ten minutes in, we learned that once the water gets below a certain degree ( 70 I think), the bio go to the bottom and aren't disturbed by our paddles so there will be no bio until probably march when it warms back up. False advertizing much?! Not cool at all. If you want a kayak tour in the dark where you see nothing (maybe some birds or a dolphin fin in the distance) then take this tour. If you want to see the bio, don't take it between October and March. It was such a waste of time and money. The tour guide was nice, but that's about all the good I can say.
Island was a wonderful guide. We were out in the water quickly and got to see everything we expected to see. We learned a lot about the surrounding areas and enjoyed the wildlife we encountered.
We had such a great time! Even with it being late in the season to see the bioluminescent it was still beautiful. Our tour guide Logan was phenomenal and so informative (which we later found out he's studying to be a Marine Biologist. Best of luck Logan!)
Anthony was our guide and we had an amazing time! He was extremely knowledgeable and kind. I have always wanted to experience bioluminescence and this did not disappoint! I highly recommend trying this experience if you are in the area.
We arrived at Beacon 42 and another tour guide from a different company stated they had left without us. I contacted the number provided and got an immediate response! The guide was just further down the beach. Whew! The tour was at night with a bit of wind and chop on the lagoon. We were novice kayakers but it was manageable and we felt very safe. We had an amazing time. Jackson was a great guide and made the tour memorable. The bioluminescence was incredible. Billowy pale clouds and sparkles as we paddled. Looking at the bottom of the kayak made me feel like we were gliding through the stars. We had a mullet jump into our boat which Jackson promptly rescued. I highly recommend this tour and will bring family back to experience it next year. Worth every penny.
We did a clear kayak bioluminescence tour with Logan and Sarah, who were excellent. We saw lots of bioluminescence and the comb jellies! Had a great time, highly recommend!
Great experience great time to go. We saw both the luminescent alge and the comb jellyfish. Lots of fish. So cool to see the water light up with just a touch. Drew our guide was great, very knowledgeable on the ecosystem and the area. Would highly recommend.
Rough start with some confusion with a change of meeting spots but glad we got to do it. Our guide Matt was very knowledgeable and patient, he took his time and showed us so many things like Jellies that glowed in our hand. We were inexperienced and over weight but it didn't make a difference, we quickly learned how to maneuver the kayak. The water was like stars in the sky under the clear bottom kayak. A manatee scared us coming up out of nowhere but that just added to the experience. You must try this. It was an experience of a lifetime!
Our bioluminescent tour was absolutely incredible, and so much of that was because of our guide, Jared! The bioluminescent plankton and comb jellies were breathtaking on their own, but having Jared with us made the experience SO much more immersive and special. He was incredibly knowledgeable, funny, kind, and genuinely went out of his way to make sure we had the best experience possible. He shared so many little tips and tricks that we never would have known if we had tried to experience it on our own. One of my favorite moments was when Jared gave his net to our daughter so she could catch the comb jellies herself. It absolutely made her night, and it was such a thoughtful gesture that she’ll remember. You can tell Jared truly loves what he does and loves sharing it with people. He didn’t just guide us through the experience—he made it an adventure we’ll be talking about for a long time. I would not hesitate for a second to book this experience. I would go again in a heartbeat, and if we do, we’ll absolutely be requesting Jared! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This was my second time using A Day Away to do this experience and it was just as breathtaking as the first time. The weather was not good on the day of my trip and I was very impressed with how quickly and efficiently the tour guides communicated with us about what the status was on having to cancel or not. I’m so glad the storm passed, leaving clear moonlight. It was my boyfriend’s first time and he had such fun being able to touch glowing sea jellies and hold them in his hand. We both love the magical feeling this experience has and recommend this to everyone we know. The tour guides were telling us all about the wildlife as well as cracking some very “dad” jokes. They are very knowledgeable about the creatures and share that love and respect with the guests. I thought I was going to have to visit the Maldives to experience this wonder, but here it is so close to home and very reasonably priced for something that will take your breath away. I hope to be able to do this again, I will bring extra bug spray next time, lol.
