Itinerary
Bosanka village on the Mt of St Serge (or Srđ in Croatian) is one of the filming points above the Old Town of Dubrovnik where the two filming scenes took place (Tyrion waiting for the Dornish party and Brienne's farewell to Jaime). Apart from that, it offers great panoramic views of the Old Town of Dubrovnik.
The Trsteno Arboretum complex of renaissance gardens is one of the most frequent filming locations outside the Old Town. It is a home to numerous scenes involving the Tyrell family (Lady Olenna, Margaery and Loras) as well as some other characters from the GOT (Jaime and Bronn swordfight training, Oberyn and Cersei negotiation before Tyrion's trial, etc...). Apart from being used as a memorable location from the show, the Trsteno Arboretum is the oldest and the biggest monument of garden architecture in Croatia. Dating back to 1494, it is a former aristocratic estate with an abundance of plant life (around 500 different species from several climatic zones).
The defunct hotel Belvedere, near the St Jacob beach (Sveti Jakov in Croatian) is one of the most intriguing filming locations in the Game of Thrones - the site of the infamous Trial by Combat between prince Oberyn and the Mountain! This modern edifice that dates back to 1985 was only in operation for 6 years when it got damaged during the siege of Dubrovnik in 1991-1992. The lower plateau of the hotel was skillfully adapted in 2014 by the HBO to serve as the arena where overly cocky prince Oberyn met his untimely demise by the Mountain in the most gruesome way (an eye-popping and mind-blowing scene from the GOT season 4)

We went with my sister and brother in law on the GOT tour with Tom. This tour was recommended to us and Tom went above and beyond our expectations. Tom showed us all of Dubrovnik then we did a walking tour of the walled city. Even after our tour was over, he came back to pick us up, take us for sunset photos and return us to our cruise ship. We have already recommended him to others who will be heading over. By far best tour we have been on. Thanks Tom for a fantastic day and great memories.
This tour was fabulous. We learned so much history about Dubrovnik and Croatia, and also got to see many filming sites from Game of Thrones. Tom is a wonderful host and I would highly recommend that anyone visiting Dubrovnik take one of his tours.
Tom's GOT tour was fantastic. We did a combined driving tour as well as walking tour of Dubrovnik (including walking the city wall). Tom brought to life the various scene's and then flexed to specific sites and locations that we wanted to see and did it flawlessly. Next time we are in Dubrovnik, we will look to use Tom for other tours that he offers.
We had a wonderful Game of Thrones tour with Tom. He brought us to so many beautiful filming locations outside the walls of old town Dubrovnik. We especially loved the beautiful gardens. If you are a GOT fan this tour is a must. If not, you will enjoy the amazing scenery that Tom shares with you on this journey. We highly recommend this tour. Thanks Tom!
We had a great time with Tom on this Game of Thrones tour. He showed us so many locations where the show was filmed outside of the old town city walls. We especially loved the beautiful gardens. We would recommend this tour to any GOT lovers.
We just spent 2 1/2 hours with Karmen and it went so quickly. She covered all the game of thrones sites and also history of Dubrovnik and Croatia. She is obviously well Educated and manages to Put the information over in a way that’s not too much, so no Brain overload with too many names and dates as you sometimes find. It was definitely worth booking the personal tour rather than the group. She is also great with the camera, she ensures you get the best shot and seems to Enjoy doing that too. We would definitely recommend her and this tour to anyone who loves game of thrones or Croatian/ Dubrovnik history.
Our tour guide was Marko who totally made the experience. Brilliant knowledge and an excellent communicator. Always welcomed questions and answered them honestly. My girlfriend had never watched seasons 1-7, (although she watched bits of Season 8) but enjoyed the tour as it included facts not just about GoT but the history of Dubrovnik also. We went over to Lokrum Island which is simply a MUST! Along with just being an amazing island, it has an Iron Throne replica which is cool to have some photos and show off on social media. Cannot recommend this tour enough for big GoT fans - however especially Lokrum Island, which is incredible is worth the money alone.
