We took a day trip from Croatia to Montenegro, and it turned out to be a really lovely day — warm, relaxed and filled with interesting stops along the way. The boat ride was a great addition and offered a completely different perspective of the coastline. It was peak season, so there were plenty of tourists around, but we still managed to find a nice spot for lunch. All in all, it was a spontaneous day filled with sunshine, beautiful views and little discoveries along the way.

Itinerary
You will be picked from your hotel (or pick up point) in Dubrovnik and then enjoy the tour in a new Mercedes, air-conditioned minibus with an English/Spanish speaking guide. Once you arrive at the Croatian-Montenegro border, you will need to be sure you have your passport with you.
You will arrive in Kotor around noon. Kotor is located in a dramatic and secluded Mediterranean Bay (at the head of southern Europe's deepest fjord), and it is one of Montenegro's most picturesque cities. For centuries, it has been a crossroads of commercial roads under the strong influence of Venice. It is protected by mountains with a strong defense structure built during the time of Byzantine Empire. You can start wandering through Stari Grad (Old Town) and exploring its cobbled lane ways and atmospheric squares.
Your next stop is Perast, the ancient village. It is rich in Venice-like architecture which includes sixteen Baroque palaces, seventeen Catholic churches, several important Orthodox structures, and a series of nine defensive towers. The highlights are twin islands of St George and Our Lady of the Rocks. Both are religious pilgrimage sites.
This tour includes a boat ride to Our Lady of the Rocks, which was artificially created in the 15th century around a rock where an image of the Madonna was found. Every year on July 22, the locals row over with stones to continue the task.
Kotor is surrounded by lofty mountains which peer over its Bay of Kotor, Europe's southernmost fjord. As the Mediterranean's only fjord, this bay was added to the list of the twenty five most beautiful bays in July 2000. Once you cross the border, enjoy a panoramic drive around the Bay of Kotor. Boka Kotorska will fascinate you. It looks as if the mountains have cracked and let the sea in. This is the southernmost fjord in Europe. The bay is all natural. Admire its beautiful small towns as treasuries of history, art, and beauty, that are strung like pearls on its coastline.
You can start wandering through Stari Grad (Old Town) and exploring its cobbled lane ways and atmospheric squares. Visit St. Tryphon Cathedral. The Old Town is included in UNESCO Natural and Cultural list. You will have 2 hours free time to experience the allure of this beautiful town.

Montenegro is a great day trip from DBV and we enjoyed the sites. I give 3 stars bc our tour guide was quite rude. She never introduced herself so not sure of name, but she had issues with multiple parties. My personal experience was during the break in Kotor, the WC at the restaurant we chose had urine all over the floor & was unusable. I couldn't find a public WC, & I even went to a diff restaurant that wouldn't allow WC access unless you sat down and obtained a receipt. Anyways, after the break we asked when the next opportunity to use the WC would be, and the guide got vocally agitated, saying "you people have terrible time management skills" and "I deal with this every single day!" I didn't even ask her to wait for me to go, I was simply asking for the next opportunity, and it's frankly not my fault if other people ask for the bathroom too. And mind you, this is a completely new and unfamiliar city to me. I told her there's no need to get angry and she responded that she was "just being direct, which (I) wasn't used to," though her tone said otherwise. She berated me in front of our entire group and proceeded to do the same with 2 other parties. My opinion is that if there aren't adequate restroom breaks/access to restrooms, and if you are not leaving a bit of breathing room for guest error, it is a very poorly planned trip. She berated one party for arriving slightly late, and while I think punctuality is of great importance, it's highly unprofessional to yell in front of other guests for a few minutes of tardiness. It's unrealistic to expect perfection out of a big group of dozens of people, and if that frustrates you, then perhaps you're in the wrong line of work.
Filip was very energetic, knowledgeable and personable. He is very hard working and had Amazing connections to get us in and out of we high traffic area(s). We highly recommend Filip for your tour….
Loved how the guide kept us on time. Good value. Loved the location and the boat ride. Liked the guide’s sense of humor.
