This was a highlight in our visit to Sigiriya. The whole family enjoyed the experience, especially eating everything we had cooked together. The set up was perfect to learn about the SriLankan cooking, with everything coming from the gardens surrounding the kitchen. What a lovely family run set up, thank you for sharing this experience with us.

This was a really good experience.. enjoyed my time cooking with this family and food was amazing....
That was amazing. Teacher has a lot of knowlege about cooking, harvesting etc. It was great time with great people. I hope that we will meet soon. Love you <3
We had the best time doing this cooking course. We had a lot of great food in Sri Lanka but this was one of the best food we ate. Can’t wait to try cooking it. Highly recommend
He was super nice and explained a lot about health, cooking and spices. He gave us recipes so we could recreate the meals at home. We would really recommend coming here!
It was an amazing cooking class!! We enjoyed it very much, the family was friendly and gave us so much information about traditional Sri Lankan food 😋
It is a super nice cooking workshop. It is organized by a family of 3 and the cute daughter is assisting her parents. The people are really nice and really enjoy giving the lessons. You start with a short tour in their herbal garden and they explain a bit about the herbal medicine they apply here in Sri Lanka. Afterwards you get instructions how to make different curries, roti and string hoppers and they put you to work. The food was so delicious! At the end you can buy some spices and you get the recipes send to you via whatsapp. It is such a lovely cooking workshop and I could not recommend it more when you are in Sigiriya!
Very nice, warm and kind family, introducing their garden and cooking delicious food. I really enjoyed the cooking class with them.
This cooking class was a once in a lifetime experience. We have never done a cooking class like it. The family who lead the class, we believe to be husband and wife, were kind, knowledgeable, friendly & accommodating. We met their daughter who was 4 years old and my husband made some Idiyappam with her, it was very sweet. The class and tour of the garden took around 2 hours for just the 2 of us. Unfortunately, this family experience a lot of last minute cancellation due to hotels or taxis asking for a 50% commission therefore I would advise to book direct and do not cancel. This income supports 22 members of their family and promotes natural medicine and organic farming, this is their pride and joy and you can see that in their classes. PLEASE BOOK!!!
A real highlight of our holiday. We prepared, cooked and ate a brilliant Sri Lankan meal together. A real family enterprise. All the ingredients are organic and grown on the property. Everything prepared in a traditional way. Our hosts made us feel very welcome and relaxed. We left feeling informed, inspired and happy
Best Sri Lankan cooking class in Sirigiya! All natural ingredients from the garden, super educational, around 4 curries made, with sides and desert.
Amazing cooking class in Sigiriya, would recommend for everyone who wants to cook traditional Sri Lankan dishes with great explanation. All from this familys own garden!
The cooking class was amazing and really authentic!! It was such a warmhearted environment and the family is lovely. Everything is from their own garden and vegan, we cooked multiple different curries, roti, and dessert and it was delicious. We got sent so many recipes after as well and they gave us a cooking spoon made out of coconut as a gift which was so cute. I highly recommend if you want to get an authentic experience and support a lovely local family. We had a great time :)
I can only recommend this cooking class to everybody staying in Sigiriya!!! They’re all very kindhearted people. They taught us about natural/herbal medicine, a bit about Ayurveda and showed us how to cook in a healthy, organic and sustainable way. The food was amazing and we cooked a huge variety! Thank you so much for this wonderful experience.
We had a very good evening, helped to prepare our own Sri Lankan dinner with the friendly couple, Kumara and Thanuja. Highly recommended!
Very nice workshop, delicious food! The garden tour is very interesting, he knows a lot about organic agriculture. Learned a lot about food, herbs etc.
Very nice experience! The couple was very friendly, explained us a lot about herbal medicin, showed us their garden and learned us to cook traditional sir lankan food which was super tasty!
We went to the cooking class of Kumara and his family, with my family. We learned so much of the medicinal power of the trees and plants in their garden. Food making was nice and the eating afterwards, not a punishment! The kids liked it a lot as well.
