Itinerary
On our journey from Fes to Chefchaouen, we'll make a brief stop at Barrage Sidi Chahed, Meknes, Morocco
Chefchaouen, or Chaouen, is a city in the Rif Mountains of northwest Morocco. It’s known for the striking, blue-washed buildings of its old town. Leather and weaving workshops line its steep cobbled lanes. In the shady main square of Place Outa el Hammam is the red-walled Kasbah, a 15th-century fortress and dungeon, and Chefchouen Ethnographic Museum. The octagonal minaret of the Great Mosque rises nearby.
The kasbah is a heavily restored walled fortress that now contains a lovely garden, a small ethnographic museum, and an even smaller art gallery. The ethnographic museum contains some fascinating views of old Chefchaouen, including the plaza and the kasbah; the gallery promotes the work of local artists. The views from the kasbah tower over the medina are a delight.

A 4 hour long drive from Fes and spent about 4 hours in Chefchaouen was worthwhile. Mohsen, the driver for day trip to Chefchaouen was skillful and tough job. Chefchaouen is beautiful blue city with various alleys in decorated in blue. Be aware certain alleys require tipping.
I was a bit disappointed in this tour. I very much appreciate that the tour manager allowed us to go one way and take our luggage with us so that we got a hotel in Chefchauoun and stayed there for the night. I actually recommend doing that. Other than that, the driver was late picking us up, the transportation was okay but not overly, comfortable, and the tour guide left a lot to be desired. He was a very character filled older gentleman and he was very funny. We wandered through the streets after wasting 45 minutes waiting for another tour group to meet up with us. We learned nothing but enjoyed some of his jokes. I think it's probably likely one could do Chefchaouen on on their own although I would not say that about other medinas in morocco.
Well organized trip and good value for money. Pick up and drop off was smooth. The guide was very friendly and kept checking in on everyone. Bear in mind the trip to chefchaouen is only 4 hours long which may be enough for some people but not for others. For us it was enough as it was too hot to explore further. But on a good day with nice weather I would have wanted to stay for longer.
So my review is not only for the Chefchouen tour but all the other tours that I took with this company. Basically when I booked the Chefchouen tour one of the representative of this company reached out to me and asked me where else I am planning to visit in Morocco and once I told them my plans they sold me bunch of other tours, most of the tours was sold in more expensive prices then they are supposed to be even after selling me directly without any agency in between, so here is a breakdown and the reviews of each of the tours. - Chefchouen: this was a fun tour, our driver was very interactive and we had a great group and all of us became friends. Chefchouen itself is very touristy mountain town, no point in staying there for a night and day trip from fez or Tanger should be perfect, I would give this tour a 4 star. - Tanger half day tour : This tour cost $60 which was a little more than what it should be. The tour was good, the driver didn’t showed the American legation museum and grand socco which was in the list. I would rate it a 3.5 star. - 3 day desert tour from Fez to Marrakesh : This was a good tour but lots of driving. There was only stop in atlas mountain, in the tour description it said there will be several stops. Also there were lots of good scenic points in the Atlas Mountains and no stops was given. I would give this tour a 3.5 star. - Dinner and culture show in Fes : This one costed $45, again overpriced. The dinner and show was good with pick up and drop off. 4 star. - 1 day Marrakesh sightseeing : This was the worst of all the tour and I will give a 1 star, it costed $100. You will get the same tour in $30. The driver was not in time, have, not at all guided, he was just driving around it was an absolutely waste of time. At the second half of the day a guide showed up and started showing me the Medina which I can do it by myself, nothing that was planned he was not following until I insisted him to. The communication is good from the company and they don’t do any hotel pick up and drop off which they mentioned in the description.
We were picked up in the morning around 8am from Fez and arrived at Chefchaouen around noon. The drive is long but goes through lovely mountain scenery. The guide was nice and helped give us a high-level overview of the city. We then explored the city which was very picturesque and cool before heading back at 4pm. Overall the experience was as advertised and very enjoyable.
The van was old and extremely uncomfortable, with no air conditioning, which made the journey exhausting. More concerning, the driver was using WhatsApp while driving, which felt unsafe and unprofessional. Once we arrived in Chefchaouen, the experience didn’t improve. The tour guide provided little to no information about the destination and did not speak English, making it difficult to understand anything or engage with the tour. Overall, I would not recommend this tour due to the poor conditions, lack of safety and bad guide.
