Itinerary
Day 1
1
Your journey through the Middle Atlas mountains and the Sahara desert sounds like an incredible adventure. Here's a breakdown of your itinerary: 7:30 AM - Pick up from hotel/Riad: Your journey begins early in the morning as you're picked up from your accommodation.
Your first stop is the charming town of Ifrane, often referred to as "Morocco's Switzerland" due to its Alpine chalet-style architecture. It was built by the French in the 1930s. Cedar Forests: You'll continue your journey, passing through cedar forests in the Middle Atlas mountains. This region is known for its natural beauty and rich flora. Atlas Mountains: As you continue your drive, you'll wind your way through the Atlas Mountains, with their forested peaks, mountain streams, and spectacular rock formations that seem to hold up the sky.
Lunch Break: Around midday, you'll reach Midelt, where you'll have a break for lunch. This town is an important stop on your journey. Rissani: After lunch, you'll head south towards Rissani, which marks the edge of the Sahara desert. This town is culturally significant and offers a glimpse into the transition from the mountains to the desert.
Erg Chebbi Sand Dunes: Continuing your journey south, you'll be amazed by the sudden appearance of the massive Erg Chebbi sand dunes. These dunes can reach heights of up to 50 meters and stretch into the Algerian Sahara. Camel Trekking: Your adventure takes an exciting turn as you embark on a camel trek into the desert. This experience will lead you through the shifting sands and towards a traditional Berber desert encampment. Sunset: You'll have the opportunity to witness a breathtaking desert sunset as you ride your camel through the dunes. The changing colors of the sky and the sands create a magical atmosphere. Berber Desert Encampment: You'll arrive at a traditional Berber desert encampment where you'll spend the night in a charming tent surrounded by the towering dunes. This is a unique and authentic desert experience. Dinner and Entertainment: As night falls, you can relax and enjoy a delicious dinner while listening to the sweet strains of traditional Berber music.

Experience alone very safe country for women
Mustafa was our driver guide from Merzouga Dunes going to Fes. He was very courteous and got precisely to the place we needed.
Incredible experience, even in the insane summer heat
Very fun tour! Mustafa drove us back to Fez and he was a great driver and guide, he is also very kind and considerate of the passengers! Awesome experience in the desert as well! Although it was windy and cloudy when we went, it was still a great and unique experience.
This tour offers a Sahara desert experience that is quite different from the classic sand-dune trek near Merzouga. Having taken both tours — from Marrakech to Merzouga to Fes, as well as this return trip to Marrakech — we were able to make meaningful comparisons. The camel trek through the golden sand dunes near Merzouga provides a broader and more immersive experience in a truly “pure” sand sea, with vast, towering dunes stretching in every direction. By contrast, this tour features shorter camel rides over shallower dunes. However, it compensates by allowing much more time to experience the Sahara itself — sitting quietly atop a dune to watch the sunset and walking freely through the desert landscape. Note that walking in shallow sands is more more manageable! One highlight for us was a two-hour early-morning trek across the desert, culminating in a breathtaking sunrise — absolutely priceless. Evenings felt more intimate as well, with small-group gatherings around Berber drums and dancing by the campfire under a twinkling desert night sky. The main drawback is the return journey to Marrakech, which was neither comfortable nor “luxury,” as the minibus was quite cramped.
Fantastic catching up many things. And guide too good. Who guided all times though the language was not fluent. Suggest English courses and write ups be given.
It was ao good. Mustafa did a good job driving us to the camp and back. Very friendly and caring. He stopped at good restaurants.
Mustafa was the best! Communication was easy and helpful. Good price for what we got. Beautiful accomodation. Hope to repeat again in the nearest future with friends
Had a great experience, Mustafa was my driver and he went above and beyond giving us all a great experience. Would recommend.
Really nice experience!! The night in the desert was incredible! We really enjoyed also the tour in camel to go to the desert camp where we spent the night.
