Northern Lights Hunting Photography Tour In Levi

We had the most magical night viewing the Northern Lights with Leevi our tour guide. He knew exactly where to go to view the Northern Lights. The tour was a small group of eight people. The tour exceeded all our expectations. Highly recommend

We booked at Beyond Arctic Levi (who by the way do not have a daily office presence in Levi) the Northern Lights Hunting Photography Tour in Levi and paid over €800 for the six of us to be driven around — which was essentially all we received. Of course, the Northern Lights / Aurora are a natural phenomenon and, with some bad luck as we had, it simply doesn't appear always. However… Beyond Arctic claims on their website that they do everything possible to find the aurora, that they send along a professional photographer who will help you set up your camera to take night photos and that you will receive high quality photos of your group. Our experience was very poor in all these areas: The “search for the Northern lights” consisted of noting else than the guide stating he saw 1 star, than "now he is gone", over and over again while we were sitting in a cabin. We received no assistance at all with photography, and the eight photos we eventually received a week later were extremely poor — out of focus and/or nowhere near what you should expect from a professional photographer. My advice: book a similar tour with another company that offers a money back guarantee if no Northern Lights are found or simply rent a car / hire an Uber yourself and drive to places like Mountain Top Pallastunturi or the area around the village of Keras Sieppi to explore yourself and save a lot of money (and frustration as in our case). I strongly advise against choosing Beyond Arctic based on the above, but also because of the contact we had afterwards with them showing no self reflection, they remain stuck in their own belief that they have delivered what they promised and were not willing to look for / consider any solution or offer even a simple apology for the services they failed to provide.

We went on an Aurora Hunt tour with Beyond Arctic in Levi and no fault of Beyond Arctic, we did not have a good night Aurora wise due to heavy cloud. The tour is called a'hunt' and that is certainly what our guide did, trying to find clear skies and we did manage to see a brief glimpse of it for about 60 seconds. It happens! What we would strongly recommend however, is if you require the use of a tripod as promised by Beyond Arctic, make sure you advise or ask about this BEFORE your tour date.

We drove many kilometers to have a clear sky but we are very lucky at least we saw a lot of northterlights ang Nina our guide was very nice and tenacious and obstinate.she is a good driver.

We had booked the northern lights tour for 7 people for the 29th of December 2024 a couple months in advance. Our guide Nina came to pick us up at our accommodation at 7:30pm. We took a short detour to the main office to pick up some extra gear, however, in regards to clothing we didn’t need any extra stuff. She handed us a backpack which we carried with us throughout the evening. After that we were off hunting the northern lights. We rode in a minivan since it was only us 7 and out guide Nina. The weather hadn’t been great all day it was mostly cloudy all day. So right away we asked Nina about the chances of seeing Northern lights that night. She remained positive and told us that there’s always a chance. It took her a while to find a spot where the sky wasn’t covered in clouds but after about 40 minutes of driving she did. We got out of the car and looked at the stars in the sky. It was nice, but no Northern lights so far. We took a couple of pictures and continued our ride. After another 30 minutes in the car we arrived at a hotel parking lot. Nina had been in contact with other tour guides throughout the drive. We walked about 10 minutes, looked at the sky, took a couple more pictures but still no Northern lights. We could not even see the stars anymore. Nina took a few pictures with her camera to see if the Northern lights were „hiding“ but no luck. She offered a blue glowing stick to take group pictures. In hindsight it seemed more like an attempt to lighten the mood because we were getting a little frustrated with the way this adventure was going. We had given her an e-mail address back at the office so she could send us the pictures „in a couple days“. A couple of days turned into 1,5 weeks and the pictures were a blurry mess. Back to the tour. The weather kept getting worse, it had started snowing and we decided to sit down at the hotel bar and take a short break, wait for the weather to improve and then keep going. We treated Nina to a hot drink. She called one of the other guides and she seemed hopeful that the weather would change for the better. We talked a little about the best conditions to see Northern lights and then continued out journey to hunt Northern light or at least that’s what we thought. We kept driving for about an hour, the weather didn’t change much and all of the sudden we were back at our accommodation. Nina hadn’t said much throughout the drive. It was 11pm, we were back at our house and stunned by what had just happened. Nina said her goodbyes by adding that we were unlucky and then she was gone. To say that we were disappointed would be an understatement. We know that you can never be 100% certain to see the Northern lights and nobody is to fault for the horrendous weather conditions that night. But we would’ve wished for better communication throughout the tour. We had asked right away what our chances were and not once did it seem like an impossible feat. We also would’ve liked clearer communication regarding the plan to drive back to Levi instead of continuing the tour. We also didn’t see the advertised snacks and drinks during our tour. Quite the opposite: we treated out guide to a drink. At the start of the tour Nina asked if we had any time limit for the tour, which we didn’t, so we could’ve gone longer. We understand that it probably wouldn’t have changed the outcome of the night but it just seemed a little odd to us in the overall picture. The Northern lights tour was supposed to be one of the highlights of our trip to Finland but did not meet our expectations at all. Nobody is at fault for the weather but we had expected more for the price we had payed. For anybody traveling to Finland: Our experience has been that you can see the Northern lights whenever there is enough activity (use an app for checking that) and there’s a clear sky. You don’t need a guide for that especially because nobody can guarantee good weather for the night you booked the tour.

