We had an Awesome day with Ivan as our driver and guide. He was able to look ahead for fastest route through border crossing giving us plenty of time at our stops in Montenegro. Ivan was helpful explaining the history of the area and fascinating stories about how he and is family survived the war while driving us to our destinations. It was very insightful and we appreciated all the information he gave us about the region. He was a very great communicator and the scenery to Kotor was beautiful. Kotor is a charming old walled town with spectacular views. Highly recommend this tour.

Itinerary
Start your day with a pickup from your centrally located Dubrovnik hotel, and then travel out of the city by luxury vehicle. While your private guide drives, sit back and relax, admiring the scenic countryside of Župa Dubrovacka Valley and the Konavle region.
Cross the border to Montenegro and travel along the picture-perfect Montenegro coast, typified by sweeping blonde-sand beaches. Pass the UNESCO-listed Bay of Kotor -- Europe’s southernmost fjord --along the way.
Continue to the neighboring village of Perast, lying at the foot of St Elijah Hill. Much of it was destroyed following an earthquake in the late 1970s, but the gorgeous village still exudes a very Baroque feel with its beautiful villas and churches.
Optionally, take a short boat ride the Our Lady of the Rocks island and admire the art stored inside the small chapel (boat ride fee 10€).
Travel to Kotor, and explore this beautifully preserved medieval town. Learn about the town’s important sailing heritage, having had its own merchant navy under the Byzantine Empire. Visit St Tryphon Cathedral, an elegant Romanesque building.
Soak up the views and then head to the coastal town of Budva for lunch (own expense). Enjoy a couple of hours here at leisure, perhaps relaxing on its famous beaches or strolling around the pretty streets. Meet your driver at the pre-arranged time and start your journey back to Dubrovnik, passing along the scenic coastal roads. Enjoy one last treat– a ferry crossing along the Bay of Kotor – and then finish your tour in the late afternoon back at your hotel.

Went with private driver from Dubrovnik to Montenegro. Overall, the trip was disappointing. Weather was bad. It rained all day and that did not help. The biggest problem is that Kotor is flooded with people from cruise ships making the experience very unenjoyable. The beauty of the area is lost but the # of people. Also be aware the passport control wait was 2 hours coming back into Croatia. It is because you are entering a Schlage country. Research this!. It’s a long wait after a long day.
Tony was patient and was generous in providing information about the area as well as insight into the culture of the people and things to do. We also stopped at lovely place for coffee right over the boarder - a great start to the day after the long drive.
Ivan was a great tour guide. Very informative and everything ran smoothly. Absolutely stunning scenery
The tour was really beautiful. Ivan was very interesting and helpful. He was a great driver who shared a lot of information and communicated clearly. Montenegro is gorgeous in a different way than Dubrovnik. It as a great driver introduction to another country.
Great experience with our driver, Joe. He was on time, very knowledgable and gave us a lot of history about the area as we were driving. Saw three cities - Perast, Kotor and Budva. Kotor was the most active town with lots to do. The others were beautiful with less shopping, restaurants, etc. Highly recommend this one to get to see another beautiful country in the region.
Absolutely the way to do a day trip to Montenegro. Our driver Ivan made sure border crossing was smooth and fast. In a bus tour, it would be quite the ordeal. Ivan gave us just enough history and information about Kotor and Our Lady of the Rocks that we felt we spent our tine well without feeling like a lecture. Plus his knowledge of wine came in handy. Tried some fabulous wines at lunch in Kotor. Definitely had enough time at each location without feeling rushed. Great day trip!
Nice trip however if you’ve visited a few coastal old towns in Croatia you are probably not going to see much new. Would have been nice to have had more information from our guide particularly about the points we stopped at.
Tony was an amazing guide and driver for our day trip. The views were beautiful and we had a great time.
This was a very nice trip! Leave early morning to avoid long lines at border. Watch the weather - it was sunny when we left Dubrovnik and windy/raining and cold in Perast and Kotor. Regardless, it was an awesome trip! So beautiful and Luka did a great job explaining things to us. He was also knowledgeable, but gave space for us to just watch and take it all in.
