Had a great day seen Dar Es Salaam with my guide Mike. He knew a lot about the city and was happy to make up an itinerary as the day went on. I would highly recommend this tour.

Established in 1934 as a memorial museum dedicated to King George V, opened to the public as the National Museum in 1940 and expanded in 1963. The entry gate is located in Shaaban Robert Street; it houses many historical treasures the most important of which are the remains of the first humans “Paranthropus boisei” discovered by Dr. Louis Leakey at Olduvai Gorge. The museum also has a large colonial history section with Ethnographic displays include traditional crafts, head dresses, ornaments and musical instruments. Hunting and gathering, initiation rites, traditional healing and witchcraft are a few other themes; also on view are leather and bark clothing, and a wooden bicycle in working order.
Tingatinga Paintings are Tanzanian traditional paintings created using layers of bicycle paint representing physical features and landmarks drawn in a canvas material. Formerly they were locally drawn on Masonite and ceiling boards and later Canvases added using several layers of glossy enamel paint which turned its noticeable outlook brilliant, and very attractive representing local people’s activities, Landscape with its exotic animal. Bicycle paint is a good material to use on making clear, vibrant colored paintings that contain sharp contrasts and still gives the ability to work with shades surfaces. The name Tingatinga was derived from the founder of the painting style, a Tanzanian named Edward Said Tingatinga who passed away in 17th May 1972, he left behind his art flying his name to the world, a wife, two children (Daudi & Martina) and six painters who later taught many more other painters
It is located at the center of a roundabout between Samora Avenue and Maktaba Street, unveiled in 1927 to honor the African Soldiers who fought in the first World War and to the memory of the Native African Troops who fought, to the carriers who were the feet and the hands of the army, and to all men who fought, served, died for the King and the Country in the East Africa in World War 1”. The former statue was unveiled in 1911 to celebrate the Germans victory in 1888, represented Major Herman Von Wissmann, a German explorer and soldier, who became Governor of German East Africa in 1895. British entered Dar es Salaam in 1916 and removed this statue along with those of Karl Peters and Otto von Bismarck.

Among the chosen tribes, each display their home structure with houses built by natural materials to show the old life reality, inside each house you will find some of the equipment used including cooking stoves, pots, bowls, water cooling pot, spears & arrows for hunting, defensive & protection. Each house include rooms divisions and allocation to the family members accordingly. At each house information are provided in a well printed and laminated paper to give visitors more details about the customs of their people, lifestyle, and equipment discovered & used before the modern world. To-date there are still tribes in the rural areas who lives one hundred percent in their old ways of life. Under the big tree at the museum yard, a general traditional tribal dance performances take place daily, whenever there is demand.

Mike was an excellent guide who was kind and attentive to our interests and adjusted the tour to our interests. He was a very kind and intelligent person. We would highly recommend him to be our guide again and others would benefit from touring with him also. Easily 5*
I had a fantastic experience with Dove Adventure Tanzania on Dar es Salaam City Tour. Michael was an exceptional tour guide—knowledgeable and enthusiastic about sharing the history and attractions of Tanzania. He made the tour educational and enjoyable. I learned about the country's rich heritage while visiting amazing sites. Bryan, the driver, was excellent and kept everything smooth and safe. Michael also expertly navigated through heavy traffic ensuring I made it on time for my international flight. Highly recommend Dove Adventure Tanzania for anyone looking for a reliable and insightful tour experience!
They are cheating us. They took $500 from us. We went on their tour. But they took $100 from my friend. After taking it, when we returned home and wanted the dollars, they did not give us back the dollars. And they took more. They took more. Everyone be careful. Everyone be careful.
I booked the Dar es Salaam city tour. In the morning, I was picked up on time in the lobby of my hotel by the guide Chris. Everything went according to plan, and Chris shared a lot of interesting and insightful information about the city. We visited various museums and learned a lot about the local culture and history. Chris was very friendly, knowledgeable, and made the tour both fun and informative. Highly recommended!
Michael was an excellent and knowledgeable guide. I saw a significant part of Dar ea salaam and learned a lot about the history and culture of the area. The fish market was my highlight
Today Chris picked me up as arranged, in a lovely car. He was very pleasant and knowledgeable about everything local. He was especially helpful to me when i had camera issues. Coco beach was amazing as was the fish market and village museum. Thank you Chris.
Derick was my guide for the day long tour of Dar es Salaam. Derick was friendly, knowledgeable and professional. I got to see a lot of the city in a short time while learning some of its history. I’d definitely recommend it especially if it is your first time to this amazing city.
