Amazing performance and immersive experience - my family and I had a great time learning about Zulu culture and watching a ceremony of marriage in traditional song and dance.

The Tour was excellent and Fortune our guide was most informative and helpful and made it a memorable occasion. The vehicle was comfortable and we arrived at each venue according to schedule. The places we visited were all very interesting and the scenery spectacular. There are a wide range of tours available, online booking was easy and price’s reasonable. I would recommend the company , you would really enjoy this tour.
The entire tour was great. Bule was very friendly, amenable, patient and flexible. he shared a lot about Durban and the places we were visiting. Visiting the Zulu village was a fascinating experience, the reptile park was very cool and the city tour was also very interesting. Would definitely recommend if you want an authentic taste of Durban!
Our guide Bule had a lot of great information about the various sights we saw both at the Zulu village and the various sights in Durban. I came away with a better understanding of the local history and culture. Definitely a great way to spend the day!!!
So much fun and so accommodating. From the Zulu Dance to the Apartide Museum and botanical garden, this tour was informative and fun. Bule is truly a professional tour guide! 😉
Amazing experience. Great ambiance. Excellent driver Bule. All along helpful and knowledgeable. Tour program is splendid. Journey was smooth and enjoying including on time pickup and drop from hotel
Full day package, very good driver, covering wonderful Zulu culture and reptiles park, Durban City tour, Botanical garden and ample time to shop at local market
We really enjoyed the Zulu Village tour and learning about the traditions, as well as seeing the tribal dances. The reptile tour with the crocodiles and snakes was also very cool. Going back into the city was very interesting to see Durban sites and the Victoria market, but our favorite was the botanical gardens there. If you are very interested in the Apartheid museum and Victoria market, best not to schedule on a Sunday as the museum is closed and the market closes fairly early that day. We really enjoyed Bule and his sharing with us about the traditions of the Zulu and wish him best of luck with getting his first 11 cows!
Don't waste your money! The itinerary is misleading. It identifies 2 hours at each of these locations, the Safari Park(Cultural Show) and the Valley of a 1000 Hills. The locations are one and the same. The Shopping experience was less than desirable. The driver indicated the tour would end at 2 pm, although the itinerary shows 8 hours and 15 minutes of tour time. I complained to the driver, and he adjusted so that we could at least see those landmarks listed. The cultural village show is weak; time could be better spent doing something else.
This was a brilliant trip. Picked up by the lovely Bule from our h guesthouse and then spent the day visiting the following: PheZulu cultural village, reptile park and city tour. The Zulu talks and dance demonstration were great - very interesting. The Reptile park, although small, was also interesting and we had a lively hide take us around and talk to us about the reptiles. The Bule took us in a drive tour around Durban where we saw a lot! He was very informative and explained a lot to us - including some Zulu words. We were the only people on this trip and as such it was much more personal. Brilliant day - thank you :)
We were very impressed with this tour, which gave us the opportunity to see many interesting attractions in Durban, tour Victoria Street Market, the gorgeous botanical gardens, and the Apartheid museum in addition to PheZulu. Our guide Freddie was so excellent, knowledgeable and professional that we booked a second tour with him the following day. Great experience!
Very poor tour. We were told 9am pickup from our hotel and the guide showed up at 8:20am. We felt pressured to go immediately so we didn't have breakfast then we found out we were the only people on the tour. Also they charged us an extra R400 ($40) for pickup even though we were 15 mins from their office and we are the only people on the tour! Driver said he normally has his wife there as the guide and he just drives but she wasn't there. Explainations were very basic. We didn't vist the Town Hall, Stadium or uShaka Village Walk. We were given no time for lunch either which is not acceptable on a 7 hour tour. Not to mention we both felt car sick from his very jerky driving. Stay away from the tour. Worst tour I've had on Viator in 10 years.
The PheZulu cultural village is very interesting and to take contact with the African culture. The city tour in Durban has nothing much to do, it is great to have an idea of the city and so but nothing special.
We loved the Zulu Show and the reptile park - it was way better than even expected! Then our guide showed us a lot of durban as well which was great to also get an overview of the city! Unfortunately, we didn’t go to the Apartheid museum.
Everything perfect! Very interesting and complete tour around Durban in the wonderful landscape of Zulu village and downtown with all the most interesting spots in town! I do suggest everyone to experience it!
Actually the visit to the Botanical Gardens was a highlight. Our guide, Alain, went out of his way to make sure we witnessed all the best things in his city.
