South Road within the Calafate area seem to supply the best trucks and vehicles. 4WD arrived right on time at my hotel and tour guide was Ruben. English was not perfect but good enough for conversations. He knew the private property and provided a greatv in-depth knowledge of the rock formations and glacial activity. Be warned .. bumpy tracks but that is 4WD driving. Stunning views at the top of the mountain of Calafate and the lakes. Weather was changeable and it did rain for a whole. Then back to the centre for a delicious lunch. I would really recommend this trip to anyone.

Itinerary
The excursion begins with the pick up at the hotels and continues with the vehicle to the Huyliche Hill, going up 35 kilometres on the hill line behind the village. From there, the 4WD will take you up to 900 meters towards a millenary geography and the best corners of Huylliche Hill. From there, you will arrive to a spectacular viewpoint, where you’ll see El Calafate city and the main body of the Argentinean Lake, surrounded by the mystical Patagonian steppe. You can find a great amount of fossils and if it is a clear day, you can observe the Fit Roy Mount; in addition you can see Andean condors very close to you. The perspective from there is unforgettable and you will see the Andes range, the entrance of the north branch of the Argentinean lake, discovering a glacier landscape. The 4WD continues up to 1060 meters, where is the labyrinth of Cretaceous rocks with small fossils embedded in its walls.
Then we go to our refuge located in a strategic place sheltered from the wind, a typical mountain refuge where we offer a snack or lunch (depending to the choisen option). You will arrive at El Calafate city after three hours of a great geological and adventure experience.

This was a really fun experience to see sights that we wouldn't have otherwise been able to access. While I was a little nervous when we first started driving (lots of bumps--it's off roading, of course) the driver was amazing and I felt perfectly safe. Our guide was wonderful, too, and did a good job explaining about the history and geography despite the microphone not working for him. Lunch was delicious and and filling! I would recommend!
I loved this trip in a beast of a 4x4. So informative about the early days of El Calafate too. Views were breathtaking and the ‘snack’ was anything but a snack….. it was a FULL afternoon tea with cakes, beverages and more on the estancia where I got to see horses and a beautiful calf. Thanks to our guide and super professional driver! Highly recommend
Most excursions are full day trips in CALAFATE, but this was the perfect half day excursion. The views were spectacular. And our host was very personable.
Excellent view and excellent guide! We have received answers to all our questions and curiosities. The programme well organised and well in time.
Ruben, our guide, made this adventure so enjoyable. He truly loves all his guests. We had a fun trip up the mountain with great views of El Calafate, Lago Argentino, and the snow-covered Andes. Then he made us a tasty lunch before heading back down the mountain to our hotel. We highly recommend this tour.
Was a fun half day adventure, the view from above El Calafate was amazing. Our guide wasn't fluent in English.
The overall ride and scenery made the excursion worthwhile. Very beautiful w/great views. The guide was very nice and professional, but we were disappointed that he did not speak any English. We had a very hard time communicating, and weren't able to understand any of the tour information he was providing. Our confirmation listed English-speaking guide.
Great walk. Panoramic view of the city. We saw the vegetation from close. The included lunch was perfect. We did with Patagonia Extreme. The guides Ezekiel and Jeremiah were great.
Breathtaking landscapes and magnificent discovery! Our guide, Santiago, was very friendly and smiling. He knew how to transmit his passion and his love for El Calafate.
Hermoso paseo, unas vistas excepcionales. Los guias estupendos. La comida en la estancia muy buena. Muy recomendable
Foi incrível. Guia perfeito. Realmente merece ser visitado O almoço é o vinho estavam ótimos . Super recomendado!!!
Vista deslumbrante!!!!! O guia, bastante solicito, conhece bastante da história da região e a conta de forma simples e encantadora. Amamos o passeio.
We take the 4x4 excursion to Balconies of El Calafate, Cerro Huyliche and Concreciones ("Mexican Hats") directly through the Service Provider, the Mil Outdoor Patagonia Enterprise. Good walk of three hours duration, which in our case allowed us to take advantage of the afternoon of the day of arrival (also recommended to take advantage of the morning of the day of departure). Driver Guillermo was a good driver of the vehicle and a friendly guide who not only provided interesting data from this ride but also very useful information for other excursions in the area. In total the group was composed of seven adults and we had a good time. I would not recommend this walk for families with children, I think the creatures may find it somewhat heavy.
