We spent three incredible days in Selous Game Reserve, where our knowledgeable guide, Endrick, made the experience unforgettable. We cruised the Rufiji River, spotting hippos, and a variety of water birds amidst lush vegetation. In the Miombo woodlands, we explored dense forests home to elephants, gnus, lions, zebras, leopards and wild dogs. After Selous, we spent two days in Mikumi National Park, enjoying the vast plains filled with elephants, giraffes, and lions. The diversity of wildlife and plant life in both reserves was awe-inspiring. The wonderful service and seamless tour arrangements made this journey truly exceptional, leaving us with lasting memories of Tanzania’s wilderness.

Our safari in Tanzania was truly unforgettable, thanks to our amazing guide, Juma. We began in Selous, where Juma’s expertise helped us spot zebras, elephants, lions, wild dogs, and hippos, followed by peaceful boat rides along the Rufiji River. Mikumi’s vast plains brought incredible encounters with lions, elephants, buffaloes, different antelope species and giraffes, while Ruaha’s rugged beauty offered unforgettable moments, including lion hunts and elephants crossing rivers. Juma’s passion, knowledge, and care made this experience extraordinary. If you're looking for a life-changing safari, we highly recommend Juma. It was an adventure we will cherish forever.
Our camping safari was an unforgettable adventure, fully immersed in nature. We camped under the stars, with Otto as our driver and guide, expertly navigating the park and showing us the best wildlife. Musa, our cook, prepared delicious meals over the campfire, adding to the authenticity of the experience. A highlight was a thrilling boating safari along the Rufiji River, where we saw hippos, and birdlife up close. The peaceful sounds of the bush surrounded us as we enjoyed each day. Evenings were spent around the campfire, reflecting on the day's adventures. The experience was a perfect blend of excitement and tranquility, leaving us with memories that will last a lifetime.
Selous is underrated as from our experience it has all the hallmarks of what it takes to rival Serengeti and Ngorongoro in terms of spectacular landscapes of both land and water, diversity of wildlife and birdlife found in the park and above all it well preserved and still pristine as its not been overly commercialized as a destination. Our time there with guide Musa was fascinating and so memorable. We enjoyed the game drives, both on land and along Rufiji River, we also did sport fishing and also went on a walking safari. I almost forgot to include the night safari that we did with an armed guard. We did a mix of camps and lodges, and it was really exciting to experience nature so intimately. Food was especially very tasty during the trip. If I were to change anything about this trip would be increase the number of days in Selous because it is a magical place. A huge thank you, to Rama and your team for the excellent time on the safari.
A totally amazing experience. This is definitely one of our best outings to Africa and I am happy that we chose the southern Tanzania parks because they are no crowds here. Juma was really great as a guide, well mannered, knowledgeable and very charming. He treated everyone with respect and my boys took to him immediately we met him in our hotel in Dar. The main difference of these parks from those in the northern circuit, is their pristine and unspoilt conditions. The animals are numerous and when you come across an interesting sight, there are no crowds. The lodges were vey nice with great service in absolutely stunning locations that are unbelievably beautiful.
We had the most incredible experience on safari in Tanzania. The safari was packed with interesting wildlife encounters in some of the most beautiful landscapes we have ever been to. Selous is different from the parks in the northern circuit. Its well preserved, has very ew visitors and has a wide variety of habitats in this huge reserve. We even did fishing and had a nice boat safari on the Rufiji River. Mikumi was also quite interesting with lots of wildlife and also characterized by low numbers of tourists. I would not do this trip justice if I do not mention our guide Ibrahim. He went out of his way to ensure that we enjoyed ourselves and also drove the safari jeep perfectly. I appreciate the great organization by Ramadhani the director Gecko for making sure everything was well planned for and also for the reasonable charges. I highly recommend Gecko Adventure Tanzania.