The excursion to Fes was great. Our guide Muha Buzga was right on time and took us safely on our drive. Our group spoked different languages but that wasn’t a problem him.
The road journey from Fez to Chefchaouen is very beautiful. We had a good experience on this trip. The only thing we had a bit of trouble with on the way back was the transport car's AC, which wasn't working well. The car was pretty hot for the entire 4 hours of the journey and that made our return pretty troubled.
Tour guide was super easy and was so much fun to be around. City tour was short and easy and still gave us time to explore on our own!
I was pleased with my driver, Mohcine, and he did a great job of picking me up in Fez to begin journey. He was attentive to my needs on the multi-hour journey and made rest stops as needed. I enjoyed my time in Chefchaouen and it I had to do it over again I would have stayed a couple of nights in the city, then journeyed on to Tangier. It was my first trip to Morocco and I found the people welcoming. The natives are eager to show you their country and genuinely extend their hospitality to visitors.
I had an amazing experience visiting the Blue City of Chefchaouen with Moha. He was more than just a driver, he was a wonderful guide and quickly became a friend. Throughout the journey, he kept us entertained with music, singing, and jokes, making the entire ride fun and memorable. His positive energy and genuine care for his guests truly stood out. Thanks to Moha, this trip became one of the highlights of my time in Morocco. I highly recommend booking your Chefchaouen excursion with him if you’re looking for a fun, professional, and unforgettable experience. Please ask for him when you book!!
Never made it to our destination as the only road in was blocked by heavy rains. Sad!!! But we ventured to 2 alternative destinations which good.
This tour was a good way to visit the Blue City from Fez. We wish there had been more free time to explore on our own!
Very attentive and kind to guide us during the way to and from Chefchaouen. I was a bit unwell during the trip and they were helpful to me, they stopped and made sure I was well. I really recommend them for your visit to Chefchaouen.
An excellent day out - long drive there and back, but good experience and well worth seeing this beautiful blue town with its kind and friendly people.
It was a wonderful day trip to chefchaouen from Fes with Abdelhadi the tour guide and Mahfood (driver). Highly recommended tour
Labhar was our driver and provided very good Morocco information along the trip. He also showed lots of professionalism when there was some miscommunication earlier due to other customers’ hiccup. Overall highly recommend!
From the moment Abdelhadi, my tour guide, and Salah, the driver, arrived at my hotel in Fes to pick me up, I already felt I was in good hands. We drove through mountains and valleys toward Chefchaouen, the Blue City that whispers stories from history with every shade of blue on its walls. Yet as beautiful as the destination was, the journey became just as memorable because of the men who led it. Abdelhadi is patient, knowledgeable, and carries the gift of making a stranger feel like a welcome guest in his land. Salah drove with calm confidence, giving the journey a smooth rhythm that allowed me to simply observe Morocco as it revealed itself through the window. They waited, they explained, they guided, they laughed, they took pictures, and they never rushed me once. After a full day of exploring the alleys, the squares, the views above the mountains, and the quiet corners where the soul can breathe, they drove me all the way back to Fes and dropped me at my hotel door as if I was family returning home. There are trips you take, and there are memories you collect. This experience was both. I give it five solid stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ and I pray more travellers will find their way to Abdelhadi and Salah the way I did. Shukran to you both.
Abdelhadi was incredibly gentle, kind, and explanatory during the tour – he made our experience truly memorable. Salah drove safely and skillfully, ensuring we felt comfortable throughout the trip. The city is picturesque and absolutely worth visiting!" 😊🗺️
Very calm ride and a helpful driver through beautiful mountains and relaxed trip earlin the morning.
The day trip to the Blue City was well organized. We met our van driver Salah and his coworker Houssin bright and early at a meeting point not far from our riad. It took about 4 hours to get to a scenic viewpoint where we spent like 10 minutes taking panoramic photos of Chefchaouen. What a breathtaking view! After we entered the city, we were met with an excellent 82 year old tour guide Hassan who took us through the narrow streets and telling us stories about the city. After that we had about 2.5 hours to explore the city on our town before meeting the van at where we were dropped off. Salah and Houssin took us safely back to Fez where we met 12 hours ago. The beauty of the city was well worth the 8 hour long van rides. I highly recommend this trip.
It was a great experience especially considering the price point. The guide, Abdelhadi, relayed information and did an excellent job in making sure we received coordination info (especially those who were changing busses to different final destinations). The driver, Hassan, drove well and was timely. Overall, it was a beautiful small city with a lot of history which the guides did a good job in relaying.
