Day Tour To Volubilis & Meknes From Fes With Local Guide

A good day trip from Fes. You leave just after 9 with a guide in the car. Bit of a drive to Volubilis where you’ll have an hour and a half to look around. There wasn’t a guide there but it’s self explanatory. Then on to Meknes via Moulay Idriss. There’s a guide in Meknes too. Was hoping to do some shopping but you get a good tour of the old city.

Driver and guide in Meknes were nice and informative, but Meknes portion was not as described. We did not to go the stables, attics, or Stud.

Great tour of the Roman ruins in Volubilis and other stops in Meknes. Took a tour of the mosque and palace in Meknes which was well worth the cost. Great value for this tour.

I would say this tour was mostly just organised transport with a guide in Meknes. No guide in Volubilis and we were told “there’s enough information there” except most of the signs have been ripped off so a guide was pretty essential. Meknes tour was good in parts but we also spent far too long going through the cheap tat (knock offs) souks rather than seeing anything interesting. Saw the mausoleum and the famous gate with a very brief visit to the spice/sweets souk and an interesting artisinal craft area, and the mausoleum was beautiful. None of the advertised optional extra monuments were actually offered as an option. On balance, disappointing. Food was surprisingly excellent. And if you ask for a la carte they will give you it rather than tje fixed menu.

The van ride was comfortable and our driver did a great job making good time between stops. We had plenty of time at Volubilis to wander and take photos. There was no guide to provide information, but it was still very enjoyable. The lunch stop was very tasty and they gave us a lot of food. I had the mixed grill and it was fantastic. There was a local guide for the Meknes portion of the tour. Our guide, Rasheed, was great. He spoke at least four languages and was very funny. Overall, we saw quite a bit and had a great time. We left Fez around 9:30 am and were back at about 7:00 pm.

The tour was as advertised and we were very happy with our guide Hassan. There was plenty of time allocated to explore Volubilis, and the walking tour of Meknes was excellent. A very enjoyable day.

The ruins were very interesting. It might have been interesting to have a guide but I tagged along with another group. Meknez was more open and monuments more impressive. Our guide there was great.

The trip provided us with an interesting and varied day out in beautiful countryside, fascinating Roman ruins, a restaurant with a view, and an excellent guided tour of the medina and mausoleum in Meknes.

Highly recommended excursion to visit Volubilis which is fab to just wonder round - we had about 1 hour which is about right. The minibus was vert clean with seatbelts. Both the driver and guide could speak good English and were fun to be around. The driver also drove sensibily . In Meknes we had a dedicated guide called Rahid who was very knowledgeable and paced the city tour well. Great day trip from Fez - thank you

This was a nice day tour of Volubilis and Meknes. I had requested tour in French (though I am American) and was reassured that it would be in French by tour operator but ended up getting paired with another solo traveler from Italy who didn’t speak French so tour ended up being in English. Besides that bit I actually enjoyed the tour very much. There were couple of short scenic pit stops. Volubulis was interesting to explore - the entrance fee 100 dirhams was extra and you can negotiate for local guide there but we opted to just go on our own. There was a local guide included in Meknes, Rashid, and he was informative. Our driver, Hassan, was a competent driver and very punctual for pick up.

I readily recommend the daylong excursion to Volubilis and Meknes. The ruins of Volubilis impressed and were more extensive than anticipated, making us rush back to get to the van in time. A disappointment was that many of signs describing the ruins were worn or unreadable, but it does look like the state is working to improve that. Meknes was a pleasant surprise of a city, and having a guide navigate the medina and point out the history was exactly what we were looking for. Compared to Fez, the markets seemed open and friendly. The architecture and history of the mausoleum was a highlight. Zaki was our frinedly driver and we truly appreciated his clear communication about the pick up point and other exchanges. The only reason this is not 5 stars was due to a problem with one or co-travelers getting lost from the group in Menkes. The guide assumed she had a working phone and was slow to go back and find her. (She was found without too much stress and all was well)

Interesting Day tour to Volubilis n Meknes. We had abt 1 hr+ spent at Volunbilis. The Roman ruins is quite well maintained n impressive. Then we had abt 3 hrs for lunch n Meknes. We explored the mausoleum, the Medina, royal garden, n the square. Seem a bit rush to hv to finish all these interesting places in just abt 2 hrs after one hour of lunch. Our driver n guide from Fes was professional n helpful. However, the local guide for Meknes was very knowledgeable albeit a bit rush in the tour. What is more: at the end of the tour, a few of our tourists went off to do their own things. The rest of our group just stood there n waited for them for about 20 min before we all walked back together to the car. I believe the local guide could manage this situation a bit better next time?! All in all, I do recommend this day tour from Fes.