Would not recommend this tour, super scammy. If I were to do this over again, I’d recommend just booking a Flixbus in to Kotor and back so you can spend a longer day there. Our tour guide Niko was a subtle scam artist. We start by stopping in Perast where he peer pressures everyone to get into a boat owned by his friend to go to the Our lady of the rocks island for 10 euros per person. Not worth it and he’s definitely getting a cut from his boat friend. Then we ushers everyone to a restaraunt, more intense peer pressure to eat there and get their almond cake and pomegranate wine. Overpriced, and there too he’s definitely getting a cut. Perast has very little going on and is honestly worth skipping. Too long spent there. Then back on the bus where Niko starts hyping up the next restaurant and how everyone will get a free drink and free dessert and you should not leave the group until you get the map but the map will be given at the restaurant. Poor tourists were falling for it, but he’s scamming you left and right. If you choose to go off from the group and explore on your own he treats you different. Kotor, only 2-3 hours is not enough. And then the ride back is the same way you come from. No stops for viewpoints or pictures. They tell you just to sleep on the way back. Not worth it for the price you pay. It’s basically you’re just paying for transit to and from Kotor with not enough time spent there.
We booked a day trip to Kotor from one of the stalls in Dubrovnik Old Town on the promise that this was a small tour and that all costs were covered. Alas, the day of the tour, our names were not on the list for the small mini-bus, but the large coach. Then we are told that tourist city taxes were still due. Feel scammed as we didn't get what we agreed and paid for. Beware - maybe better off booking the large tour online for a much cheaper rate! The tour itself was also rushed, always a feeling of "hurry up", "don't be late" etc. Whilst this may be true and time should be observed, that sets a rather poor tune.
A very scenic drive to Montenegro from Dubrovnik. I must warn people that a one hour delay at the border is quite nornal, although you don't normally need to leave the bus. It was a change of scenery, but as you visit old Kotor, it is very tourist oriented, so prices are inflated. Unfortunately, you normally wouldn't visit the newer part where the locals would usually shop - so prices , being non EU are cheaper. To be honest, I found that Dubrovnik had more to offer.
Breath taking views and the guide is so nice. I would recommend 100. The journey to Montenegro was so short.
The guide for the bus was amazing and made the trip. She gave 110%. The local one in Kotor was really hard to understand and hear, somewhat a waste and left halfway through. Would suggest to drop off the main group in Old Town first, we were sitting on the bus waiting for individuals to get dropped off who were only 5/10 minutes from the main point.
I booked a tour with a van up to 18 people. What I received is a tour with a bus and 47 people. Waited a couple hours at the border. Was over 12 hr tour vs 10. Unacceptable
Beautiful views!!! We Loved the boat ride. The instructions to meet the bus in Kotor were not great. The private tour guide in Kotor was wonderful!
The tour was fine overall, but several things made it less enjoyable than expected. Our guide was friendly enough and knowledgeable, but not especially engaging or memorable. Being on a big bus means a lot of waiting around for people, and with some running late, our time at certain stops kept getting cut short. The boat portion was also a disappointment. It was a small boat, packed tightly with people, making it uncomfortable and not the relaxing ride we were hoping for. We were told items could be left on the bus, but even an unopened water bottle I left in the seat pocket was thrown away. The schedule also created some hassles—after shopping in Kotor Old Town, we had to bring purchases onto the boat since there was no chance to drop them back on the bus. Another frustration was how information was handled. After a two-hour bus ride, the guide waited until we were standing in the hot sun to ask each person to take photos of her phone with recommendations. When someone asked a question, she snapped “can’t you read?!”—which came across as pretty rude. It would have been so much more helpful (and considerate) to do this while we were on the bus. Crowds in Kotor Old Town were overwhelming (not the company’s fault, but something to be mindful of). The itinerary also changed—our booking said Perast first, then boat, then Kotor—but we did the reverse. I can’t help but wonder if sticking to the original order might have avoided some of the timing and comfort issues. Overall, the sights themselves are worth seeing, but the logistics and experience of this tour left a lot to be desired.
This was a nice tour. This time of year places do get crowded. Kotor Old Town and especially Lady of the Rock were so busy with travelers, considering the Lady of the Rock is such a tiny island. One suggestion would he to allow future travelers with strollers to let use the stroller while in Kotor and off the bus. It was a super hot day and we were told to leave the stroller on the bus. Kotor is flat and super walkable and I saw lots of people with strollers. We had our infant in a carrier who got overheated that day. The only issue would have been on the boat but even there I think we could have found a place to store the folded stroller, or just skip the island and stay with a driver.
