Tanzania was awesome and we are so happy with the safari experience in Selous. This park is different and is off the main tour circuit, which makes it more private with fewer guests which is odd because the unrivalled diversity of wildlife, both on land and in the waters along the Rufiji River. Everything was well planned with a spacious Landcruiser, great camping equipment, excellent food and some of the best clear skies for star gazing. We were lucky to chance on some from of meteor shower in one of the nights. Thank you, Rama, for the excellent plan and preparations and having Otto be our guide. He was awesome!

Upon arrival, check-in at Selous Tented Camp. In the late afternoon, go for an evening boat safari through the Rufiji River. This safari allows you to experience aquatic life, mostly crocodiles and hippos. You can see some animals come for drinking and you can also see an uncountable number of bird species since the reserve has over 440 species of birds, while enjoying an amazing reserve’s sunset. Back in the late evening for dinner and stay the night. Lunch and dinner are included.
You will take part in an afternoon boat safari along the mighty Rufiji River. Where you can see plenty of hippos, crocodiles and birdlife.
Day 2

You will have an early breakfast at 7:00 a.m., and then drive to the Selous Game Reserve. You will have a full-day game drive in a safari vehicle with a professional guide, in which you should see and learn much about a large number of animals, including all the great favorites, lion, elephant, giraffe, buffalo, zebra, and all the other major species including the rare African hunting dog. There will also be a great variety of bird species with wonderful scenery and varied topography: wetlands, dry grassland, light acacia forest, and higher ground with long views of far-off mountains. Enjoy your packed lunch and time to rest. Your guide will select a location with shade and water nearby to watch the animals coming to drink, a place with a clear view all round, so that no predator can creep up unseen.
After breakfast, proceed with a full game drive in Selous, Africa’s largest wildlife sanctuary, with an area of 54.600kms – bigger than Denmark and 4 times the size of Serengeti!.

You will arrive in the early evening, and Gecko Adventure Tanzania will take you back to the hotel or catch your flight back home. Breakfast and lunch are included.

We were happy to be reunited with our favourite guide Otto in Selous Tanzania. We did 5 days and still could not get enough of the incredible park. Camping in the bush made the experience so magical as we felt more closely connected with nature than if we had stayed in the lodges. The boat tours and fishing in Rufiji were excellent activities that supplemented the game drives and the walking tours. Camping was so much fun and intimate as we were the only people at the campsite. I was very impressed by the quality of the tents and equipment that we had with us. Food was great and the overall experience is so unique and well curated. It was safari as it was in the last century
My husband and I had great week of exploring the expansive Selous National Park with guide Otto of Gecko Adventure Tanzania. Otto made the tour fun and enjoyable as he knew all the right spots to visit and we rarely went for more than 15 minutes without something interesting to see. We also loved the boat trip on the Rufiji River where we had an awesome afternoon exploring the parts of the park that cannot be reached by car. There were numerous animals along and within the river. Camping was fun and added excitement and thrill of the overall experience. We will be doing this again soon.
We have been on couple of safaris to the other parts of Tanzania and finally we found a reliable operator to take us to Selous. Booking with Rama was smooth as he was there to advise and guide us all times. We flew from Dar to Selous and found Otto waiting for us. He is a charming guy, very professional and knows that park like his own backyard. We saw lots of different animals and we loved the low traffic. We were by ourselves most of the times which made the experience lovely. We stayed in a lovely lodge which was by the banks of Rufiji River. Time passed too quickly and we were sad to leave Tanzania.
Had we known how beautiful and pristine Selous is, we could have done this trip much earlier. We got to see numerous wildlife species and landscapes in the marshes and grasslands of Selous. We were lucky to have guide Malava accompany us. He made the trip fun with his excellent commentary and outstanding skills in tracking wildlife in the park. We loved the boat ride on Rufiji where the saw animals as we glided along the river. We are happy with the entire trip as it was well planned and the accommodation was really outstanding. We got to enjoy the diversity of Selous and Tanzania in earnest. I highly recommend this tour because Selous is really different and has not been commercialized as a destination and Gecko Adventure Tours did really well in organizing and executing it.
We spent an amazing three days in Selous with guide Otto of Gecko Adventure Tanzania. This trip was just perfect and we definitely could have wished for a longer stay if it were possible. Otto was fantastic, he knew Selous well and he took us to many lovely spots where we could enjoy the wildlife without any other traffic. We took a boating safari along the Rufiji and its definitely one of the most interesting and wonderful things that we did on this trip. We enjoyed watching the abundant wildlife from the water particularly elephants, giraffes, many water birds, hippos, antelopes and many other animals. The campsite was fun and we had a great atmosphere that excited us, particularly the story time after dinner by the open campfire under the open skies. Sleeping under canvas with wild animals roaming in the nearby was so thrilling! I strongly recommend this trip and this operator they are amazing. If you are lucky to get guide Otto on this trip, you will create memories that will last you forever!!
