This was our favorite cooking lesson ever! We had a private lesson for my husband and myself. Chef Eles was so patient with us! Chef Eles has cooked in 11 different countries and is going to be featured on a French cooking show in July. This is a “Must Do” in Fes! We had an amazing experience, thank you Chef Eles!
Had an incredible cooking experience with Chef Fatima and her son at Palais Bab Sahra. They let us choose our dishes from their menu, then guided us through the local markets to select fresh ingredients. We made tajine and couscous under their expert guidance – both turned out delicious! What sets this class apart is the warm, family atmosphere. Chef Fatima and her son treated us like relatives, sharing cooking secrets and stories while ensuring we mastered each technique. They served additional Moroccan appetizers that complemented our meal perfectly. More than just a cooking class, this was a genuine cultural exchange. From market navigation to final plating, every moment felt personal and special. The knowledge we gained will let us recreate these authentic Moroccan dishes at home. If you're in Fez, don't miss this opportunity to cook with this talented family. It's an experience that will enhance your appreciation of Moroccan cuisine and culture. -Eric & Elise
The highlights: The beautiful kitchen to cook located inside a beautifully designed Palais with market to table ingredients! The experience to cook authentic Moroccan flavors in their traditional tagine cookware. Gracious hosts!
We met at the restaurant where we were given a basket and then we headed into the market to pick up fresh ingredients for our meal. We then came back to the kitchen where we learned how to make mint tea. We enjoyed the mint tea and some cookies. Then we learned how to make a Moroccan salad and tajine with our choice of meat. The tajine takes an hour to cook, so we were taken to the rooftop overlooking the city to enjoy some appetizers while we waited. All of the food was the best flavors we tasted in all of Morocco. We highly enjoyed the pumpkin dip, artichoke dip, and chili dip. The tajine also was packed with flavor and spices. Our only complaint is that we got too full and couldn't eat any more. Highly recommend this cooking class!
Mohammed and Fatima were fantastic hosts! They were extremely knowledgeable and fun. Recipes were provided at the end.
This class was such a joy and highlight of our trip. Mohammed and Fatima kept things light, fun, and interactive the whole way through and made sure that everyone in the group felt included. The walk through the souk to purchase ingredients was nice and didn't take too long - we focused on prepping ingredients and cooking most the time. The food was DELICIOUS, we learned a lot, and we got to admire the beautiful restaurant from all floors - even the 360 rooftop. It took us a while to select a cooking class (there are so many) but I'm so glad we chose this one. The location and everything else about it was just perfection.
The experience was really fun and the tagine we made was some of the best food we ate in Morocco but the experience takes about 5 to 6 hours from arrival to departure. Mohammed helped us with everything and was really great. I highly recommend him.
Mohammed and Fatima were so much fun. From beginning to end we had an authentic local experience. We shopped for veggies and meat in the market with Mohammed. He knew all the best venders to purchase from and made the process fun and informative.
One you figure out that the Palais Bab Sahra is in the Medina, you will be on your way to a great evening! Mohammed greeted us and then took the group shopping for some local produce and protein. Then we went back to the beautiful restaurant and hung out for 10-15 minutes while we waited for the chef to start our experience. When Fatima showed up we were off to the races. They gave you a few dishes to choose from. I went with the Kafta and it was a lot of fun to make with some new techniques I hadn’t seen before. Fatima is the boss! She definitely knows her way around the kitchen so pay attention lol! We ate our salads up on the rooftop terrace with a really nice sunset view overlooking the Medina, and then enjoyed a family meal with our fellow chefs once our dishes were complete. Very clean restaurant. Great cooking environment. 5 Stars all the way!
Absolutely beautiful place in the medina.Fatima guided us through making chicken tagine and salad. Delicious. Fatima also served cookies and mint tea. Our dinner included a variety of local salads and fruit. You walk a bit through the medina and it opens up to this beautifully restored multi level restaurant.
The class was great fun and took place in a well equipped kitchen. Instructions and demonstrations were easy to follow and allowed us to be involved in all aspects of the recipes. Mohammed and Fatima could not have been more helpful or informative. We were then able to relax together and enjoy the fruits of our labours supplemented by lots of extra dishes. Would definitely recommend this class.
A bit of a rocky start with unclear meeting directions. The booking said to meet at Blue Gate but unfortunately nobody showed up. We eventually had to track down the Riad location ourselves -- not an easy feat for Fez medina newbies. Once we linked up with Chef Mohamad, he took us through the market to buy our ingredients as well as his breakfast. In the kitchen, Chef Mohamod was reserved and did not teach cooking technique or share cultural insights. However, the kitchen was top-notch, and the dishes we prepared were delicious. With a few tweaks—better meetup logistics and a more engaging guide—this could easily be a five-star experience.
We had a wonderful time attending our cooking class! Our party included me, my husband and our 13 year old grandson. The activity began with going out to the market with our guide to gather the food we would be cooking. Back in the kitchen, we learned how to prepare our dishes (chicken tagine and chicken with couscous). All the food was delicious and we had such a good time with our hosts. I highly recommend this event!
