Had a wonderful private day tour to Volubilis and Meknes. My driver Mr. Younis Allaoui spoke good English, was prompt, very informative, professional, and kind. He took me to all the important historical sites mentioned on the tour. Highly recommended !!

Itinerary
Your first stop will be the ruined Roman city of Volubilis. French archaeologists began excavating Volubilis in the early 20th century, though half of the immense sight still remains beneath centuries of topsoil. Marvel at the famous sights, like the basilica, the triumphal arc, and the many palaces with their exquisite mosaics. The tour of Volubilis can be done either with or without a local guide. Next you will make a quick stop in the adjacent small town of Moulay Idriss Zerhoun. Perched atop a hill overlooking Volubilis, Moulay Idriss Zerhoun houses the mausoleum of Moulay Idriss I (745-791), the first Arab king of Morocco. During your stop in Moulay Idriss Zerhoun you will go to a panoramic view point, visit the town center, and get lunch, a snack, or a beverage. Youur last stop will be the mighty walled Imperial City of Meknes. Smaller in comparison to the other Moroccan Imperial Cities, Meknes held the status of capital of Morocco for only 55 years during the reign of the infamous king Moulay Ismail (1634-1727). Still, Meknes’s old city offers a trove of sights for a curious visitor: Moulay Idriss’s massive stables, capacious granary, and cavernous underground prison. You will also visit Moulay Idriss’s mausoleum (one of the only mosques in Morocco open to tourists), the monumental Mansour Gate, the covered food market, and the El Hidem Square. Once finished with this busy day of sightseeing, you will take the highway back to Fez. You will drop you off at your hotel in the late afternoon/evening.
After a morning pick up at your hotel in Fez, we will hit the road heading west. You decide which route we take: the highway, or take the scenic route with opportunities for taking pictures of the Oulad Shaker reservoir and the surrounding rolling countryside dotted with wheat fields, olive groves, fruit trees, and vineyards. Our first stop will be the ruined Roman city of Volubilis. NOTE: in Meknes city there are two places under construction " QARA PRISON and THE GRANARY" , they may be opened later but for the moment no one can enter, apart from that any other area is available .