We had an amazing experience! After having to reschedule twice due to safety from bad storms we finally was able to do our tour, which ended up just being us that booked that night. It was beautiful! The glow was so bright! Well worth the wait and rescheduling. Our tour guide was Renata and she was amazing. She was friendly, very knowledgeable, funny which made the tour even better. I’d highly recommend this tour, and if you are able to request Renata I would recommend it!
I want to let everyone know how good of a time I had on the Bio luminescent tour the other night 🌃. All the mullet . I would recommend the tour . I had so much fun with the tour guides, especially Carrie . She was very informative and fun . She had us laughing so hard . The mullets were jumping in the boat. She told us this was the bst time of year for the bioluminescent. Thank you Carrie and the Bioluminescent Kayak Tours.
We had an amazing experience on the bioluminescent kayaking tour! Seeing the water light up around our kayaks was absolutely magical and made for such a memorable family experience with our kids. Our guides (Logan & Sarah) were friendly, knowledgeable, and did a great job making everyone feel comfortable. They kept the group on track, but at a relaxed pace and not rushed at all. We learned so many fun facts as well! We especially appreciated that they carefully checked the weather and water conditions before departing to make sure everything was safe. The tour was well organized, informative, and so much fun! Meeting point is easy to find, ample parking, and even saw a few manatees very close in the water while waiting for tour to begin. Highly recommend this experience if you’re looking for something unique to do in Florida! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This was such a unique experience! Our guide was so helpful, and well educated on the eco systems, etc. My teenager was so thrilled to see the fish and water light up. We even saw a Dolphin jump out. I want to go back again, soon. I highly recommend this company.
Zoe was a great tour guide. This was one of the best tours I have done.
I enjoyed the kayak evening trip last month. The water was full of jellyfish type life which could be scooped up with a net, in the kayak, and touched. Safe to touch with your hands, and safe for the animals. The water was smooth and easy to maneuver the kayak on. Would recommend the trip to everyone to enjoy an evening on the river.
This was totally unique and awesome! Our guide was a local, so he knew the area very well, which meant that we saw the spot with the strongest bioluminescence and it was incredible. You really do need to go kayaking to actually see how intense and beautiful it really is. The shorelines really don’t do it justice. On the tour our guide showed us bioluminescent jellies and we spotted all kinds of wildlife. It was so cool to hear about the area and the conservation efforts put in place for it. I absolutely recommend this tour if you want to see bioluminescence in the States! Very different and almost unbelievable experience!
Wonderful experience - absolutely magical! Storms threatened to cancel our outing but our guides suggested we wait it out and I’m so glad we did. A late start provided even darker skies and the water glowed as soon as we started. They took us to multiple spots looking for the brighter glow and the fish were jumping and zooming around leaving glow trails it was mesmerizing!!the light rain actually added to the magic as each drop made the water glow. We had a fish jump in our boat which was funny and a manatee gave us a rocking ride which was a big scary but just added to the adventure. I’d definitely recommend!!
Fantastic experience! Nice guides who explained things very well and kept us all safe and happy! One of the best experiences my family has had in Florida.
A great experience and a great guide. Anthony knew everything about the area and a pretty good amount on what causes the bioluminescence! Good equipment, just the right amount of effort and time. Summer evening after sundown was perfect. Highly recommend the company and the tour.
Unique experience worth staying up late to do in full darkness. Tessa was a great guide and helped us understand what we were looking for and hearing in the darkness.
Great experience! “Ant” was extremely knowledgeable, accommodating and friendly.