The trip was amazing. The guide was so knowledgeable and gave us so much information on Montenegro and its history. The guide even decided to inverse the itinerary to avoid the crowds allowing us to have each stops with barely any crowds. We highly recommend this trip!
Kotor Bay is simply stunning, one of the most beautiful places on the planet for sure. Would recommend a private tour over the bus if traveling with the family or friends. It’s easier and faster for sure and gives you more freedom. Also the tour guide in Kotor was mediocre at best and unless you were standing just next to her you could hear much with 40-45 people in the group. Audio guides would be definitely helpful.
The description of the trip doesn’t match up to what we got to actually do. It definitely wasn’t worth the 12 hour trip, could’ve spent it in Croatia instead! Majority of the trip, you’re on different forms of transportation! Not much to see overall! Also, upon booking or confirmation I was never informed of a 6 euro tourist tax that I would need to pay on the bus. I was then told I could exchange usd for euros when we get to our 3rd stop. And when we got to our 3rd stop, all the banks said they either don’t exchange or were done exchanging for the day. We were given the run around and it was very frustrating especially walking around wasting our time in the blazing heat!
A wonderful place to visit. Tour was great including a boat ride to break up the bus trip. Boarder crossing took a long time (~1 hr)
Lovely day trip. Our guide Karmela was fantastic and the coach comfortable. A bit hot at the time of the year but still a great experience.
As far as transportation from point A to point B and back again, this is a great way to see Kotor and Perast. However, this tour is seriously lacking organization and enthusiastic and communicative guides/organizers. The two guides that were associated with the tour company couldn’t have been more uninterested in the tour— they didn’t share any knowledge about Montenegro/the cities we were visiting outside of an odd, repetitive script from Wikipedia (one could guess) that didn’t really add anything at all. They were also unable to communicate important information relative to meeting points/times and procedural information to members of the group and everyone was incredibly confused. In regards to the border crossing, it is what it is, and it takes a long time. It probably took us an hour leaving Croatia and an hour and half returning to Croatia, which is obviously beyond the control of the tour, however, no information on border crossing or how long the passport control might take (or any other portion of the drive really) or what the procedure was going to be was shared with the group at any point. This was frustrating given how long we spent at the border both ways. The towns of Kotor and Perast are definitely worth visiting and are wonderful, and the local guide (Lydia) was really nice and gave great commentary along the tour in Perast and Kotor, however we had to abandon the large group tour in Kotor because in a group of 45 people if you’re not right next to the guide in a town with narrow streets and tons of people already, you’re unable to hear anything she was saying. The tour company could remedy this by providing audio devices like many other tours do. Next time, I would find a different tour with better organization and communication and with more enthusiastic guides to learn about a new and beautiful country.
TJ and the driver did a great job. Also, our local guide at Kotor was great. The whole trip experience was really good.
The driver and Tour guide Josh was very informative and funny to make it more interesting, but was surprised that he was doing both, would be better if you had a guide doing just that to be fair. But we really enjoyed the experience 😊 Peter and Ildi
Marin who sold us the tour in old town dubrovnik was very informative and answered all our questions prior to booking. He arranged the pick up and drop off from Milni for us and passed on we had a birthday in the group. Our tour guide Sandra on the day was so knowledgeable and caring. She had a hotspot for internet access with her as our phones didnt work. Overall it was lovely day and would recommend.
Booked the smaller van max 18 people more money, and was placed on huge bus instead. No talk of a refund in price. Guide was good with lots of information, local guide spoke softly and could not hear her over the crowd noise so we just went on our own.