Had a wonderful private day tour to Volubilis and Meknes. My driver Mr. Younis Allaoui spoke good English, was prompt, very informative, professional, and kind. He took me to all the important historical sites mentioned on the tour. Highly recommended !!
The guide was very friendly and punctual. We felt safe and very welcomed. We spend enough time without rushing things through.
We did 2 trips with Omega. One to Volubilis and the other one way to Chefchaouen. On both these trips our driver was Mohammed Cherfaoui . Mohammed was an excellent driver. He is a gentleman and has great knowledge of the area and its history. I would highly recommend Mohammed.
We are very happy and satisfied with the tour. Our driver, Mr Mohamed, is very punctual. He gave us valuable information about Morocco culture and history. He is very considerate and explain the surroundings to us attentively. We appreciate his time spent with us. Most importantly, Mohamed is a careful driver. We had a very comfortable ride throughout the tour.
Our driver Mohammed had great English and provided a lot of information along the way. He was very friendly and happily answered all our questions. There was no pressure to attend anything and he took us to a good restaurant which had delicious food - we had the option to go to another restaurant if we preferred. He was very flexible and waited almost three hours while we explored Volubilis. I would highly recommend Omega Tours.
We did an all day trip with Mohammed and had a great time. We did a quick coffee stop in a village (with a bunch of stork nests) for a bit of a more local experience. The drive was beautiful rolling farm land with mountain views. The Roman mosaics at Volulbils were awesome. As others have said, it's hot out there.
I’m not going to say anything about Volubilis as a site since we had researched it beforehand and knew we wanted to visit it. Yes, it was as fascinating as we expected. But I’m so glad we chose this particular excursion. The thing about Omegatour private day trip to Volubilis and Meknes is that they offer total flexibility and are focused on the satisfaction of the client. For example, the stop at Volubilis was the most important to us. The driver told us to take as much time as we needed and just text him when we were ready to continue. We spent about 3 hours there. We also wanted to do an extra thing at the end of the tour and our driver immediately communicated with his manager Mostafa, and they were able to make it work for a reasonable extra. I am sure the shared tour is great too but you might be placed in a group with interests different than yours. This trip is also not one of those that will stop at shops known to the driver. In fact our driver said “you can’t mix culture with shopping”. Of course, you will have plenty of shopping opportunities at the Meknes Medina if that’s what you want. But you will be free to wonder and shop wherever you want and eat wherever you prefer. You can, of course, get recommendations but will not be taken to specific stops for that purpose. Our driver was Hicham. He modestly says that he speaks “a little English”. Don’t believe him. His English is great. He was very informative, very passionate about sharing his culture and very welcoming. After a while, without realizing it, I was feeling as if I was with family. Well, in fact by the end of the night, and thanks to Hicham, I was the brother of a dromedary…but that’s a story for another time.
Wow, this place is amazing, it is really calm here. Use your eyes to see this place (not just through your camera). Take a guide it’s worth it as you will get to see parts of interest without spending too much time wandering around the ruins. We had Ali who snaked around the ruins and explained many interesting facts. I recommend to go early to avoid the influx of tourists in the afternoon.
Great day tour. Our driver Said was fantastic! Very knowledgeable and friendly. He helped get us a great guide for Volubilis which was well worth the slight added cost to fully enjoy the ancient city. If possible try to get there as early as possible before the large tour groups and when it’s not too hot. The main sites of Meknes are still under renovation and if you have seen the Medina and souks of Fes there isn’t much to see but most tours are inclusive of both. For future guests going to Chefchouan as we are would have been ideal To skip Meknes and visit Volubilis for 1.5 -2 hours then continue on to overnight in Chechouan to fully see that city.
Great tour with great driver Said. Very attemptive and helpful Said was very passionate about sharing the history and culture of the beautiful cities we visited. Thank you very much! Hector.
Hicham was a wonderful driver, happily sharing his knowledge, with very good English. He was a very safe driver, fabulous Toyota vehicle, with aircon and shades on the windows to keep the Moroccan sun out when necessary. We highly recommend Hicham.
Gorgeous ruins were completely enhanced by an outstanding local guide. It was a marvelous afternoon in every way…made my history teacher heart very happy! We used Omega Tours for several excursions and loved it all. See my Chefchaouen post for guide recommendations and additional details.
The trip was amazing and Volubilis is a must see in Morocco. It is about 6-7 hours but you have a lot of choice where you want to spend your time. Our driver Amine was very helpful, friendly and easy to talk to.
We had a friendly, knowledgeable, accommodating guide, Hicham. He shared history of the region with us on the way to Volubilis and tips of places to see in Meknes. It was a very enjoyable experience.
A GREAT TOUR - SO WORTH IT!!! Our driver HICHAM was on time for pick up at where we arranged (R'Cif Square Fes) and the vehicle was a clean and new 4-wheeled drive vehicle with good seats. Hicham was very friendly and treated us politely and with care for the whole journey. He took us to a few places to see the views and suggested a good spot to eat lunch in Meknes (Palais Salma) which was very good (the beef tajine sauce was outstanding) and we even met the owner who was very nice, though we did get pulled into a carpet and artisan store by his son and it was a bit of a hard sell which we did not want. But they were fine when we explained we were just looking and we did not buy anything....though the carpets were beautiful. Volubilis is an outstanding archaeological site. Easy to navigate with some restoration going on mosaics that you can observe. We travel specifically to see epic sites such as this one and it was very worth it. Lovely complex of arches, mosaics, columns, settlement footprint. We think it was very well worth it to visit this spot. At this time, on May 23, 2023, the Meknes main gate was completely covered by huge tarps for restoration work, so we did not get to see the actual gate which we wish we had known about. The newly renovated mausoleum was beautiful however and of course the ramparts is lovely. We did not spend time in the medina, as we are staying in the medina in Fes and it started raining, so we felt we did not need to spend much time in it. Also some of our time was spent stuck in the carpet store. (ugh). We also had a nice stop overlooking the ancient city of Moulay Idriss, which looked like a place we'd go back to for lunch but not to stay. Apparently five pilgrimages to here is equal to one Haj to Mecca and it was where the idea to build Fes was born. We were dropped off back in FES where we started in the morning. Payment was easy, and we tipped our driver as he deserved every bit of it. We would very much recommend Omega Tour and especially think you should ask for HICHAM to be your driver as he was VERY good, kind, attentive and honest.