What a fab fab tour with Tonka. We had young children as well as some GoT enthusiasts. Tonka managed to keep all of us interested for the entire couple of hours. She gave us a great overview of the history of the city, architecture as well as the importance of Dubrovnik as a town by the waters. Tonka was a GoT extra so my Husband enjoyed chatting about the shooting of GoT and the actors she met. Definately book her if in Dubrovnik!!
We were thrilled with our guide Sonja. She had a thorough knowledge not only of GOT but of Croatia. 🇭🇷 We had a nice small group which allowed us to take our time site seeing or to continue on as we wished. Croatia is an absolutely beautiful location I only hope I will be able to return soon! Thank you Sonja! You are awesome!
I can not say enough amazing things about the tour we had with Tonka. She was waiting for us right on time at our designated meeting spot. She was delightful and so informative. Not only about Game of Thrones, but about the history of Dubrovnik. My husband and I were on a cruise and only had one afternoon to see the city. I'm a die hard Game of Thrones fan and he had only seen a few episodes. We were both blown away by the tour. It was nice that it was just the two of us with Tonka. We passed several gigantic groups and I was so glad not to be in one of those. You will not be disappointed in this amazing tour. The scenery is amazing from expansive crystal blue green sea views from high above, to the charming winding alleys and streets in the town. We absolutely fell in love with the city and with the friendly people. I can hardly wait to watch the final season and look at everything now that I've been there. And so cool that she was an extra too! She gives lots of inside scoops!
...but when I do, I wish I could give even more! A truely amazing day spent with Tonka and Neno, cannot praise them enough. We booked this tour as the grand finale of our Game of Thrones themed Croatia roadtrip and what a finale it turned out to be! Very relaxed, laid back and informative, and you can absolutely feel the difference compared to the rushed, commercial group tours. You really get the royal treatment, no question remains unanswered or photo op missed out. Made by fans, for fans. Thank you guys once again for an unforgettable experience! Valar morghulis!
We enjoyed the most amazing Game of Thrones tour with our wonderful guide, Jovica. We visited sites in Dubrovnik Old Town, the Fort Of St. Lawrence and beautiful Lokrum Island aka the locations for Qarth and King's Landing. Jovica both helped us with and gave us lots of opportunities for some amazing photos and also explained some of the history of Croatia, all of which we thoroughly enjoyed. The tour felt very personal and was so much more enjoyable being just our family, rather than being in a huge group. Tom supplied us with lots of information about the content of each tour, which allowed us choose what would suit us best and we all felt the GOT tour was the highlight of our trip to this beautiful city. Highly recommended!
We were very lucky to have both Tonka (an extra from seasons 4 & 5) and Neno as our guides for the Complete King's Landing tour (Old Town+Trsteno Arboretum). The two of them not only knew a huge amount about GoT but were also very knowledgeable about Croatian history. Two of our group were Game of Thrones fans, but one had never seen an episode and she was just as enthralled by the tour as we were. Seeing how much of Dubrovnik is used in addition to the CGI was a great backdrop for learning both more about the show and Croatia. Using screen shots from the show at each location, made it easy to see how it all comes together on screen. As an extra Tonka was able to give us some inside information from the times she was on set, which made the tour even more fascinating. As we were nearing the end of the tour, just when we thought we could not have had a better time, there was one more surprise – a sword fight, and we were in the starring roles. It was totally amazing, and the only thing that could have made it any better would have been a film crew to record our valiant efforts.