There's a little confusion with pickup times/places when you book compared to when you're contacted before the trip (it changes slightly) but it all worked fine in the end. Carmella, our guide, was a delight - how she kept the positive energy up through the day (when many people were not at the pickup point etc) I don't know, but she deserves a raise. The trip was nice, we enjoyed Perast, which is very pretty and the trip to Our Lady of the Rock was fine (we didn't go into the church as it was rammed with people and we only had 20 minutes, so it all seems a bit pointless) but I could have done without the hour+ boat ride after that to Kotor, where we were all crammed into a small, covered, baking hot boat. I'd rather have been on the coach. Kotor was beautiful but there wasn't enough time there - we actually ditched the guided tour (as it was going to take almost an hour out of less than three hours we had there) and it still wasn't enough time. We'd have liked to have seen/done more than we were able to - A trip to just Kotor and more time there would be better. Beware of the border crossing times, they're notoriously bad. Thankfully on the way out it was only about an hour but on the way back we were stuck for 2 hours and apparently in the height of summer it can be 3+ - our driver told us he once got stuck there for 9 hours! It's worth checking the current times/situation before you book.
The trip itself was good but the communication from the tour leaders was poor. Although it says gratuities etc. aren't included, it wasn't made clear at tax was due. We had a guide from Perast to Kotor which was great to learn more about Montenegro. There was no information when we boarded the coach about time to each destination etc. One of our guides read out facts from Wikipedia about Montenegro (pointless) on the journey. We sat at passport control for the best part of an hour on the way back which is not in their control, but a quick 'it can take x amount of time' or similar would have been appreciated. No info either on the return drop offs Seemed like our leaders didn't really know what they were doing. Overall,a good tour and a nice amount of time in each place. Good value.
This is a great day out with amazing sights and places to visit. Tour guides and driver were brilliant and looked after everyone on the trip. Thank you.
Local guide for Perast was fantastic! Would have enjoyed 20-30 minutes more in Perast to enjoy a local cake and coffee that was built up by the guide. Views were stunning- even on a cloudy day. Small bus was comfortable and Andrea made sure everyone was comfortable and accounted for after each stop.
The tour was so amazing. The guide was so nice and informative. Montengro/Kotor/Perast was breathtaking. Highly recommend this tour!
Bay of kotor is very beautiful in the morning. And this trip is not value for the money compared to Mostar trip.
The journey to Montenegro was as expected, we stopped just after the border for coffee after an early start. Perast was beautiful and the boat trip to Lady of the Rock and Kotor was smooth. Although 2 hours free time in Kotor would have been enough as it’s quite small. Our guide, Rosa was friendly, efficient and informative. The only reason for 4 stars was the 2 hour delay we had at the border returning due to closed roads and the Easter traffic which would make us think twice on booking trips with a border crossing in future.
A very nice trip to Montenegro. The boat ride was not choppy, so if you have motion sickness issues, no problem!
It was a long and pleasant day to Kotor and luckily it did not rain but was overcast. The lineups at the border were not too long. The driver was excellent but unfortunately we found the guide very difficult to understand and it seemed she was learning. I feel that a little more information should have been given of what to expect. I thought the itinerary could be relied on. We stopped right after the border crossing for a 15 minute break which was good. Later we were asked to pay a 3 euro tax which I thought should also have been made clear at the start. While I have no objection at all to paying I just think a bit of explanation at the start would have been good. We then went straight to Kotor. We spent a lovely 3 hours wondering around and had time for a delicious pizza lunch. We met the guide and walked through a tunnel to the dock to board the boat to Our Lady of the Rock. It would have been good to know where we were going and what was happening but there was no explanation until later. We then went to Perast for 20 minutes (itinerary indicated 1 hour). I still would highly recommend the tour but just want those going to have some more insight to our actual experience as it was different from the itinerary.
Nice time. Lovely views. Not too long and not too short. Comfortable travel. Kotor old city is similar to Dubrovnik’s but has a charm all its own.
The van used was a new 18 seater. But, it was cramped and very very uncomfortable for such s long trip Next day went on a different trip on a 45 seater. That was very comfortable.
Comfortable coach, very good driver. Maria the tour guide was very informative. Despite the poor weather we still had a good day.
Amazing tour n time managmnt. Was informatove n comfrtable. Boat ride ro kotor and visit to laay of rocks was awsome. Luved the overall trip. Smooth driving and comfrtble vehicle
It's a nicely organised day trip with periodic stops. The guide was really well versed with the history of the places and helped us with options for food and things to explore. Accommodated our request to drop at our hotel on our way back.
