I loved it! I was a surprise that there were two hikes. One was a little challenge but beautiful! Thomas and the driver were so kind. Thomas explained about the Check Republic and the different parts of the tour. I learnt a lot. The views were amazing and the forest and rocks were food for the soul. Thank you!

Itinerary
Embark on a captivating adventure through Saxon Switzerland National Park! Relax in our comfortable, air-conditioned minivan with direct hotel pick-up in Dresden. As we take a scenic drive along the dramatic Elbe Canyon towards the iconic Bastei Bridge, your guide will reveal the stories and secrets that make this region so unforgettable.
The highlight of the morning is the world-famous Bastei Bridge. From its vantage point high above the Elbe Canyon, you’ll enjoy panoramic views that are nothing short of spectacular — the perfect place to capture memories and photos to treasure.
Our adventure continues beyond the iconic Bastei Bridge to the magnificent Neurathen Fortress, a captivating sight nestled amidst the sandstone landscape. Prepare to be mesmerized by yet another stunning perspective of the Bastei Bridge, and the surrounding valley with forest theater. Neurathen Fortress offers more than just panoramas. We'll delve into the medieval era, exploring the remnants of the stronghold that once housed vigilant guards. But that's not all! Brace yourselves for a fascinating journey back in time as we uncover archaeological treasures dating back 100 million years, when the region was submerged beneath a vast sea.
After exploring Bastei Bridge and Neurathen Fortress, we'll embark on a scenic drive through the Elbe River Canyon to the Czech side of the National Park - Bohemian Switzerland. Our route will wind its way through charming villages like Bad Schandau and Hřensko, allowing you to soak up the beauty of the region's architecture. We'll also keep an eye out for the historical elevator to the observation tower, a Guinness World Record holder for being the oldest elevator of its kind. We'll also cruise by Pravčická Gate, a natural sandstone arch considered the iconic symbol of Bohemian Switzerland.
Now you need to recharge your batteries, so the next stop will be a traditional Czech and locally renowned restaurant. A rich "a la carte" lunch will be a welcome and well-deserved reward. Traditional Czech and international dishes are served (including vegetarian options). We highly recommend trying Czech beer, which is one of the best in the world. This restaurant is very popular with the locals and has the best reputation in Bohemian Switzerland. We are always very welcome at this restaurant and we have a pre-booked table in the best place that will be waiting for you ready before our arrival. In addition, we have an advantage over other guests in the kitchen, so the wait for food is significantly shorter.
Enjoy a peaceful boat ride along the Kamenice River, where towering sandstone walls and lush greenery create a fairytale setting. Your ferryman glides you through the narrow gorge and shares local legends along the way — an unforgettable highlight of the national park. Afterward, a short uphill hike brings you back, rewarded with beautiful forest views. (Note: the boat ride runs on our summer tours and is not available on winter tours.)
Immerse yourself in the labyrinth of the Tisá Rocks, a real filming location for The Chronicles of Narnia. A natural rock town of towering sandstone formations, narrow passages, hidden squares and mysterious corners — this is the most playful walk of the day, at an easy pace with plenty of room to explore and take photos.
After a day full of experiences in Bohemian and Saxon Switzerland, we drive comfortably back to Dresden, arriving at your hotel in the evening — with a camera full of photos and two national parks behind you.

Extremely good experience for a full day of discovery. We strongly recommend this tour. We are quite experienced travellers but this time wished just to relax and be brought around without thinking also to optimise the day. It worked perfectly. Barbora took care of us all day with passion and competence showing she really cared and loved her time with us.
It was amazing! The views were incredible and the guide was super nice and friendly . They picked us up in front of our hotel, and everything was very convenient.
We had the pleasure to be guided by Milan and Daniel. 2 very enthusiastic and kind guys who give us not only a great experience but also lots of information about the trip and places we went. We had alot of fun in our group I recommend this trip
Milan is a great driver and guide. Lucas was also very competent. Our lunch was AWESOME, as we ate with them both! Wear good hiking shoes and have fun!!
Daniel was our guide his English was very good and he was very kind. The hike was very intense for me but most of the group did great. It was a very steep incline for 15-30 minutes. The scenery was absolutely beautiful.
I highly recommend this tour. It was such a special day and a real highlight of my overseas trip. Milan & Dalibora were excellent and the national park was stunning. While I enjoyed all the museums, galleries and palaces I went to in my trip, getting out into such a beautiful unspoilt natural setting with such incredible views & history was something that I won’t forget. The river boat also was exceptional—and lots of fun—headed by a young guide who did a great job explaining the surrounding gorge area as well as keeping us entertained. And capped off by a beautiful lunch overlooking paddocks & mountains. It’s an easy drive over the border to Czechia from Dresden and well worth doing.