What a romantic trip to Tanzania. Rama spoiled us silly with absolute perfection and excellence of service. We had three fantastic days with Otto exploring the massive park and then camping in the bush. Moses the assistant and cook was help was invaluable. He was responsible for the meals, and camp duty. The overall experience exceeds the 5 stars possible. It was so exciting sleeping under canvas with wildlife roaming not so far off. The constant hoove sounds as the animals went for a drink, the occasional roar and hyenas laughter was the night music. We had such an outstanding experience and it was all possible because of the great team from Gecko Adventure Tanzania.
We actually spent seven days in Tanzania exploring Selous and we still did not complete exploring all the areas in this huge park. We had one of the best guides ever... Otto. He is simply amazing, a patient individual whose efforts were always geared to keeping us happy and fulfilled. This was our second time in Tanzania and with Gecko Adventure Tanzania. We came back to them because they are committed to excellence, great service and have really good guides in their stable. I wish had that we had done Selous much earlier because it offers exclusivity and privacy unlike the the parks in the Northern circuit. There was so much to see! so much wildlife, amazing landscapes, ethereal sunsets and the aura was just magical. It was like living off a story book. It was amazing as we loved everything about the safari.
We recently traveled to Tanzania with Gecko Adventure Tanzania and they were absolutely amazing. Rama created a bespoke itinerary just for us and made all the arrangements with the Rufiji River Camp and also organized for the boating safari and fishing excursion. We had guide Otto with us and he's amazing, he's a walking encyclopaedia on wildlife, conservation and culture. He made the trip so enjoyable as we moved between great sights and sounds of Tanzania. Selous is an amazing place, so vast and ladden with different animal specis, lots of birdlife and water animals too. I have total confidence that Gecko Adventure Tanzania will arrange and coordinate a perfect safari trip in Tanzania.
We had a fabulous adventurous trip to Tanzania. Our choice to visit Selous was perfect because we saw all the big five and also saw rare wild dogs, a leopard and many other animals. our guide Musa was outstanding. He knew all the lovely spots in the park where we could sight wildlife comfortably without spooking it. Accommodations organized was top class which was an additional great experience. The boat safari along Rufiji River were epic. We had a different perspective to see the wildlife.
We took the trip to Tanzania and have had an incredible experience visiting Selous Game Reserve. This park is so vast and abundantly endowed with wildlife species that we hardly scratched the surface in the three days we spent there. I am glad that we chose this off the beaten path because there were hardly any other people. The natural attractions are in pristine condition, and it was much more than fun than we expected. Musa was an amazing guide and gave us an amazing experience. We will definitely be returning to Tanzania and we will not be looking further than Gecko Adventure Tanzania
We returned to Tanzania for an awesome tour to Selous. Rama hosted and made us feel special. Exploring the expansive park with Rama was magical. He has done this trip numerous times and knows everything about the place. It was surreal viewing game on a boat along River Rufiji. We did a mix of camping and lodges making our romantic adventure wholesome.
Our safari with Gecko Adventures fully exceeded our expectations! Rama put together a seamless trip. I loved his personal approach allowing flexibility to fit all the activities that we were interested in. Selous is so expansive and not crowded allowing for serene game drives enjoying nature in an almost natural state. We saw many elephants, lions, wild dogs, hyenas, zebras, antelopes, giraffes, hippos, crocs…….with our skilled guide. The lodges were luxurious, offering great comfrt in the bush. It was a really nice experience.
Last month Rama did his magic and organized the most beautiful camping adventure in Selous. I have been to other parks but Selous is unique in that we did both bush and river safari for three days and from Rama this was just but a little prod of the huge park. We saw all the big 5 plus a horde of other animals including hippos, crocodiles. I almost forgot to mention that Selous turned to be a birding paradise filled with great sights of water birds and many other different species. Transport was in a 4x4 Toyota jeep with Zacharia our driven by cum guide who did a splendid job of showing us around the park. I highly recommend Gecko Adventures for a wonderful time in Tanzania.
The driver had big experience of the bush and wild animals. He was patient and conscientious we saw almost animals living in the park : Lions, hyna, elephant, crocodile, girafe, hippo, devra, wapiti, impala...
we make the 3 days safari to selous game reserve!everything was great with Zacharias our driver!! The boat safari and full day safari was incredible experience, despite the fact we did not saw lions, but i recommend to skip walking safari because it is not inside the reserve but close to the camp. If you can add another day for safari to reserve. Selous reiver camp was great to stay!!
