Thanks for the best evening. Thanks for being so good at teaching a novice who had never been on a horse before how to ride fast without falling off. I absolutely loved it. By far the best thing on this island. It was just wonderful from beginning to end: navigating through forest, crossing fields and streams, racing up steep climbs, and crawling down steep inclines; then watching the sun set on Rapa Nui from Terevaka, the highest peak on the island, from where it is possible to see the entire island surrounded by the vast blue Pacific on every side; then swapping to a faster horse for the return journey, as the sun sank slowly into the Ocean, and I descended into the dark forest, still wearing sunglasses! Puku was such a beautiful horse, and such a joy to ride. Alice and her husband were both fantastic teachers, and full of island knowledge. Such a magical experience. The only problem is, I can never go horse riding again, because no matter how good it is, it will never come close to this.

Itinerary
Take a short drive to the ranch, enjoying the nature of the road. Here you will meet your horse and the activity guide. Once presented and given the first instructions, we begin the ascent to Terevaka. At first we crossed a forest of eucalyptus where small birds live. Then we continue riding on the high mountain meadows, a perfect place to enjoy the view and the changes of tones in the sunlight. Once on top, the horses graze and we sit down to enjoy an outdoor show. On the way back, the first stars appear and in the middle of the forest we reach the end of the tour. Special route beginners. The weather can be quite unpredictable, it is a good idea to be prepared for some rain.

An Incredible Horseback Ride to the Top of Rapa Nui As someone traveling alone on Rapa Nui, this horseback ride was one of the highlights of my trip. My guide, Memo with Adventure Terevaka, was excellent—friendly, knowledgeable, and made me feel completely comfortable throughout the ride. The 2½-hour ride began by taking me through a huge eucalyptus forest. The forest was incredibly peaceful, and the smell of the eucalyptus trees was amazing. Eucalyptus was introduced to Easter Island as a fast-growing source of timber, and extensive plantings eventually created these large forests that are so striking against the island’s normally open landscape. After leaving the forest, we traveled across beautiful rolling hills and open countryside, gradually making our way to Terevaka, the highest point on Easter Island. Riding through the middle of the island, away from the crowds and surrounded by such incredible scenery, gave me a wonderful feeling of being completely immersed in Rapa Nui. As I descended, the sun was setting, and the views became absolutely spectacular. It was a beautiful and peaceful way to experience the island. And I have to mention my horse! His name is the Spanish word for “wind,” and he was great—calm, dependable, and a wonderful companion for the afternoon. Traveling alone, I couldn't have asked for a better experience. A beautiful afternoon, an incredible landscape, a great horse, and an excellent guide. I highly recommend Memo and Adventure Terevaka! I wanted to add pictures, but Viator will not allow me.
Awesome tour and guides. Beautiful views of the island at sunset. Great for beginners, the guides teach you even if you have never been on a horse.
Overall, it was a fantastic experience. We went out with just one other couple and Alice (owner) and her partner. The horse I rode was very responsive and well trained. Since everyone was pretty comfortable on horseback, we did some trotting and cantering. Getting to the highest point is a beautiful ride and once you’re there it’s amazing. It’s one of the few places on earth where you can do a 360 and see the curvature of the Earth everywhere. So, not recommended for flat-earthers. ;) Sunset from this vantage point is beautiful, especially if it’s a night like the one we went out on where there is some cloud cover, but not a lot. You can hike the trail on foot if you want, and we saw some people doing that, but nothing compares to doing it on horseback. Like anywhere in Chile, knowing some Spanish is helpful, but the owners at least have a working knowledge of English so you’re OK either way.
The sunset ride to Mount Terevaka was the highlight of my trip to Rapa Nui. Pick up by Alice was easy and guides Tonchi and Nemo were incredible. They were as attentive to beginners as to making the trip exciting for more experienced riders. While I do ride, I am cautious on tours, but Tonchi and Nemo encouraged me to have fun — even to canter! I have done many trail rides and tours, but this has been the best experience. Instead of the usual nose-to-tail trail ride, it was tailored to participants’ riding levels. I left feeling even more confident in my horsewomanship. The views and colors are unbelievable, and you will experience parts of the island that many visitors don’t. The horses are well-cared for and helmets are provided. Thank you, Tonchi, Nemo, and Alice (and Merlot)!