Wonderful trip! Hassan, driver cum guide, was so caring and helping that everyone felt comfortable. I was impressed by his safety driving, which is very important to me.

Great day thanks to our guide Zaki who managed the multilingual group beautifully, uniting us with his thoughtfulness and humour and riding over adversities including rain, sick passengers and very slow restaurant service. We are architects with prior knowledge of Volubilis and Meknes so chose an unguided tour however Zaki’s knowledge and humour were very engaging and made our trip fun and mémorable.

Overall a great experience - Hassan and Abde did an amzing job at bringing us to the different sites to take pictures and explore both Volubilis and Meknès; in my case, I opted for the guided tours - the guide in Meknès was fantastic, the one in Volubilis okay. The lunch at the restaurant recommended by Abde was quite touristic but service was excellent and the food delicious. Thank you both Hassan and Abde for the great day!

My booking includes the guide service, all the guides reminded us that we should give tips which does not feel good. And the guide didn’t tell us the time for meeting up before our lunch, but blame us for late which is very impolite. The city is small for explore, but hard to communicate in any foreign languages even the tour guide does not speak good English and Spanish as well.

Fantastic drive to ancient Roman ruins and the old city of Meknes. Definitely recommend. Make sure to take extra money for entry into the sites and food as they are separate.

Easy communication and very helpful when arranging the trip with this company, our driver was nice as well, no issues. However, AC for our vehicle wasn’t working properly which made the trip not much fun since Fes is pretty hot.

We had a wonderful day trip to Meknes! Even though we had a small problem with the first bus, the company handled everything very professionally and quickly changed the car for us. They even offered us a coffee included in the tour as a nice gesture. The service was excellent, the people were friendly, and the whole experience was very enjoyable. Awesome day with Mustafa and our little gang of 4 The AC saved our lives, the guides made history sound like Netflix drama, and Mustafa kept us cool (literally , thanks for the water!). Moulay Idriss was peaceful, lunch had a view, and we left full of couscous and culture. 10/10 would ride again!

The all trip worth the money. Excellent driver safe and right on time at any stops. Cleaned car and no problem on air conditioning. We were 4 people and did it a very nice trip Volubilis is a must and the guide in MEKNES was super clear and drove us thought differen area of the Medina and museum of Music.

The day trip started with our driver Issam waited for us. He was punctual. He speaks perfect English, explaining sites as he drove along. He was attentive to my husband, as he needs to walk with a cane. We had a very enjoyable time. Highly recommended.

Everything was perfectly organized and flawlessly executed. Our driver Zakaria was exceptional, friendly, professional, and incredibly supportive throughout the journey, I especially appreciated his honesty and kindness, due to a misunderstanding on my part, I offered to pay an extra fee, which he kindly declined. Driss was a Great driver and we loved the Romain ruins. Not at all the fault of the tour, just be aware that if you go to Meknes on a Friday everything in the Medina will be closed. But, the free musiliam and Dar Jame museum were both fabulous. The ruins at Volubilis were the highlight though and we were given enough time to explore them. Thanks.

Fascinating trip to Volubilis with a v knowledgeable local guide Yunnis. We picked the wrong day for Meknes (Friday) but the local guide Omar (not Sharif) aka Papa did a wonderful job

Beautiful landscape, great driver, guide in Volubilis a bit difficult to understand, guide in Meknes wonderful. Restaurant stop in Meknes reasonable but some food spicier than standard Marrocan cuisine.

Hassan was a safe driver & Hassan was a fantastic guide. He spoke many languages and made sure everyone heard the important points. I highly recommend him! The guides at Volubilis and Meknès were also very good! I’ve traveled all over the world but these were some of the best guides. My only complaint is that the AC in the van did not work.

Our driver mustafa picked us up from our riad in Fes and dropped us near our riad in Meknes. The car was very comfortable and the whole experience was smooth and enjoyable. We loved this short adventure!