We had a great experience with guide Otto from Gecko Adventure Tanzania. I wasn’t so sure Selous would be the right destination for us, but in the end it was the most fantastic tour we ever did in Tanzania. At first we were impressed by the pristine beauty of the park. It was not crowded, and we enjoyed the view mostly without other people. We were lucky to have Otto with us because he knew the park and all the places where we could find animals well. His insights and stories about the animals, the history of the park, the culture of Tanzania and much more told us a lot. We stayed at a nice lodge on the Rufiji River and then went camping, which was quite adventurous. We saw many animals and some of the most beautiful landscapes.
We enjoyed the beautiful landscapes of Selous with guide Ally from Gecko Adventure Tanzania. Selous was different from the other parks we visited in Tanzania. There was little human traffic and mostly we had the place to ourselves. This made the game drives very intimate and we had all the time in the world to enjoy them. The boat trip along the Rifiji River is a must! The staff at the lodges we visited were welcoming and treated us really well. We absolutely loved the tour and had a great time.
A 2-week trip to Tanzania / 2 adults (the grandparents) and 1 12-year-old teenager (the granddaughter) / 1 week focused on diving at Mafia Island and a safari. For the safari we chose, after several researches and quotes, Gecko adventure a local company from Dar Es Salaam. It was very easy to communicate with Ramâ (the boss) by email and Whatapps. He offered us 2 options adapted to our budget and our availability. We opted for 3 days in Nyerere Park in the Selous Reserve. 1/2 day transfer (5 hours of trails) from Dar es Salaam/ meal break at the lodge/ safari on the Rufiji River // the next day full day of safari with picnic // the 3rd day morning safari / return to the hotel with picnic. For the 3 of us, available: a landcruiser in very good condition with a large cooler full of bottles of water / a driver guide (Erik), an independent French-speaking guide (Hassan). Full board stay at Selous safari lodges (comfortable, in a pleasant setting, friendly staff, good food). A clear quote, payment in euros on a secure site and a safari in accordance with the commitments. Thank you Ramâ for your responsiveness, for this good organization and for the quality of your guide collaborators. We are far from the tourist factories! We really recommend your company and wish it a long life. The Selous reserve is not overcrowded. It offers superb varied landscapes (lakes, rivers, baobabs, acacias, etc.) and a rich fauna (elephants, giraffes, wildebeest, impalas, large kudus, wildebeests, warthogs, zebras, buffaloes, hippos, crocs, monitor lizards, birds and many more). other than our 2 very professional and very experienced guides who introduced us to them. They have a perfect knowledge of the environment. They are second to none when it comes to spotting and safely approaching animals. We were able to observe them at length. (notably a group of elephants) MAGIC! The AR trip was an opportunity over the km to discover the Tanzanian reality, to exchange with humor about our 2 countries and to learn a multitude of things about Tanzania. Truly moments of "very enriching exchanges. Thank you 2. Erik you impressed us with your concentration and your mastery of driving for long hours in difficult conditions both on the slopes, in the park or in traffic in Dar es Salaam .We always felt safe. And our slightly worn backs held up the trip well! Hassan, you speak perfect French and you are very cultured. You taught us a lot of things about your country and about animals. We left you with great emotion. Unfortunately we won't be able to send you the group photo because our camera was stolen! But we have wonderful memories thanks to you. We will not forget you friends and we wish you the best for you, your families and your country. Julie, Jean-Michel and Véronique
This was an amazing safari with this company. Every aspect of the safari was planned down to the last detail. Our driver Makelele was knowledgeable and treated us to the best guiding experience. We saw all the animals we had hoped for and more. It was an amazing experience to see the wildlife from our boat slowly cruising on the Rufiji River. I also can't forget the magical sunsets from our room at Rufiji River Camp.
We just finished our three day safari to Selous. Our guide Rama was an excellent driver and even better as a guide. His remarkable skills in getting us into the action are unmatched. Selous is the authentic safari experience. The park is huge and has fewer visitors which makes the safari special. I'm glad we agreed to do the boat safari on the Rufiji River because it was amazing. The accommodations were well planned and very comfortable. This trip was worth every penny.
We booked a safari in the Selou Natural Park with Gecko agency in 2020. Rama was very responsive and really adapted to our requests and desires: for example we wanted to make the journey from Dar es Salaam to Selou by train and Rama organized everything to make everything easy and comfortable. Our stay had to be postponed twice due to COVID but the postponement is done without any difficulty. The reserved lodges were perfect: the moutain lodge sand in particular pleased us very much with a very original decoration from lots of recycled objects, very attentive staff, a breathtaking view from the rooms or the restaurant, luxury tents being comfortable with even a bathtub with views of the forest. We were fortunate to have a very professional and extremely competent guide, Otto, who really drove us to magical places in the Selou Park. He spared no effort to make us discover all the riches of park that he knows as his pocket. We highly recommend this very serious and very professional local agency rather than going through much more expensive European agencies for equivalent services.