Absolutely fantastic tour. I can't recommend it highly enough! Myself and 3 friends took part in the King's Landing Tour and Tom was very accommodating, friendly and knowledgeable! The ticket price included the cost to enter the St. Lawrence Fortress so it is really very good value too. If you haven't seen Game of Thrones but you would like to, or even if you have family or friends who like the show, I would recommend this tour. I had only seen up to the end of season 3, another member of our group had only seen season 1, and the other two hadn't seen any of the show, so Tom adjusted the tour accordingly to avoid spoilers, while still giving a really great history of the area of Dubrovnik. It it so cool to get a background on the filming as well as the history of such a unique city! Along our tour route he told us about some of the modern culture as well, and pointed out some bars and clubs we might have liked as students. At the end of our tour Tom even walked us to the information centre where they told us about spring break restaurant deals where our tour ended around suppertime. We also got lots of really nice photos which was a treat as we hadn't had the opportunity to get any good group photos before now. We also got photos on a Dubrovnik replica iron throne in a very cool Game of Thrones gift shop which was tucked away and I wouldn't have otherwise found! Definitely a top experience to have in Dubrovnik! Valar Morghulis! :)
My husband and I took a Mediterranean cruise last week, and our last stop was Dubrovnik, Croatia. Because we are huge Game of Thrones fans, we decided to book this tour. We could not have been more satisfied with the tour. Neno was incredibly knowledgeable both about the city of Dubrovnik as well as Game of Thrones. He had the answers to all of the questions we had. He weaved in information from the show and information about the city throughout the tour. It was like we got a double tour all in one. He even picked us up right at the cruise port and knew the PERFECT spot to see the entire city from the top of the cliff. I am so glad we decided to book this particular company, as they only do personalized tours. It would not have been near as enjoyable if we had been in a group. Neno carried pictures of scenes from the show, so we were able to see the exact spots that they were filmed. The tour was about 3 hours, and then Neno gave us about 45 min. on our own in the city before taking us back to the port. It was the most enjoyable day we had on our cruise. You cannot miss out on this tour. It was truly the best!
We went in a group of 4, 3 of us being big Game of Thrones fans and one of us never have watching. ALL of us loved our tour with Tonka! She was so knowledgeable about both GoT and Dubrovnik history as well. She also was able to give us great recommendations for the rest of our time here. Such a fun and relaxed tour.
This is a great company to use if you're looking for a lot of detail on Dubrovnik and Game of Thrones. Tom provided excellent communication from initial contact and managed to squeeze us in with Jovica for a tour at short notice. Jovica was extremely knowledgeable and had lots of stills to demonstrate filming locations and various scenes. He even had us recreating some of the images for our personal photos which was fun. The tour lasted around 2/2.5 hours and ended in the gift shop where you could have a picture on the Replica Iron Throne. Really enjoyable day. The only slight negative I have is that the pictures indicate people with some of the props such as swords etc which my 12 year old was looking forward to seeing obviously never having seen the show. These were no longer available due to misuse which led to my boy being a little disappointed. Would highly recommend these guys though. No big groups and very personalised.
Our group of 4 did the Game of Thrones tour in Dubrovnik with Tom. We started at 9am and ended a little after 11:30am. Tom recommended we start on the early side given the crowds and heat and he was absolutely right. He has a deep knowledge of the city as well as the series which only improved our tour experience. Two of the people in our tour actually don't watch Game of Thrones and when Tom found out he instantly adapted the tour and engaged the entire group on not only where the scenes are shot but included just the right amount of historical context as we strolled through the city. HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS TOUR IF YOU ARE VISITING DUBROVNIK!
Very good tour with Tonka, she was extremely informative and enthusiastic on both Game of thrones and the history of Dubrovnik. She was also very accommodating, letting us change the day of our tour as a member of our group was sick. She let us stop in many places and offered to take photos for us which was really nice. The tour flowed very well and all members of our group enjoyed it! Would definitely recommend!