Very good Dar tour. The guide (Michael) was excellent and gave us great background. Visited the fish market, churches, shopping sights and more. Would definitely do it again! The best!
Excellent tour with a knowledgeable and friendly guide. My highlight: the fish market! Don’t miss it.
Michael is very professional, gave the good introduction of the city’s history; showed me the different parts of the city, like the center/ the market/ seaside. Various experience in an amazing day!
Anna was super responsive during the trip booking process when I had questions, and Michael the guide was extremely knowledgeable, helpful, kind, and patient. I had a wonderful time and highly recommend this tour!
We were fortunate to be the only 2 on this day trip of Dar es Salaam. Michael was so informative giving us incite into the history of the city and Nation. He added to our trip taking us to the Kariakoo Market, such a busy place. He went out of his way to assist us with bus and ferry tickets. All this and pick up and drop off at our hotel. Thank you Michael!!
My wife and I were pleased with our city tour of Dar es Salaam. Communication with Dove Adventure Tanzania prior to our cruise arrival was easy and effective. Our group was warmly received at the cruise port and comfortably taken around the city, visiting some of the most emblematic sights, such as the Fish Market, National Museum of Tanzania and Village Museum. Towards the end, it was nice to stop at The Slipway waterfront to enjoy a few drinks next to the beach. Thanks to our guide, Mike, for providing valuable information and taking good care of the group.
I went on a tour of Dar Es Salam at the end of december. I booked it on a short notice and all communication were nice and efficient. The guide, Annanstancia, was extremely friendly and knowledgeable. I enjoyed every bit of it and she gave me a very positive first impression of Dar es Salaam and Tanzania. The guide was flexible and was really open to any question and discussion. The tour included some sightseeing by car (comfortable), museum visits and lunch. If you have some free time in Dar, i would 100% recommend this tour! Worth the time and money.
My wife and I had a wonderful City tour of Dar Es Salaam by Anna. She is so knowledgable and personable. We especially appreciated the personal insights she shared. And Chris, our driver, who is in training to be a guide, will soon be an excellent guide himself. Recommend highly.
I had a great experience with tour guide Anna. She was very knowledgeable and friendly and kind. We saw many sights of Dar Es Salaam. The highlights were the Village Museum, (Anna knew so many interesting details) and lunch at the top of Okemi restaurant overlooking the city.
Anna took us on a memorable tour of Dar Es salaam. Her knowledge of the place is impeccable. As a person, she is considerate and kind.... And probably those are the things that will remain with me more than the other stuff.
Had an amazing time with our tour of Dar es Salaam, our guides were outstanding. My favorite part was the national museum, learning about the history of Tanzania. Thank you for everything.
Interesting tour of Dar Es Salaam. Some parts of the tour (fish market, village museum) are more interesting than others (archives and pictures of first president in a modern hotel). Overall for a city the size of Dar es Salaam there is not much to see, and it’d be nice to choose what you really want to see and what you want to skip. But going through this tour operator (Dove) is probably still the best option. Driving a car in Dar would be crazy, and getting Uber or taxi to go from one place to another would be a logistical nightmare and probably more expensive at the end.
First of all, yes, Dar Es Salaam is worth visiting, and is not just a place to go right after to Zanzibar or to the Serengeti NP. It has this wonderful tour given by Anna, who will bring you across several historical monuments in DES and will show you around the National Museum and the Village Museum! She will even buy you a bottle of water and be mindful about the fun you will have in this underrated city in Africa. 100% worth it!
Of the many interesting things to see and do on this tour, I most enjoyed the Village Museum which brings together, in one place, examples of the diverse housing styles and living arrangement of the Tanzanian people. The visitor is able to learn so much about the county while enjoying a casual stroll around the grounds. An unexpected treat was a lively music and dance performance which we share with a large group of public school children. It was a lot of fun! Also, hats off to our guide and driver. They were patient, flexible, knowledgeable and kind. I could not ask for a better experience. Thanks Anna and Michael.
It was an amazing city tour! Anna is a wonderful guide, I got to experience Dar es Salaam in the best way because of her. I enjoyed seeing all the sites that we went to, as well as learning about the history and culture of the city and country.
Michael is an excellent guide. He was on time for our pick up and made sure we were comfortable. He’s also very accommodating to ensure we had a great day exploring Dar Es Salaam. If there’s is a point of interest on your list that isn’t included he will factor that in within reason. He’s very knowledgeable of Tanzania’s history. He helped make our day great! Lunch at the Waterfront was delicious. You will not be disappointed.