The driver was okay. The primary guide was horrible. He was unfriendly, did not inform us, and did not allow us a different drop-off location than the pickup place. Furthermore, he was unprofessional; at some point, he simply disappeared without saying goodbye. The guide in Chefchaouen was okay. During the trip, the guides used too many languages (switching between languages excessively), which wasted time and made the communication confusing and inefficient.
The tour guide was very knowledgeable and answered all our questions . The city is beautiful and food is traditional and good. I recommend the Tagine, cooked well and lower risk of getting sick .The ride there is long and the driver took some risks, but that is the way they drive in Morocco.
The tour was great. Abdelhadi and Mahfod were excellent and knowledgeable. I would recommend this tour to anyone who wants to see Chefchaouen. The ride was smooth and we had a lot of fun!
Excellent experience, Moha and his partner were very nice to the group, the day was rainy and the driver was very careful and good driver. They were always giving advices and taking care of the group. It was good trip. The agencia contacted with romero confirm, we were satisfied with the trip. The guide who leads us through the Medina was patient and gave enough explinantions.
Abdul was an absolutely wonderful guide! From start to finish, he made our walking tour memorable with his deep knowledge, warm personality, and great sense of humor. He was incredibly informative, sharing fascinating insights at every stop, yet always made the group feel relaxed and welcomed. His hospitality and friendly approach created such a comfortable atmosphere, and his storytelling brought the history and culture of the area to life. We couldn’t have asked for a better guide. A big thank you, Abdul, for an unforgettable experience!
For our long day, we had an excellent, safe driver (Moha), who did a terrific job getting us there and back. He was friendly, multilingual, upbeat, and imparted information very well. We enjoyed seeing the countryside between Fes and Chefchaouen, and having a couple of rest stops along the way. Old Chefchaouen was a lovely experience. We enjoyed our free time. It would help if the tour company could identify a WC there. The only WC’s we could find near there were rodent-ridden or beyond dirty. Our guide knew a lot but would stop the group and pretty much talk to one person by standing less than a foot away and it was rather uncomfortable. The vehicle was good for the most part, but one passenger had a non-working seatbelt and a few complained of seatbelt or seat issues that made 2x4h tough on them. The retracting step was faulty, therefore unsafe, so the van needs a step stool for the elderly. Personally, I would rather have had 1 hour less free time and got back to Fes before dark. We enjoyed our day!
The tour met my expectations. It was run as described, a 3-4 hour ride from Fes, 3-4 hours in Chefchaouen, then the ride back. It is a long day, but the bus was comfortable, the A/C worked and rest stops were helpful with refreshments and bathroom stops. A local guide in Chefchaouen gave us a good overview of the town and its history for about an hour, after which we were free to explore on our own (the tour guide tour was optional). Our bus guide and town guide were helpful and informative.
Loved the day trip. Drive was a bit long but glad we did it as a tour. Our local town guide was wonderful! Beautiful town, very worth all the effort to see it.
Had a very good experience with our guide Abdelhadi and our driver Salah. Very informative and did everything they could to keep us informed and entertained.
We booked a day trip to Chefchaouen with this company and were lucky to have the amazing Zaki as our driver. He was outstanding—skilled, responsible, informative, and incredibly helpful. We even asked him to stop at a McDonald’s (since we didn’t want a restaurant after the trip), and he did so without hesitation. I highly recommend booking with them. Thank you, Zaki, for your kindness and excellent service!
We were not 100% pleased with our tour. The driver and guide on bus were very nice; however, the guide at Blue City we could hardly understand. He should’ve separated the groups by language and approached the group as he was “supposedly” providing info. In addition I believe at most he was with us 40 min.
Day trip from Fez to Chefchaouen. The day started off rough with a bumpy ride on a bus that had a broken AC and mechanical issues. Thankfully, the organizers acted quickly and arranged a taxi to get us to Chefchaouen without too much delay. Once there, we met a local guide who unfortunately was difficult to understand and displayed poor manners (frequent throat clearing and nose blowing), which took away from the experience. The city itself was somewhat underwhelming—picturesque in parts, but overall dirtier than expected and not as charming as social media often portrays. The bus was repaired for the long ride back to Fez, which was smoother, and everyone was conveniently dropped off near their hotels. Overall, it was okay to see Chefchaouen for a few hours, but I wouldn’t recommend staying overnight. The day was decently managed given the circumstances, but the destination didn’t quite live up to the hype.