Our trip to Volubilis was very interesting. Hamza was an excellent driver and answered questions we had about Morocco while we traveled. He was sensitive to our needs and was friendly and helpful. Volubilis was fascinating. Unfortunately many of the sites in Meknes were closed for construction, but our lunch there was pleasant.
Othman was our guide and driver. He was very easy going, accommodating and very informative of the sites we visited. He made the day special, would highly recommend :-)
The journey was pleasant and comfortable. Amin was friendly, helpful and a safe driver. Would highly recommend booking.
We actually did two tours with Omega, a private Fez tour without shopping and a private day trip to Volubilis and Meknes. We were very happy with both experiences. I highly recommend visiting Volubilis and paying the extra to have a guide take you around the site. We also engaged the guide for Meknes which allowed us to see much more than if we had wandered around on our own.
We had a fantastic day trip from Fez with Amin, who was an absolutely brilliant guide. He was so friendly and gave us so much interesting information about the history and culture of the places we visited. Highly recommended.
We spent the day with our driver Mo, who drove us to Volubilis & Meknes, and made sure we were having a good time from start to finish. He was wonderful and made the experience worth every penny spent. Mo met with us at our Riad and drove us first to Volubilis through the beautiful route along the olive farms with the view of the Rif mountain range. Even though he is not an official guide, he shared with us his knowledge and his own experiences of the Fes-Volubilis-Meknes area in a informative yet the most humble way, referring us to official local guides and resources for more elaborate information. We appreciated that he was not only available to us as a driver, but as an amazing company during our journey. Volubilis was a complete wonder, and although Meknes was mostly under reconstruction, Mo did everything to make sure we did not miss anything that’s worthwhile amongst the places that are still open in Meknes. As advertised, shopping is not a part of this trip! Though, one of the cool things to see in Meknes is the crafting of iron objects with silver etching/engraving, and the process is demonstrated in a shop. While it did involve a somewhat unexpected stop at the shop, witnessing the process was worthwhile, and we were not pressured to purchase anything. As someone who is not comfortable with social pressure, I liked that this tour was oriented around experiencing culture. At the end of our trip, the manager spoke with us to make sure that everything went well during the trip, and we were able to feel that customer care is important for the agency. Again I want to give a shout-out to Mo for the trip and I hope he enjoyed our company too.
This was a day trip from Fez. Tour operator picked us up from the door of our raid. Very comfortable vehicle. He was very friendly and had a lot of knowledge about the areas. He made us feel very comfortable and went out of his way to make it a great day for us. Highly recommended!
This was a great tour and one of the highlights of our trip. Ahmed was an excellent driver and very flexible about what we saw and how our time was spent. The drive to and from Fes went through some beautiful country and Ahmed was obviously very proud to share it with us. Volubilis rivals some of the great rural Roman sites aorund the Mediterranean so the majority of our time was spent there. Meknes was also a beautiful city and worth the stop. I highly recommend this private tour as a way to see these great destinations without having to deal with a large group or strict timetable.
The private trip is definitely worth its price. You have the opportunity to decide on the different stops and therefore indidualize your trip. It is no promotion tour at all. We had a very communicative (good English), cheerful, punctual, and service-oriented driver. He drove good, but has been on his phone from time to time. We enjoyed the end of our tour where he gave us the opportunity to have a view on Fes from the mountains. Volubilis is the most worth seeing stop; Moulay Idris not necessarily a must stop, but nice from above; Meknes as historically important interesting city, but with no especially nice Medina.
the driver from Omega was very good and very flexible and talkative. as other recent reviews suggest. I would recommend for history buffs and people who don't want to feel rushed.
Our driver was Yassine who picked us up on time at Place R'CIF gate area. Yassine's english was quite good and a very pleasant young man. We took the back roads stopped at the Oulad Shaker reservoir for some photos before continuing to Volubilis. We stayed there for 1 1/2 hours and didn't pick up a guide, the ruins are impressive but no explanation was really required, we might have picked up a few things that weren't important to us. Yassine then took us to a spot above Moulay Idriss Zerhoun for a few pictures before driving through this small town onto Meknes. Yassine was a very safe driver who shared his knowledge of the area and Meknes. We stopped at the plaza for a few pictures of the snake charmers then moved on hitting only the high points (our choice) some of the gates, fortifications, stables, Royal golf course then had lunch at a great terrace restaurant Yassine recommended. We opted not to ramble around Meknes souks since we had seen enough in Fes. Yassine being a native to Fes suggested showing us some of his city. He took us to the New City, another of the Kings's palaces, went above the city for a panaramic view of the Old City then finished at a tile shop (not a sales pitch) where we learned the process of making bowls, tiles, painting, cutting and all that they can do, it was worth 1/2 hour. This is worth a trip out of city of Fes to see the southern end of the Roman Empire, get a taste of Meknes and Yassine proudly showed us the sights of his home town which was a very nice end to the outing. Yassine then dropped us back at R'CIF in the late afternoon.
Had an excellent private day trip to Volubilis and Meknes. Friendly driver with good English and excellent driving skills! Omega responded promptly to all e mails and the tour was fairly priced. I chose this company as they were wiling to tailor it to our interests and were flexible with the itinerary with no pressure to go somewhere we did not want to go. Note, this is not a guided tour, although the driver was informative. We chose to go the 'scenic route' out and the quicker motorway back. Recommended.
The success of a tour depends a lot on the guide. Our guide, Amine, was the best. The tour was exactly as described on Tripadvisor, tailored for us by Amine. He was totally flexible, always willing to extend a portion or skip a portion of the tour. He was informative and entirely receptive of our needs.