Had a great time. Lovely activity to get a good view of the island. I had originally booked the sunset ride but because the weather was too bad and raining it had to be cancelled due to safety. Tonchi was very prompt in reaching out and accommodating. Luckily we were able to move the ride to a different day before my flight out. I have heard from someone else who did the sunset ride it is beautiful and you can see the stars on the way back( but not recommend to take photos as can scare the horses). The horses where well cared for and happy, and a great thing to do if you want to see more of the island. If you have been on horse trail rides before the horses do have a some free will and will try to go there own way rather than just following the path so some guiding is required and Tonchi was close by if you needed some help. They provided a helmet. I would suggest wearing long pants so your legs don't get sore from the saddle. For any booking on Rapa Nui I recommend utilising WhatsApp. It make communication much easier as everyone else uses it.
We had an amazing time on the horse ride. We were reached out to on whatsapp and picked up at our hotel. The communication was super clear and had no issues getting to the stables. They helped us with the horses and we were off within 15 minutes, and the ride was fantastic. The views of the entire island at sunset were beautiful and the horses made all the difference. I HIGHLY recommend booking this for your trip to Rapa Nui, truly one of the most special moments of our trip!
If you love nature and want a unique experience of seeing a panoramic view of Easter Island —hop on a horse and enjoy this super fun excursion. The guides were great and very accommodating and helpful to all levels of riders. Highly recommend!
Excellent way to experience the island! Knowledgeable, welcoming, helpful and kind - i would recommend this activity to everyone that wants to see all parts of the island
ABSOLOUTELY AWESOME! Our hosts were amazing. On top of everything, beautiful ride and experience. I am 70, and needed help on and off the horse, they were right there to assist. Just a wonderful couple. Thank you
The guides offer free rides to their ranch, where you’ll meet very calm and friendly horses. Listen to the guides’ instructions and you’ll have an easy ride to the sunset. We did this tour at New Year’s Eve. Memorable moments.
♥️♥️♥️ the best experience. Tonchi and Nemo are great, patient teachers. It's so relaxing to just trot along through the hills, past cows and wild horses. My horse (KT) galloped up a hill for like three seconds and it was the best three seconds of my life.
There are some places you go to and some experiences you have that you will remember forever and this was certainly one of those treasures. Alice and Nemo are just so lovely and hospitable and I felt right at home. I am an inexperienced rider but by the end of it I felt like I could easily move to Patagonia to become a gaucho. And getting to Terevaka itself feels like facing the spirt of Rapa Nui, it was truly amazing. Thankfully the sunset was better than I imagined and the footage/photos I got were remarkable. Even if there wasn’t a sunset I’d still definitely do this. Do Rapa Nui properly and just book this, you will cherish this memory for the rest of your life.
Great experience. We were picked up from our hotel. Tonchi the owner and our guide was very insightful about the history of Rapa Nui. Additionally, he made sure everyone was comfortable with riding the horses. The views throughout the ride were great. Definitely recommend!
Excellent experience. The owner Tonchi spoke English and was an excellent guide as I haven’t ridden a horse in a LONG time. The ride was beautiful. Riding through the eucalyptus forest was so cool. You had to take a moment and breathe the smell of the air. Getting to the peak was such a treat! This is a truly unique experience on the island as the only other known horse riding farm closed several year ago. I catch wait to see how this young entrepreneur’s ranch evolves over the years. Looking forward to riding the next time I’m in Easter Island. Such a special experience.
We had the most amazing experience. The freedom to ride the horses along the island and up to the tallest point was something that we will all remember. The views were amazing and the guides were awesome. Such a fabulous experience!
I definitely not recommend this company. I had been waiting in the hotel for 1 hour and I still wasn't picked up. I tried to contact the tour operator but didn't get any response. I felt very disappointed.
Amazing experience! I was worried about riding back down the mountain in darkness but thankfully that wasn’t an issue. We rode about an hour to the top, spent some time there, and then rode back down before sunset. While on the ride the sun set and eventually once we made it back it was dark. Overall great experience!
Despite being a terrible rider I had such a fun time. I was told I’d be picked up at 6pm and Alice arrived on time. The ranch is such a beautiful place, completely different than the rest of the island. You ride through a eucalyptus forest and beautiful rolling hills with cows and horses grassing freely. You walk up to the tallest point and watch the beginning of the sunset and get the enjoy it on your way back. Our guide (his name escapes me) wasn’t fluent in English, but he tried his best and could be understood. He stopped and took photos for us (another participant and I). The horses are beautiful and are so healthy. You can tell everyone who works there loves their job, maybe except for my stubborn horses 😜😜 I would 100% do this again and recommend you book this. Bonus: if you’re lucky you might spot some chickens, cat or dog. Warning: if you’re not an avid rider, be prepared to be sore. Bring as little as possible since you’ll be carrying it.