Overall VERY disappointing! 1) CON : To Merzouga from FES : Our driver did not speak English and there was very minimal communication. We did not when we would stop for bathroom breaks or for breakfast or lunch. According to the itinerary we were supposed to stop at Midelt for Lunch but he stopped very late for lunch after Midelt. He had the window open in spite of telling him many times we had dust allergy. 2) CON :The vehicle itself was not comfortable. Tall people were cramped and completely miserable on a 7 hour journey. 3) CON :Once we reached Merzouga – it was total chaos. They just asked us to get into another vehicle(which was indicated in the itinerary). But what was not told is that we would have to sit in the back of a pick up along with baggage. We were just carted like sheep and taken to the camel riders. Thankfully it was a short ride. 4) PROS : Camel ride and sunset was a beautiful experience. 5) CON : After the camel ride we were brought to the camp area, Surprise! We had booked Luxury camp but were provided Standard accommodation! The reservation they had, indicated Standard accommodation and we had to show our booking which was Luxury. Some more chaos and we were shifted to our luxury tents. Thanks to Yousuf. 6) PROS : The luxury tent was very nice. Had hot water shower as well. Although I had repeatedly asked if heater would be provided, there was no heater, but there was good blankets and our night although very cold was not too bad. December 27th (39F) 7) PROS : Lovely surise followed by a nice breakfast ! 8) CONS : Our ride back to Marrakech was a nightmare. The driver drove dangerously in the hair pin bends. I lost count of how many mountains we crossed. We felt lucky not to have met with any accident. The driver although had good control with mountain driving, we did not feel safe. Finally he did not drop us off at our hotel as promised. We insisted and he finally arranged for a taxi from the city center to the resort we were staying in.
Mustafá was a very good driver and he show us lot of things during the drive!! He also ask everyone whenever to stop for a quick toilet and so on. We really enjoy it
Such an amazing trip, everyone was very well organized, our tour guide was Omar and was amazing. The food in the Sahara desert was delicious and all the places we stopped on the way were good and not do expensive. A 100% recommended expierence.
We had a fenomenal couple of days, Mohamed our guide was fantastic, he made us feel so special, we learnt so much from him, and he made the trip so engaging and fun! We had a lovely and once in a lifetime as a family experience and we would recommend this trip to anyone. Ask to ride with Mohamed, he is the best, Shukran Mohamed!
Had an amazing trip. Everything was as described. Driver was on time and very friendly and stayed in contact with me before the trip. A great price for a lovely experience.
Very fun stop with a great driver. We felt safe and he was very interactive with the group. The monkey stop was a highlight
Amazing experience, good hotel, and nice guide. Meet nice people. Amazing amazing amazing. Recommend go to Sahara Desert. Remember bringing more water.
I took the desert tour and it was amazingly beautiful. Mustafa was so much fun and made the whole experience easy. I recommend this tour company for a great experience. Ask for Mustafa and you will have a good time!
Everything was wonderful and perfect, Mustafa was very kind and good, the tour process was pleasant and even though it was many hours, we didn't notice it
A very kind and attentive guy. Good driver. I would do it again without a doubt!
Perfect!!!!! Great trip, nothing to complain about
After a day trip to the desert, our journey to Fes was quite enjoyable, comfortable, and very pleasant thanks to our helpful driver, Mustafa. Thanks to Mustafa.
The desert tour is a must-do! It is very beautiful, and the people there are very nice! They should improve the information they provide and the organization because especially on the return (we were changing and I was going to Marrakech instead of returning to Fes) they left us in the middle of the street and kept telling us that the driver would arrive. Fortunately, the people on site are very friendly and kind, and they waited for us and were interested in understanding who the driver was; otherwise, we would have been abandoned because no one had given us the number of the new driver, and the number that was provided at the time of booking was not answering.
Pleasant treatment from Omar, the best driver to the desert.
A covert tour scam, is just a transfer in a mini bus, NO AIR!!! we were overcrowded, unable to recline the seats, dirty and in bad shape, 12 hs so. NO GUIDE! another lie, said, in the contract, guide in Spanish, there was only one driver, who spoke French, in the first leg, only spoke to the two Frenchwomen in front, on the return we were 17!!! Crowded, the driver spoke more than 20 times on his cell phone, while driving up the mountain, the music at full volume, he didn't even let rest, the seats, they didn't recline!! We stopped to go to the bathroom, and instead of being 10 minutes, the driver would arrive half an hour later, it took 12 hours to reach Marrakech, undone. The best, attention in the desert,by the staff, the shops,They are not luxury,as they said when hiring the transfer,THIS IS NOT A TOUR!!,the tent, simple, with private bathroom, the experience itself,is very cute, dinner and breakfast ,very good. I filed two claims, and never from @viator, they contacted me, once you pay, nor bother to contact you, I will be in charge of reporting on networks, about VIATOR's position, as a hiring agent, do not comply with the written.
Nice scenery. Comfort in the camp. Good gastronomy Camel ride an experience Views from the dunes
Moahmed great guide made us make a lot of stops on the way, we even saw monkeys, recommended
El conductor mufasa fue fenial, muy puntual y me recuperó unas gafas que había perdido el día anterior en un restaurante! Gracias Mufasa por hacer de este un viaje inolvidable 🥳🥳
The best driver of all, explained many things, took us to eat at a local place that was very good and gave us carrots for monkeys, plus he drives very well and is very friendly. Mustafa
The first day went well. On the second day, there was no contact and he didn't come to pick me up. There was no response to the chat. I took another tour bus to Marrakech. I'd like you to at least get in touch with me via chat. I don't have the phone number of the tour company.