For this price I had anticipated our driver having more information about Volubilis and Meknes, but really, his English wasn’t up to scratch and he just conveyed the most basic facts. There was no guiding whatsoever—we were just dropped off and arranged a meeting time to be taken to the next stop. So basically we paid £96 for car fare. Volubilis is well with the visit, but I wouldn’t recommend this particular ‘tour’.
We booked a private day tour and were fortunate enough to have Amin. What a kind and accommodating person. I would highly recommend this tour company.
Just finished a full day private tour with Amine. He was an awesome guide. Always checking to make sure we were satisfied. The tour was well organized and we had plenty of time to see all the sites. We went to a nice place for lunch and enjoyed a great meal and special discount for Omega customers. It started pouring rain so we opted not to walk around Meknes but we did stopped by the royal palace in Fez for a photo. It was a great day! Highly recommend this company, tour, and guide!
I e-mailed enquiries about day trips to Volubilis and Meknes to several tour agencies and selected Omega tours based on the feedback here and the fact that I got a prompt, well written detailed reply in English. The tour lived up to expectations. Our guide & driver Armine arrived promptly at our Riad and took the time to discuss with us what we wanted from the day. He spoke excellent English was happy to be flexible, adjusting the plan as we liked. We started by taking a mountainous back road from Fes to the site of Volubilis, stopping on route at a glorious view point over looking a resevoir. We spent a couple of hours exploring Volubilis, then visited a viewpoint overlooking Moulay Idris before a brief stop in the town. We then went onto Meknes before returning to Fes along the motorway. Although not on the itinery, Armine was happy to drive us up to the Merenid tombs overlooking Fes before dropping us back at our accommodation. The car was a comfortable land cruiser which was carefully driven by Armine. He was happy to talk about all aspects of Moroccan life and went out of his way to make sure we had a good trip. At no point did he rush us - at each stop he told us to take our time and he would be ready whenever it suited us. When we took some time to explore Meknes, we agreed a pick up time, but he handed us a local mobile so that we could change the arrangement if we wanted more or less time. The whole experience went very smoothly from making arrangements with the agency, through to the tour itself.
I did a solo one day trip from Fez to Volubilis/Moulay Idris/Meknes. I chose this company given the good reviews and reasonable price compared to other companies (80 euros or ~120 Canadian). You are paying for a personal driver and the ability to visit the sites at your own pace. My driver picked me up promptly from the Bab Ziat gate close to my AirBnB. We took a scenic route on our way to Volubilis from Fes with a few stops for photos (about 1.5 hours). My admission to the Volubilis site was covered by the driver (10 dirhams = $1.50 Canadian). I spent about 1.5 hours exploring the site which is much more than the bus tours that I watched quickly usher their guests through in < 45 minutes. There are various private tour guides you could hire if wanted but your driver does not enter with you as a guide. When I was done exploring my driver was waiting for me at the exit. We then drove to Moulay Idris and stopped above the city for a photo-op. We stopped inside the town which did not have much to offer so I did not spend much time. We were then off to Meknes where we stopped for a view of the city as well as at the horse stables (again entrance of 10Dh was covered). After this I was driven to the main square in Meknes where I had lunch and spent about 3 hours exploring the town. My driver had recommended I check out the underground prison (entrance 10 Dh not included) which I was glad to do as they had various pieces of art work installed. My driver picked me up around 5pm from the main square and drove me back to Fes, arriving back at my AirBnB around 6-630pm. Overall I would highly recommend for the reasonable price, safe driver, and ability to travel at my own pace.
We had been recommended this tour by our hotel manager. She certainly wasnt wrong because the quality of the content and its presentation was second to none. Our driver for the day was a very informative gentleman called Jamal, who went out of his way to ensure that we really enjoyed our excursion. The sights included the "incredible" Volubis, which takes you back to the times that the Romans ruled the majority of the world and brought their incredible inventions, such as central heating and toilets. The mystery of Moulain Idris seen from a panoramic view is also a sight to be seen. Definitely an excursion well worth expiencing.
Had the pleasure of using Omegatour for a tour of the Meknes/Volubilis/Moulay Idris area while staying in Fes with my wife and young daughter. Our guide Mostafa was extremely friendly and very patient. We were scheduled to begin our tour around 10:00 but I was not feeling well. Mostafa patiently waited until I felt better and began our tour shortly after noon. Mostafa was very knowledgeable and gave us a good working history of the numerous sites we visited. He also altered our schedule so that we could see the ruins at Volubilis before the sun set and also made sure we got to visit Moulay Idriss, which was one of the highlights of my trip. I highly recommend Omegatours for anyone visiting Morocco.
We were lucky to have Hicham as our guide, he was very friendly and patient, and he didn't mind changing the schedule a little according to our needs. Communication was very solid, even though we booked last-minute!
Our guide, Nasa, was happy to taylor the tour to our interests, history and culture. The Roman ruins of Volubilis were fantastic and we had as mush time as we wanted to walk around and see the mosaics. The visit to Meknès was very good Nasa found us a superb restaurant for lunch and gave us time to enjoy the Médina, he was an excellent guide.
We went on a private full day tour to Volubilis, Moulay Idriss and Meknes, which was one of the highlights of our trip to Morocco. Originally, we only wanted to see Volubilis, but when we called to inquire, we were quickly intrigued by what else there was to see nearby. We met our guide Mostafa early in the morning in a modern and comfortable car and took a very nice route through the countryside. We could stop whenever to take pictures and Mostafa even got some fruits for us. We are not going into detail to all the stops we took (spoiler: they were all great! Our highlight was the Roman ruins). Mostafa encouraged us to take as much time as we want and offered to customize, if we wanted to see something particular. You quickly realize that Mostafa totally loves his job. He is a fantastic guide who will make any tour unforgettable. In particular, we liked that he passionately shared a lot about his country and culture, but also himself. I cannot at all understand the recent negative feedback for this tour – we can recommend 100%! Mostafa, thank you very much, we had a wonderful day. Keep up the great spirit! Let us know when you travel to Hong Kong or Munich :)