It was a nice break from all the cities I've been visiting. I did have leg/knee issue the night before and after reading the reviews, I opted out of the gorge/boat part. Glad I did as fully functional people had difficulty climbing out the steep incline! Barbara did a great job accommodating me and skipping the gorge. The guide didn't know very much other than what you could have freely read about on your own. Replied more times than not, "I don't really know". Driver was good and cheerful. It was expensive transportation mostly.
This truly was such a wonderful day. Milan & Dalibora were exceptional, friendly, informative & really made the day memorable. The sights we saw in Saxony Switzerland were incredible & every one of them was a highlight. The lunch was very good, with great views to the mountains. Milan was a great driver & Dalibora was a delight. I am very glad I did this tour - the Bastei Bridge, Riverboat Gorge & the Stone “Forest” was amazing 👌👌🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟.
Trip was awesome. Joseph was very energetic and knowledgable. Highly recommend it. Good source of exercise too!
It was an excellent escape from museum days in Dresden. The tour itself is well organized, everything on time, food was good. All as advertised. Our guide Daniel and driver-guide Vojta showed us the best places being very polite, helpful and just nice young gentlemen. Many thanks to Daniel and Vojta. From our experience: this tour is challenging for seniors( we are 71 and 73 yo). It was slippery on the way up and down. It took us half an our to get down to the river, and a little more time to go up the steep hill. We are glad we did it and are proud of ourselves. So if you are reasonably fit we absolutely recommend this tour
Make sure you’re up for a couple of challenging hikes and dress correctly—good, nonslip shoes, rain gear if that’s in the forecast (I can’t imagine doing the hikes we did, if it had been raining—it was already slippery in dry weather), wear layers if it gets too hot (it did for us). Be prepared for a long day. The scenery was beyond amazing—very beautiful and so worth the long day. The drive from Dresden to the Czech Republic was lovely, so much to see. Our first stop at the Bastei Bridge, was spectacular—indescribably breathtaking views. Our lunch was really good, great menu choices and much needed after the second stop, where we made the steep hike down to the river canyon for the boat ride and the exhausting (for us) trip back up. The next and final stop to the “sandstone park” was really interesting—the grounds were once an ancient sea and the resulting sandstone formations were so unique due to weathering and the passage of time. This place was also a bit of a hike, slippery due to sand, rocks and fallen leaves—need to be aware, but it’s a truly enjoyable and like nothing I’ve ever seen. Our guides, Barbara & Milan, were very friendly and informative—we were impressed at their knowledge desire to create a memorable trip for us.
It was perfect, I recommend this to everyone. A super chauffeur and guide who really take care of you and help you with everything. They make sure everyone feels included, and I always felt safe and comfortable. Not only were they professional, but also very friendly and approachable. Honestly, it felt more like traveling with friends than just a tour. We visited amazing places I loved every second of it. Even the drive between the places is so amazing and beautiful. If you're considering booking, don't hesitate - you won't regret it!
Andrea and Filip were wonderful guides who brought much history and natural beauty alive. Local cuisine was excellent!
Excellent guides who were very knowledgeable about the area, history and natural beauty. The geology was spectacular.
We had an amazing tour with Barbara and Daniel from SaxonTours today. We really recommend. A really Perfect Day. 😀👍. Enjoy😀.
Be prepared to do some tough hiking on this trip. The description does not state that there is some major hiking not suitable for people with mobility issues or health issues. For the adventurous and active hiker it's a great trip with amazing scenery - Andrea the tour guide is very knowledgeable and fun to be with - also the lunch was amazing!
Dalibora was a fantastic tour guide she shared all the culture and history throughout the tour and even made little stops if we had extra time to show us some other things. This tour was great!! Make sure you bring your hiking shoes !!!
Our guide Delibora was excellent. She shared a lot of relevant and intriguing information about the history of what we saw and what we passed on the way to and from each activity. She was warmly personal as well as professional. The man-made structures as well as the forests, natural rock areas and waterway were stunning. The boat ride was short but beautiful and peaceful. The hiking was wonderful—even our daughter who had recently sprained an ankle was able to go the distance, and Dali was gracious and helpful in that regard as well. We highly recommend this tour!
The landscape is magical. Our guide was very knowledgeable and very nice. She was accommodating to our requests and we truly appreciated her company. We did the private tour option which is a little more but well worth it.
We had a great time getting out of the city to see truly unique formations at Bastei Bridge. Our guide picked us up from our hotel and was friendly and informed! It was physically moderate-challenging so be prepared for lots of uneven steps up and down. Lovely boat ride gave a nice rest.