I had a great time on this excursion! Bafana was very professional, knowledgeable, and kind. I felt safe the entire time and thoroughly enjoyed myself. He is a great asset to this company.
A great tour for us visiting Durban for a day from our cruise ship. Our guide was excellent and we really enjoyed this wide ranging tour which included a drive through the suburbs to the Zulu village and the reptiles as well as an extensive tour around Durban covering all the sights. Highly recommended.
Excellent trip, driver was great. Views were spectacular, and we had flexibility on how long we stayed in the locations. Wonderful day.
Much more entertaining than a typical City Tour. We learned a lot about Apartitie - we had had a number of miconceptions. The markets we interesting. A visit to a crocodile reserve was interesting since in one area they had both crocs and dators and we could easily see the differences. The Zulu village and dance show was fantastic. But we felt sorry for the people. The three people in our party were the only ones there for their great performance. The stop at the Botanic Garden was also great. We recommend the optional "golf cart tour" for ZAR 100 pp. Amoung other plants we got to see the "World's Lonelyest Tree" (Only one male has ever been seen in the wild in 1895 and NO female has ever been found. We enjoyed this sight so much we went back the next day n our own.
Zulu village experience Was best part of SA trip. Reptile park is amazing experience too . Loved this trip .
Because of Tour Guides like Johnny Matthews, we will keep us using Viator as our go-to Tour Agency. Johnny was so friendly, informative, and accommodating for our small Group Tour. He knows the Durban history and it’s local peoples very well - and they know and respect him. He knows so many people on the Street, Vendors, Police, etc. that we suggested that he run for Mayor! Highlights were some behind-the-scene places that other Tours could not access. He provided pickup and transportation and even got two additional Security guys while walking the Sidewalks. Our Safety was his paramount concern, and we felt at ease throughout the day. Please extend our additional thanks to Johnny. We highly recommend this Tour.
Loved it!!! The Zulu dancing was fantastic, with 1000 hills in the background. I enjoyed the crocodile farm more than I thought I would. Our tour guide there was very informative and fun. I loved seeing Umhlanga rocks, such a nice area. And also the city halls… Beautiful architecture! And the botanical gardens was stunning. Definitely pay a little extra for the botanical gardens golf cart tour… Vishnu might be the most enthusiastic person I’ve ever met. The entire day was perfect. Thanks so much!!
Had so much fun seeing the cultural dance, the snakes and crocodiles. I really learnt a lot and even held a snake😂, one thing i fear with my life but the trip was full of surprises
Freddy made this wonderful experience even better. He was fluent in many languages being able to communicate and make this experience memorable for everyone on the trip. The Zulu dancers were entertaining and friendly. The crocodiles were memorable as someone lost a hat to the wind and watching the crocs attack the hat as quickly as the did was exciting
Started slowly but got to see a lot in little time, Durban botanical Gardens are wonderful, Vishnu excellent
Highly recommend, was the highlight of our trip! We were able to see Zulu Dancing, hold crocodiles and snakes
We had a nice day out and visited the Zulu village where we saw a show and the crocodiles and snakes. We also went to the Museum, the Botanical gardens, the Victoria Market and the football stadium. Benson was a good guide and made the trip interesting. All in All a good day out.
The people were friendly but the car was lousy and too small for 6 people which was the Four of us and two people from their company and the trip was about 4 hrs only.
Its a very pleasant gentle flat 8 k ride or walk on the promenade including the extension from Ushaka sea world to the end of North pier to watch the ships coming and out . a great way to enjoy the beachfront and sight seeing along the way . It has stops along the way for refreshments as well
This was a trip with something for everyone. Our guide was very knowledgeable giving us a full background on the history of the Zulu nation. The displays and presentations by the staff at the village were authentic and filled with insights into their culture. The scenery was absolutely stunning and worth the trip in itself.Full marks to our guide.
What an amazing place to be. We have really enjoyed our stay in Blue Waters Hotel, #Durban. See you soon