Should a Full day Private Tour do the following???? Here's what happened with Omega Tour and my Driver

1 Driver never asked if which route we wanted to take under what you can expect section
1 Driver was stopped by Police and took 15 minutes
2 Driver brings you to Volubilis and tells you that I need to purchase the ticket off to the left when the ticket was included - They later purchased it
3 Then driver says - off to the left is town of Moulay - Irdiss Zerhoun. We drive to the top of the city and he says, would you like to see anything here? I thought to myself, WHAT'S HERE? ARENT YOU THE DRIVER?????
4 We arrive to Meknes and he points out the gate and says he can't park here, so remember this gate. 5 minutes later we park and he says, OK, how much time do you want? I DONT KNOW?? What is here? Where are the things to see?????? How can I possibly know how much time I need in Meknes if I haven't seen the city or you hhaven't pointed out where I need to go to see them??? Oh, by the way, THE TOUR says you can enjoy the Masoleum, and the Mosque.... THEY ARE CLOSED AND HAVE BEEN FOR FOUR YEARS. So I finish seeing the prison which i had to pay for, and find my way back to the doors on my own.
5 By now, the day is a COMPLETE waste. I FIND ANOTHER tour company to CALL MY driver to tell him to pick me up in the parking lot. He can tell I am NOT enjoying this. He schedules a meeting for me to meet the owner of OMEGA TOURS. Omega tour owner tells me that the tour is only responsible for entry fees to Meknes and Volubilis and transport.