Great cooking class. Learn how Sri Lanka dishes are prepared in a cozy atmosphere. The host are great in explaining and you contribute to the cooking in a group.
We really loved the cooking class! Kumara and Thanuja were lovely people and talked with a lot of passion about their homemade recipes. The food was really nice and after dinner he arranged a taxi for everyone to get home safely. I would definitely recommend taking a cooking class here 🥰
we did a cooking class at Kumaras place. It was an awesome experience. He showed us his garden, taught us different herbs and told us about the family property. Afterwards we chopped up some vegetables and cooked together. Everything is from their own garden of course. Kumara and his wife showed us how to cook different curries, dhal, roti, hoppers and a dessert. Everything is vegan, gluten-free and organic. We had a great cooking class, learnt a lot and had a delicious meal at the end. We would definitely recommend going to their place and support the local/family business. They were great and kind hosts. Definitely worth supporting.
If you want an authentic Sri Lankan experience, this cooking class ticks all the boxes. You arrive at the modest rural home of a Sri Lankan multi-generational family who live off their land. The short tour of their land show cases the incredible variety of herbs and spices they grow and his knowledge of the traditional medicinal qualities of the various plants. The kitchen is a traditional fire range in a humble outdoor kitchen area. All the food we prepared was organic and from their land. The variety of food we made was incredible and a testament to the richness of their diet from mere subsistence agriculture, blessed of course by the a verdant environment. As one person put it later to us, if you plant a broom in Sri Lanka it will grow 🤣. Our hosts were absolutely charming, explaining each of the dishes and the spices used. The various food preparation tasks were allocated between those of us there. The communal nature of all of us chopping, cutting, grinding, kneading the ingredients for the various dishes created such a convivial atmosphere between us and to my mind gave us a sense of what communal living must be like. Cooking the various dishes over the fires in the traditional fire range was hot hot work and caused much laughter as us unacclimatised Europeans took turns at the fire stove cooking our food, with one guest producing a Chinese style hand fan which we took turns fanning each other. It was so funny. Our food prepared, it looked and tasted more delicious than I could have imagined, eating in the traditional manner with your hand. Given that we had all prepared the food with our hands, it felt quite natural a way to experience the communality of having worked together to “break bread”

Great experience, so much knowledge on the health benefits of naturally produced organic foods and an incite into the running and maintenance needed in the farming of said produce. All food made was amazing and doing it in a local style was a real pleasure, plus the chance to purchase some family secret curry powder signed the afternoon off perfectly 10/10. Please book directly with the family so they receive the full profits.
Kumara and his family were so welcoming! We learned a lot about ayurvedic and ecological cooking and got the chance to make typical Sri Lankan dishes. It was a wonderful experience and would 100% recommend it to anyone interested in learning new cooking skills, meeting incredibly sweet people and eat a fantastic Sri Lankan meal.
Kumara is a wonderful host, together with his wife they offer a great experience! First a warm welcome with a flower crown and then a walk around the beautiful garden with interesting explanations. The cooking class is really nice, you make some beautiful and very tasty dishes of which, afterwards, you receive the recipes. Would absolutely recommend!!
Great cooking class! Kumara has a beautiful kitchen, explains a lot before and during the class and is very engaging! Can definitely recommend!
This was such an amazing experience! So authentic and a great way to immerse yourself in Sri Lankan culture. The tour around the organic garden and learning about the different plants, herbs and vegetables was super interesting and the cooking itself was also fantastic with everyone in the group getting involved! Kumara and his wife were so welcoming and we had so much fun cooking with them in their traditional Sri Lankan kitchen. I would 100% recommend this experience if you’re in Sigiriya.
We had an amazing time during our cooking lesson ! We learned a lot about the spices, that they were using from their own garden. The family was lovely! Together we cooked traditional Sri Lankan dishes, and it was delicious!
We had an amazing time cooking with Kumara and his lovely family. All organic, all vegan. Would definitely recommend!!!!
