Itinerary
Begin your journey to Hue, traveling along the northern coast of Da Nang and making a stop at the top of Hai Van Pass to explore the remnants of war bunkers.
Upon arrival in Hue, we will visit the Citadel, the city's prime attraction, which encompasses the Imperial City, the Forbidden Purple City, and the Emperor's Private Residence. Built from 1804 to 1833 during the Nguyen Dynasty - the last feudal kingdom in Vietnam - the Citadel is fortified by 2-kilometer ramparts and surrounded by a tranquil moat. Inside the Citadel, you can explore a variety of structures, including the Imperial City Gates, the Purple Forbidden City, as well as temples, pavilions, and beautifully landscaped gardens.
We will have a short break for lunch
After a short break for lunch, we will embark on a boat trip along the picturesque Perfume River, making a stop at Thien Mu Pagoda.
Thien Mu Pagoda, This active Buddhist monastery, dating back to 1601, houses poignant historical displays, including a car belonging to a former monk who set himself alight in 1963 to protest against the South Vietnamese regime's treatment of Buddhists.
Finally, we will visit the serene Khai Dinh Royal Tomb, designed to blend harmoniously with its natural surroundings and built according to feng shui principles. Caution: Visitors are required to wear shirts with sleeves and pants covering knees when visiting the Hue Citadel.

So much history! Our tour guide was extremely knowledgeable about the area and history, we learnt so much. Lunch was delicious and our driver was there to pick us up as soon as we finished each section of the tour. Highly recommend doing this!
The tour was well organized and our tour guide was very nice and informative. We had about the right amount of time at each place and the van was comfortable and well air conditioned. The tour hits the highlights which is what we wanted. We were disappointed with the view at Hai Van Pass - the air at the end of March is not very clear - it obviously wasn't the fault of the tour guide - but everyone had been telling us we needed to go to the pass because it was so beautiful but you really couldn't see much from the pass. The gate at the pass was interesting however and the pass is on the way so not a big deal to stop for 10 minutes - i just wanted to warn folks that going just to see the pass would be unfortunate. The other stops were great and lunch was very good. The other thing i wish i had known ahead of time is that it can get very hot so best to bring a fan or cold towel.
This was an absolutely great tour! Not only we were the only ones taking it which was awesome, the itinerary was well planned and we got to see so many things! Even despite the rain in the beginning that limited the ability to get amazing views on the Hai Van pass we had a great time. Hue Imperial city and other stops were a must-see and our guide Abby was fantastic and gave a lot of info about history and traditions. Absolutely recommend!
Great tour but a lot of steps to some of the places we visited. Enjoyed the Palace. Our guide was friendly and very informative. Especially enjoyed a delicious and generous lunch.
A long but informative day visiting some wonderful historic sights. Emily was a wonderful tour guide who made our day very memorable.
Tour to Hue turned out to be a private tour with guide Emily and driver Lao. Emily was fantastic, very energetic, funny, knowledgeable, and good paparazzi;) Lunch was delicious! Tour was very interesting. Emily gave us a lot of interestings facts about dynasty Nguyen and some other info about country in present times. It was a long day bit we didnt really feel it thanks to Emily. Great job!
We had a very full but enjoyable day today. Our destination was Hue and we went via the Hai Van pass which had stunning views. We stopped at Lang Co, Emperor Khai Dinh’s mausoleum and the Imperial City at Hue. We enjoyed a 7 course Vietnamese meal in a beautiful restaurant, followed by a Pagoda visit and ride along the river in a boat. Our guide, My was very friendly and knowledgeable and we were never rushed. The drive back to Da Nang was long but it was overall very worthwhile.
Great day Emily our guide was very knowledgeable and friendly Was a long day with 3 hrs travel each way
Is was a good trip with lady called Viet. A log 12 hours trip with a lot of dutiful nature on the way, great historical places.
Very much enjoyed this trip from Da Nang. Our guide Emily was excellent - kind, enthusiastic, knowledgeable and we felt very well looked after. Loved the drive over the pass into Hue, the places we visited and the delicious lunch. Well worth the travel time and highly recommended this tour to see the historical sites of Hue.
