We had a wonderful time on this kayaking and hiking trip! Kayaking on the steppes was a great change of pace from the glaciars and mountainous hiking in the area. The kayaking itself was very fun and beautiful in the glacial water. Our hike was cut a bit short because of rain the prior night rendering some paths too muddy to pass, but it was still super fun with lots of unique natural formations. Freddy was an excellent guide and we would definitely recommend this tour to others considering it.

Great experience. Beautiful setting. The guides provided everything we might possibly need for the kayaking part, wet suits and shoes, dry bag etc. The hike part was stunning as well and we were shown petrified bones and trees. We were the only people in the area. The guides were supper attentive and knowledgable. Would highly recommend this trip!
A fantastic experience. This was suggested for our trip for El Catafate to El Chalten, a brilliant suggestion which made a journey into an unforgettable experience. Granted we were lucky with the weather, but the KSC team had all the controllables sorted. Good equipment and the most amazing scenic route, but most importantly friendly staff who made every effort to cater for different levels of experience, always with a smile and exuding confidence (my wife was very nervous, unnecessarily). The walk and their knowledge was the icing on the cake, with the most spectacular lunch spot.
Wonderful day. They have ton of equipment for the kayak that keeps you dry during the ride. The kayak ride itself was also easy, fun, and beautiful. The hike was also super interesting - lots of fossils, bones, and great views. It’s a different view of calafate that you can’t get elsewhere. Definitely recommend.
Great tour with wonderful guide for both the kayaking and the hiking and guide knew much about geology as well, showing dinosaur remains
Eduardo is a fantastic guide with an extensive knowledge of the geography and wildlife of the area. He shared so many interesting pieces of knowledge that made the trip even more enjoyable. The journey in the minibus was comfortable and never felt rushed, stopping at places where wildlife was visible. The equipment provided for the kayaking was of good quality and we felt safe and prepared before entering the river. Kayaking down the La Leóna river was a wonderful experience, as was the hike to the petrified forest. Overall, this was an amazing experience made even better by the guide and his team. We highly recommend!
Guide was very knowledgeable & personable. Combination of kayaking & hiking worked well. We learned about geology & paleontology!
it was a great experience that included 10km of kayaking followed by 2.5 hours of hiking, followed by 4km of kayaking. The second kayaking part was in a bit rough water. Overall, easy and different from the 'standard' activities. Eduardo and his team were amazing, knowledgeable and helpful. We enjoyed the entire experience and would surely recommend it.
Great day out on the river with some fun and easy rapids. We saw lots of wildlife - guanaco, rhea, condor and some dinosaur bones. The guides are very helpful and knowledgable for the kayaking and about the landscape of Patagonia. Something different from the glaciers.
Eduardo and his crew was awesome!!!!! Everything was perfectly planned, down to the last detail (including a zip file of photos taken of us sent at the end of the day). Just book this and prepare for one of the best experiences of your trip in Patagonia. Easily earned it's 5-star review rating here.
Depending on the wind, quite a workout even with kayaking experience - made all the more enjoyable by the excellent and knowledgeable guides. Very fun mini-rapids on the enchanting La Leona river, in a rare and very hard to beat combination with a light hike through epic fossil hills. As a paleontology nerd and avid fossil hunter it was incredible to visit some of these important find sites. Picnic lunch overlooking the river only made us love this tour more. Off the beaten track, great combo of different landscapes to experience, and a perfectly small little group when we went. Would absolutely do again or even go for a longer kayak tour, and highly recommend!
Perfect activity in El Calafate. The kayak on a river is a good experience with a lot of fun. The trekking gives an exited view of landscape.
What an excellent day. A small group of 10 and the peacefulness of paddling down La Leona river before a walk up into the hills above the glacial valley and a final paddle. The trip does involve a certain amount of fitness as the walk is a steep climb but still excellent
This was an awesome trip - the guides were fantastic and oozed confidence which helped those us who were a little nervous! They were also very knowledgeable and passionate about the area, full of fun and interesting info. This area is less touristy so we had the place to ourselves and felt as though we were on a different planet. We all loved it!
