Great size rooms, I all of my time exploring the city. there was a queen size bed in one room and a pull out one in the other. The on suite had a shower. I feel we were close to the major sites. I would stay there again.

We stayed here during our honeymoon and were incredibly disappointed. The reality of this hotel does not match the photos or expectations set by their website. Our original "superior" room had a shower so tight we literally could not even lift our arms to wash our hair. This was never an option when we looked at the gallery of photos on the website. When we complained about this unusable setup, we were moved to a different room, but that brought a whole new set of issues. The new room was inaccessible by the elevator, so we had to hike up two flights of stairs every single time we left or returned to our room. Once we were in our room, there was another flight of stairs within the room that led to the bathroom. However, the ceilings were about 6 feet tall, which was a problem for my 6'7" husband, and the toilets were separated from the showers by another bedroom that we did not use. It was a very awkward and unwelcoming space. The rooms themselves were incredibly dark and severely outdated, and not in a charming, historic way. Certain details like peeling paint, rust in the bathroom, and build-up on the faucets were very noticeable. To top it all off, the breakfast was not good at all. There was quite a variety available, but most of the offerings are subpar pastries, lukewarm items in chafing pans, or canned fruit dumped into bowls. The coffee was just okay. I will say that the service at the front desk was okay, and the folks running breakfast seem nice. This is a nice location, and they seemingly must have nice rooms on the property if the pictures from the website were taken there. I suppose you are just taking a gamble on whether you will get stuck in a glorified college dorm room, even if you book a superior room. Please do not make the same mistake that I did. I was totally tricked by the pictures on the website and the four-star rating. This hotel was the low point of our honeymoon. The website does a great job of hiding the cramped and awkward layout, dark rooms, and serious accessibility issues of this property. Look elsewhere if you want a comfortable stay in Florence.
We just returned from a 3 week honeymoon in Italy which required a LOT of planning. I normally am not one to leave a review, but we relied so heavily on them to plan our trip so I wanted to share my experience to hopefully help someone else out. :) This was a solid hotel! The biggest selling points are the location and the private rooftop terrace. The hotel breakfast was good as well. The rooms were okay, nothing special. The hotel staff wasn't as helpful / friendly as we experienced at other places. I'd still recommend this hotel though. We enjoyed our time here!
Hotel Torre Guelfa was once the home of a wealthy 13 c family, and has been nicely made into a nice hotel. This was one of four hotels we stayed at in Italy, and their breakfast was the very best of all of them. They will make you cappuccinos and espresso drinks and their pistachio filled croissants are to die for. They also offered scrambled eggs and sautéed vegetables in addition to all the usual European type items. The front desk staff were so helpful and friendly. Our room was large and the cleaning staff kept everything in order. Don't miss the rooftop bar, especially at sunset. We were there in April and we were lucky to get the last two seats so go early during high season.
This hotel is very close to the river Arno and ponte vecchio. It is superb built in the 13th Century. It has a stone tower that can be climbef with a bar at the top and views to die for. So romantic and beautiful. The hotel rooms wrre amazing. Full of character. The dining room was like a banqueting hall. Service was amazing and location in florence perfect. Florence is so besutiful would recommend this place to anyone.