Although we didn’t see aurora , AJ is a great guilde and photographer. This event has given us very special and wonderful memories.

It was amazing. Our guide picked us up on time, provided us with tripods, headlights. The most amazing thing, the journey to the location was merely around 15minutes and WE SAW THE LIGHT once we got down from the car! The guide was excited too and took many photos for all of us. He remembered my girl rejected him for solo photo, and asked her again to take one. The lights never stop throughout the night. After a short drink and snack break, he brought the group to another side but the lights not as strong as before. We called it a night after this. We were very happy with the experience, highly recommended!

I had a very disappointing experience with this aurora hunting tour. Despite the clear weather forecast indicating no chance of seeing the aurora that night, the tour was still conducted. We spent hours with no realistic expectation of success, which could have been communicated beforehand. The company should prioritize honesty and customer satisfaction over running tours when they know the experience won’t deliver. I cannot recommend this service and would advise others to look for more transparent and customer-focused operators.

We had this experience with Oren, unfortunately, due to cloudy weather we didn’t see the northern lights, however, our guide OREN took a lot of effort to entertained us all specially in our photos and made this experience one of the best night we had in Finland! We highly recommended him!

In Levi I lived the unique experience to see the northern lights. With Beyond Arctic we had a great experience, starting with better pick-up arrange in the morning and continuing with a costant presence during and after the activity. Meri has been a wonderful guide for us, explaining a lot about our doubts and curiosità, always supportive in our photo requests. Definitely to be suggested to all that want to have a complete service in Levi.

Had a great time hunting, our tour guide did her best to find northern lights. Unfortunately, we didn't see any northern lights, this can be expected it's a natural event and out of guide hands. She drove out to many and far points , and we learned so much of local and tradition. We took and had great photo taken. Had some sausage and yummy berry tea. Our tour guide was very helpful and kind and did thier best to make sure our experience was great. Though we didn't see northern lights loved waking in the woods to the pond and being around nature. Guide always made sure we all were okay.

The tour was well organised. The two girls/ladies who guided us and who drove the car were very friendly and helpfull. We could not see the northern light with our own eyes, but through the camera you could see more. It was wel organised, not too over organised, so a basic ride for a good, quite authentic excursion, although more people went to the lake. But the ladies did the best they could and we enjoyed it! We had a great time on our photograpytour. Meri helped us setting up the camera’s and took great pictures of us with the Northern light. It was a small group which was nice.

This tour was an amazing experience. We learned so much about Finland from our tour guide Markus. He was very knowledgeable and had so much interest in making our northern lights hunt the best it could be. He really went above and beyond. This tour exceeded our expectations. It was a difficult night for seeing the northern lights, however he tried his best and stayed out as long as we could to maximize our chances. He had awesome ideas for pictures even though we couldn’t see the northern lights. The pictures turned out amazing. He also set up a bonfire for us in a very scenic location and we roasted sausages and marshmallows. It was a really great time. Since we were out late, he even offered to dropped us off on the way back and called us a taxi so that we were able to make our flight in the morning on time. It truly was a wonderful experience all around that I would 100% recommend. You will not be disappointed with this tour.

The tour was incredible. Our guide Meri had a tough work because on the day before the boreals were very strong and we could see in the city. But she bring us in several places and in the end we had an amazing experience. Totally recommend it ! And in the end amazing pictures.

We paid €800 just to have a mini fire and freeze from the cold. Our guide knew for sure that you couldn't see the lights and still chose to go.

One month before the event, I booked the "Northern Lights Hunting Photography Tour in Levi" held by the Beyond Artic through the Tripadvisor. It is easy to book the tour online. It is a small group tour of only 8 persons. We had opted to be picked up at the Levi Suites Levi Gold, Torikuja 3, Sirkka, Levi 99130, Finland, but our guide is also the driver messaged us to change the pick up point at their Office at Myllyjoentie 2, 99130 Kittila. We had used the Google map to search the pick up point one day before the tour. Fortunately, we found the correct way to the pick up point. Our guide was nice and helpful. She tried hard to search the best site of seeing Northern Lights. She drove to three sites and finally found the best location. She also took photos for us under the Northern Lights and snowy sky. It was worth to joint this tour, we obtained beautiful Northern Lights photos from the guide by email.