Our tour guide Emily was fantastic , very knowledgeable and very considerate to all the guests. She also acted as our professional photographer for as many photos as we wanted at no additional cost. The tour was as advertised as a small group, there was only one additional couple in our group and we appreciated that there were no high pressure sales tactics.
This is a great way to visit Hue from Da Nang. Our guide was very informative and provided great commentary on the history of each location we visited. A highlight of the trip was the Kings Tomb which was amazing. The travel to and from Hue was comfortable and air conditioned with cold bottled water provided. I would recommend this tour to anyone interested in travelling to Hue.
Well organised day out, out guide was great and looked after us. An informative and interesting food, the lunch stop was great, well presented and tasty food. Thanks for a lovely day.
This tour was amazing. The tour guide (sorry don't remember her name) but she was so lovely and so much fun. The forbidden city of Hue was stunning. The restaurant she took us to was stunning. the food was great. The boat trip on the Perfume river was the only low part as we were hassled by the boat owners to buy souvenirs. Which made it a bit uncomfortable. The royal tomb was stunning.
A wonderful trip, our tour guide Emily worked really hard to make sure our experience visiting the imperial city was as memorable as possible. With so much History to try to absorb in such a short time it’s hard to take it all in.That said the morning we had gave us much information which has helped give us a better understanding of Hue and the importance of it’s place in Vietnamese History.
On our day tour to Hue, we stopped at the breathtaking Hai Van Pass, a local pearl shop and the ancient city of Hue. Emily, our tour guide gave us a summary of the trip and consistently updated us of our progress and direction. She taught us a lot about vietnamese modern culture and Hue’s ancient history - a great guide. She was lovely and very keen to answer any questions (including questions related to history and culture). She is also a great and willing photographer! Our driver was driving very carefully in the mountains but he was speeding and overtaking other cars quite a lot when we were on flat surface - our experience would have been even better if he drove more smoothly. Otherwise, a great tour!
Had a memorable day in Hue. The Citadel, pagoda and tomb of Emperor Khai Dinh are all beautiful and my guide Tom and driver Quoc took great care of me. Tom is very knowledgeable about all the sites and his English might be better than mine, LOL. Strongly recommended.
This trip to Hue has been the highlight of my trip to Vietnam till now. Firstly the guide, Mr Eric was the best of the guides I have come across in a long time. He was knowledgeable and could answer all my queries promptly and correctly. More than that it it was his enthusiasm and smile which ensured that our trip was a memorable one. Secondly, Vietnam’s monarchist grandeur was on display. The palace was exquisite to say the least but not pompous. The Tombs were a class apart in its architecture and reminded me of Taj Mahal in India though Taj Mahal is at a larger scale and in marble. The exclusive aspect I observed was the use of colour in cement to give the appearance of marble as also the intricate marble and Glass inlays. The travel to and fro through the hills provided some breathtaking views which were enhanced due to the low clouds which blessed us. Last but not the least, the food which was served was fabulous but maybe too heavy for consumption in one go but the restaurant preferred to pack the left overs for us rather than throw it away as waste. Overall a fabulous trip which cannot be missed. The day out from Da Nang and the beaches was truly worth it and kudos to Mr Eric
Tom was an amazing your guide and told us great stories! We did this tour on Xmas day and Tom made sure we had a good time and a Xmas we will never forget!
Viet, our tour guide, was excellent! She provided so many interesting facts and history about the different dynasties in the Citadel. Highly recommend.
Had a wonderful and well-paced day with Emily, our guide who spoke excellent English and really looked after us. We fitted a lot in but didn’t feel rushed and it was fantastic getting to see the beautiful sites of Hue.
Great experience to be able to see Hue in a day from Đà Nẵng. It is a very long day around 11.5 hours but worth it. Wish there was more time to explore the citadel but it was already getting late. Being able to see the highlights in Hue and going over the Hai Van pass was great. The tour guide was friendly, knowledgeable and kept the show moving.