Fred from Zulu Safaris was our tour guide. First we made our way to the Phezulu Village which is a show village where they put on a humorous show in traditional costume for the audience. Although the village covers a small area, it has been recreated very well. There’s also a café and souvenir shop there. Right next to the Phezulu Village is the Reptile Park to which we proceeded next. We saw numerous crocodiles some of them way up close, including baby crocs that are small enough to fit on the palm of your hand (they are in a protected enclosure, though). The local guide of the facility was very well versed and she presented us with tons of interesting facts on crocodiles. There were also enclosures for a number of different snakes and also chameleons. A very informative stop indeed! Following this we made our way to see the sights of Durban and it is here that Fred was in full form explaining to us all the facts of the sights we saw. We visited Victoria Market and also walked through the Zulu market, which is unique and an absolute must see for all tourists. Then on to Ushaka Marine Walk where we had lunch. After lunch, we walked the beach road with Fred all the way upto the Moyo restaurant at the end of the pier with great views of the beach and surrounding area. Fred covered many historical facts with the ease of a professional. Next, we drove around the rest of central Durban including the government buildings and the Marina before heading to the Durban Botanical Gardens, which is a very beautiful and peaceful place. Fred’s knowledge on the plant life within this garden was astounding as it was almost as if he knew every type of tree on the route we walked. Having the Dubai Botanical Gardens as part of this full day tour was really a highlight as we learned a great deal about some of the rare species of plants and trees that were housed in the garden. Of particular interest was the orchids section which houses a dazzling array of orchids and then the ‘Garden of the Senses’ which houses plants that provide different sensory experiences. The Museum was closed on the day of our trip so we drove through other areas of Durban such as Florida street and made a photo stop at a location off an elevated road, from which we could get a beautiful and unfettered view of Durban with the stadium and the sea front area. We then made a brief stop to view the huge statue of Lord Shiva at a Hindu Temple close by, following which we drove to the Moses Mabhida stadium. Special thanks to Fred for stopping for us to buy a sim card on the way back to the hotel and also for taking us to the local Pick and Pay store near the hotel at our request. Because it was past sundown he refused to let us walk the distance and waited for us instead, finally dropping us off right at our hotel doorstep. Truly a day well spent with Fred - a fabulous tour guide!
Like many cultural experiences this one is tired and lacking engagement. Weather did not help and very few tourists in attendance. Durban tour was OK and gardens were nice. Would like more enthusiasm from tour guide. All in all covered what was offered but was Ho Hum.
Ndu Nene Picked my wife and myself up from the hotel at 9.00am and we went straight to the Phezulu village. We were very lucky as there were only another three people on the tour and we became friends! Dancing at the village and explanations given was really well done and we had the opportunity to see and then taste the local Zulu beer! The crocodiles and snakes was something else especially handling a young Python! The itinerary was great including a 45minute stroll around the botanical gardens with Ndu explanations of all the interesting plants and trees. The highlight of the tour for me was the walk through the medicine market. The smells and what was on display will be with us for ever. I never imagined that we would be allowed to walk through as we did! All the other aspects of the tour was superb. Definitely recommend and a very big thank you to Ndu Nene
We had an awesome time. Definitely a must do if you are coming to this area!! Our guide was very informative and had us laughing the whole trip.
This was a private visit with my partner, the drive from Durban to PheZulu was about 45 minutes, the visit was very informative, we learned about the culture of the Zulus, how to brew the traditional Zulu sorghum beer, we also have a taste of the beer, the traditional Zulu hurt was fascinating, we learned about the traditional food like samp with tripe, the Zulu dance was very spectaculer.
Had a brilliant day, picked me up on time and took me to the Zulu Village. Very interesting insight into their way of life and the reptiles the house there. Then went on the city tour where the guide took me to all the hotspots with great knowledge of the area. Guide was extremely easy to talk to, had a great sense of humour and would definitely recommend this trip to anyone wanting to see what Durban has to offer.
El viaje muy merecido. The tour was great. Ndu Nene guide really professional and nice! Got to learn a lot!
1st Zulu Safaris were fantastic, could not fault in anyway. Ndu, my guide was helpful, informative and ensured I was satisfied through out the whole day with the tour. He even aided with souvenir shopping.Would definitely do other tours with them if I return to SA.
After pick up at our hotel, we started off by visiting 1000 Hills Valley to see the Zulu Village and Reptile Farm. The village is a replica but you still get a good sense of village life. The cultural part was entertaining. The reptile farm provided opportunities to handle some of the non-venomous animals The Durban City highlights tour does not cover the city in depth of course but provides a good overview. It enables you to know whether you want to return to any specific place to spend more time We met the owner Christos at the end and he was very helpful with some advice for our ongoing travels.
We ( couple) and one other person were on this tour. We received very personalized service, which was so much better than a van or bus tour. We really learned a lot about both the Zulu culture and pre- and post-Apartheid. Very informative. Just wish it wasn’t raining.