Very nice and interesting city tour. Highly recommended for all other Dar es Salaam visitors who, like me, arrive for the first time in their live in this beautiful city and have only 1 day free time for getting familiarized with this it. Our tour guide Ana attended us extremely friendly and gave us plenty of valuable inputs and information upon all kinds of subjects like history, culture, geography and many others more. It was a very pleasant and entertaining activity which enriched a lot my knowledge about Dar es Salaam and Tanzania in general.
Learning that Tanzanians fought in World War I…for Germany! Very interesting. I enjoyed the museums as well
Our guide Mike was so nice and explain any detail about the city, the price is a bit high for the planned activities but it was still a good few hours in dar es salaam with round trip to the airport included, perfect for our transit hours.
Dar es salaam Tanzania it is very amazing city tour and historical society and build, and business development city Tz.
Thank you very much to Michael who made me discover the city of Darra Salaam and its culture as well as to Annastancia who helped me plan everything.
Contact Dove Adventure on WhatsApp and book your day tour directly with them. It’s cheaper and it supports them directly instead of going thru the online agents. The guide picked me up at my hotel and dropped me back after the tour. The price includes museum entry fee and a bottle water. The guide drops you off at a restaurant for lunch and pick you up again after which you pay for yourself. I recommend the Slipway restaurant for lunch. The tour is a full day 9.00 to 5.00pm. Great sights and locations. You can also request to see the sights you want to see and you tell the guide. So make a list of sights you want to see and give it to your guide. The tour is all in English. The tour is worth the money. They do Airport transfers as well, so you feel safe at all times with Dove Adventure. A tip for the guide is always a wonderful way to end the tour. I enjoyed the tour so much, I would book my other tours and activities with Dove Adventure. For me safety was my biggest concern and going with Dove made it worthwhile.
A fantastic tour, Ana, although 32 weeks pregnant, was an exemplar guide, fun and highly communicative. Her knowledge of DAR and its people is well rounded to give each visitor the necessary information to understand the local culture and history. I had expectations but she simply surpassed them. I highly recommend Dove Adventure Tanzania, a terrific team of professionals with great customer skills.
This tour was exactly what we had hoped for! I can not say enough good things about this experience, but I will name a few. Anna customized our experience based on our interests which we loved. She helped us from the time we arrived in the airport until we left Dar es Salaam! Our flight was delayed and she waited patiently for us to arrive. She was holding a sign with our name on it so our arrival went smoothly. She also stayed in contact with us through WhatsApp the entire length of our stay, making sure we had everything we needed. She arranged transportation for us a few days after the tour which also was on time. The best part !! I am a collector of African masks. Anna took us to the perfect spot for buying these goods. She arranged shipment of these goods for me so I could travel to my next destination without carrying these items with me. If you are looking for a city tour based on exactly what you want, look no further. Traveling far from home can be overwhelming, Dove Adventures/Anna took that worry from me from the time I landed until the time I flew away. Thank you for a most unforgettable adventure Angel and Robin
This tour was absolutely amazing! Annie and Chris are the best guides of Dar. They are extremely kind and caring, and this tour literally shows you every cultural aspect there is to see in Dar. All the museums you visit are amazing, you learn a lot, and duration is just right because you have enough time for everything. Annie took me to a very nice restaurant where I had one of the best fish I've ever eaten, and also she helped me find some souvenirs I wanted (with the best prices in Dar!!!) This tour is the best thing you can do if you want to learn about Tanzanian history and discover Dar in a day!
I enjoyed the Dar es Salaam city tour with Anna and Maiko (I think XD). They provided me with lots of information of history and culture which is what i was expecting from a city tour. They are very polite and accomodating making you feel welcomed to their country. They showed me around the city and went to the National and Village museums. In the end, they drop me to a restaurant for a delicious lunch. I highly recommend this tour. :)
I had a long layover between my flights and thanks to Dove Adventure Tanzania I was able to use the time perfectly to see the beautiful city of Dar Es Salaam on a city tour. The staff are extremely friendly and professional. My wishes were integrated into the planning in a very flexible way. I was thrilled how much the guide knew about Dar and every question, no matter how detailed, was answered. As my flight took off in the middle of the night, I was allowed to store all my luggage in the Dove Adventure office during this time and was invited to spend time with them. Thank you for a wonderful time!