This was a wonderful day. Tour was well organized and staff were kind and helpful. Really fun day of kayaking, but the truly best part for me was the Petrified Forest! Saw so many interesting petrified and fossilized things and many wonderful views!
After a tranquil kayak downriver we stopped to hike in a private reserve with fossilized trees and dinosaur bones just there waiting to be discovered. The silence was amazing and the terrain incredible. The team had great energy and knowledge of the area and we wish them every success. A great day trip and truly a unique experience.
Really awesome tour. Freddy and Sebastian went above and beyond. The kayak and gear they provided was awesome, the ride was a good distance and the hike was great. Freddy was super knowledgeable and taught me so so much about the area.
Great day kayaking and walking in amazing scenery both on and off the water. Team did a fantastic job.
Fabulous guides. Really informative and do everything to make you comfortable and enjoy the experience. Scenery fabulous and beautiful day to be able to enjoy the river taking you down river. Loved the kayaking and walk.
Great day trip if you’re looking for something different Pick up went well friendly staff great information about the area and on the walking path you can get a little damp but not too bad Can get a little breezy Highly recommend
Great experience, it was just my friend and me and the guide which made it really relaxing. Guide knew a lot of info as about environment, plants, history in the region and so on.. kayaking is quite simple and easy but we made 2 stops on the way for a hike which stretched the day. Recommend doing it when its sunny ofcourse! Only comment is its quite expensive but hey thats Argentina for you these days.
Great experience in all of its parts! Besides the kayak experience which is by itself worth the cost, the guides are super prepared with all sorts of facts and information about the area’s flora, fauna, history and tradition. The hike in between is an open air museum visit and has been such a pleasant surprise. The staff is amazing and super friendly, can definitely recommend! Also pick up and drop off service at your place/hostel works smoothly. Thanks Eduardo, Sebastian y Martin!
This was a terrific a little off the path tour. The kayaking was not hard. The trek was visually stunning. Altogether a great traveling day. Dont miss this if have the time. The guides were fantastic.
No bathroom stops, before/during/after your. You pee in nature. Very unsafe hike on private property. The lowlight of my pantagonia travels.
Amazing experience with awesome guides! Would highly recommend. The tour consists of kayaking down the La Leona River, then hiking in the Petrified forest where you see dinosaur fossils, and then you continue to kayak after the short hike. The guides couldn't have been nicer. We go treated to Mate Tea and Alfajores after the hike. Definitely a worthy experience!
This is a brilliant day, certainly one of the highlights of our Patagonia trip! Eduardo and his team are all very knowledgeable and helpful. The kayaking on a milky blue river was amazing. (They have all the kit you need). Eduardo is clearly passionate about the geology of the area and was brilliant with explanations of different features along the trek, particularly petrified trees and dinosaur fossils! The snacks and cold beer were a lovely touch, and also the photos. Don't hesitate, book it!
Took this trip today, a very relaxed and easy going operation. Punctual pick up. No shortage of information and explanation around what we were experiencing. A safe well organised trip. Well recommended.
Amazing tour. Genuinely friendly and nice people. They took care of everything, brought many little comfort-things to the tour that we would never have thought off, and showed us SO MANY impressive things on the hike in the middle of the kayak tour. Whatever you book here - you will not go wrong. Absolutely worth the price.