I've seen the TV-series and read all of the books, so I was looking forward to this tour very much, and so was my girlfriend. Incredibly, it was even better than we hoped for! It was so cool walking around in the exact locations of so many different scenes. Tonka was a great guide, and the fact that she had been an extra in season 4 and 5 (in two of the entire series' most iconic scenes, even) was simply awesome! Besides showing us all the locations in Dubrovnik, she told us all about the behind the scenes of taking part in the filming, such as why a group of girls were following Jaime Lannister around, the Mountain's surprising pet and who was the nicest person in the cast etc. If you are a fan of Game of Thrones and in Dubrovnik, this tour should be your no. 1 activity. Bonus: Go for the early tour as we did (meeting up at 8.30) to beat the crowds.
My girlfriend and I signed up for the 7-8 hour whole day tour and were certainly not disappointed. Our guide picked us up on-time (8.30am) from the front of our hotel in a nicely air-conditioned car and proceeded to show us around the different sites. We both found our guide, Neno, to be both very friendly and informative - often asking if we wanted pictures taken and generally helping us to tailor the tour to best meet our needs. Tom was also very good when communicating and arranging the tour. The tour itself was very well structured to take account the heat of the day, beginning in shaded gardens and moving on to other locations at times when they are better known to be quiet. Neno also drove us to a spot high up on the ridge above the Old town just along from the highest location on the ridge (where the cable car goes to), which provided fantastic views - even better than those we got having gone up the cable car the day before! We then went, during the heat of the day, to Lokrum Island (used as the shooting location for Quarth) which enabled us to cool off for a few hours in the shade, grab a drink and swim in the lovely clear water (Tip for Lokrum - Make sure you enter the water in the right location just off of the flat rock - as some of the swimming places can be quite rocky and unstable to walk on or swim near!). We then took the ferry back to the Old Town to meet Neno again (on the tickets he had purchased for us - included in the price of our tour) and proceeded to look around the main shooting locations in the Old Town (King's Landing). During this time, we were often led to shelter and shaded areas to get out of the heat - which was very welcome. Neno was also able to take us along more sheltered, less busy routes to get around the Old Town more easily. During our tour we saw many large groups travelling around on similar Game of Thrones tours. While such tours were likely to cost less than ours, both my girlfriend and I were very appreciative of being able to ask any questions we wished, to speak with our guide more generally and get the best views and pictures of ourselves in the locations - something you likely would not get in those larger tours. This also enabled us to ask more in-depth Game of Thrones related questions, which Neno was knowledgably able to answer. At the end of the tour, at about 6.30/7pm, Neno was able to take us back to our hotel in his car - which was great as our hotel was some way from the Old Town. I would most certainly recommend both the full day Game of Thrones tour, the operator (Tom) and our guide Neno - who posed for an end-of-tour selfie with us! Thank you for a great time!
We made reservations with Tom several months in advance and were so happy with his tours. He has great knowledge of the country, the surrounding areas, Dubrovnik and of course Game of Thrones. We had fans of the show on the tour and some of our group who did not know the show but enjoyed the views and all the history information. Tom was an excellent communicator - he promptly emailed back, provided clear directions and information for meeting, he was patient with our large group. We have had tour guides in Rome, Lisbon and London - Tom was by far the best guide we have used for vacation visits. It was fun and really gave us so much insight into the country. We booked two tours - one for Dubrovnik and one for a a trip to Ston and wineries. We had our best meal with Tom at a small restaurant in the countryside. If you are going to Dubrovnik - don't miss out on a tour with Tom!
My boyfriend and I went on a tour with Tom on a recent visit to Dubrovnik and it was one of the highlights of our trip! We came in on a cruise ship and had a limited amount of time which was a bit concerning, but Tom was a pro and made sure we were able to see all of the main "attractions" without feeling rushed. While I am an avid GOT fan, my boyfriend was more interested in the history of the city. Tom was extremely well-versed in both, allowing for a well-blended tour that suited both of our interests. There are a ton of GOT tours in the city but this one is (in my opinion) the best because you are not at the mercy of a large group that limits your ability to explore a lot of ground in a short time. The personal tour also allows you be a bit adventurous and climb up to the top of the fort, which may be difficult with a larger group and folks who aren't interested in hiking up a hill/large staircase. I highly recommend Tour the Game of Thrones to anyone visiting Dubrovnik looking for a great immersive and personalized experience in the city!