This is great way to see the island and the unexpected views and beautiful vistas it offers. We very much enjoyed the ride with our guide and host and felt it was the perfect introduction to our Rapa Nui stay.
This was not a ride to see sunset at the highest point. It was a lovely ride to the highest point way before sunset because it would be too dark to ride back if you stayed there for sunset. Since it was winter they picked us up at 3:30 not 6:30. Luckily, he gave us three hours notice and we weren’t on a whole day tour!
We had a lovely horse ride! The landscape is beautiful and we were paired with horses that were appropriate for our riding levels. The sunset has beautiful. We would recommend this tour!
The ride was easy. The horses were gentle. The leader was friendly and cared about our safety. He also knew a great deal about the island. It was a fun experience.
Peaceful ride. Loved my horse. Guide spoke very good English and Spanish. Views spectacular. VERY windy on top of Mount Terevaka but fun and made for great photos. View of water and sky with so many colors was spectacular.
Our guide was so attentive to each rider and I really appreciated that! I loved my horse. The scenery was beautiful and the ride itself was a nice amount of time. A perfect evening!
This is a really great tour to experience the sunset on Easter Island. The horses were well prepared, and my guide spoke English very well and was very patient with me.
Guides, Alice and Tonche, are amazing! Had the most wonderful time. The ride up was very relaxing and arriving to the highest point on the island provided the most beautiful difficult to describe in words, views. The ocean seems endless and the colors at sunset were awe inspiring. We are so small and the world is so large.
We had a wonderful horse riding tour in Rapa Nui. Our guide was very insightful and personable. Just bring a warm jacket.
Tonshi is amazing The horses are beautiful and well trained The view on the mountain is staggering
Tonchi took myself and a few other solo travelers on this horse ride and it was a really special experience to ride to the top part of the island to watch the sunset. His English is great and he makes sure you're comfortable on the horses starting out and gives pointers on how to ride/control the horses. I ended up losing my phone on the way home, and he went out of his way to find it the next morning and bring it to me at my hotel in town! I was so impressed with the friendliness and genuine concern to help and overall experience.
This is one of the highlights of our trip, sign up for this! My husband and I are very experienced horse riders, but this trail ride is suitable for any level rider, including those with no horse experience at all. The horses are incredibly safe and sure-footed, the saddles comfortable and guide Tonchi was very welcoming and helpful for folks with no horse experience. Tonchi's English is excellent and he is very responsive to Whatsapp messages. This trail ride takes you through a eucalyptus forest, beautiful fields past herds of cows and horses, and offers sweeping views of the countryside and coast. At the top of Terevaka, we dismounted to take pictures at the highest point of the island at Terevaka then sat and watched the sunset. The ride back to the stables into the sunset and under the stars of night was absolutely stunning. It was such a memorable experience. I bought my tickets through Tripadvisor with no problems. I highly recommend this.
This is a must-do on the Easter Island! I saw the most beautiful sunset and had a blast riding a horse for the first time in my life. Tonchi and Alice are doing an amazing job here, wishing them lots of success with this great business!
Booked the sunset horseback riding tour. Tonchi came to pick me up around the agreed time and we went to the stables which was about 20 mins drive from town. Tonchi helped me get on the horse and off we went. I had rode horses before during holidays but previous experience is not required, as long as you can stay calm and relaxed, it's all good. We rode to the highest hill Maunga Terevaka. Got off there and had some to chill out there. It was dark when we started heading back, it was my first time horseriding at night, it was full moon that day though and I could see everything quite clearly. Tonchi was friendly and reassuring. 2 small suggestions though, first I was the only one who booked the tour that day and was grateful that they didn't cancel it. Tonchi brought her mother along, I really don't mind this and thought it was sweet for him to take his mom for a ride, but it got a little awkward as it felt a bit like I was intruding on their outing. The other thing was we started a bit late, I was there when his van came and we also started right away after arriving the stables, but the sun had set by the time we reached the peak, wish we have started a little earlier so that we could catch the sunset properly. The horses are gentle and well taken care of. It was very tranquil riding through the forest and enjoyed the experience.