Great to return to Hue, the ancestral home of the Nguyen Dynasty. There is construction work ongoing to improve the facilities but still worth a visit and would recommend getting a tour guide which is relatively inexpensive, for the wealth of knowledge gained.
Very enjoyable and interesting one day trip from Da Nang to Hué incorporating many of the main sights. Our guide Thu was very professional and informative giving us lots of information about Vietnam and the area as we travelled the route from Da Nang via the Hoi Van pass to Hué and back through the tunnel. The Vietnamese lunch was delicious in a lovely restaurant inside the old city walls. I would recommend this tour for any with time restrictions. It gives a very good overall impression of Hue in one day. If I had more time I would have liked to spend longer at some of the sights, perhaps stay for a night or two, but that's possibly just me, I'm interested in history. Our driver as excellent always there to pick us up and bring us to the next location.
This was an excellent tour. Our tour guide, Viet, was very knowledgeable about the Nguyen Dynasty and the general history of the area. The tour included a great meal and a nice boat ride up the Perfume River. The drive through the Hai Van mountain pass was very beautiful. You go from sea level to an elevation of 500m with all the views that go along with it. Tour left on time, got home at the time expected, and was all in all an excellent day.
Don’t miss out on this amazing excursion. All you have to be lucky with the weather. Need good physical condition.
Very well organised tour that let us experience what Hue has to offer without feeling rushed. I was glad we went through the pass as the scenery is amazing. Loved the dragon boat ride to the pagoda and the comfortable van offered a reprieve from the heat between sites. Our lunch was superb. Thank you Bao for being a wonderful guide.
We were happy with the booking and arrangements for the day trip. It was a shame that the misty, wet weather spoilt any chance of a view from the Hai Van pass. The day in Hue was well organised but again the weather meant our guide had to rush us between sites to stay dry. Lunch was a sit down set menu with lots of food. The boat ride was maybe the least interesting. Hue has lots of amazing places to fit into one day. Maybe an overnight stay would be good.
Pros: Nice Minibus, small group, we were only 7 (different to STours where a "small" group of max 15 people were in fact 30 inside a tiny chinese bus with narrow seats). Even though it takes 10 hrs it is worth to do, Citadel and Tomb of Khai Dinh were impressing, very nice location for lunch and delicious taste of different Vietnamese dishes. Cons: The guide was not too entusiastic. She talked in the bus without loudspeaker and in spite of repeated requests often did not talk in the direction to the travellers so not everything was understood in row 4. All tourist groups had the guide inside Tomb of Khai Dinh but our guide was too lazy to join us. The river cruise was nothing special as the surroundings did not have any interesting views.
Enjoyed the tour very much. Eric the tour guide was great - very informative and friendly. Very nice lunch as well.
Eric was an outstanding guide. Amazing sights and he provided the context and history. Comfortable transportation.
This was a great day adventure to see the sights in Hue. It was hard to decide which places to visit on our own and our tour guide was excellent.
Fantastic day. Views of Hai Van Pass were amazing. Hue Citadel was fascinating and our guide Tom’s stories made it even more interesting. Great tour. Would recommend.
We joined the group tour however we were the only ones on it that day. Our driver was great but it was a slow trip due to speed limits. Our guide was excellent in all respects - knowledge, language skills and professionalism.
Our tour guide Eric is very knowledgeable about the history of Vietnam and can explain very well in proper English. The day trip to Hue is highly recommended for those who want to know more about the history of Nguyen Dynasty from 1802 to 1945. Kudos to Eric for the enjoyable trip.
My friend and I greatly enjoyed this tour. We had Sue as our guide. She was extremely knowledgable about the history of the area, site and Vietnam more broadly. The driver and car were also excellent and made for a comfortable ride. We took many tours in Vietnam but this was the best - understanding the story behind the Vietnamese royal family are really a must to appreciate the nation's rich history.