Tom was great - extensive Game of Thrones knowledge as expected, but also knew a lot about the history of the city, which made for an enjoyable tour for those in our group who weren't big GOT fans. I would recommend this tour to anybody.
Our group of seven had differing needs so Tom suggested that we customise a game of Thrones tour. Some of us did the full day tour and some did half, with Neno taking us through Dubrovnik scenes and the afternoon, and Tom taking us around Lokrum. We even met Tom's sister who played an extra in the "Shame" scene, with classic lines that she can tell you herself :-) As expected, Neno and Tom are extremely knowledgeable about GoT, answering every question, but also very thorough on their Dubrovnik history and current affairs. One of our group was not a GoT fan but was still highly impressed with the tour. Neno is also an aquaculture specialist with a strong marine science background so he has a great understanding of Croatia's marine life.
I actually took the tour even though I dont watch Game of Thrones. Only my sister out of a group of 4 watches it. However, Tom made sure that it didnt get boring. He also clubbed it with a lot of history of Dubrovnik. The GoT part was also quite interesting, because of which I started watching the show! Thanks Tom:) The tour was a brilliant experience!
This tour is probably the best city tour my wife and I have ever been on. Tom was extremely friendly and provided us with information on the history of Dubrovnik as well as information about Game of Thrones. He had a book with him that showed how each site looked on the show. Tom only does small group tours which is great because he can answer any question you have. I would definitely recommend this tour!
Some in our group were interested in Dubrovnik's history while some were interested in the Game of Thrones. Tomislav, our guide, covered both and created an fun, interesting and informative afternoon. We learned about Dubrovnik's history, its people, food and more - as well as where scenes from Game of Thrones and the yet-to-be-released Star Wars movie were filmed. This was one of the best tours we've been on.
My gf and I just did this tour a few days ago and it was amazing. We showed up at 9 and Tom was waiting for us with a sign and we were off and walking around. I was hesitant at first because I didn't want some tour of just standing at spots with pictures on it and being marched off to the next. Tom was a true fan of the show though and had lots of insights and stories about the filming that I doubt these big tour groups can give (his sister was a extra in the show). The other cool thing is that in between walking to other sites...Tom gave us a great historical overview of the walled city...he was extremely knowledgeable and full of interesting stories. My girlfriend and I couldn't stop talking about how awesome the tour was at the end of our trip...and we saw a lot of cool stuff. If you're a game of thrones fan...or just a history fan...Tom is your guy...no doubt about it!
Our group consisted of two avid Game of Thrones fans, one GoT "supporter", and two who had no clue what the show was about and could care less but were dragged along (my mother being one): everyone had a great time! Tom provided some excellent photos to accompany all the location shots and allowed us to re-create some of the scenes. The two who had no clue what was going on actually loved all the view points and different areas we were taken (old city with fortress), arboretum, and some special viewpoints. Tom did an excellent job of mixing interests: the people who were not Game of Thrones fans were treated to spectacular views and photo ops with a bit of Croatian history. Communication with him was extremely easy and efficient over email: he was extremely thorough in explaining and answering all my questions because we were part of a group tour that would've toured the old city already in the morning before we met him in the afternoon. He was also very accommodating and always considerate of my mother's needs. The driver was also quite excellent as he maneuvered some very sharp turns and narrow streets. Highly recommend!!!
We were a group of 27 people and of that 27, seven were not able to do the Game of Thrones tour so Tom suggested that his counterpart take us on a tour of the old city. What a tour it was! New enjoyed it thoroughly. I would recommend Tom to anyone!