Abdul and the great team took us on an amazing one-day trip, ensuring our safety and making it an unforgettable experience.
I booked my day trip to Chefchaouen last minute , I was on the fence about it because I didn’t want to dedicate an entire day to another city but it was worth it. I was greeted by my guides , a driver named Saleh and two polyglot speakers that effortlessly communicated with the group in several languages abdelhadi and Omar. Abdelhadi and Omar have amazing personalities , they are both personable and down to earth, the perfect people to be guiding a tour like this one. On the way back I wasn’t feeling the best , And Abdelhadi and Omar were so patient with me and I felt like they cared about getting me some relief. Chefchaoeun is a beautiful city , probably the most aesthetically beautiful places I’ve seen thus far, and I’m glad I had amazing people there that added to my experience.
Mustapha was my driver to Chefchaouen. He was great!! Treated me to a great selection of music and was good company for the drive
The actual tour is ok. Long drive from Fez. Unfortunately we had a very bad experience with the transportation van. The young driver was driving too fast on a rainy day that on a curve the van did a 360. Lucky nobody got hurt and lucky did not run out of the road. We all were very scared. Be careful on who drives and monitor the speed these people drive. I think the tour should start a lot earlier so driving can be slower and safer. They try to speed everything and by that safety is not important.
The drive there felt long. The road is winding and hilly, but the change in scenery and environment is really interesting. Once we got to Chefchaouen, the guide walked us through the old side and new side. Gave us a lot of information about the area. We were to our own exploring for about two hours.
The tour is technically just a transfer. You're bring brought to Chefchaouen with 2 intermediate stops at photo locations and 1 stop for a short breakfast. On the way back it's just a single coffee/bathroom stop. It takes around 4 hours to get there. The car has seen better days, but AC was working and seat belts were available, that's it. The tour description reminds to bring your own beverages - as there's no water in the car. The time given to see the city is around 4 hours, too - and that is more than enough.
Our driver Sadd, was excellent a shame we couldn’t say the same for the vehicle that was supplied. In sweltering 41c temperatures the air conditioning wasn’t working. The four hour journey was miserable as we were boiled alive, extended by an hour as we came across a road traffic accident. We dreaded the drive back it was just the same. To cap it all the vehicle broke down 40 minutes from arriving back in Fez and we had to wait for a replacement vehicle to collect us. When I spoke to Tripadvisor about all this they said they have to turn the air conditioning off to prevent the vehicle from over heating. In which case they should have cancelled the trip, we were very much overheating and could have easily suffered heat stroke. SO JUST A TIP, check on the aircon before you board !!😓😓😓
Had a great time, definitely worth it, it’s a beautiful small city and there’s lots of shops/riads/markets to visit, our driver Mustapha was very friendly, would recommend
Our driver was amazing. The guided tour wasn't spectacular but we had enough time to explore on our own and the van was comfortable so we could sleep
It was truly one of the best experiences. Although it was a very hot day, we still enjoyed the entire time. Our guides were also excellent.
I went on the day trip to Chefchaouen and I'd recommend to anyone staying in Fes for a few days. The city is beautiful and cooler than Fes. It's a great little day trip. Although it's a 4-hour drive each way, they break up the trip with stops at vistas and rest stops so the time flies. You get 4 hours in the city along with a guided tour. You can do a lot in that amount of time and take lots of beautiful photos.
The trip was amazing we stopped along the way to take pictures of other interesting locations. Hassan was a great driver and Said was great at organising the trip and checking that everything is going smoothly. Also the group got a very nice tour of Chefchaouen and there was plenty of time to explore it.
A longer drive but well worth it. Our guides stopped along the way to break up the drive and were very organised and knowledgeable. The city itself is amazing - the walking tour was fabulous and the lunch recommendation was nice. Would definitely recommend to others
Mustapha is very patient answering all my questions. He is a well informed guide. I was picked up and returned safely in the same place.
We had a fantastic experience on this small group tour from Fes to Chefchaouen. The ride was smooth, the driver Labhar was very friendly and informative, and the scenery through the mountains was stunning. The Mercedes Benz bus was clean and comfortable, we even felt like this is a private transfer because there were only two of us and one extra passenger. Chefchaouen itself was absolutely beautiful - we had plenty of time to explore, take photos, and enjoy the town. The free guide from the tour in the city is a must have - incredible knowledge and personality! Everything was well-organized and relaxed. Highly recommend this trip!
