This was very well organized by the tour provider.petra is amazing 1 day is not enough to see everything in detail still I'm happy with my experience they handled the logistics perfectly. Be careful if you eat or buy anything there since vendors will try to over charge you.

Viator is a complete roll of the dice. Book at your own risk. After having a horrible experience with Viator In our previous booking for this exact Petra trip, when our operator ditched us and Viator refused to provide a refund, we hit the jackpot with this tour, which was wonderful from start to finish. We took our chances because Viator is very convenient and we had no time to re-book (we went to Eilat In part to do this trip and had only 1 day to rebook after the prior operator ditched us), but understand that some tours with Viator are great (as this one was), and some are horrible. It all depends on the actual operator that provides the service through Viator. Viator is just a clearing house, and they wash their hands of the service provided by the operator. The operator we had the first day did not provide instructions on where to meet and didn’t respond to calls, texts and emails. They also made us go through a totally unnecessary passport uploading process, and they told us we needed US dollars for visa, which was not true. The operator for this tour (the next day) was incredible. They picked us up at our hotel and took care of every detail. They did not create obstacles or road blocks like the first one did. Petra is beautiful, and our guide was extremely knowledgeable. We felt safe and cared for. What a difference a day (and the operator) makes.
We went to Petra at the end of January. We were 3 adults from Eilat. The car picked us up from the Eilat hotel at the agreed time and took us to the border. The driver spoke English and explained how to cross the border. Then he said when you come back from the excursion I will take you back to the hotel. When we crossed the border into Israel, we were met by another person from the agency who collected the money for the border fees (when we booked the tour we had chosen to pay the customs fees in cash). Then we crossed the jordanian border and got on a big bus. We went to pick up tourists from Aqaba. Everything went quickly and smoothly. When all the tourists were on the bus, we headed towards Petra. The guide gave each a bottle of water. The guide spoke good English. He told a lot on the way to Petra. The views from the windows of the bus were amazing. There was a toilet stop near the Petra. When we arrived in Petra and got off the bus, the guide showed us the place where we will have lunch and what time we will finish walking around Petra. The time during the whole trip was calculated well, because there were tourists who had to catch the ferry in Aqaba after the excursion. Walking around Peter went at a good pace, we managed to take pictures and admire it. When walking petra, footwear should be sporty. We went forward with the group. then we were given free time to walk back to the place for lunch. Lunch was a buffet. The food is delicious. Drinks at extra cost. In the afternoon we went back to the border. We said goodbye to the guide at the border. When we were in Eilat, the driver took us back to the hotel. The excursion is not cheap, but it is worth the money :)
Our driver to border of Jordania and away from border was really nice and funny. Petra is place to see but waiting in border was waste of time, took 1,5 hours. No matter the company you hire in Israel, one bus take them all to the one bus to Petra. The guide in this bus, Fadi, was really nice and efficient. Petra was cold at this time of year, Feb, since it's in the mountains.
We paid $378.10 for two adults for this tour and then paid another $260.00 for what we were told was the entrance to Jordan and recently to Israel fees. This should have been approximately $65 each. The operator never did give us a breakdown of this charge. We were the only Bookings/Viatour people on the trip and everyone in line in front of us was charged $65 per person. Petra is lovely. The tour was ridiculously overpriced.
Petra is a unique experience. One day probably isn't enough. The tour was ell organised and comprehensive. Our guide Karim was great. Thanks
I loved the locals that dressed as soldiers, they had fun with the event!! They were great and very entertaining!! Our guide Miguel was very helpful and informative also
Well organised trip which gave us 4 hours at Petra, not quite enough time to see all the highlights but enough to enjoy and learn about this fantastic place. Jordan charges a high price (90 dinars) for visitors to Petra who don’t stay overnight, and a higher visa fee, which contributes to the cost. It might be almost as cheap to stay one night in Jordan, which could give an extra 3 hours at Petra Guide (Ali) and overall organisation was excellent, they helped us at the border crossings which were easy on the Israeli side. very slow on the Jordanian. Lunch was disappointing
There was a border problem and the tour was cancelled last minute. Apparently it’s very difficult to do it in one day and the better option is to plan a two day trip which requires an overnight stay in Jordan . Unfortunately none of the tour operators tell you this clearly and they book a tour and then you either have to cancel and fight with them or they recognize their mistake and apologize which was the case here. The organization was very nice about it but they should not have booked a tour they should’ve override that feature on their computer system or posted a warning.
We had to cancel it when Israel implemented its covid-19 travel policy. Sadly the tour company would not refund any of the cost, and when I asked them if they would credit me the cost and allow me to rebook for 12 months from now (when my Israeli tour has been rebooked), they stated that they can't rebook that far ahead. It cost me $500 for the day trip for my husband and myself.
Definitely recommend to visit the Petra site. It is really a fabulous experience. The only problem was very unprofessional guide. When the group criticised him (some time delays of individuals), he almost physically attacked one of the guests. It was terrible experience to go through this.
We were prepared that it would be a long day but at the end we have seen everything what was needed during the Petra stay. Transportation and border control took same time but was not so worse than described in other comments. At the end a wonderful day.