Good trip, but Perfume River boat trip didn’t happen and there was no offer of a financial consideration. This was part of the package and had been paid for.
On time, professional, friendly, knew a lot of facts, translated to English, was funny, had the best day with Vin He made the tour and was able to answer all our questions
We had a wonderful time on our tour of Hue. We got lucky and ended up having a private tour! The tour was an efficient way to explore several sites in Hue and in the heat, you can’t beat the convenience and comfort of traveling in a car with AC. Our guide Tom/Mot was delightful and good company. He had a lot of interesting and humorous stories and anecdotes throughout the tour and accommodated our needs. We also must comment on his impressive command of the English language. He has a more extensive vocabulary than many native speakers, and it’s evident that he is a real student of history and the English language. We would definitely recommend this tour.
Great trip. It was only the two of us but the trip still happened so we are thankful for that. The tour guide Bao was very nice and friendly and he knew a lot about the place. Comfortable ride with air conditioning too.
Great experience, beautiful tour, amazing guide. We really wanted to see Hue while we were here and this tour really packed it in magnificently.
My partner and I booked the night before and were the only two people on the tour. We got the recommendation from a different tour guide (Tam) and booked directly through the Hoi An Express site. Snow is super funny and very knowledgeable about Vietnamese history. We stopped at Hai Van Quan and saw the fort remnants and lookout. In Hue we took a dragon boat to the Thien Mu pagoda and then headed to the Imperial City. Snow taught us a lot about the emperors of Vietnam, especially the penultimate emperor, Khai Dinh. We had a lovely set lunch near the imperial city, saw the resting place of Khai Dinh and headed back to Danang. I thought this tour was 5-stars because Snow provided such a rich history of Vietnam, its rulers, the French, etc. She was also hilarious. Good laughs and good times were had.
Our driver and our guide were outstanding. We even had WiFi in the car to help pass the time on our somewhat long drive. Everything was as described in the "what to expect" description. Lunch they arranged for us in Hue was amazing. I highly recommend this tour and company to anyone visiting Danang that wants to see Hue.
The tour was perfect. The trip turned out to be a private one as we were only 2 and our guide (Snow) delivered everything we were promised. She was super nice.
A really great day out to see some of the most interesting sights in Vietnam, with a lovely river boat trip in a family boat. We really enjoyed the stunning historical sights on offer and learnt so much about Vietnam and the royal family, and Eric was so knowledgeable and answered all of our questions. He is one of the funniest and best tour guides we have had, and he has some excellent stories to tell! I hope next year he manages to run faster and catch himself a lovely wife, be sure to check on his training for us!! Ha, ha! The lunch was incredibly good too, some of the best food we had in Vietnam. It was amazingly presented and I was worried that all of the work had gone into that, but the taste was delicious too. We thoroughly recommend this tour, even if you just want to meet Eric!
Great day out to historic Hue.Great guide who informed us on interesting points about Vietnam on the long journey from Da Nang to Hue and detailed knowledge of Hue when we arrived- excellent value excursion and would recommend to anyone who wants a trio out to see the beautiful ancient imperial city of Hue
Great tour of the palace. Long drive and hot but well worth it. Very informative guide. The pagoda and the Emporers burial site was also good. Our guide was very knowledgable and spoke very good English. A very friendly person. The meal at the restaurant was first class as was the service, we loved eating like local and the garden was beautiful. The driver was also accomodating and was prepared to stop if you wished to take photos. He also did a nice tour of Danang as an extra. Value for money and highly recommended, especially for history and amazing views. Remember it’s a very long drive although it’s worth giving a try.
The day tour consists of visiting the palace, tomb of the emperor, temple and a couple of viewing rests along the way, very inspiring. A nice lunch was provided at a local restaurant. The guide did a great job introducing and explaining along the way. We were picked up from Hoi An, joined by more guests from Da Nang. The day was sizzling hot and the air conditioning from the bus barely made its job. The sun was scorching so a straw hat and/or umbrella is a must.

This was one of the best tours we have taken. Really enjoyed it!
