Even though rooms are small having a balcony was amazing! Our stay was wonderful and pleasant with professional, friendly and curtious staff who were willing to help anytime they could. The location was absolutely perfect, walking distance to historical center, to Arno River, the while city. I would gladly chose to stay again!

I stayed for eight nights at the Hotel Croce di Malta in September and I would definitely stay there again. The location is great and very convenient to the train station as well as the historic sights of Florence (including the ancient pharmacy across the street). The breakfast is wonderful (scrambled eggs and bacon!) and all of the staff are very helpful. My room was a little plain, but I had a little balcony and the bathroom was newly renovated. The air conditioning worked great. The front desk staff ordered a taxi for me and even gave me a little packaged breakfast snack for my early morning departure. I did not visit the rooftop bar, but it was nice to sit by the pool in the mornings with my coffee.
Great hotel! Near train station to walk. Elevator. Pool with garden. Excellent Breakfast. Air conditioning. Views from small balcony. Friendly and helpful staff. Great service. The sink clogged up and was fixed within the hour. The mini fridge wasn’t working but was fixed quickly as well. The only thing I would change is keeping the rooftop bar open later than 10pm. Thank you so much for a wonderful vacation!
Hotel Croce di Malta is something of an oddity on the elegant street running parallel to Via dei Condotti, surrounded by luxury boutiques, an upmarket restaurant and the grand Hotel Inghilterra. Its entrance is so discreet that I walked straight past it. My single room was tiny, cell-like, and extremely basic. The furniture looked like a mismatched collection of second-hand pieces, and the décor did nothing to make the room feel welcoming. While I appreciated that the air conditioning was already on when I arrived, the temperature appeared to be fixed at around 25–26°C. Noise was a bit of an issue. The mini-fridge was loud enough that I had to switch it off at night, the plumbing could clearly be heard whenever neighbouring guests used their bathrooms, and in the morning I could even hear a couple of other guests' alarm clocks. The reception area is just as dated and uninspiring as the rooms. Staff ranged from reasonably friendly to indifferent. When I reported that the wall-mounted hairdryer was partly broken—the hose had been taped to the unit and had to be held in place while drying my hair—the response was simply a shrug. The hotel also charges €10 to store luggage after midday, even though it is kept behind the reception desk in the mini café area. When I asked why, I was given an unconvincing explanation about "responsibility". Many hotels provide this service free of charge. The hotel appeared clean, and its location on a quiet street in the heart of Rome is excellent. Unfortunately, despite its prime location, it feels neglected and outdated, with little effort made to provide a comfortable or welcoming experience.
The hotel is within easy walking distance of all of the major sightseeing locations and museums in Florence. The nearby piazza and great little gelateria on the corner made for a lovely spot to end an early evening. Our rooms were spacious and spotless, comfortable mattress and pillows, and the air conditioning, as well as an elevator, very welcomed. A lovely quiet bar on the first floor opened up to an outdoor area and pool where it was nice to relax at the end of a busy day of sightseeing. Best of all was the rooftop bar, where 360-degree view of the city was gorgeous. The breakfast was excellent, with many options and good coffee! Water and coffee, refrigerator, and lockbox provided in the room were nice amenities. The service was superb. The staff were courteous, friendly, very helpful, and all spoke English (I speak only a few words of Italian). We brought the wrong adaptor and the hotel was able to quickly find one for us to use, which we so appreciated. We will certainly be back!