This is probably one of the nicest tours myself and my wife have been on in our European travels! The national parks and the hikes through the forest are extremely beautiful! The cherry on top is the traditional food and beer at the top of the mountain after the hike! I'd recommend this trip to anyone who is looking to do a scenic day trip, it's really great!
Milan and Jitka were awesome. Since they were from the Czech Republic, it was fun to learn about them and their country. The scenery was beautiful and they took care to pace the hiking to the needs of our group. It was more difficult then expected but even those with some mobility issues handled it well.
Get out of the city and touch the grass! This was a wonderful day out in nature. We felt very safe and well cared for. The walk is fairly rigorous, but you can set your own pace. Lunch was delicious and the views were incredible.
We had an amazing time! Went on 3 hikes and 1 boat ride. The driver was very kind and made sure we had enough snacks and drinks. The guide was very knowledgeable and allowed time for photos and to buy souvenirs. Really was an amazing time!
We were met by our guide Dalibora and driver Milan outside our flat and we had a marvellous day. Dalibora was delightful and engaging and Milan was so friendly and helpful and a really good driver! The Bastei bridge area is stunning and because we were in a small friendly group we could go at our own pace and take in the different view points of rock formations and river views. Then a walk through the woods accompanied by the song of chiffchaffs, woodpeckers and goldcrests. We walked along a gorge to a boat trip admiring the splendid formations from the water. Finally a really delicious meal at a local village restaurant. It was such a lovely day. Just make sure you have a reasonable level of fitness the walk down to the gorge and then back up the other side is quite stretching.
We were picked up at the hotel on the arranged time. The ride towards the first part of the walk went very smooth and fast, thanks to driver Milan! With some amazing people from HongKong we formed a group of 7 in total, which was a nice group size. We started the day with a nice walk over the Bastei bridge with amazing views everywhere around you. It was not very crowded and many beautiful pictures could be made. The walk itself was quite easy and at the end Milan drove us to the second walking point. The second part was a long walk down the hill towards a small gorge called the Kamenice Gorge. This part was quite difficult for some of the group. At the bottom, we arrived at the boat tour which took about 20minutes. To our opinion the boat tour could have been longer, but it was definitely worth it! It was beautiful and very peaceful. After this we had to climb up again, which was quite a climb for all of us. Once we made it back, it was time for lunch, which was very good, and afterwards Milan drove us to the final part of the walk. The third part of the walk was quite a climb as well and unfortunately two people of our group did not go all the way to the top. We were all tired but at the end the climb was worth it because the view at the top was incredible. After reaching the top and ofcourse taking some pictures, we went back down, which went way faster, and Milan drove us back to the hotel. We had an amazing time, took a lot of pictures and also learned so many things because of our guide Jitka. She knows a lot and was very enthousiastic! Thanks to both of you and also the people from Hongkong for this amazing day!
The tour is a one of a kind phenomenal experience. Milan Volf was kind, knowledgeable, fun, helpful, understanding and made our experience the best. We highly recommend this tour and Milan. It Will not disappoint.
Bit of a hiccup with the hotel collection, but once we were on the way the trip was very pleasant. The trip was not driving intensive like some other tours I have done, the longest bit of driving was maybe 45 minutes to 1 hour. The stops were beautiful and not rushed, we got to spend a good amount of time at each stop which made the experience more pleasurable. I'd recommend!
Our tour guide is great. The sites we saw were amazing. It is definitely challenging in terms of the elevation of the hikes and the length. But as long as you're relatively fit, you will not have any issue in completing it. The effort of the hikes and elevation were well worth the views.
This is our family's first time in Germany and this tour got us to places that we wouldn't have known we wanted to visit. Milan was the perfect guide: knowledgeable, friendly, and accommodating of our group's varied needs. The Bastei Bridge is much more than I expected: remains of a medieval armory amid a stunning Sandstone gorge. And the boat ride was too short, but a bit of fairyland while it lasted. Lunch was delectable and generous. Thanks for a lovely day!
Our tour guide was very accommodating . I would recommend sneakers . This was a great day with plenty of hiking and stairs :) Worth every step !
Wow, such an incredible day! Since it is a smaller group, it is more relaxed and easier to stay together. Plenty of time is given at each place and the beauty of the landscapes is breathtaking. Lunch was very tasty and the vans were great with waters and snacks given. Our guide was a historian and provided great background. My girlfriend and I had the best day and it is a must do in Dresden we think! Be ready for quite a bit of hiking and hills though
Amazing tour! Milan collected us at our house boat hotel (also recommended) in an air conditioned mini-van. We met other guests from the Netherlands, South Africa and the USA. A hike to Bastei Bridge was breath taking - not for the faint hearted as some of walks were a bit scary! Our guide Vitka was great - she gave us the history of the sandstone formations. Lunch was in the Kamenice Canyon in Czech Republic - again a long trek down the gorge for a boat ride. An excellent tour - but make sure to stay hydrated and to wear suitable clothing!