The experience has been fantastic. Our driver Omar and Hamid (both journeys) not only drove very well but also at the 5 stopping points explained to us what each site/town was about making the journey bearable despite the 8-9 hour journey. Arriving at Desert Camp Mohamed everything worked perfect from the beginning when we were placed in our beautifully decorated Luxury tent with double bed, air conditioning, shower and bathroom inside the room itself and even a small vanity and two interior chairs until when we left. For food there were 2 restaurants and in our case we ate with tourists from the normal shops but the food was very good. Apparently the luxury restaurant was hired separately the menu but we did not miss anything. After dinner there were some lively beri beri drums and some even danced. We also had a camel ride 🐫 with Mohamed a very cheerful nomad from the region who explained typical things. Many of the people who attended us (chauffeurs, waiters, etc.) spoke several languages including Spanish. As a final tip I recommend you bring medicine for gastroenteritis because even if you drink bottled water, the chance of having stomach pains is very high.
All very nice! Mustafa very friendly and the places of the tour are worth visiting as you see Morocco inside
Long way, but wonderful and highly recommended excursion into the desert - with really luxurious "tents", as even a "real" toilet is built in (as well as shower and faucet), which I did not expect. It was even warmer inside at the beginning than in the hostels before, and even when it gets cold at night, the bed and blankets are such that you definitely don't have to freeze. You are in this dwelling either in pairs (as a couple) or alone (in my case). Everything is organized top (if you know where you will be picked up, because the info unfortunately did not come by itself and had to be re-telephoned), but all top friendly, with young people who provided the musical background in the evening by the campfire, while you can still admire the stargazing. Went back to Fez in my case, but actually recommend traveling in one direction, so continue!!
Everything perfect, Mustafa is the best guide we have had in Morocco and very good person has been a pleasure to travel with him.
Great beautiful drive to the Sahara! Mustafa, our driver knew exactly where to stop to see all the beauty. And he had a lot of information along the way and gave answers to all our questions. Cozy music and wifi on the bus and nice lunch spots on the way there and back. You spend two days in different worlds. Highly recommended to travel with this provider!
A long drive, but it was worth it! Moustafa was a nice and friendly guide. The camp is where you stay is more than luxurious and the traditional food was super tasty.
Very nice experience, beautiful, everything was really great, the driver Mustapha drove us sharing his knowledge of the region and his good humor he loves his country and it is felt, a very warm welcome from Berbers of the bivouac, Choukrane 👍
Mustafa a very good Guide and driver. Very friendly and friendly! Inform at all times of the route and worry / answer all your questions. Highly recommended!
Amazing road trip that I highly recommend, amazing team listening and caring. The incredible atmosphere transports him to the top with stops to see the monkeys, the city of Ifrane, the beautiful oasis, the air conditioning all along the way, the super nice drivers!!
Our driver Omar Oubana was very friendly, dedicated and full of good advice. We loved it! We recommend it to everyone.
Mustafah was the best driver by far. Although in general they are all quite attentive. Good overall experience. With the first driver we had problems with the air conditioning, but we were able to solve it.
Fantastic experience in the desert, thanks to the camp leader, "o mest" Mohammed for being kind and organizing everything down to the smallest detail! Stunning tents, phenomenal typical food! Thanks for everything 🍷
Fantastic desert experience, thanks to our guide Mohamed for being kind and organizing everything down to the smallest detail! 😍😍
Pleasant driver, smiling, attentive, very easy exchange. During the ride he shows you some views and monuments. He is really into sharing. Very professional. I recommend 100%. Thanks Nawfal.
It was the best memory of my life! We got in the car from the Blue Gate of Fes and had a very comfortable transfer to the Merzouga Desert, stopping at various spots along the way. The scenery was so beautiful that the 8-hour drive felt like an instant. It was like coming to another world. Our driver, Omar Oubana, always entertained us and explained each spot in detail. After arriving in the desert, we met up with the Berbers of Merzouga and rode camels to watch the sunset. The Berbers took many great photos on the way, and it became the best memory. The tents we stayed in were also beautiful. There was hot water in both the showers and the taps. It gets cold at night, so I think it would be more comfortable if you brought warm clothes. We had traditional Moroccan food for both dinner and breakfast, which was delicious. From the beginning to the end of the trip, everything was fulfilling and made for a good memory.