Petra is a great place to visit and it’s definitely a change of scenery after several days of visit in Israel ! I think the tour company is ok, but advice for people who are signing up for this tour I would suggest and be aware of the following : - see if the tour operator confirm your Trip beforehand, if not advice to contact them to confirm the trip - Hotel pickup can be late since they will be collecting passengers from various hotel, the guide collect us at around 9:05am - you will be combining with several other groups of tour when you reach the border, some of them are staying overnight - inside the Jordan Israel border control will be chaotic, hopefully the tour guides will inform future passengers “clearer” on how to cross the Israel - Jordan border; ie: “where and who” to pay the border and visa tax - they have been doing this tour for a while now I they should enhance the efficiency. At least 2.5 hrs were used just to cross the border, and half an hour wasted just to find the guide - Bring a bottle of water / light snacks ; there will be a stop on the way to Petra after crossing the border, the stuff there can be expensive. - Inside Petra if you want to explore more; you can go with the guide; or do a research and get deep inside the structure for locations your want to see. We only have 2.5hrs inside Petra and couldn’t get into some structures - if I could choose I would skip the meal option entirely for more time in Petra. The meal time we had is around 4:30 pm, after visit to Petra so make sure you have a big breakfast in the morning - for some reason, the time taken back to Israel after sunset is longer (if in winter); and our trip ends at crossing the border back at 8pm; expect transport back to hotel around 9pm
great trip, great historic sites, horse carriage through the the cliffs was breathtaking.Great camel and mule rides too! Wouls recommend to stay in Jordan overnite and save on the $125 visa fee for one day. Best experience ever!
Choosing the right operator to visit Petra from Eilat is not easy. And I don‘t have a solution for you, I can just say that I would not repeat the choice I have made this time. One part of the choice is the daytrip from Eilat. Choosing that setup means putting the entire experience under time-pressure from the get-go. Petra is too spectacular to be handled in that manner. The other part is the company. They only way it really matters is in the way you get carried from your place to the border. The car in question did only have place to sit in one seat in the car because everything else was taken by other stuff. And in price, which I haven’t explored further. After passing the border, you get bundled together with various other groups (1 day, 2 days) from various companies and rushed through the day. You spend 1h in a shopping place in the middle of nowhere with people trying to get you to buy various types of overpriced knickknacks. Then you arrive in Petra, always reminded that you’re on a tight schedule. Our guide was a 60+ yo guy (Ali, who made a magnificent effort with a group consisting mostly of Russian-speakers who accidentally booked an English tour) walking an astonishing pace, hard to follow (I did the Masada snake path in 26 minutes the day after). I appreciate the difficulty to get that job done in a day, but i do believe it should be possible in a more customer-focused way in one day. But anyway, I would go for a two-day trip or even sacrifice a whole week of I could do it again.
You will never forget Petra. The 1 mile walk to the iconic treasury building is as wonderful as the building itself. But take a bus tour, not a van and NOT from Booking.com. The van was uncomfortable, the ride was rough, and the guide just wanted to get the trip over with ASAP. DO NOT take the donkey ride up to the Monastary!! I'm a very adventurous guy (Rescue SCUBA diver, bungy jump, etc) and it was WAY too sketchy for me so I quit half way to the Monastery and walked down. Slippery sandstone rocks, or worn out steps (1,000 of them) that are 3 feet wide for a donkey to negotiate, with 60 ft drops and certain death if the animal slips once. I just felt the downside risk was too great. SO - go to Petra for sure, but enjoy the walk, even take a camel or donkey to the Treasury building and coloseum, and if your tour has time and you are in excellent shape go see the Monastery. But the walk in to the treasury and the treasury itself are well worth the trip.
My wife and I bought this tour to Petra from Eilat this week. We were taken to Petra by car and fed along the road. Petra is truly one of the wonders of the world! My wife and I are very pleased with the tour and recommend it.
I think this is the best one-day tour of my life. Such a large number of architectural structures accumulated in one place I have not met. I just can't get over how they used to build it. Without further words', I advise everyone to visit this place, because it is better to see once in your life than hear a hundred times.
Went to Petra from Eilat.I liked the prices and the fact that everything is included in the tour,ie you do not have to think about some little things like transport or visa.Guides tell all interesting, and do not mutter under his breath.Recommend to all
Went with a tour company booked from my hotel. About 15 of us, the guide was informative an accommodating. Lunch was tasty and filling. Stops on the way to the site we’re appropriate, be prepared to be harassed at the stops though, although it’s probably for a good cause, the toilets are a lot to be desired
DAY TRIP TO PETRA: It is worth visiting from Eilat, if you are a fan of Petra you can have other options to sleep there and 2 days would be enough. Have in mind that the day trip covers part of the attractions and you won't have time to see the Monastery. BOOKING-TOUR: I think they a travel operator hiring other companies to do the service. So, don't expect that you wake a connection with someone. Their pre sales attendants are very good. The other services should be improved. ISRAELI SIDE: We didn't receive previously the driver's info, name, car plate or phone. One guy picked us up at the hotel a little late and took us to the Israeli border, it was only 15 minutes away. It was fast and easy. No big deal, the border offices are serious and efficient, you could do it without anyone. JORDAN BORDER: After finishing the Israeli border procedures, we walked to the Jordan border. There were another guide was waiting in the other side, he was from a Jordanian tour company receiving people from different Israeli tour companies. Having someone from the other side was very helpful entering a and exiting Jordan. THE GUIDE: The guide was the worst. He was sarcastic and, sometimes, impolite with the people there. I felt very sorry, specially for the older couple from Canada, who travelled the entire night and were disrespected a few times from this guide. He complained about our arrival time to the border, like it was our choice. Also said that the people from Eilat were in fancy hotels, having nice breakfast while the others were there waiting at the border. We never chose the time, it was a travel agency schedule, not ours. TRIP TO PETRA: So, we did a good and safe trip. Petra us amazing and worth visiting. But, the price we paid was very high and we expected a better service from the company. We only had 3 hours there, we could have started earlier and having at least 4 to 5 hours there and go until the Monastery. It could be better if we left earlier and had more time there, I saw here that it is a common complaint from others too.