I wish we had done this trip earlier because it has been totally overwhelming and splendid beyond what we had imagined it to be. Mikumi and Selous are really beautiful, pristine and away from the crowds. We got to experience the wildlife and sceneries in their natural state without much interference from man. Otto is a seasoned guide who is great company and knowledgeable about the parks. He often knew where we would find the wildlife and being the rainy season the animals have migrated further from the rivers and water points. A boat ride along River Rufiji was awesome! We loved the accommodations, especially Rufiji River Lodge was special! Kudos to Ramadhan and Otto for the wonderful time
This trip to Tanzania has been an adventure of epic proportions and we have created wonderful memories that will last for a very long time. I will start with the outstanding quality of service from the moment we land in Julius Nyerere Airport in Dar. Our pcikup was timely and we were whisked to our hotel to rejuvenate after the long flight with 2 lay overs. Our guide Otto is a special one! So experienced as a safari guide and a wonderful person to be around. We instantly took to his warm personality and so knowledgeable on a diverse range of topic from wildlife, nature, history, culture, politics and life in general. He is a great driver who comfortably maneuvered the 4x4 Landcruiser through the roads and the parks. He went over and beyond to ensure that we were safe, comfortable and enjoying the trip. Wildlife encounters with Otto were much more than seeing them, he took his time to teach us about their habits, lifespan and so much about them. Otto's knowledge of the parks made the game drives interesting and fun as we could not run out nice things see. We appreciate the excellent lodges which made the experience awesome. We were particularly wowed by the Rufiji River Camp in Selous for its postcard beauty and top class service. We would definitely get used to this royalty treat
My family and friends have just returned home from an excellet trip to Selous and Mikumi National Park. We recommend booking a trip with Gecko Adventure Tanzania 100% and if you are lucky to be partnered with guide Otto, you are bound to enjoy the ride. Otto was amazing, very knowledgeable and passionate about Tanzania and conservation of the ecosystems. The surreal sunset at theend of our boat ride on river Rufiji with hippos in the water, elephants and giraffes on the shores. Game drives were action filled, Otto focused on finding all the animals that were on a wishlist. He also spotted lots of birdlife and being avid birdying enthuthiasts it was so thrilling. Overall the experience was 100% perfect and we loved it.
We had a remarkable safari experience thanks to our guide Otto and Rama who put it all together. Photos do not do justice to the experience. We had some amazing encounters with wildlife on the game drives and boat rides. We saw numerous different animals including elephants, hippos, lions, wild dogs, zebras, giraffes, cape buffalos, wildebeest, baboons and so much more. The trip was a flawless as everything flowed like clockwork. Rama had done all the work with lodge bookings, permits and activities. We really enjoyed the hot air balloon ride over the huge park. The boat safari was also special. Mikumi was amazing too. There is a wide variety of animals in the park. We've been to Tanzania before but this one was special. The parks are so well preserved and the number of visitors were fewer in comparison to those in the northern circuit. We enjoyed the beautiful trip to Tanzania immensely, thanks to the team from Gecko Adventure Tanzania. We will definitely be returning to Tanzania for another trip.
We booked a five day trip to Selous and Mikumi for our 10th anniversary with Gecko Tanzania Adventures. Rama created a bespoke private safari just as we wanted. We stayed at luxurious accommodation spots including Rufiji River Camp on the banks of Rufiji River Camp which was spectacular. Selous is a true rare gem. Hardly encountered any other visitors on the game drives, fishing and boat safari. Every place was stunning and the animals were in plenty. I believe that our guide Musa enhanced our safari in a big way. A very good driver and knowledgeable about the park. A novice would easily lose their way in the vast park. We got to experience the raw Africa with an expert guide while staying in a premier lodge. I will never forget the experience.
We have to commend Gecko Adventure Tanzania for an amazing trip to Selous and Mikumi. We had an incredible guide Musa with us who is not only an amazing driver who managed to get the 4x4 Landcruiser safely through all the tough spots. It rained sometimes. The boat ride along Rufiji river was phenomenal. There was plenty to see and we were spoiled for choice between the numerous birds, that Musa knew and the bountiful animals. Sleeping at Rufiji River Camp was a great experience of fine dining and comfortable lodging. Mikumi was amazing too, a great park with many animals. I highly recommend Gecko Adventure Tanzania for excellent services
Me and my wife travelled with Gecko for a 5-day safari, which happened to also be our first safari ever. It was definitely an amazing experience! Our guide Endrick was super knowledgeable, professional and just a really great guy to simply hang out with throughout the trip! Rama, the manager, was incredibly easy to communicate with and seems to really treat his team of guides well. The chef who accompanied us for our one night fly camping experience fried up some really delicious meals and even stayed up all night to keep us safe from hyenas, lions and other critters, which he honestly deserves a medal for :D The experiences chosen throughout the Safari were a perfect mix of relaxing and exciting. I would 100% recommend Gecko to any first-time safari goer and will definitely come back to them for future trips around Tanzania.