We travelled on a comfortable car and with an informative tour guide. Nice and good time arragement to visit Perast and Kotor. May be it was an off season in Nov that not many cars passing through to Montenegro, every thing was going smoothly and no need to wait long. The boat ride was also great that was so relaxing to see the view. Lovely tour and must join!!
Kotor was amazing and really worth visiting, but the travel there and back was a bit of a nightmare on the coach. The coach was over 2 hours late picking us up due to an accident and we were left waiting in the 40C sunshine with no where to sit or take rest in the shade. Take supplies if doing in hot weather!
Very worth to ho although a bit long distance and slow custom clearance due to size of the group. Is a healing scenery and place. Water is clear and fresh air.
Our guide Sandra is wonderful took time to pick us up even we are out of the way. Very informative and funny. Give us time to explore but takes more than a day to cover everything.
Kotor Bay better than expected. It feels like i am in Venice Food recommended was delicious. October is a good month to be here, not crowded.
To know bay of kotor. It was very nice! We enjoyed to walk by that city. Also we visited island of rocks, charming! A highly recommended tour!
Was collected promptly at a bus stop close to my hotel, and off we went. Border crossing into Montenegro went smoothly, less than a half hour. Have your passport and three euros cash. The return border crossing into Dubrovnik took just under an hour. This is out of the tour company's control. Laura, our guide, kept everything streamlined and easy. Diana provided an excellent, brief walking tour in the old town of Kotor; very much appreciated to make the most of our free time in this stunning place. The 45-minute boat ride to Lady of the Rock Church was enchanting and beautiful. The day ended with a quick visit in Perast, just enough time to stroll the promenade with a rest for coffee and cream cake. The day was perfect and timed well. I can't imagine a better experience, especially for this price. Gorgeous, heavenly Kotor Bay! Thank you, Select!
We had a good day trip to Montenegro. Good value for money. The only issue is the wait to cross the border but it wasn’t the tour operator’s fault. They did their best to check on us and keep us comfortable.
A very well run tour and exceptional value for money. The day trip was a fantastic addition to our 5-day holiday in Dubrovnik. Boki and Sandra were very attentive, friendly and knowledgeable. Our tour guide in Kotor, Maja, was also very knowledgeable and friendly. Overall, this would be a tour I would recommend and was a highlight of our trip.
A great day out. We loved the energy of Montenegro. Sandra & Maja were quite friendly and good in their roles as guides. Kotor was lovely, would have been wonderful to have more time to visit to old town, as well as make our way up the mountain for the best views of the area. Our visit to the Lady of the Rocks was brief, but ok, as there were tonnes of people coming on and off frequently so it never felt as though we could rest in peace to fully take in the atmosphere of the special man made island. We’ll definitely go back to spend some proper time in Montenegro to take in all its beauty.
A long day but worth it. The crossing at the border took a bit of a time both ways but unfortunately cannot be helped. We enjoyed the boat trips to the island & to Kotor. There was a good mix of free time & guided tour in Kotor.
My confirmation email said 6:40 departure glad I was early as we left at 6:30. There was a quick toilet and coffee break before the border crossing which was needed by many. Our guide Sancha(?) have us a quick overview of Perast and the Lady on the Rocks church as we entered the area. We had about 30 min to see the small town before boarding a boat to the island. I’m the church there were several groups with earpieces which would have been so much better to see the things you are being told about as opposed to having to remember what you were told an hour ago. We took the little boat to Kotor 1 hr which was crowded but lovely. when we got there Sancha introduced us to another guide then left as the new guide showed us around. Again earpieces would have been helpful as it was difficult to hear unless you were right next to her. I missed most of it so I gave up and climbed to the fort! Oh My the view!!! When I got back down I wandered the old town and will google to learn more. On the way home the border crossing was not as quick 45-60min the guide and bus driver spend most of it outside the bus smoking. When she was handing the passports back to us I asked if we were going to stop for toilet. “You should have gone here while we were stopped”. Well I would have if I knew we could get off the bus. Fortunately it wasn’t long to get back to the hotel. My advice: Visit Montenegro it’s beautiful but Take a different company
Had a wonderful day exploring Perast and Kotor, good communication and was picked up not far from our hotel, lovely boat ride to lady of the rock and we got through customs quickly Olli our guide was excellent!👍