Everything went smoothly. We were picked up at our hotel by our Israelidriver ehoescorted us to passport control. We were met on the Jordanian side by our guide who helped us through passport and security. Petra itself was absolutely amazing and beautiful. The meal that was provided was excellent. Go if you have the chance. Not to be missed. This was our second time there.
This was the only tour I found that could get us across the border from Eilat to Petra. For a full day, the price isn’t bad. However, plan on doubling this price because you will pay - in cash - another $135 (if my memory serves me correctly) to a “random man” at the border crossing. They were 45 minutes late picking us up from our hotel, but ignoring the high tariff to cross, they made the movement to Petra pretty hassle-free. Petra is beautiful but we only had about 3 hours to explore it- didn’t make it more than 1/3 of the way through. Our guide was very knowledgeable but we would’ve preferred more time exploring more of the city. The guide did give us 15 minutes at the start and 40 at the end to explore on our own (plenty of time to pay a Bedouin kid to take you to the top of the cliff facing the treasury *** if you are relatively fit***). All in all, we paid (a lot) for convenience because we could sleep in the car and didn’t have to bring out money for lunch. Wadi Rum would have been a fun place to stop in rather than just drive by but we did have a time crunch for crossing the border coming back to Israel. I already recommended this tour to a friend but it’s because other options (from Israel) are rare. Very informative tour but very expensive and not a ton of time in Petra itself.
Had an amazing tour to petra by booking tours , the organazation was incredible, the guide ali is informative and funny. Will recomend to all travelers coming to Eilat.
Good organization overall. The Jordanian guide, Ali, was very kind and competent. This trip remains a bit frustrating. Although the bus trip is nice, it is long. So we had only 3 hours on the site, which allows to see 25% of the old city. On the other hand, on the spot, many locals will propose you rides on horseback, donkey, camels or to buy souvenirs. They'll tell you its free but... ALWAYS negotiate the price in advance, and give the right account. They never change! Otherwise, the trip may cost you ... Finally, Petra must be seen once in a lifetime.
You don't expect the same customer service what you receive in Europe because it is not Europe. You are fully aware of it. You walk through the boarder in the morning (they provide you a transfer there) and wait in the Jordan side until everyone arrives. You have an about 2,5 hours ride to Petra with a stop on the way with toilets. In the store you have to bargain for the prices, the good news is that they accept many currencies the bad is that if you do not watch you will be tricked immediately. Be aware that you are on the same bus, tour and agenda with the others who all pays different prices for this tour. Ideally the visa cost 80USD and the boarder fee is 80USD. Different companies play a bit around with it but alternatively the sum should be the same. The tour itself starts from 150USD and goes up to.... On my bus we had a goup of 13-14 people and a couple paid for the whole trip 300USD, myself 340USD, another couple 360USD and some paid close to 400USD. Again, for the same service. The tour guide has had a good knowledge of history with a spicy humour. When we arrive to Petra we had 3 hours all together there. We walked through the gorge and it was min 1.5 hours by the time we got to the colonnaded street. it takes about an hour to walk back to the starting point from there, so we had about half an hour to walk (run) a bit around. Beside walking and enjoying our walk into the gorge we had to deal with the sence of humour our tour guide had. Such as "I'm going to sacrifice someone, if you know what I mean" - well, the meaning of this sentence was, that we had an elderly couple who weren't able to walk/rush the same way as the guide was expecting it, and he made his comment every each of the time he did not like something. It must be a culture thing but won't last for long with European customers for sure. We had to run back to the meeting point because otherwise we had to find the restaurant by ourselves... we were told that noone will wait for us. The food in the restaurant was a really great buffet late lunch with a fascinating view. On our way back we had another stop with toilet facilities, same concept as before, same style, bargaining and currency exchanges. Moreover, our agenda stated that we have a stop on our way back in Aqaba, the last city in Jordan before you reach the boarder. In the morning we were told that we did it if we had time. At the end we had a night bus tour with some historical comments and we got back to the boarder an hour earlier and by the time we crossed the boarder again on foot we arrived 30-45 mins in prior. I would only recommened this tour if you only have one extra day in Eilat because from there is closer enough than from Tel Aviv or Jerusalem, and you won't have other opportunities to visit this magical place for 3 hours, but for the money and the service we got I would not recommened a day trip. There must be another way to visit Petra without this huge rip off.
Very good experience and well organized pick up and transportation to the border. The guide was very well prepared. i would recommend it!
long ride from eilot. It takes about one hour to get through the Jordanian border and several hours by car to get to Petra