Great experience and very kind welcome! We learned how to cook chicken tajine and couscous with meat and were served other delicious foods. Thank you!
This was by far the best cooking class we have taken anywhere. Mohamed and Fatima patiently led us through our recipes. We began with a trip to the market for ingredients, then returned to a beautiful, well-equipped kitchen in a fabulous setting. We made a Moroccan salad, a chicken tagine and a vegetable couscous. We also were shown all the steps to make a perfect mint tea and enjoyed it with an assortment of biscuits on a beautiful terrace overlooking the city. Dinner was served with an additional 7 small salads and dips with bread. There was so much food and everything tasted delicious. This is definitely a 5 star experience. Both my husband and I thoroughly enjoyed the evening and our hosts. We can highly recommend this class as one of the best activities to do while visiting Fez. We look forward to duplicating the dishes at home when we receive the recipes. Thank you for such a special evening.
Not a very technical cooking class, but great people and wonderful food! Enjoyed our time with Mohammed.
Fatima and Mohamed were very friendly and patient with us, we learnt a lot, cooking salad, tagine and couscous. We went to the market to buy produce first. The interior is beautiful and we could gomyp to the roof terrace for the view after our meal. The food was fantastic, we got a lot more than what we ourselves made with seven salads and cookies.
Class directed by Chef Fatima with participation by the restaurant maitre’d. Our visit included Fatima’s family who gave us a wonderful perspective on Moroccan cuisine and family meals. Fun, informative and delicious. Very nice class set up.
We first identified this cooking class through a highly positive and detailed review on a travel blog. The high expectations that were set were certainly met. Before and after signing up, the restaurant was highly responsive by email to respond to our questions and for clarifications. Upon arrival, Mohammed guided our party of 4 (including 2 college-age sons) through the souk to choose the proteins and introduce us to spices and starches. We returned to the cooking classroom to find additional ingredients and utensils, at stations for each one of us, already prepped for the next stage of our hands-on class. Together with chef Fatima, he provided and translated instructions in English, along with history, culture and styles of food preparation. The class was light, educational and fun. We relaxed on a few snacks as the recipes continued to cook and then we enjoyed the dinners we had prepared; more than enough for each person to eat and share. Best of all, we didn’t have to worry about cleaning up our food prep and dishes! A memorable hands-on experience!

Palais bab sahra is beautifully decorated and is amazing. As I was waiting for my time to shop in the market to buy ingredients for my cooking class, Saad escorted me to the terrace and offered mint tea and cookies. It was a beautiful afternoon with great views. And Saad was very friendly and welcoming. Then Mohamed came to meet me and we walked to the market to pick up meat, herbs, spices, and bread for my cooking class. He was very informative as we walk through the market. Fatima was my instructor and with the help of Mohamed to translate, she gave good directions, and was very patient with me. With her assistance, I fixed an amazing beef tagine, Moroccan tomato salad, and mint tea. I enjoyed mint tea and cookies as my meal finished cooking. I was then served bread, salad, olives, and the dishes I prepared for my dinner in their lovely restaurant. It was an experience that made my time in Fes very special and I highly recommend this for those who are interested in digging a little deeper in the Moroccan culture.
Amazing experience and great for our family and kids ages 7 and 10. Restaurant is easy to find with directions and signs from the blue gate. Mohammed and Fatima helped us cook Tajine and couscous after a trip to the market. The restaurant is absolutely beautiful. Highly recommend!
Love our cooking class and going to the market to buy the vegetables, they were so cheap! Fatima was brilliant and very patient especially when it came to cutting out the middle of the carrot, that's a new skill I'll take away. Food was delightful and sitting up on the terrace with views over Fes was awesome. Unfortunately we had to cut our time a little short as we had arranged our host from our accommodation to puck us up. But it was a fabulous experience, and the staff very warm kind and with good sense of humor.
We really enjoyed the whole experience from buying fresh produce in the market through learning Moroccan cooking skills from Fatima and her team in the perfect kitchen to dining on the roof at sunset. Would definitely recommend.
We had such a wonderful time in this cooking class and it was way beyond what we expected. The restaurant itself is stunningly beautiful. Mohammed first took us to the market to buy the food and then introduced us to the teacher, Fatima. He also sticks around to translate when needed which is very helpful. Fatima is a great teacher, including knife work! While the food was cooking, we had some fun with Fatima's son, Enes, who dressed us up in traditional Moroccan clothing and took some photos of us, he was lovely. Then we ate our dinner on the terrace, which has a stunning view of the city. We cannot speak highly enough of this experience, we are so glad we did it.
It became a private experience for my daughter and I and we enjoyed it. Fatima was great at helping my child peel and chop vegetables. My daughter had chicken tagine and I had beef tagine. This place is beautiful and we love the experience.
