Itinerary
Thank you for coming to our fantastic Da Nang. Be ready for a 1-day memorable adventure with our local expert! 6:00 am: We pick up the group in Da Nang city center to depart to Da Nang Train Station and start the journey exploring Hue city.
At the Da Nang Train Station, you will get on our local train. Around 1.5 hours by train from Da Nang Train Station to Lang Co Train Station in Hue, you can enjoy a picturesque route along the coast of central Vietnam, offering stunning views of beaches, mountains, and countryside landscapes. This scenic route provides us with a unique and enjoyable way to experience the natural beauty of the region. Train travel can be more comfortable & relaxing compared to other modes of transportation. You can sit back, relax, and enjoy the journey while the train takes us to the destination. Trains typically offer more legroom and seating space, allowing you to stretch out and unwind during the trip.
On the train to Hue City, the first spectacular natural scene is Hai Van mountain pass which is one of the world's top ten most beautiful coastal roads in Viet Nam. The train travels through thick jungle as it winds its way around the coast with glimpses of secret beaches through the forest. When the train goes high enough, there are great views of the skyline across the Bay of Da Nang. Additionally, the pass is steeped in history, having been a strategic military location during the Vietnam War. Don't forget to listen many unique & interesting stories about it from our local expert.
After the exciting journey on the train, the driver will pick us up at Lang Co Train Station in Thua Thien Hue, then transfer to the destinations.
You will also stop by the Lang Co area around 15 minutes, which features over 10 km of white sandy coastline and clear blue waters—a perfect spot to relax and take photos. Please note that this is only a viewpoint in Lang Co, not the beach itself. It is intended as a rest stop and restroom break after a long journey.
As a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the citadel stands as a testament to the country's rich past, serving as the political and cultural heart of the Nguyen Dynasty. The picturesque setting along the Perfume River, surrounded by verdant gardens and scenic landscapes, adds to the allure of this historical gem. With our local expert, your trip to Hue Imperial City will be a fascinating journey through time, providing insights into Vietnamese history, culture, and architectural splendor.
As the main entrance to the citadel, Noon Gate holds a special place in Vietnam's imperial history. It served as the gateway where the emperor's procession would pass through during important ceremonies and events. It's a huge U-shaped construction consisting of a brick and stone foundation and a wooden pavilion with terracotta tiles. The gate's imposing structure, with its distinctive red color and intricate design, symbolizes power and grandeur. Exploring Noon Gate allows you to appreciate the craftsmanship of traditional Vietnamese architecture and offers a glimpse into the royal rituals and traditions of the past. With our local experts, we'll show the best of what it can offer, ensuring that you'll have a good time with detailed insights into Vietnam's history, culture & people.
As the central and most important building within the citadel, Thai Hoa Palace served as the official reception hall for the Nguyen emperors, where important ceremonies and royal events took place. The palace's impressive architecture, characterized by its traditional Vietnamese design, intricate wood carvings, and vibrant colors, exemplifies the grandeur and sophistication of the imperial court. Exploring Thai Hoa Palace means you'll step back in time and imagine the grand ceremonies and traditions held here. Inside, you can see ancient artifacts, royal items, and special decorations that reveal Vietnam's royal past. Additionally, the peaceful atmosphere of the palace grounds, with its beautiful gardens and calm ponds, creates a relaxing environment for you to enjoy the palace's beauty and historical importance.
Visit Kien Trung Palace (Điện Kiến Trung) Discover the newly restored Kien Trung Palace, once the residence and working place of Emperor Khai Dinh and Emperor Bao Dai. The palace features a unique blend of Vietnamese royal design and French colonial architecture, symbolizing the last phase of Nguyen Dynasty art and culture.
As one of the oldest and most iconic pagodas in Vietnam, Thien Mu Pagoda holds a special place in the country's religious heritage. The pagoda's seven-story octagonal tower, known as the Phuoc Duyen Tower, is a symbol of Hue and offers panoramic views of the Perfume River and surrounding countryside. Join us to explore the pagoda complex, which includes shrines, pavilions, and beautifully landscaped gardens, providing a peaceful retreat for meditation and contemplation. The pagoda's historical importance, tranquil ambiance, and architectural beauty make it a must-visit destination for those who seek to immerse themselves in Vietnamese culture and spirituality. We love to share stories about our culture, history and significance about this pagoda to give you a deeper appreciation and interesting knowledge of Hue's unique heritage.

Our tour guide Tom and driver both did a great job today. Tom was very good at explaining the history around the places we went as well as providing lots of small insights that I found enjoyable. It was a great experience.
Our guide Tom was well equipped with knowledge on all historic sights we stopped at. He didnt make any discussions boring and even cracked a few jokes. He was smiling the whole time and very kind and approachable. Our driver Chat went above and beyond ensuring the van eas always cool when we stepped in, when we stopped racing out to hand out chilled water bottles and wet wipes. What an experience. Thank you team.
It was a beautiful, scenic train ride from Da Nang to Hue, with beautiful ocean views, followed by a comprehensive tour of Hue. Our guide, Harry, and our driver did a great job. I highly recommend this trip to anyone visiting the area! Eric H.