The trip was fantastic and Petra is definitely worth the effort. It does get expensive when you look at the total costs. You pay the 200 american dollars on the onset and then have to pay another 160 american dollars at the border cash. I really loved the trip, only complaint was that the guide cut us off early, we all had to leave at 3 pm when we only got there at 1pm. There was no reason to take off early. I really highly recommend taking the trip, but would want to have at least 4 hours to tour rather than the two we were given.

Very nice trip and great guide. Petra is amazing. The only thing is that the boarder crossing is kind of fishy since the first guide goes with you to the crossing and before crossing the boarder to the Jordan side he gives you an envelope with money and then you give it to the Jordan guides. Also it does not help that then they take out all the money and are showing it to you and playing with it

The vendor for this tour was absolutely awful. The only thing that went well was the pickup and drive from Eliat to the border. The border procedure took a lot of time and I suspect some suspicious activity as the guide held onto our passports after crossing and I noticed that we never received any form of entrance visa or acknowledgement from Jordanian immigration that we entered their country. Stay away from this operation.

Fantastic trip! Our guide, Ali, was extremely knowledgeable providing incredible details about the history of Petra and local culture. Add in he's highly entertaining. The scheduled pick up occurred as scheduled, process through the border without issue and lunch very, very good great view from the restaurant.

Worth seeing. I enjoyed the trip from Eilat to Petra very much and mostly because of our guide Ali. He is the best tour guide I have ever had. Perfect sense of humour, caring for every individual in the group. He swiftly switched from one language to a another so that everybody in the group could follow. The place itself is fantastic and I am happy I went there. Our guides from both sides Eilat and Jordan helped with all the border procedures.

Staff were professional at all times that I saw, but the bus we were on needed new shock absorbers and seat belts. They did not have any water on the bus, would have appreciated a notice to bring our own. Petra was fascinating, the guide was knowledgeable and explained things well. If you have mobility issues, you should advise the guide early, as they seem to have a minimum speed in order to complete the tour within a set time limit. The border crossing seemed routine, but was slow.

This was amazing - everything was easy and went well

The Jordan guide was simply the best + perfect organization = great experience

Seeing Petra was amazing. Definitely worth the effort and time. It requires a good amount of walking, but the path is generally but not always paved. Not nearly enough time for me to explore. I could have spent a few days looking around. Petra can also be HOT, so be prepared for the weather and bring lots of water if you go in the hot season.