Excelentes vistas a casi 1000 msnm, un guía simpático y además cocinero completan las mejores razones para no olvidar esta excursión
Beautiful experience! It was our second visit to El calafate and with this excursion we found it even more beautiful than the first time. The landscapes and views are unforgettable. The driver and guide was excellent, with lots of information about the area, which he spoke about with passion... and transmitted it. We totally recommend to take this walk with All patagonia, you will not regret it.
Excellent excursion If you have already visited the glaciers Balcony excursion is more than recommended It's a midday excursion In a 4x4 truck The views of the Argentine lake, mountain range, like the canyon of the hill are incredible We had the chance to see grey and red foxes, eagles, hawks and hares. The guides are very good, excellent predisposition and the lentil stew at the end of the crossing is sublime.
Although I considered it a nice excursion through the panoramic views and attention I consider the price a little excessive.
Very good excursion. It's simple and it helped to get snow. I think if it hadn't been snowy (which for us from Buenos Aires is a plus) it would have been normal, 3 stars. Very good the skating through the snow.
I have to tell you something, because you deserve me to. I can't let him get away without giving him light. Because I know it was something unique, unrepeatable in my life. The point is, I don’t know where to start, or rather: with whom or what. Each part was a link: the characters, the environment, the weather, the resources, the sensations, the fullness. As I write this, outside, a big snow falls. I'm starting... The ad said Balcones de Calafate, and it's not for nothing, I'd even say it's short. I see an imposing LandRover van arriving at the hotel and I thought: pure safari circus. How wrong I was, and how many times I thanked him! The driver, Pablo: Oh, THE DRIVER AND GUIDE,!!! Hats off, gentlemen, clap, and don't stop clapping. He drives with his eyes closed, because, still open, I can assure you that I do not know how he finds his way on a white blanket of snow where nothing can be distinguished. The Landrover is part of your body, both move and dance, (we all dance), in unison. He ends up taming the snow. Next to him the “Sebastian Bear” dressed in black, bearded, and face of “bonachón”, worthy co-equiper, and excellent in his filmic role, and in preparing a hot snack, so restorative, in a shelter, there, very close to the sky. My wife, Emy, companion, daring, warrior, next to me with her furious gaze from the beginning, until she reaches the top: And I, enjoying the trip, in awe, praying that it all ends, knowing that when I returned I would expect unpleasant moments. But on arrival Oh, God, everything changed, even Emy's spirits. Even, as if everything were ready, someone pulled back the curtain on a fog and clouds that seemed to ruin the reason for the trip: the sky and the horizon became present. (Thank you, God) Words are not there to describe what you feel there, between the clouds and close to the sky, in that vastness and loneliness where you feel so small and so grateful. Unsurpassed, unique, amazing, warm, unforgettable forever and ever. Already on the way back, I know that a part of me was left up there. And I fell asleep grateful for the choice and the day lived with you, with everyone.
We took the variant with Zipline. There are 4 sections with very nice views across the hill and very well guided. Then they take you to a room where we ate a patty and a lamb stew. The average meal but the experience of the view from the hill and then the zip line descent was the best. Let's hear it for the guides who took 10 points.
This excursion is much better than what you can count or what you can see in photos and you can visit a place that would not otherwise be possible to do it as it is private property. The duration is approximately 3hs and can be done in the morning or afternoon (it is nicer because you can see the sunset). Morning has lunch and afternoon has a quick snack. This excursion brings you very close to know both the town of El Calafate and its natural environment. Not only when you reach the top of Huyliche Hill there is a dream panoramic view but also from above you can understand the distribution of the new route of the glacier, the old route, stay Nibepo Aike, Cerro Frias, Cerro Elefante, Cañadón, Airport, Lago Argentino, Perito Moreno and PN Los Glaciares, among others. The photos taken from the top are unmatched!. The ascent is also amazing, you go up in a 4x4 in a steep and very irregular terrain jumping and flying through the roofs, very fun. If you're claustrophobic, you're scared to death because the van's on the edge of the ravine at times. You will also find typical wildlife such as wild horses and condors. You can't believe that the whole hill was once submerged under the sea. The formation of "Mexican hats" is something from another planet. Everything is beautiful, I didn't know it was so worth it!