This was an excellent tour from Dubrovnik- convenient mechanism to see Kotor & Perast. See Lady of the Rock church in Perast. Gorgeous scenery all around the Bay of Kotor- what a Gem! We were told it is too crowded in summer peak season. Ivan was a great , informative guide. He truly took care of us— Thank you Ivan!!
Zach was an excellent and friendly driver, attentive to our needs, who did his best to ensure we had minimum delays at the border crossings. We had plenty of time at each stop, and it was a beautiful, scenic drive.
Was nice one dY tour to Montenegro . Outr tput giude Evan very knowledgable . We like it a lot. Im glad I booked this trip
We booked a private tour, rather than a group and could not have been more pleased with our day in Montenegro. Our guide Ivan was so incredibly knowledgeable. Both my husband, and I like knowing the history of what has occurred in a region, and Ivan so exceeded any expectations of his knowledge and ability to convey what had transpired over the prior 106 years. There was no question he didn’t answer and he willingly shared what had occurred. When we got to each location, he told us where we should make points to see, and then give us time to explore. He also knew the tricks to make getting through the border crossing quicker. If it is in your budget, and you are interested in learning about the geopolitical history, as well as the history of the area sites to see, ask for Ivan and book this trip.
Ivan was absolutely amazing! He was so knowledgeable and friendly and gave us great recommendations. The car was extremely nice and comfortable. Couldn't have asked for a better experience.
Ivan was the perfect guide. He's very professional, a great driver, so knowledgeable about the culture, history, geography and he made our day very special. I would highly recommend this tour and Ivan specifically.
The day went as per the description, except Milka was excellant at avoiding the border queues ( would not have wanted to be on a coach). Lovely to see the countryside and three towns. Great recommendation for a late lunch.
This was an absolutely amazing day trip from Dubrovnik. The best part was Zack! He was very knowledgeable and really made our day! He knew all the best places to stop, and was just a great guide and person! He knew everyone, the other drivers, border control and made it a great day! Kotor was beautiful. We never felt rushed and we would definitely do it again! The town is beautiful. Very picturesque!
This review is for the Elaphite Islands tour with Robert. This island -hopping tour is a must-do to easily explore nearby islands! Our guides were Ante, Robert, and Ivica and they were absolutely great! We got lucky and only had a few others on the tour with us. Making it an even more memorable experience! The islands were all beautiful! But there is one, either 2nd or 3rd, where they give you the option to either walk or pay to go to the other side of the island. But I wouldn't recommend going to the other side. The side you dock at is cleaner and MUCH MORE beautiful than the other side. When it came time to eat, the chicken and fish were both AMAZING!!! Ante was a chef for 3 years and the taste of the food definitely showed his skills! Throughout the entire tour, Robert taught me so many new things! So much history about the place! And so many amazingly unbelievable stories! This was definitely an unforgettable tour and I'd highly recommend booking it! I hope your tour guides are as great as ours were! Thank you again! Robert, Ante, and Ivica!
This was a great way to essentially see the high points of the whole country in one day. All the stops had something to offer and our driver and guide, Robert, offered interesting historical and cultural information. The plus is that he knew the borders well enough that we got through quickly in what could have been very long lines by his timing and choosing the best border crossing.
Great experience! Theo told us about each city as we drove, the car was really nice, and the information was great and abundant! Good food in Perast, and recommendations in general! I would recommend!!
It is long day, beautiful scenery and a guide with knowledge of the area is great. Tony really explained a lot of Montenegro history.
Montenegro was beautiful and we saw the sights we were most interested in. However the border control for passport checks was very sporadic with some waits as long as hours to get through and others in less than an hour. Be prepared for a long wait and be happy if it’s less than a couple of hours.