Starting time 1 1/2 hours late, which came off of the time to see Petra. Serious miscommunication between Viator and their local tour guide via Booking.com. Advised to get a Jordanian visa personally, even though the local guide already had purchased a visa for us. Not winning any kudos from us.

Petra was a great spot and our tour guide was nice. Borders were handled nice and smoothly as well. We had time to wonder alone as well in Petra. Lunch place was good as well. Only reason for my average rating is the fact that they picked us up 1,5h later than said!!

The tour was a bit disappointing in terms of time management. We stopped for too long in a shop in Aqaba, before heading to Petra. We started the tour after 12 we left the Hotel before 8.30am, and we werent told that the lunch would be served only after the whole tour. We spend a long time in the Canyon/Siq with the guide. The guided visit stopped just after the Façade Street and the Theatre, and we were left with just one hour and a half free, including the way back which is about 45 minutes1 hour. So, we were basically left with only half an hour free, which is not enough to visit other relevant parts of the site.
We rushed back to the meeting point at the visitors centre by 15.30.Starving! Then we had one hour time for lunch. Sincerely, I would have preferred to eat a sandwich and have one hour more at the site. So, the guided visit of the site lasted from 12ish to 14ish. I think that the programme should be better detailed.

We went on a day trip to Petra from Eilat in November 2025, travelling together. Departure was early, but the transfer arrived exactly in time, all the information was clear in advance. At the border with Jordan, they helped with the paperwork and explained the order of passage, so the process went smoothly, although it had to wait a little. In Petra, we were accompanied by a guide who talked interestingly about the history of the city and gave time for photographs. Especially memorable is the walk through Sik and the view of the Treasure - impressions are very strong. Itinerary is full, lots of walking, by evening you feel tired. We were generally happy with the trip and can recommend this tour to those who want to see Petra without too much worries in one day
We took Booking tours on a one-day excursion to Petra from Eilat in March 25, the two of us. The departure was early, the bus picked us up from the hotel on time, everything was explained in detail on the way. At the border, staff helped with paperwork and gave directions, so the process went smoothly, although the wait took time. The local guide talked interestingly and without being overburdened with facts, gave time just to walk and take a photo. The most impressive thing about passing through Sik and the treasure trove, in life it looks much stronger than in the photo. It took a lot of walking, tired by evening, but it was lunch, simple but normal. Overall, the tour is well organized.
We traveled as a couple and chose Booking-Tours for a day trip to Petra from Eilat in October 2025. The departure was early, but the transfer arrived on time, the bus is comfortable, on the way they gave clear instructions. At the border with Jordan, the company's staff accompanied the team and told them where to go and what documents to show, so the process took a reasonable time and went without stress. In Petra, we were accompanied by a local guide who talked interestingly about the history of the city and took his time, leaving time for photographs. Most impressive was the walk through Sik and the view of the Treasure - it looks much more powerful live than in the photo. It took a lot of walking, by evening you feel tired, but the route is well thought out. Overall, the tour will be great for those who want to see Petra for the first time in one day - the organization was satisfied.
It was very hot, but Meqal, our guide, made it a fun day by telling with great enthusiasm. Anyway Petra is a must to have seen/done tr and an unforgettable experience!
Unspeakable emotions! For my husband and I, it was our first experience and the change of scenery was exciting. The guide gave much information about the historical Petra. The tour involves a long walk, but it's worth it. Not a significant downside (to me) - a long road.
Also war sehr knapp. Da könnte man mehr Zeit bekommen!
Kone dopotene, bez iskry, zničené a psychicky vybavené.
My wife and I booked the tour through the TripAdvisor website and paid for it in advance. We got an e-mail that we had to pay $140 for the papers to get into Jordan. Reviewing on TripAdvisor we saw that the visa cost USD 65 so we understood that USD 140 was for both of us. We were picked up by a very friendly person and transferred to the border, handed a fee payment paper that could not be read because I was very old (20 days ago) and generated discomfort with the Israeli migration staff. Then we got to the Jordanian side and a very aggressive person told me that I had to give him $280, I told him that he didn't have them and he left me talking and he left, then he came back and threatened to send us back to Israel, we were able to complete the $280 and we gave them to him, then talking to the people who did the tour with us we found out that the amounts were different for most, there were people who were charged $160 and others who paid $115. Which seems very bad to us. Then we were put on a bus that made a difference to all the buses in the area, but unfortunately, very uncomfortable seats, a dirty, old bus and with air conditioning problems at times. Petra is awesome and makes you forget everything else and the guide was extraordinary. Lunch was great.