i FLEW in a PLANE from Fez to Marrakesh for less money. WASTE. OMEGA tour and my driver were VERY DISAPPOINTING. Go elsewhere.

Then why call it a full day private tour??? Instead of a taxi ride???

Mustafa was great. Very patient respectful and a careful driver. He was on time didn’t ever seem to be rushing me and I would highly recommend him. Very honest decent guy. I am a woman traveling alone in a Muslim country. He made me feel very safe.

I truly enjoyed this trip with omega tours through viator.it wad a private tour so the pace was my choosing.salim was great.

My guide could tell I was feeling down that day so he bought me a chocolate bar to cheer me up. Then when we arrived back to Fez he even took the time to show me a few things I missed whilst there, so I wouldn't go home with a bad impression of the city. I am highly impressed. Great company to take a tour with. Definitely recommend!

My wife and I booked a day trip from Fez to see Volubilis and Meknes. Mostafa, our driver, arrived on time and emphasized that we could be flexible with time and itinerary. I mentioned that we take lots of pictures, and we would want time to do that at our planned stops also, sometimes I would want him to stop the car between our destinations so that I could take pictures in the countryside. He was fine with this and he never expressed irritation or impatience. Overall he was very courteous and had good suggestions for what we should see.

Regarding the destinations: Volubilis was well worth the visit if you have any interest in Roman ruins, and we enjoyed Meknes. We also had the option to stop and walk in Moulay Idriss, but we declined, instead stopping at a nearby overlook for pictures of the town from a distance. Our driver apologized several times for the weather, as it reached 104F that afternoon 20 degrees warmer than usual, but I can't count this against the tour.

The one odd thing about the trip was that our driver's instruction sheet said that we requested a day trip to Casablanca. It's possible that he was kidding my wife and I disagree on this. We discussed destination just as we left our riad, and he was fine going to Volubilis and Meknes instead, where he also knew the places that we should visit.

The trip overall was very interesting. Our driver, Isham, was very informative and respectful and happy to make as many stops as we required. He had a good knowledge of all the places we visited and passed this on in very good English. He did not take us to any stalls or shops and dropped us off at a square in Meknes for us to buy our lunch and look around for an hour.

Best Viator tour I've done. The guide was excellent and a breathe of fresh air compared to many of the guides in Morocco who can be pushy or take you to places where they expect you to buy souvenirs. This tour was incredibly comfortable and the guide was extremely easy going letting you take your time wherever, stop anywhere, or even add any stops in the cities/areas that you're visiting. I had lots of fun and found the guide knowledgable and friendly. This is really the best way to take trips through Morocco. The locations were all beautiful and culturally unique in their own way and I felt like I saw a lot of Morocco that many people wouldn't. Landscapes were absolutely spectacular. Its such a different side of Morocco than I had imagined.

This is one of the best Viator tours I have ever taken. It was a four tour of Fez, Volubilis and Meknes. I enjoy photography and informed the guide. He, in turn, made sure that he took me to all the best locations during the drive and within the city to capture the best photos possible. It was simply amazing. Although this was very reasonable in price, I would have paid twice as much if I had known it would be this fantastic. If you take this tour, do NOT sign up for any other tour in Fez. You will not need it. Finally, always make sure you ask for a culture tour with no shopping. Also, pick your own restaurant rather the more expensive one they select if you want to save money.

If you want to take your time and fully explore the sites, this is the tour for you. It was me and the driver, who picked me up at my Riad in the medina right on time. There were no time restrictions at locations or when we returned to Fes. It was a great day!

Excellent tour from Fez. Karim our driver was very helpful and always very good advice. Unfortunately Meknes is still a lot of work but Karim has indicated the places to see. We recommend this excursion to get out of Fes. Do not hesitate to ask if Karim is available.
We could not have fallen into better hands, Abdel was great at exploring with us the cities of Meknés and Volubilis. Clean car, kindness, serenity and availability. If we return to Morocco we will definitely call him back!