We did the 4 hour cooking class yesterday morning. It was brilliant! Really fun and informative. I'm a vegetarian, which wasn't a problem at all; I was guided in cooking a delicious vegetarian meal. One of the best things we did in fez. Highly recommend!
We have been to other cookery classes in fez , but this is certainly the most enjoyable experience yet. Top class facilities and surroundings. The restaurant is beautiful so arrive early and have a tour lst.
My daughter and I enjoyed a wonderful afternoon/evening with our cooking class led by Fatima and Mohammad. Mohammad led us thru the market in the Medina for some provisions and Fatima was a great, patient instructor. My daughter speaks Arabic which was helpful, but Fatima and I used demonstrative communication which worked perfectly. She was a delight.
My family and I had the best meal in Fez, I travel the world and I am fortunate to eat in the best restaurants. bab sahara restaurant They had varied dishes prepared with a unique blend of ingredients. The highlight was the carvings and decorations that fill the place and the service was first class. Hats off to their head waiter and the girl who greeted us. Nice restaurant based on local produce. I liked it very much and I hope to come back there again Greetings to the people of Bab Sahara Restaurant and thank them for everything 🙏🙏
I recommend for you,if you are interested in Moroccan cuisine ...the journey was unforgettable to me.
The guide was super nice, Zaccharia, but the course is too basic. We cooked only a few minutes of which to learn how to cut carrots and potatoes. Dinner was super good and the place is beautiful in a great palace with superb rooftop The cook did not speak French which limited exchanges and potential learning We were disappointed overall especially considering the price that wasn't worth it. We went to the market to choose carrots and potatoes... the idea was good but it was rather first level and we did not learn there.
Perfectly fine! Nice experience and the cook is very friendly. We used fresh produce and learned to make Moroccan tea in addition to the tagine.
Cancelled without reason or justification, really not pleasant. On the other hand always available but more expensive obviously.
Amazing ! An exceptional moment of sharing and conviviality A warm and family atmosphere in a superb location. I really recommend it, for me it’s a must and it’s what we liked best about our stay. We went with our two and a half year old daughter, she was able to participate and when she was a little fed up, she was able to play in the room where we were. We started the workshop with a trip to the market to buy the ingredients needed for the recipe that we were able to choose and then we returned to the palace and we all cooked together!
Great team and busy program followed by a memorable meal, the best tagine of our stay made to our taste and on the wise advice of the cook Fatima. I recommend without reservation.
Super fun cooking workshop. First we get the meat from the Souk and then we make our own tagines and salads. We ate our homemade food on the roof terrace. Because we had the workshop in January (low season) we had a private workshop, what a luxury! There was a beautiful view of the entire Medina from the roof terrace. I recommend this workshop.
We had a great time and learned traditional dishes, a highly recommended experience. Fatima taught us how to cut and prepare vegetables for the tagine and couscous, a very good experience.
I went with my wife and we had an amazing time. Staff attentive and attentive. I would not hesitate to return on my next trip.
A great time with a team listening. I had a great time learning how to cook a traditional dish. I highly recommend it.
Overall, it was a fabulous experience. Our local cooking teacher planned the experience well. She made sure everyone with all cooking abilities had fun from start to finish. She is very competent, witty and an excellent teacher. In the end, we had a very good lemon chicken tagine
If you only take one excursion, I would recommend this one. Great hosts, very informative and fun. With the bonus of sitting on the patio and eating your efforts afterwards. 10 out of 10
Rooftop cooking class with a fun element. Cut into pieces, all under the watchful eye of Masterchef fatima So much fun and so delicious Targine tastes. You can keep your apron and fez and share the meal you prepared later at the ground floor restaurant. It was a highlight of our tour in Morocco. Do it, you will remember this fantastic experience for a long time.
I brought my dad, who grew up in a restaurant, to this cooking class. While he was open to experimentation, he was not sure what to expect. To be concise, the cooking class exceeded our expectations. The staff was friendly and very helpful. The location was beautiful. Overall, it was the highlight of our two-week trip to Morocco. If you are in Fes, this is a must-see activity that will give you a delicious recipe to take home. Thank you to the cooking school of Fez for this wonderful memory.
Our group had an unforgettable time! Without a doubt, the affection they put into it throughout the cooking class is to be appreciated. Quality products, professional “teacher” with very good hand and especially a very nice restaurant with all the details.
It was a great day as the chef provided many tips and information about Moroccan cuisine. We prepare the food ourselves with the help of the chef, after that we dine in a wonderful Mood with desert music. I thank all the workers at Bab Sahara Restaurant
Fantastic class The cooking course was a highlight of our Moroccan tour. Soukaina and Osama were very friendly and the whole experience was well organized. The meal we prepared was fabulous. And the caterer for the vegetarians in our group. We highly recommend!
Nice restaurant in the city of Fes. I went to my husband to learn how to cook. We have learned many new things in the kitchen. I recommend the coking school class. Greetings to the staff of Bab Sahra restaurant.