First of all the guide denied point blank on Budva which is mentioned in itinerary! He told it was a printing mistake from Viator! He said all negatives of Budva , it is a night city, it is windy , it is crowded blah blah blah and finally demanded 65 euro per head for Budva. His only aim was to bring us back to Dubrovnik by 5.30 and going to Budva will make it 8pm! He dropped us off at a very long distance in Kotor and we had to walk 1 km both ways , he cited some weird , unheard dropping off rules of Montenegro police! Well other cars were dropping passengers near the gate! In boating to Lady of rocks he denied citing wind and non availability of boat ! well it was windy but we had to find our own boat and ride, which was readily available for us. Matko lacked warmth of a guide! We would request Viator to refund us the Budva fair, which was incomplete! The trip left a bad taste ! I won’t blame Viator, as I have had numerous trips, got to blame the local tour operator!
We are a family of 4 and enjoyed a great trip with Tony. He was amazing very patient and knowledgeable took us through a alternative border crossing to Montenegro that was not busy. It's great to travel with a local. Saved us a lot of time. I recommend Tony he was flexible and patient at no time felt rushed.
Spectacular drive around Lake Skador with mountains rising from the lake .Perast is first stop beautiful for swim but did not happen as driver did not follow the itinerary . Told had to go to church on island ( with respect not worth journey out there plus charged more . Kotor lovely walled city .The driver was not a guide and shared nothing about the country . Tried to change itinerary re Kotor lunch and Budva and was not happy when we asked to keep to it ..Have booked through Viator all over the world and never had this issue before . Have emailed separately and hope to get a reply .. This ruined what otherwise would have been a fabulous day .
Get Ivan!! He was from Dubrovnik and he was wonderful!! He knew the routes to get hey the heavy traffic the best places to eat!! Absolutely great!!
Montenegro was very beautiful. The towns are crowded depending on day of the week the cruise ships are in. Most importantly our trip was fantastic because of our driver, Zach. He was knowledgeable about everything, kind and you can see he had friends all up and down the coast( other drivers, at the boarder patrol, restaurants, police, etc). At the border going in and out of Montenegro. It is not well runned and super slow. At the end of the trip, I pointed out to Zach that the door was scratched and the scratch was not there before our last stop. He made phone calls to the company he was employed at and they did not help him out I even tried to talk to the company on the phone as well. . Zack also tried to get the parking attendant to look at the car and he refused to get out of his booth. I felt bad that no one was helping him and seemed to blame him for the scratch. Zack mentioned that it was his last drive which is sad because he was an incredible person and the company is loosing an amazing driver and person.
Although it’s a long day, it’s totally worth seeing these beautiful towns in Montenegro. The scenery is stunning. Our driver Milko was knowledgeable, prompt, friendly, and accommodating.
We had a wonderful and full day in Montenegro. Our guide/driver was Milko and he was fabulous. He got off the main road in Croatia and took a secondary, less traveled road to avoid the back up at the border crossing. He was very knowledgeable about the history and culture of both Croatia and Montenegro. He went above and beyond to personalize our trip based on our desires. We stopped at a wonderful restaurant on the way to Perast. We enjoyed walking around Kotor. Milko took us high above the Bay of Kotor for a panoramic view/photo op. Before heading back to Dubrovnik we stopped at Savina Winery for a wine tasting experience. We highly recommend this tour and our guide Milko.
Trying to get a day in Montenegro before heading home after a 7-day tour in Croatia, we booked this tour. Our only real complaint was that the advertisement for the tour placed on Trip Advisor stated that "local guides" (plural) would take us through the history. So we were expecting to meet up with local guides in the little towns to which we were taken. This was our enticement for the relatively high price of the tour. But there were no local guides and we were left on our own. Our driver, who was very skilled, had all the contacts to help us have a wine-tasting and get out to see the Lady of the Rocks. He definitely added to our tour by taking us to the Kotor Cable Car, also known as the Kotor–Lovćen Cable Car, which, according to the internet, is Montenegro’s premier gondola experience, connecting the lower Dub Station to the upper Kuk Station on Mount Lovćen at 1,348 meters above sea level. (And it was amazing!)