Overall a fantastic activity! Frederico and his team were brilliant from start to finish. So informative and made sure everyone had a superb time, they made a real effort to have fun and for us the best kayaking activity we have ever done! A perfect activity for novices or those with more experience. Thanks again - Jack and Laura
We went on this tour a few weeks ago and it was the BEST. Eduardo and Nadia were so kind and really made sure we enjoyed the experience. The morning starts with getting picked up and a drive of about an hour to hour and a half. You then get off and get ready to kayak for about an hour - it was so much fun!! The views are STUNNING and La Leona river is pretty calm. You then break to go on a hike for about an hour and a half - the area is very hilly, having been formed through various geological eras where sea tides changed. It almost feels like you’re on the moon, and you get to see real dinosaur fossils! After lunch (which you must bring - if you’re at a hotel in El Calafate many will have an option to preorder a boxed lunch), you get back in the kayak for a little under an hour and then get back in the truck to head back. We left around 0715 and were back around 1600, so it’s a full day activity. I cannot say enough good things about the tour - the guides were super knowledgeable and made us feel comfortable on the kayak, and they were so kind. Highly recommend this trip. We did the glacier too and this was the perfect activity to get a different experience in Patagonia!
A very special excursion to see fossils and petrified woods, the guides were very caring and informative, it was easy to handle the kayaking and the hiking was great!
It was a privilege to be able to walk in the prehistoric hills as part of this tour, seeing petrified trees and fossilised dinosaur bones. Something I will never forget. The kayaking was fun. A bit cold on an Oct morning, but so worth it. Eduardo and Isabella were brilliant guides and we learnt so much. Highly recommend
Absolutely fantastic day! We were a small group of 4 which made it feel like a very intimate, personal trip. Our guides, Eduardo, Nadia and Sebastian were so knowledgeable and informative. We learnt a lot about the history of the area, the geology of the landscape and about the local wildlife. The kayaking was good fun and it was incredible to take in the landscape from the river. The hike was fascinating - a landscape like nothing we've ever seen before, and we were amazed to see petrified trees and dinosaur fossils. An all round exceptional day out! Highly recommend this company and this trip! Thank you Eduardo, Nadia and Sebastian!
The day was great! The guides were wonderful and very informative. Kayaking and hiking was the perfect mix of activity. It was very fun and entertaining with lots of information mixed in. Pack an entire change of clothes though!
What a great day kayaking the river, hiking such interesting geology then kayaking again. Our guides were so friendly, knowledgeable and skilled, I felt very safe and enjoyed the whole experience. Advice: was very windy - bring a neck gaiter to hold on to your hat and expect to get wet.
Amazing day! We enjoyed the beautiful landscape up close with fantastic guides. It is a bit challenging, but manageable with a little effort, definitely worth it, and the guides are attentive to your needs. They will help you if you need it. They gave us full wet suits and shoes, so no worries about bringing the right gear. We loved it and definitely recommend!
Incredible day out. The team are great, very knowledgeable very good guides spoke in english and Spanish. Really passionate about patagonia and showing you things you might not see on a standard tour. No kayaking experience necessary. Very safe and very enjoyable. Cannot recommend this trip enough if you are in El Calafate.
We were looking for a day long excursion on the more active side and this was PERFECT! The kayaking is spectacular, and while easy, it is definitely more engaged than paddling on a lake or walking along a boardwalk so we loved it. And the hike is beautiful and enriching as you learn about the geology of the area. The trip was perfectly managed and the guides were great. In addition to the paddling and hiking, the guides also provided lots of information about the area while driving to and from the river. Highly recommended.
Very well organised. I particularly like the mix of activities, kayaking, trekking and a little geology and natural history The wind made the return trek a bit challenging, but the guys managed people’s anxieties well.
Rarely do you get to experience Patagonia this way. You and the rest of the small group are the only humans around the river and during the hike. If you are lucky, you will even see Andean Condors and Guanacos. The kayaking on the Leona River was a lot of fun, and the hike was incredible. During the hike, you are surrounded by fossils in an environment that could easily be the Disneyland of geology. This is not an easy and "comfortable" tour. You must paddle for 12 km in freezing waters, be ready to get a bit wet, be comfortable going to the bathroom in nature and hike up big hills. But if you are up to that, I highly recommend it!