This tour was hands-down one of the coolest experiences I’ve ever had in Florida! It was incredibly magical watching the water light up with every stroke of the paddle and seeing fish zooming around underneath us. Seriously, it was such a unique and unforgettable experience! Our guide, Renata, made the whole evening even better. She was knowledgeable, confident, funny, and clearly passionate about what she does. She kept the tour fun and engaging while making everything feel easy and comfortable, and it was clear that she knew how to create a memorable experience for everyone!! Carrie and Sarah were also wonderful guides in our group as well!!!! The three of them made everything run smoothly—from helping us find the location and get our equipment to getting us launched onto the water. They just made the entire night an absolute blast! 10/10 would absolutely recommend this tour to anyone! If you get the chance to do it, DO IT. So wicked! ✨🌊🦠
This tour was hands-down one of the coolest experiences I’ve had in Florida! It was SO incredibly magical watching the water light up with every single strike of the paddle and seeing fish zooming around underneath us. Seriously, it was the coolest thing ever! Our guide, Renata, made the whole experience even more of a blast!!! She and our other guides made everything so easy and fun—from helping us find the location and get our equipment to launching and, of course, making the entire night a freakin’ hoot. 10/10 would absolutely recommend this tour to anyone! If you get the chance to do it, DO IT. SO WICKED!!! ✨🌊🦠🤘🏻
We had a phenomenal time. Renata and helpers were awesome. The lights were fantastic.
An absolute breathtaking experience! My first time on a kayak and I honestly was a little worried about my lack of athleticism, but I didn’t seem to have any problems in the duo kayak! I wasn’t really sure what to expect but Drew really blew it out of the park for us, not only was he really clear about everything we had to do and what to expect, I absolutely LOVED how much learning we got to do. The bioluminescence was everything I could’ve imagined, honestly felt like I was in a storybook at times. My time here in Florida has been full of awesome experiences but this by far has topped the list by a long shot. Thank you Drew!
We had an awesome time tonight on our Bioluminescence Kayak Tour with our guide Jared. It was a calm night out on the water and under the the beautiful sky. Jared was quite informative and guided through the waters with ease. We got out on the water just in time to see a beautiful sunset, a Manatee gave our guide, Jared and all of us a surprise as we witnessed a Manatee rodeo, we saw "Little John" the Alligator, schools of jumping Mullet one even hit my daughter in the arm! The Jumping Fish: Mullet (specifically Striped or White Mullet) These schooling fish constantly leap completely out of the water, especially when startled by a kayak or paddle movement. They can leap several feet in the air, often creating trails of glowing blue water as they launch through the bioluminescent dinoflagellates. The Glowing "Jellyfish": Comb Jellies (Ctenophores) Despite their appearance, comb jellies are not true jellyfish—they don't sting at all and are completely harmless to touch. They emit a cold blue-green light (bioluminescence) when agitated. During the day or under direct light, the tiny hair-like cilia they use to swim diffract sunlight into a shimmering rainbow pattern. We were nervous about mosquitoes and no seeums so I ordered a mosquito net suit from Amazon for $19.99 and we didn't get one bite!! I highly recommend this tour it's one you will remember.
One of the coolest things you can do on the coast. The bioluminescence was unlike anything you’ll see before and we had so many mullet jump, like lightning in the water. We also saw dolphins and them hunting! My friends and I have travelled around the world and combine have been to around 50 countries, and we all said this is one of the coolest things we’ve ever done. The guides David and Jessica were amazing, knowledgeable, and made sure we were all safe and having fun the whole time.
Amazing experience. Renada, Nellie, and Kay were wonderful guides, it was a perfect family outing.
It was an incredible experience, we walked out to the meeting point where they talked us through everything we were doing, and what to do in an emergency. The kayaks were in good shape, as were the paddles. They had 3 guides for our big group, and they were all very friendly and helpful. Depending on how long you book your tour for will change how far you go. We didn’t even realize we had paddled 1.5 miles we were having so much fun. The bioluminescence was mesmerizing, we went on a new moon in August, and it was super bright. The pictures do not capture how bright it really is. I recommend looking into the best times to go if you’re really wanting to see the bioluminescence!
It was a magical night. We saw bright glowing waters, flying fish and even a shooting star. Absolutely worth seeing again and again. The guides were passionate and friendly. They were very patient with our kids who were trying to get the hang of paddling.
Great time in the water and seeing the Bioluminescence was really neat. Guides knew what they were doing and were safety conscious.
The meeting location had ample parking. After a safety protocol chat, we were ready to get in the boats. Garrett guided us to calmer waters where an amazing sunset was just the beginning of a magical evening. A sea turtle made a rare appearance. As darkness settled in the bioluminescence became visible with each stroke of the paddle. The mullet started hopping causing trails of bioluminescence. Our sweep, Blue, was always close by to kindly answer questions and help with the kayaks. A bottle- nose dolphin briefly showed itself. Even though we were in Mosquito Lagoon, bugs were not an issue! The time passed so quickly, the rowing was pretty easy.