We did the Private Montenegro Day Trip from Dubrovnik and loved it. Our guide Matco was extremely knowledgeable about the history of Croatia and Montenegro, and we really enjoyed his perspectives — we learned so much more than we would have on our own. The scenery, especially the Bay of Kotor and Perast, was spectacular. One honest tip: the Croatia–Montenegro border crossing was very slow and time-consuming, so plan for delays. It’s no fault of the guide, just the reality in peak season. A memorable day with a fantastic guide — just go in prepared for the border wait. Highly recommended
The guide was very friendly but the tour is too much in the bus. We got out very early but still caught too much people in the border so we had to wait 4 hours (2 each time) of the day in a line to get out or get in of Croatia. The tour didn't warn before hand so we were not prepared (with books or food) for the waiting. 3h in kotor is also too small of a stop in such a beautyful place sinco 1h is for luch. Both the driver and the guide were very friendly and thoutghful and we are greatfull for that
It was a full day with several stops each one with plenty of time to explore. Robert, our driver and tour guide was so full of facts and knowledge. It made the trip that so enjoyable.
We had a fabulous private day trip to Montenegro with Dragon. He was a very knowledgeable and gracious host and I highly recommend him for your time in the area. He is just full of facts and interesting stories!
it was a day trip to montenegro - and our e i pi patience was amazing !
Exceptional driver and great points of interest. Options to stretch legs Favorite stop was Perast and Kotor.
Most enjoyable. We would highly recommend doing this trip with Robert. He shared his knowledge and the history of the area in a friendly, informative and amusing way making it easy to hear and understand.
I think for what we paid it was a rip off. The guide talked in the journey but then just drops you off to a pick up then gives you a rigid timeframe to be back. You literally do the tour of Kotor yourself. We were slightly late by 5 mins then the mood totally changed for the rest of the trip. I think you are better off going on a scheduled group tour for 1/4 of the price
We booked a private tour to Montenegro with a driver and sight seeing on our own with no guide. Our driver, Matko was great. He offered lots of historical and geographical information of the area. His communication skills were really good and he was very friendly. Matko gave some great suggestions when there were issues locally meaning we would have had difficulty getting to and seeing some of the places on the original itinerary. He asked what our interests and dietary requirements were and recommended somewhere that was renowned for its seafood for our lunch in Perast. The restaurant was a beautiful historical building that had been a working mill. Also, as there was a local car race in Kotor, the road to the cable car was closed so he suggested a wine tasting and trip to a boutique vineyard, Savina where we had spectacular views, amazing grazing platter and tastings of their 3 main wine offerings and a sample of Grappa at the end. Yelina was the hostess for our tour and sampling and she was so delightful, explaining the history of the vineyard, showing us around and organising the tastings. Absolutely amazing winery. The whole day was remarkable, Montenegro was a beautiful country, friendly people, interesting historical places and overall a relaxing and informative day.
1) we requested a guide and driver with English skills, that didn’t happen so ensure you get a driver and guide with English skills. 2) be aware that the boarder crossing in both directions is very time consuming 3) also disappointed there was miles and miles of road construction. It would have been nice for via tour to prepare us and an also alternative route A good tour company would have ensured these things given the price we paid. Very disappointing
Milka the tour guide was great and he had great information and was very informative
Joel our driver & guide was great. Came on time, was responsive and itinerary was exactly as listed. Great experience. Best to do private as all activities are individual preference and border crossing (twice) in a bus can be painfully long and ruin the experience
Great experience. Our driver was Ivan. He was so friendly and knowledgable. Would definitely recommend this experience.
The day trip was great. Draven was an excellent guide and made sure we all had a great day. His vast knowledge of the area was very valuable and he made sure we all enjoyed our trip.
Robert was an amazing driver and tour guide, he had a lot of stories to tell us. He was friendly, approachable and we would highly recommend a tour with him!
Everything was five star- the vehicle, our driver and the itinerary. We enjoyed our day trip to Montenegro.
Absolutely fantastic, beyond all expectations!
Deo was amazing.! Safe driver, extremely knowledgeable about all the region. Learned a lot and he pointed out all the great sites.
Incredibly beautiful scenery. We went during winter, so there was no traffic - not even at the borders. Zach was an excellent driver and guide.