Highly recommended! Had a lot of fun kayaking on La Leona river and then hiking in an incredible place where dinosaurs fossils and petrified trees can be seen! Nadia and Fede were amazing guides, very passionate and explained the basics of kayaking so that everyone the group could enjoy the activity! One of the highlights of my Patagonia trip
We had the best time! Amazing views, the guides were fun and kayaking was incredible! I would highly recommend!
Excellent guides - friendly and knowledgeable - they not only made the day fun but also kept everyone safe on the river. It felt such a privilege to kayak the La Leona river and walk the badlands without another soul in sight. It was our group and the guanacos! This trip will ensure you fall in love with Patagonia (if you hadn't already)!
Kayak Santa Cruz did an amazing job organizing the entire excursion. Everything was seamless from the hotel pick up, transportation to the La Leona River, instructions for kayaking, giving everyone plenty of time to take in the view and take pictures during the hike, pointing out wild animals and explanation of the landscape, and final transfer back to the hotels. The guides also take pictures during the excursion and will send you a link to download after. Even if you are not experienced in kayaking, they will assist the entire way and is a great experience for anyone that wants a separate excursion from the glaciers. Highest praises for the entire team and I will recommend to all my friends that come to visit in the future. Thank you Kayak Santa Cruz for an unforgettable experience!
In order not to repeat all the previous positive reviews to which I completely agree, I can only add "go for it", it's a great day out with professional guides and you'll get to know some new things about the area. Take into account all the previous recommendations (to bring dry cloths, sunscreen, toilet paper, etc.) and you'll be able to experience Patagonia in a different way.
Beautiful kayak trip down La Leona river (class I-II) in sea kayaks. Saw lots of guanaco, rhea (ostrich looking bird), condors, dinosaur bones, petrified trees. Kayaking is easy but helps if you have been kayaking at least once before. Take mini bus to start site. The mini bus has a trailer with all the equipment. Change into wet suit, neoprene booties, kayak skirt, splash jacket, and life vest. (No helmet needed). Kayak for 6 km. A few easy rapids. Change into hiking clothes and throw wet stuff on trees and bushes and hope it dries . Then hike (easy to moderate) for an hour . Then change back into kayak gear. Then kayak 4 km. Then change back into dry gear. Bring water, lunch, sunscreen, hat (although my hat blew away into the river), sunglasses, shoes (don't need hiking boots), dry clothes, and an outfit to wear under the wetsuit (swimsuit or long underwear or leggings depending on the weather). You will get wet even though the river is not difficult. They give you a dry bag to use. Photos are included. There are no bathrooms so use the facili-trees. Our guide Federico was funny and entertaining. He genuinely enjoyed kayaking and guiding. Loved the trip and it was well paired for the day after the Perito Moreno ice mini trek tour.
We had an amazing day on the water and hiking through Patagonia on this tour. The kayaking was beautiful and a very cool way to see different parts of the region. On the hike we got to hold dinosaur bones and trek through regions not reachable by car. Federico and Hanibal were amazing guides!
Worth it! 12 kilometers of downstream kayaking on a fast moving river with some (small) rapids. It was really fun. It rained a bit, as usual here, but they equipped us with a wetsuit, neoprene jacket, and the sit in kayaks had a skirt to keep the water off you. A highlight was stopping to see a petrified dinosaur thigh bone and cranium sticking out of the dirt! Probably a puertasaurus. Guides were great. Really fun.
We had such an excellent day with Kayak Santa Cruz. They picked us up at our hotel and kept us engaged the entire time. The river and feeling landscape was beautiful and the guides were absolutely fantastic. This was active and an absolutely fun way to spend a day.
Highly recommended 👌❤️ We started early in the morning until the afternoon. In the middle we did a trekking then continue until the last point. The guides were knowledgeable, fun and always put safety first. They also took some nice pictures while we were in the water so we could focus on having fun. The kayaking was an amazing experience and our highlight were the guides, they were just great. Definitely a once in a lifetime experience.