I travelled with my husband to Tanzania for an amazing adventure that took us to Selous and Ruaha. We had one of the most memorable adventures we have ever had in these hidden gems off the beaten path. I can still see the beautiful scenes of elephants feeding on Rufiji Riverbed as we explored on a boat - a must do activity in Selous. After Selous we flew to Ruaha by small aircraft to another great adventure. The number of animals along Ruaha River are numerous and it was really great. The giant baobabs make an incredible sight. I recommend Gecko Adventure Tanzania with 100% confidence that they are the best.
On short notice we decided to visit Tanzania. We had a very pleasant Journey. It was all arranged by Gecko adventures. Their safari guide is a realy cool guy who showed us the beautiful wildlife. But also the rest of the people we met were kind and helpfull, always willing tot answer questions of the curious wazungu acompanying them.
I went on a 5 days safari with my best friend. We saw 2 amazing parks Selous and Mikumi. Our first contact with Rama from the office of Gecko was very helpful and he took care of organizing us a fantastic safari. Our ride to the parks and between them wouldn't have been the same without our amazing guide, Gasto, who were professionnal, caring, attentive to make sure we were having our best time every day and we did ! We saw the reality of tanzanian life, diverses landscapes, amazing nature, during the many hours we spent driving between the 2 parks : a safari itself ! We really recommend Gecko Adventure if you plan to go on a safari
What an experience. Our guide Endrick was a fantastic tour guide. Everything was very well arranged. We are grateful for all the wonderful moments we have experienced.
Our safari with Gecko Adventure was great. Rama has organized the whole trip perfectly from start to finish. He managed to get us great deals at the three luxurious lodges where we stayed in Selous, Ruaha and Mikumi. We are very pleased with our safari guide - Simon, he was a fantastic companion throughout the safari and shared his great experience and knowledge. His interesting stories and warm personality complemented the beautiful landscapes and numerous encounters with wildlife. We've all seen Big Five and many other animals. I can highly recommend Gecko Adventures and would definitely go on safari with them again
Overall, the trip to Selous, Ruaha and Zanzibar was fantastic. We enjoyed traversing the different habitats of Tanzania with our driver. We started with Selous, where we did game tours and boat safaris along the Rufiji River. Then we head to Ruaha, which has numerous baobab trees, huge herds of buffalo and elephants and many lions along the Ruaha River. Zanzibar was the ultimate relaxation destination. We enjoyed the sun, the sand on the pristine beaches of Matemwe. Thank you Gecko Adventures for this wonderful trip.
My brothers and I decided to have ato do another safari, after we visited parks in the northern circuit in 2020 and we don't regret it. Our safari to Selous and Mikumi became a great adventure to explore the less traveled parks that are richly endowed with various attractions of terrestrial and aquatic animals. We did a mix of bush camping and lodges for the total wild experience. Our guide and his assistant were perfect and very experienced in organizing camping safaris. They showed us the parks very well and received us later in the evening at the camp. The camping equipment was great and the food was great too. I have nothing but praise for the entire Gecko Adventures team for a good piece of work
With Gecko Adventure Tanzania, derived by Rama, tranquility and reliability are the words just to write this beautiful and rich 5-day Safari. The quality of the driver and French-speaking guide with their 4x4 for us alone. They know how to find animals and know the reserves well. I strongly advise you this organization, we are in our 60s and lived unforgettable moments. It was my wife's dream... We would like to go back to enjoy it with friends.....After this Safari we spent 12 days in Zanzibar. The first week included in the trip and we took a few days to ourselves. Until the end we were followed. Hotels, airport, ferry each time transferred with punctuality...