This was such a cool experience, I think I enjoyed this ride as much as I enjoyed seeing and learning about all the Moai on the island. Tonchi and Alice were expert hosts and were very welcoming in letting me know all about my horse and what to expect of the ride both up to the top and back through the forest. The sunset was spectacular and the horses were obviously loved and well cared for. Their three dogs even came with us on the ride, which was great. The ride back through the forest at night, in near pitch black conditions, however was spectacular. Being able to see the night sky through the tops of the trees, all the stars (including the southern cross constellation, a satellite and a shooting star!) was incredible and probably the best part of the ride. Highly recommend this experience!
Great ride through the forest. Guide and tour owner Tonchi was very knowledgeable and personable. We did not feel rushed and he allowed us to enjoy the sunset. We were picked up from our hotel and then was dropped off as well. Horses were in great shape- looks healthy and well kept. Thank be of the highlights of our trip.
Everyone goes to see the Moais on the island, but this horseback ride was truly the highlight of the trip. The owner and his wife are so personable and gracious. While the sunset was beautiful, the unexpected highlight was the ride down Terevaka through the forest with the incredible stars overhead. SO MANY STARS! It was like glitter in the air. What I really like is that there were only three people in our group. The horses are well cared for and in good shape. I like this tour so much, I contemplated taking it a second time and I recommended the tour to others during my stay. Two Thumbs Up!
Decided to do this tour last minute. It was a good decision. I never rode a horse before but they made sure I was comfortable and safe. They are very professional. Clicked our pictures as well while our hands were busy riding the horse. The saddles were brand new and comfy. As I'm an ardent animal lover and against exploiting animals for pleasure, for me it was a relief to see that all the horses were healthy and were treated with such love and care.
The ride to Mt. Terevaka was very enjoyable. Tremendous views on the way up as well as at the top and the ride itself was quite comfortable. I recommend this if you're going to the island.
Good Tour, guide Tonchi very nice and welcoming to tourists; However, Alice left a lot to be desired, she was the one who took us from the hotel to the place of the parade, from the beginning her attitude was dismissive towards us; then on the way back we needed to arrive on time for a show (since the tour had been promised to end at 7:40 p.m. at the hotel); However, it was delayed for reasons that we understood, despite having explained that we had to be at the place as soon as possible; She treated us contemptuously by asking her to please leave us at the show location, and made comments like: “ah, then walk away”; being that at no time were we disrespectful. As for Tonchi, his attention was excellent, he himself said don't worry, we'll leave them where they belong. Alice leaves a lot to be desired in her treatment of tourists
Excelente volta e excelente experiência única com cavalo . Toda a vista e todo o conjunto do programa
The boys are super friendly and friendly, they give you confidence and help if you have no experience with horses.
Very friendly guide. Always worried about safety, teaching us to ride while not neglecting the magic and wonder of the place. Unforgettable.
It was an amazing experience. The quality of care of its owners and the crossing totally recommend it. And the wonderful landscape
on October 28, 2019. and few people... Time is stopped.. Of course, we will have to pack our bags on our way back, but we are salivating to be present here..What a great experience this Easter Sunday, 1722, Jacob Roggeveen, (Dutch ) in setting foot on this magnificent island. His logbook records that he was greeted by Polynesians similar to those of Tahiti, and Hawaii. Some have darker skin, he ratings, others are very white like Europeans, and have red hair. He describes, astonished, the moai, 9 meters, still standing. The inhabitants, maintain fires, in front of the statues and continue their ritual, until sunrise. 50 years later, Gonzalez Felipe, who enters the island with 2 priests and a battalion of soldiers, plants a cross and claims the island in the name of his very Catholic majesty. He will note, that the natives are naked, except for feathers, but women, hide their breasts and hips. He teaches them how to recite in Spanish, Hail Mary. In March 1774, James Cook arrived on the island after visiting New Zealand. He is surprised at their small number, and their miserable living conditions.. And here we are this day in 2019, where Nicole is there, admiring this magnificent sunset, that others have admired, throughout these centuries;..I remain humble, amazed, tears in the eyes, joy, admiration, Is there another place, in the world, that will leave me, as many memories????? A population probably lived there, sitting in this meadow, where I posed, my posterior, to admire this corner of the world. Thank you, for all those memories that will invade my life
A really beautiful and exciting hike. Seeing the sunset from the highest part of the volcano and returning under the stars is an experience that I would recommend to everyone. Tonchi and Alice are very good and very kind, young guys who care and put so much passion into it.
One of the most fascinating experiences of my life. I highly recommend it. Breathtaking views, horseback riding and return with night walk in the woods. That's crazy!
