Day Trip To Volubilis - Moulay Idriss & Meknes From Fes

Our guide/ driver Soufiane was excellent.

This tour was a good opportunity to see some other sites near Fes. Our guide/drover, Najim, picked us up very close to our riad, picked up 5 other people and then tools us to the Roman ruins of Volubilis. There is more to see there than expected and we didn’t even see the interpretative center. There’s very little shade there so bring a hat and water. Then on to an overlook of Moulay Idriss- not that exciting really- and to Meknes where we had lunch. Plenty of time to wander around Meknes - nice architecture and hubbub in the medina and the mausoleum was interesting too. This tour was good value and I recommend doing it if you have more than a day or two it Fes.

Najim(driver) was very friendly and practiced Arabic for me. It was also fun to talk with other guests.

What a memorable trip! It definitely surpassed all our expectations. Meknes is absolutely stunning and we had a free 2-hour guide there which helped so much. Voulibilis ruins are also breathtaking to see. The only thing to have in mind is that the entrance fee is 100 dh, so bring cash. Our driver Said Arfoud was absolutely perfect! He made the ride super pleasant and even played our home-country music to make us feel at home. Definitely recommending this experience!

This was an excellent trip. Great driver with good English and keen to tell us information along the route. The local guide at Meknes was also excellent.

Important to know that for most of the trip, you get a driver, not a guide. While our driver did tell us a bit, their main job is to drive. Make sure that is what you are expecting! The time a Volubilis is quite short, given the extent of the site. 45 minutes is not enough to really see it all properly. There is also no real stop at Moulay Idriss (non-Muslims can't get into the city core, but that's not the whole city), so mostly it's a "nice view from above" and that's it. You get dropped off at the driver's choice of restaurant (of course). You don't have to go there, per se, but expect it. The food was excellent and the place nice, but a bit pricey. The guide was decent. I've had much better - and much worse. Just kind of average.

This is one very big day. So take water and comfortable shoes and clothes. Our pick up went smoothly as we headed to Volubilis . What a fabulous location. A movie crew was in the process of unloading tons of film equipment for a period movie. Please take coins for the bathroom attendant at the entrance. The old city is extremely photogenic. There are employees inside the old city there to answer questions, offer information and they know how to take great pictures. Please tip these folks. It’s worth it. Wife and I love learning about the history and our guides did not disappoint. The restaurant where we stopped for lunch was a 4.9 on Google review. We had a chicken and a fish tagine. Excellent. Order the 150 DH lunch with appetizers, main and dessert. Meknes has a rich history and our tour guide there spoke multiple languages. But after 8 hours we were wiped out. Thankfully we were the first ones dropped off and we headed to our hotel bar for some strong cocktails to take off the edge. Definitely worth every penny. By the way, we are about 70 yrs old.

It was a fun tour visiting Volubilis & Meknes. The guide and driver is really helpful in explaining everything, and very good use of time, there’s not a lot of shopping/ waiting time (compare with other tour we joined in Morocco). Just hope the we could have more time in Volubilis, feels like 1 hour is not enough to visit the whole park. And you may want to hire a tour guide on site to explain everything.

Enjoyed seeing the mosaics at Volubilis. They were better than expected. The local guide (Rashad) at Meknes was fantastic. The tour operators ‘3T’ were enthusiastic and responsive to queries. The tour was well timed though an earlier start might have been easier. The restaurant we stopped at had lovely food. Had the pastille- speciality of Meknes/ did not disappoint. Such a beautiful city.

Volubilis was definitely worth visiting but the whole tour could have been better organized. It took a while to collect all the group members, and my partner and I somehow had to change the bus later, no explanation given. The name of the organizer on the voucher and the name on the bus were not identical, so we were not sure if we were on the right bus. The driver was friendly but did not seem comfortable speaking English. The ride to Volubilis/Meknes was for us tortuous since we had to sit at the back of the van and at each curb and bump on the road we banged our heads against the back of the seats. The tour started around 9:30 am and ended almost 7 pm, took much longer than expected.

The trip was very well organised. The driver (Labhar) drove very carefully and safely and is fluent in English. The guide in Volubilis was very good, funny and informative. For Megnez it was good to have read something before. All in all it was a beautiful and interesting day.