We went on the 2.5 hour Game of Thrones tour with Tom and loved every minute of it! He was a very personable guide and we really enjoyed the tour. The best part was that we learned a lot about the GoT scenes/shooting, but we also got a lot of great info about the city because Tom is a history buff. It was perfect for the non-GoT geeks in our group :) Would highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting!
Tomislav's walking tour relating to the Game of Thrones was fabulous. His passion and knowledge of the history of this city was even more impressive. He was most accomodating to our group of 8 and if I were you, I'd book this guy immediately, as he is the best!
We had Neno for our game of throne tour. Neno mannerism was top notch. He's very kind and knowledgeable. Our group had a great time learning about set of game of throne and the history of the city. I highly recommend this company.
We had a great tour with Tom who was very informative, knowledgeable and friendly. Tom went out of his way to accommodate my sprained ankle and slowed down the pace of the tour so that I was able to enjoy it! Tom ensured that we missed the big tour groups at each stop so that we weren't crowded by sightseers and straining to hear! The stills from the GoT series were really good quality and he took us right to the positions where the cameras would have filmed it from (sometimes far away from the crowds) - we felt like we were on set! Tom also gave great recommendations and a comprehensive email/guide for other locations and activities close to Dubrovnik which were very enjoyable. A great experience all round for Game of Thrones fans - we would highly recommend it! Valar morghulis!
We had such a fun and informative tour lead by Tom. He was funny and very informative. We had a small group with great characters. We are big fans of Game of Thrones and thoroughly enjoyed our walk around some of the areas in the film. It was just long enough for us. A fair amount of walking and like anywhere in Dubrovnik, a lot of hills. We went early evening and the sun setting over the city was beautiful. It was a nice introduction to the city, even if you are not a huge fan of the series, you will see some interesting buildings. Tom is knowledgable and able to answer lots of questions.
I went for a long weekend to Dubrovnik with a few friends and we ended up choosing Tom's tour as he was able to combine both the Game of Thrones information and information about the city itself so that a bit of everything was covered. How did the tour go? We couldn't have asked for more. Tom is a phenomenal tour guide and can tell you so much about the city, from the Game of Thrones filming sets and stories to the history of the city and recommendations for local places to go. He's a fountain of knowledge and his enthusiasm for the tour and the city knows no bounds. As you're in a small group rather than with one of the bulk tours that are offered to you every few steps, you have ample opportunity to ask questions and get all the insight you would miss out on in one of the other tours. I have recommended Tom's tour to friends who are going to Dubrovnik in the near future and cannot recommend enough that you book a tour with him.
We were travelling as a group of friends for a long weekend in Dubrovnik and looking for something mixing the true history of the city with knowledge about filming locations for Game of Thrones. Our guide Tom suggested a fact and fiction tour which suited us perfectly. These guys know what they're talking about in both regards! Tom was brilliant and had both links to the filming of the show as well as being a teacher of the history of the region at Dubrovnik University. He also gave us handy tips to maximise the rest of our holiday which were incredibly useful! There are loads of GoT tours on offer (you can't walk far without being offered one) but you'll be sharing these tours with 20 strangers with no time to really take in the beauty of the old city. We can't recommend these guys more, in fact we've already done so to friends visiting the city soon!
Our group of 6 (4 Canadians & 2 Americans) booked a 5 hour tour on a cruise ship stop in Dubrovnik through Tours By Locals with Tomislav. The tour was the Game of Thrones Tour and climbing the city walls. It was absolutely fantastic and one of the highlights of the entire 12 day cruise along the Mediterranean which included many other tour companies and guides along the way that don't even come close to Tom. Tomislav is so knowledgeable, down to earth and accommodating. The tour was fun and informative about the history of the city both ancient and in more recent times. I would highly recommend him to anyone visiting Dubrovnik, especially if you are a Game of Thrones fan.
The tour my husband and I went on was only in English. Despite this, the skill and patience of the guide were fundamental to make the whole group understand the beauty of the places and all the interventions used by the crew in the organization of the shooting. Try it!