It was an amazing lokal cooking class with Kumara and his wife thanuja! They are so kind, friendly and fun! We laughed much and had really good time. Besides, they have a lot of knowledge about the herbs, fruits and vegetables. They have an organic garden. They will show you everything and after you cook together. They tell everything good, but you dont need to take notes because they will send you it! So you can make the amazing currys and desserts for yourself at home. I definitly would reccommend this coocking class!
We had a lovely time with other couples making and tasting our delicious currys. They also had a lot of knowledge about the health benefits of certain herbs and spices. So that was really awesome to learn
Thank you Kumara! It was amazing! 🙌🏽 We love your stories about the hurbs and the food was amazing. Good price for what you get! 🥬🥭🫚
The food was amazing and everthing was organic. Als Kumara and his family are really nice. Overall it was a great experience ☺️
WOWWW!! a beautiful and traditional experience , abundant in authenticity! This experience is one-of-a-kind and very unique for those wanting to uncover true Sri Lankan cultural cooking. The family and their organic farming, providing medicinal spices, vegetables and education on how they live in respect to full Ayurvedic living , was a memory my father and I won’t ever forget! We left with belly’s soothed by love and learning and smiles in appreciation of what they had to offer.
We had such a lovely and interesting cooking experience with Kumara, Thanuja and their family. Their home is set in a beautiful rural location and Kumara gave us some very interesting information about the organic plants they grow. We got to cook several dishes, from chopping the veg and kneading doughs, to cooking over fire. We went with our 6 and 8 year old children and they really enjoyed joining in too. The food was delicious and we got to buy some of their homegrown spices which along with the many recipes Kumara sent us, we will be trying to recreate something similar at home!
Loved the whole experience! Lovely local family, all organic from their own garden. They know everything about the ingredients, learned a lot, lots of fun and delicious food!
My boyfriend and I booked this cooking course from a friend's recommendation and it was an amazing experience! Kumara and his family were fantastic hosts and answered questions us guests had. Kumara took us on a fascinating tour through his garden whilst explaining different roots/spices/herbs they use in their cooking and their health benefits. Kumara and his family taught us how to cook a delicious authentic organic and vegan Sri Lankan feast with room for seconds...and sometimes third helpings! I would highly recommend this experience to anyone who loves food and culture rich experiences 😃😃
Perfect vegan cooking class. We enjoyed it so much. The food was delicious and we got all the recipes afterwards. I highly recommend!
I highly recommend this cooking class! I had the best local experience, friendly and warm family, the food was delicious!
We had a really good time at this cooking class. Kumara and his wife were really friendly and gave us a nice tour of his organic garden showing some plants used for herbs and cooking. We then made a couple of dishes with the group (total 8 of us) which were incredibly tasty. Really nice to see a traditional kitchen and techniques. Id highly recommend this for an activity, we did it at 11am after a sunrise hike up Pidurangala.
I can absolutely recommend it. First we had a walk through their garden. Everything came from their. After that we had a very familiar cooking with the family and the lunch was very tasty. Please don’t tell your homestay/hotel that you are going their. Than they have to pay a high fee.
This was one of the best activities on our trip to Sri Lanka. It was also the best food we had. And we made it ourselves, can you believe it? Highly recommended with kids. Our daughter enjoyed it at least as much as we did. Book this cooking class and no other. They're not comparable!
Very lovely family who are passionate about helping others with their medicinal herbs and cooking organically. They know how to make a delicious meal and will teach you the process starting in their garden. At the end they will share the recipe and all details with you. Recommended for sure!
The best cookery class in the whole region! It was a great experience and we can only recommend it to anyone. They still cook with love here and before that we visited their own organic garden. Many thanks again!
We had a very nice time coocking with Kumara and his family! It was interesting and a lot of fun to learn about the sri lankan cuisine. And the food was delicious! Thank you!
This cooking class was an unforgettable experience! We had a great time, learned about the ingredients, their health benefits and enjoyed authentic organic food. The curry was absolutely delicious! A huge thank you to Kumara and his family for this evening!
Me and my friends had a cooking class this evening with Kamara and his family. The food was the best I had the two weeks I have been in Sri Lanka and the class was so much fun. A must do in Sigiriya.