A great trip with our very helpful and informative driver Driss! Started by stopping at a nice viewing point then going to the Roman ruins which were fascinating. Following that we stopped at a view of Moulay Idriss Driss then drove through the town to see the local souk. We then finished at Meknes which has a very interesting medina and amazing city walls. Would recommend if you’re looking for a day trip from Fes.

It was advertised as a 6 hours excursion and it end up like 10 hours . In the morning we wasted 1h hour, from 1 bus to another. Very long and tiring

We had a wonderful day trip with Labhar as our driver. He was a very safe driver and he scheduled our day so that we had lunch during the hottest part of the day because I don’t do well in the heat. He also set us up with great guides at each site.

The tour with Labhar went very well, Labhar was very kind and calm, he drove well and gave us good information, he also took good photos of us.

Great tour, Meknes is a lot less crowded than Fes and still very cool. Definitely bring some extra cash for souveniers! Rashid and Mohamed were great.

The trip was very well organised. I was contacted on WhatsApp several days before the tour and they take care of every detail to make sure that the trip went on smoothly. Both the driver and the guide are professional. Our guide Radwane told us some interesting stories at each sites and also offered us lots of help. The two sites are both interesting and I only wish I could have spent more time in Volubilis.

Volubilis is extremely interesting and much larger than expected. It is situated in a lovely valley of olive groves that I suspect the Romans first brought here. The guide/company gave one hour for this and the site cannot be seen without at least 2 hours. The rush was to get to Meknes (MEH !!!). for 3 hours ! there is nothing to see there as everything is closed for renovation except the Mausoleum which has limited opening (3pm). Other than that the Medina is unattractive full of cars and fumes, no restaurants or anywhere for toilets. It is a working agricultural and factory town, It's a complete sightseeing bust. Dont bother - however the Mausoleum is a beautiful building with tile work that you see everywhere in Morocco. There are palace walls andCity walls that you can see better in Fez. Volubilis is absolutely worth a visit - make your own private tour and skip Meknes. Get a good guide.

Very enjoyable experience. Our driver Hassan was great and knowledge, stopping at the best view points. Also the guide in Meknes, Rashid, did an amazing job giving a very thorough and authentic tour.

Baha and the other Driver were extremely funny. the guide in meknes brought us inside the medina and his explanation of monuments was impeccable.

Mohammed and Omar were amazing! They took us through Volubilis and the ancient Roman remains, Moulay Idriss and finally Meknes! In the last step we ate very well and the local guide was perfect! One of the best trips in my entire life. the car was clean and the best part was Mohammed the driver who make the vibe of the trip funniest first we went to volubiliis and then Meknès the place we stop for lunch to complete the tour the restaurant was incredible food service everything. Was a good day from A to Z that why I recommend it it worth

Fantastic and friendly driver as well as an extremely knowledgeable guide. If your goal is to learn about the culture and history of Morocco, eat good food, and laugh along the way, then this is the tour to go on.

Could not fault the experience on any level, pick up on time and perfect, small group of 5 , lovely people, Tour guide at both locations were friendly and informative, we were taken for lunch which was good value and the return journey was swift!

Amazing experience full of history and culture our guide driver Hachem he was amazing and he informed us and explained about his culture and traditions of his life in desert and also about the high light of Meknès

Hassan is such a great young guy. He was so helpful, polite and a great driver. His English and French was very good so made it so much easier. I didn’t expect the Fes country side to be so green and beautiful with many gems

This was a nice experience and great value for the price. Our driver Mustapha told us some fun facts about the region as we were driving. He was flexible about the plan which we modified a bit because of the rain. He even lent me his jacket since mine got soaked. Altogether it was a really good day!

Our decision to go was very last minute but the agency was very accommodating and helpful with clear, easy and fast communication. They even brought us to the train station in Meknes instead of bringing us to Fes so we could continue our journey. Even when the van broke down on the way in, help was immediately on the way and we never felt behind schedule or rushed on time. Would definitely recommend.

My recent tour to Meknes, Volubilis, Moulay Idriss, and Zerhoun was fantastic. The historical sites were impressive, and the team was informative and friendly. They patiently answered all our questions, making the experience even better. Highly recommended!