Mery was so kind and did all she could to take the perfect pictures of us, really enjoyed this experience!

wonderful experience with Oren, our guide who very professionally led us to chase the tracks of the Northern Lights. the conditions seemed not to be entirely optimal, but while we were waiting in the wild forest drinking currant juice and taking photos, she appeared. Oren the guide is a very nice, knowledgeable and enthusiastic person. we recommend this tour!!

We want to thank Markus for going above and beyond during our tour. Weather forecast was unfavorable, but we drove almost to boarders of Sweden and in the end we had 3 stops where we could see the Northern lights. Thanks again!

Great tour. They took us to two different places until we found the northern lights. It was amazing. We also got to spend time in a cozy tent with a bonfire and eat some sausages. Oren, the guide, was amazing in his explanation and a great person.

One of our best experiences we ever had! Ryan was a true northern lights hunter! Very experienced and knowledgeable! Helpful and willing to take a ton of pictures. The tour was well organized including the food and clothing. If you are looking for to see the northern lights (weather permitting) this is the tour and Ryan your guide.

It's harder than I thought to see auroras. You are subject to solar activity and weather. It was hard to see them, but in the end we made it. The attention of beyond artic excellent.

I had a very negative experience with the organization and I am completely disappointed. We felt cheated and ripped off as, despite the adverse weather conditions in Levi and knowing that seeing the Northern Lights would be almost impossible, we were assured that we would have the opportunity to see them. The guide took us to a distant point, about 100 km away, and although the sky was completely cloudy, he did not try to explore other places. He just waited until time passed to get back to the starting point. Besides the obvious disinterest in the excursion, it is clear to me that all they care about is making money, no matter if they have to lie to achieve it. I have no doubt the intent was just to rip us off. My recommendation is to avoid **Beyond Arctic**, as your focus on the business seems to be above offering a genuine experience. danporti@ucm.es

夫婦ともども英語能力が高くなかったですが、ガイドさんがとてもよいフォローをしてくれました。 三脚の貸出をしてくれた上に、写真の取り方(特にiPhone)のレクチャーもしてくれました。 結果、オーロラを写真におさめる事ができたのでいいハネムーンになりしま。 注意するとしたら、撮影場所が恐らく想像以上に寒い事や、撮影時間もそれなりにあるので、防寒対策は自身でしっかりしていくか、レンタルする事をおすすめします。

We were taken to a place 70km away from Levi where we were able to see the amazing aurora borealis spread across the sky. Our guide, Meri, was very friendly and gave us advice on photography and took some great photos. Thank you Meri-san and my two companions for the enjoyable time. Koichi/Fumie

Many thanks to Emma. She took us in the minivan to a great viewing point in the middle of the snow desert. Gave tips for taking your own photos of the Northern Lights, and photographed the participants according to their wishes. We had a nice chat around the campfire during the snack afterwards with sausages and hot berry juice. Absolutely great - thanks again!!!

Pues, dejando de lado la profesionalidad de la guía fotógrafa, que no cuestiono, en un día totalmente nublado, donde el pronóstico presume pensar de la dificultad extrema de ver la Aurora Boreal o de directamente no verla, no hay un plan B más que hacer muchos kilómetros y mucha carretera para rellenar el tiempo comprometido.

Super accueil. Notre guide a fait de son mieux pour que nous voyions le plus d’aurores possibles et ça a été top top top ! Que du bonheur.

We will never forget this Northern Lights hunting tour. Our guide Pasi was super motivated and his love for the Northern Lights was very evident. The tour is not easy (we were on the road for a total of 5 hours) and we trudged through deep snow to get to the best viewing points. The tour was made perfect by the beautiful photos that we received by email afterwards. Thank you again for the unforgettable experience.

Unfortunately we were unable to spot the Northern Lights due to the clouds. We already expected this a bit after seeing the weather forecasts, but it was still a nice evening. We were a small group of seven people. Despite missing the Northern Lights, she (Meri) did her best to make something of it. My friend even got help with the camera settings, so she could photograph the Northern Lights herself on a clear night. We also enjoyed warm berry juice and grilled sausages and ate them by the campfire.

Tour very well organized and conducted. Guide Emma demonstrated a firm commitment to finding the best sky and scenery so we could admire the northern lights!

The tour was well planned, Meri was motivated and flexible to take us to the perfect place. We made three stops, including a campfire, grilling sausages and a warm drink. At each stop she took great photos of us with the Northern Lights!

Meri explained in detail how to set up the photo for the aurora and how the aurora occurs. Although we didn't see the aurora, we took photos with the beautiful starry sky, which became a very fond memory. We were also able to rent winter clothes.

We had a great time with Matias and Oren accompanying us. Hunting for the Northern Lights was awesome. The walk in the forest was great.