Wonderful experience with amazing views. Lunch was delicious and the view from the high point at the end was just spectacular.
We took this tour on a very hot day in Dresden. It provided the perfect relief from the heat. Milan picked us up in a very comfortable air conditioned van. He was very accommodating and provided waters and a snack as requested. Vitka was our tour guide and she explained our itinerary and provided a lot of history of the sites. The hike at Bastei was easy and the views were beautiful. We arrived early before the crowds and while the weather was a bit cooler. Then we went for a traditional lunch and a hike to the Kamenice Canyon for a boat ride. The entire day was thoroughly enjoyable and exactly what we wanted. We love being in nature and viewing history. We highly recommend this tour!
The view is amazing at both sites. The lunch menu is very well taken care of. Unfortunately in the discription of the tour is mentioned that they will provide snacks and water bottles. This did not happen, so keep in mind that you need to take your own water bottle with you!
I went on this trip with my husband and 11 month old. The tour guide was personable and provided information on the area and the sights. The views and hikes were beautiful and it was so convenient that we were picked up directly from our hotel. I highly recommend this trip and it was very do-able with a small child (moderate level hike and not too long).
What an amazing day! This may have been the best part of our entire vacation. We are traveling with our two teens and for all of you parents reading this…they didn’t complain at all! 😀 There was just the right amount of challenge to the hikes and the lunch was delicious. The views were breathtaking. Unfortunately the boat tour wasn’t an option (no fault of the tour guides - the park was temporarily closed) but we don’t feel like we missed out on anything.
My husband and I took this trip along with 4 people from Germany. Since we have been spending a lot of time in cities, it was a great day to enjoy the beautiful Saxon Switzerland area. We started with a visit to Bastei, which is breathtaking. After visiting all of the viewpoints, we drove to Czechia for a traditional lunch. We had our choice of the menu. The lunch was very plentiful and was quite good. Then we walked down a steep trail (well-marked with hand rails) for a ride on a boat through the Kamenice Gorge. While we all dreaded the climb back up, it wasn't as bad as we thought it would be, and my husband and I are in our 70's. Both Milan and our guide Jitka were super and provided a great experience! They both gave us personal attention and wanted us all to really enjoy ourselves, which we did!
The views of boulders and the river were breathtaking! Our tour guide, was great! Enjoyed the beautiful nature!
Our tour guide Joseph was phenomenal! So knowledgeable and also a lot of fun and very friendly! The walk to the boat ride was very challenging- 1.5 miles down mostly steep stairs and then same back up. I’m 60 and in average condition. I did it but had to rest many times on way back up. Very glad to have taken the Bastei Bridge tour and boat ride, even though very challenging.
Nice trip, very motivated and kind team. Happy to have booked with Saxon Tours! Also met some nice people in the tour group. I think it was the right call for us to book the tour instead of traveling on our own. It’s hard to know the local tracks as well as professional guides would :)) Tip: depending on your tour, bring some proper hiking shoes. I had mine with me and was glad I did as it had rained recently.
a wonderful day in beautiful natural scenery. Our guide had great knowledge about nature and historical monuments. We really liked the lunch. Just a wonderful day spent
During our trip to Bastei Bridge we enjoyed lots of beatuful views and tour on boats was also very nice and romantic. We were lucky we had great warm wheather although it was the end of October. Our guide Dalibora provided us a lot of useful information and she has great sense of humour. I really recommend this tour.
Both the guide and the tour were really lovely and we had a great time. Informative and great views. Pick up and drop off were really convenient. Highly recommend it.
Most beautiful part of this trail was Bastei Bridge. This amazing bridge was build in romantic era, and it is verry impresive. In Bastei bridge there is wonderful view to the surrounding area. Lunch in local restaurant was delicious. I tried traditional czech food and it was so tasty. Last part of this trip consisted from short trip on boats, with funny explanation about the names of surrounding rocks. Our was well informed and nice person. I really enjoyed this day. I definitely recomend it to others.
Both the driver and the tour guide were extremely accommodating and nice. We got picked up at the hotel with no trouble and we’re on or way through out the trip both the guide and driver were very friendly and informative all questions were answered. Would definitely recommend.
A great day out with my guide and driver. Both were very good and accommodating. Basted bridge is exceptional and the boat rides through the gorge were a nice way to see some beautiful scenery
Sturdy footwear, food was okay