This is a great tour to capture the essence of the city, in a few hours. I booked at 12am - I was only in the city for a day- and to my surprise Jumbe answered promptly and my guide and a driver arrived at my hotel at 9am sharp in morning! Fabulous service to turn my request around in the middle of the night. Annastacia my guide for the day, provided a briefing of the historical locations, prior to setting off in the air conditioned car. I wasn’t interested in visiting all of the locations and Annastacia accommodated the places of interest that I did wish to see namely, the National Museum-very interesting cultural heritage artefacts, Mwenge Carving Market-lots of local artists and craftspeople selling their wares, the fish market - were the bartering and selling of fish brought fresh to the nearby shore by fisherman and the Village Museum-good examples of cultural homes from across Tanzania. I’d definitely recommend Annastacia as she is both a friendly and really knowledgable guide, answering my many questions /queries about the city, the country and even a little politics. A bottle of cold water is provided during the tour, you need to buy your own lunch at a restaurant at the The Waterfront - a worthwhile half day.
The tour was great. Anna, the tour guide, was very knowledgeable and the driver, Chris, also drove well. The visits to the National Museum and Village Museums were insightful.
It was great experience and very professional tour guide Sami💯👍🏾he explained everything in details and very good person! Great tour operator and organization!!! Thank you!
I contacted Dove Adventure with very short notice on the day that I had a 10 hour layover in Dar es Salaam and my original city tour operator cancelled the morning of. They were extremely accommodating and were able to set me up on a city tour that same day. I was transiting from Zanzibar back home and had a 10 hour layover in Dar that I wanted to take advantage of and explore the city. They picked me up in an air conditioned van from the airport, and took me around the city to explore until it was time for my flight home. They greeted me with water and a soda and a great list of things to do to take in the local culture in what little time I had. We went to the fish market as well as the national and village museums and then to a local market and dinner. Anna was great and knowledgeable, and made sure that I was always having a good time and answered any questions I had. Very professional, I highly recommend!
The tour was good. Booking with Annie was the best thing. She addressed all my queries promptly. She even gave assistance to repack and re-weigh my luggage as I had to adjust it to fly in the domestic airlines. Even after the trip, she even enquired about my Kilimanjaro trip which shows the caring attitude to their customers. My guide was Godfrey and he shared his knowledge of Tanzanian History and culture with me. That was good. Though I had limited time, I got to know an idea about the city. Since there was limited time, I could have spent less time for lunch - as there was a lot of waiting period. May be , this was something the guide could have suggested.
My family and I scheduled this excursion at the last minute. I am so glad we did. My driver Haroon and host Anastacia were wonderful. They were knowledgeable and very helpful. My group included 2 children, a 1 year old and a 6 year old. They assisted us by also helping with the children as if they were there own! This made such a difference and we were totally won over. Haroon and Anastacia your attention to detail makes both of you the best at customer service 5 stars!
This is a great tour especially for first time visitors to Dar es Salaam. Our guide Godfrey and the driver Harun were knowledgeable about the city's history, very friendly and even gave us some good recommendations for the rest of our stay. Would recommend.
A must for first time visitors. My tour guide Godfrey was awesome as he was passionate sharing the history of many historical landmarks throughout the city. My personal favorites were the museums, the Slipway Shopping Center, and the plethora of knowledge shared by Godfrey.
Had a wonderful experience and got to learn alot about the city and the different cultures in Tanzania... Overall great experience
Shurkuru, and Annastancia went above and beyond to make my excursion pleasant and fulfilling. They were well informed, and educated on Tanzanian's history... They spoke to vendors on my behalf when necessary, and attempted to teach me Swahili. I took up more of their time than was alloted, and they were so graceful as to not complain...I will recommend them to all my friends in the USA. Thank you both.
Getting to know the history of Tanzania and also the dance 👌👌👌 They said the tour is 6 hours but I think it took more time and they were very patience and willing to assist us with anything not just the tour.
Very professional and helpfull , the tour guide explain everything about the place with deep information Best prices
I have used Dove Adventure twice since moving to Tanzania - once for a very interesting and well run Dar es Salaam city tour (July 2020), as well as for a 1 week safari with one of their partner companies (November 2020). The service has been excellent and I can highly recommend them for many travel needs within Tanzania! Regards, Gavin
Booked at the last minute during my 7 days in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. Glad I selected Dove Adventure Tanzania for the City Tour. I truly had a great experience. The tour consisted of me and the guide, Mr. Lasway. Mr. Lasway was knowledgeable about the history of the areas visited, and made the experience to the Village Museum memorable and exciting. Throughout the tour he was very courteous and insightful. If I ever come back to Tanzania, I’d book again with Dove Adventure Tanzania!
Dove went above and beyond to make my time in Dar as seamless as possible. From arranging the airport transfers, to bank visits, to my mandatory covid test (oh the times we live in). They even went and waited 4 hours for the results so I wouldn't have to. He was extremely responsive and communicative and would arrange any service I needed. My driver was friendly, professional and very helpful. I would highly recommend this company.