Excellent tour but prepare for warm temperatures! Our guide Van was simply Vantastic and our driver was amazing.
This was a comprehensive tour of Hue, to tick off your bucket list! The railway journey is beautiful and worth the early start! Our guide Van and driver were great, the day is long but it's paced well so I'd recommend it
Very warm, welcoming and friendly. Dint feel like strangers. Harry Potter, our guide was well informed about the history, he was very patient while narration and follow ups. Over all, a great experience.
I booked this tour with my wife, and we had such a great experience with our tour guide, Van. She was very energetic, personable, and knowledgeable about each location. I highly recommend booking a tour with Van! It was a long day, but so worth it! She takes great photos too
Harry was very friendly, knowledgeable, and fun. I highly recommend him. We loved the train ride as well.
Lovely day trip to Hue to experience some of Vietnam’s historical past. Van was very organised and knowledgeable, and kept our group well informed before both booking and during the day itself. She was super helpful and made the day very enjoyable. I would recommend this trip if ur interested in Vietnamese history. Van is an excellent host.
From the very beginning, our tour Guide Van, was warm, welcoming, and she was bursting with energy. Their deep historical and local knowledge was truly impressive; they didn't just rattle off dates and facts, but shared fascinating stories and background context that brought every stop to life. What really set them apart was how completely engaging and entertaining they were. They kept the entire group laughing with great humor, answered every random question effortlessly, and tailored the pace perfectly so no one ever felt rushed or bored.
Was a very enjoyable tour . The train ride was great and the history around the Imperial city was amazing . Our tour guide Tom was great, good English and very knowledgeable. He was very pleasant and caring. My only disappointment about the tour was that I thought we were returning by train.
I had a great experience joining the Citadel Tour. It was a wonderful opportunity to explore historical sites, learn more about Vietnamese history, and discover the beauty of traditional architecture. The tour was interesting, informative, and well-organized.
The experience was amazing The tour guide was funny and full of knowledge about his country
Well organised, perfect English, Van it is great , knowledgeable and funny tour guide.
Loved seeing all of these historic sites. Harry/Phuc, our guide, was very friendly and entertaining, with an excellent sense of humour. Transport was all seamless and well organised.
My parents had a great time. They had so much fun thanks to the wonderful staff /oganization. Thank you:)
Great day tour with a mix of views, history of the area and seeing some of the impressive structures. Bonus was seeing the old Austin car featured in the famous photo of the Monks who set themselves on fire in Saigon. Our tour guide Harry ( Harry Potter) was lots of fun and very knowledgeable and happy to answer lots of questions and make sure we were well looked after. Lunch was a good selection in a nice restaurant. The train journey added to the day and broke up the time in a bus.
My guide phuc was very interesting and professional. He knew all about the history of each place we visited. He also went the extra mile to make sure everyone was doing well. I would highly recommend him as a guide.
My guide Harry Potter was the best. Very informative about the history of all the locations we visited. I would highly recommend this trip with this guide.
My experience travelling the Hue and Ngeyuen provenance was truly one of a kind. From the historic train ride with beautiful green scenery to the Emperors tomb, I was impressed with it all. Our tour guide Miss Oahn was amazing. She was very thorough at explaining what we was looking at as well as the history that comes with it. The lunch was 10/10, plenty of variety and was very filling. The waiters were very polite and respectful. Would 100% recommend if you are into your history and sight seeing.
It was a very long day but worth of it! The train ride was something unique experience, I will never forget it. Van, our tour guide was super professional, giving an absolute informative guide to all the visited hystorical locations. Recommend to everyone interested in hystory and culture.
This tour was awesome. Van, the tour guide was fantastic. She was knowledgeable about the places we visited. Lunch was in a very nice restaurant and the food was excellent.
Great tour to Hue, including a very scenic train ride and lots of temples. Miss Duyen was a very knowledgeable guide and took good care of our group. It started early in the morning so we could see everything, so I'd recommend to come well rested to have enough energy for the day. Don't miss this tour if you're in Da Nang!
We had an amazing day. Pickup was onntime train was wel organized (sit on right side for best views). Our guide Sky was a brilliant young man. He was ver informative and added sime humor throughout the day.
Sky, the guide tour was very attentive and good knowledge about Hue' places. We choose this excursion with Viator but there are many offers and prices.
Our guide Sky, was very informative and had very good grasp of the county's history, giving immense value to the tour. Our guide was very personable and even brought levity in his presentation of the complex concepts involved in the formation of nations. Sky is a true asset to your company!
Great experience doing this day trip. Our guide, Sky, was very friendly, professional and had a great knowledge of the areas we visited. Everything was so enjoyable from the pick up to the train journey, an amazing lunch of authentic Vietnamese food and on to various sites of historic architecture and royal importance. Very comfortable journey on a clean, air conditioned bus with a very good driver. We would highly recommend this trip to anyone.
It was a great day. Our guide Sky was very funny, whitty and informative. Sky kept us ontime while allowing time to see the sites. The rain was good (definitely sit on right side of train). We really enjoyed the city/palace tour at end of the day.