This tour began with the on time arrival of Terry and his able intern Nozipho. We decided to visit the Valley of the 1000 Hills in the morning because the weather was perfect and was questionable in the afternoon. After a short drive, which included a brief stop for refreshments, we arrived at the Valley of 1000 Hills. I am sure you can guess how it got it's name. At top of the hill is a traditional Zulu village. While this is very interesting and informative, it is overshadowed by the spectacular view of the valley from this strategic high ground.

The Natives provided an excellent example of traditional Zulu dances that were associated with various stories of Zulu life and culture. After that, the guest entered a massive Zulu hut for a short briefing on Zulu life and traditions. The whole experience was very interesting and informative, Be sure to bring you camera! After the entertainment, the dancers posed in their traditional Zulu warrior dress for photos with guests. This portion of the tour took most of the morning.

Returning back to town, Terry and Nozipho discussed the history of Durban. Driving through the streets, we visited various sports stadiums, centers of commerce, the harbor area, and the beautiful city hall. We also visited the Indian and local Flea Market. This was an unusual experience. The tour culminated with a visit to the City Aquarium, amusement park, and beach.

It was an excellent, full, and interesting day. I highly recommend this tour with THIS company! Terry and Nozipho were great!

This tour was a good way to use the single free day we had in Durban. The Reptile Park was interesting. However, despite having confirmed, we were picked up late and had the impression from our guide that First Zulu the actual tour provider might have forgotten they actually had clients that day, until we called them because they had not yet shown up. The tour guide was very informative in the morning but seemed to run out of info to impart after that. The stop at the Botanical Gardens was more rushed than I would have liked, likely because of the late start.

My tour guide Thammy is very informative and helpful. I really appreciated his detailed explanation at each point that we stopped by.
Highly recommended to those who looking for a relax and hassle free day tour. Worth for money!

Brilliant day, due to Christo, our guide from 1st Zulu Safaris. Just the two of us sharing his knowledge and excitement for this still new nation. Highlights were the PheZulu experience in 1000 Hill Valley and an unforgettable hour spent wandering Durban's Botanical Gardens. The Spice market was unreal and the Aids/Apartheid Museum eye-opening. Expensive but worth it - especially as we were his only client's and we shared all his intimate knowledge and enthusiasm. Thank you.

Our guide was punctual and very friendly. We requested a 10am, which we were grateful could be accommodated. We did not go to the Botanical gardens, the Temple or Mosque but visited Umhlanga instead. The Phezulu village and reptile park were the highlights of the tour. Lunch at UShaka overlooking the ocean was a great venue recommended by our guide.
The cost of visiting the Stadium was not included in the price.
Our walk through the Muti market and Apartheid museum were interesting but rushed - no opportunity for photos and whisked off to the next venue.

My wife and I did Durban City Tour with 1000 Hills.

Our tour guide Thaimi forgive spelling was awesome.

We began in Durban and went out to the country for Zulu history performance, couple of scenic stops along the way, reptile sanctuary and concluded with multiple stops within the city botanical gardens, harbour, city center, and aqua marine.

There was plenty of opportunities for photos and history lessons throughout.

We got back in plenty of time to freshing up and relax, before heading out to dinner.

Trying to confirm our booking as requested by e-mail on arrival in Durban was somewhat of a pain! However, we were rung back by out guide, Chrostoph, who was extremely helpful and knowledgeable. as we only had the one full day free in Durban this tour was ideal.

Sotiri and his staff customized our trip to meet our special interests and once again, our high expectations were far exceeded! I wish it was possible to rate this HIGHER than the excellent 5 star rating!