The tour was exactly as described in the promotional. David, Dylan, Coyote, and Sara all did a great job at keeping the group together and informed along the way. Not an easy task when you have several people who have never kayaked before. Choose this bioluminescence tour and you won’t be disappointed.
10/10. Was magical! Dont miss out! Jared and his crew were awesome! Will book again.
What an awesome experience - a true “bucket list” item! Ashton and Anthony were great guides who took time to educate and allow us to revel in the wonder of it all. Highly recommend!
What a fun trip! Matthew was our guide, he was friendly and knowledgeable. We had a great time and the bioluminescence was amazing. We saw all gators, dolphins and cool fish glowing in the water like magic! We would do this again would recommend.
Our guide, Matt was knowledgeable about the area and made the trip really fun for the group. Highly recommended for anyone to see the bioluminescence and enjoy a night on the river.
This was my 2nd experience, and I brought along 3 newbies! It was awesome!
What an unforgettable experience! This bioluminescence kayak tour was one of the absolute highlights of our holiday. Watching the water sparkle and glow as the conditions allowed was truly magical, and being out on the water at night made the whole experience feel so special. A huge thank you to all of the guides, who were fantastic from start to finish. Everyone was friendly, professional, and worked hard to make sure the whole group had a great time. A special mention to Anthony, whose knowledge was exceptional. He shared so many fascinating facts about the bioluminescence, wildlife, and the local area, making the tour both educational and entertaining. We also have to give a special thank you to Cody, who was amazing with our 9-year-old son. He was funny, engaging, and made him feel really included, which meant the world to us. We can’t recommend this tour highly enough. It was a unique experience we’ll never forget. Finally, here’s our 9-year-old son’s review: “Cody was so nice to me when I went he gave me a net to catch comb jelly wish I could go back from Milo xx”
My friends and I wanted to do the bioluminescence kayaking and booked separately. A couple of people in our group booked a different location (lack of communication on our part) but the office realized the mistakes and called to have it sorted out. We all showed up, did the safety briefing, got in the kayaks and had a blast! Our tour guide was named Drew and he was the best! He made us laugh at his dad jokes but really educated us on the wildlife all around. It was so neat to see the water change when disrupted. 10/10! I would like to do this experience again!
Renata, Dylan and Jessica were excellent guides! Fun night on the water. An experience you must see for yourself.
Definitely something worth doing once or twice in your life. Everything was amazing to watch. Im glad i didnt book an earlier tour. The darker the better to be able to catch all the different things that light up the water under you.
This was so much fun - would totally do it again and again! Renata and Dillon were so helpful and knowledgeable.
The most amazing experience. We were lucky enough to have the perfect July night. I have never seen anything like it. I highly recommend this adventure. I wish I could’ve gotten decent pictures to do the evening justice.
Amazing experience. Zoe and Megan were great guides. Zoe made sure everyone was engaged and having a good time. You can Zoe really enjoys these tours. Megan caught a few comb jellyfish for anyone to hold and even shared a bit of insight on the constellations we saw on a beautifally clear night. Would absolutely do this tour again. I'm looking forward to the manatee & dolphin tour with A Day Away
Our guides Zoe and Megan were fantastic. They both were very knowledgeable and shared interesting info pertaining to the bioluminescence with our group. Safety was a top concern and they were on top of that throughout the kayaking. We have been with A Day Away before and will continue to see the bioluminescence with them. Thank you Zoe and Megan and the team!
Amazing experience. Zoe and Megan were fantastic guides. The bioluminescence was awesome to experience. Watching the fish glow as they jumped out of the water or zoomed through the water was pretty cool. Megan caught comb jellyfish which was another fun exp. Megan even threw in a tutorial on the constellations. Highly recommend this tour.
It was wonderful and the guides (Dillon, Matthew and Jessica) were awesome, very informative and made the experience fun. A bonus was they did fireworks in Port Canaveral that night, so we got to see that while we were kayaking. I would recommend this for everyone.