This tour was fantastic! The train ride along the coast was beautiful. The citadel was very interesting, as were the other stops. What made the trip was our guide, Van. She was knowledgeable, charismatic, charming and funny! Our driver Jacques was wonderful too! I highly recommend this tour.
The trip was good and only made better by the tour guide Van. She was fantastic, funny, engaging and very knowledgeable. She made the tour memorable. I would highly recommend the tour - be sure to ask for Van.
We had an absolutely fantastic day exploring Hue, but what really made the experience exceptional was our guide, Van. From the moment we met her, Van was warm, welcoming and genuinely enthusiastic about sharing her country, its history and culture with us. Her knowledge was incredible, but more importantly, she had a real talent for bringing the history to life. Rather than simply reciting facts and dates, she told the stories behind the places we visited in a way that was engaging, interesting and easy to follow. We came away feeling like we had learned so much about Vietnam. The train journey through the Hai Van Pass was a brilliant way to start the day, with spectacular scenery, and the visits to the Imperial City, Thien Mu Pagoda and Khai Dinh Tomb were all fascinating. It is a full day with a lot to see, but Van kept everything organised, relaxed and enjoyable throughout. What impressed us most, though, was Van herself. She was incredibly friendly, patient and attentive to everyone in the group, always happy to answer questions and clearly passionate about what she does. She has a great sense of humour and struck the perfect balance between giving us plenty of information while still making the day feel fun and personal. A great tour can show you beautiful places, but a great guide can completely change how you experience and remember them. Van absolutely did that for us. She is a wonderful ambassador for Vietnam and someone who clearly takes enormous pride in making sure her guests have a memorable experience. We couldn't recommend this tour highly enough, and if you're lucky enough to have Van as your guide, you're in for a very special day. Thank you, Van — this was genuinely one of the highlights of our time in Vietnam!
We had an amazing tour with Sky to Hue! He was super informative and helpful. I was in a group of 6 girls about 25 years old and all of us had an absolute blast on our girls trip! We highly recommend this tour and everything it had to show us. The train was our favorite part
My tour guide was Van and she was amazing! The full package of knowledgeable, funny, and just a joy to be around. Van really made the tour a great and memorable experience. I would recommend Van and this tour to everyone. Van and the bus driver Chat really worked hard to make the tour and the entire experience go smoothly and ensured the guests were taken care of and had a wonderful time.
This was one of the best experiences and tour I have had the joy of experiencing. Our tour guide, English name Harry Potter haha, was so knowledgeable and took the time at each stop of the tour to give an in-depth tale about everything. I would recommend if you want to know much about Vietnam and its modern & Ancient history. Can not give Harry (aka Phùc) the biggest thanks and regards. They picked us up at the hotel and drop off at the door in the afternoon. Thanks Harry 🙏
Recommend this tour, tour guides are friendly and professional, did a great job in making everyone feel welcome and sharing the history of Vietnam. Thank you Leo and Harry!
Excellent tour, train trip the highlight . Sky was a fantastic guide and the minivan was brand new and very comfortable. Lunch was good . A very memorable trip and well worth the money .
A great trip from Da Nang to Hue, part way by train. Cool sights all around as we travelled to different locations within Hue, with plenty of time to wonder around and explore. Our guide Van was very engaging, funny and informative, she brought great energy to the tour, as was our driver who made life very easy for us. Would recommend 100%.
Harry was a funny guy! The pick-up was on time and everything went smoothly. Ww wished we had the option of booking the luxury cabin though, the epitome of train travel. He was rich with information about the emperors and provided a good amount of context. Enjoyed it!
Miss Van is an amazing tour guide and is a lively and bubbly person. The tour was very well organised with excellent communication throughout. Miss Van not only has exceptional historical and cultural knowledge, but also speaks good English and has a good sense of humour. The lunch provided was plentiful and delicious and catered to various dietary preferences and allergies. We would recommend this tour to anyone who visits Da Nang, Hue or Hoi An as we had a fantastic experience on the tour.
Excellent service with great variety of things to see and locations. Tour guide Van Was also really good, very funny and learnt a lot. Lunch was also exceptional. Drinks you have to pay for but the food you get still makes it worth it. The transit via the train and and bus both show you a lot of vietnams beautiful landscapes and gives great peace of mind to enjoy the day. We’ll worth it. The price for Australian a is a bout $100 per person but given how much you do, it is good value.
Well planned trip. Overall wonderful experience. Our guide Van was very energetic, knowledgeable and organized the trip very well.
It was a long and exhausting day, however it was very informative about the history of Vietnam.
The trip was interesting and well organized. If in the beginning I thought there were not many activities included, in the end I was spent and was glad we didn't have more planned lol. We started off with a hotel pick up and Hai van pass which was beautiful. A quick stop by lagoons and we continued by van to Imperial city. Our guide, Tiam, was kind and helpful, taking pictures of each group and explaining things interestingly. The lunch was delicious and fulfilling, and during the day we got two water bottles. We continued with a temple and a tomb, and then finished by bus to Danang. I only wish we had more time at the imperial city, but other than that I have no complaints!
What a fantastic day we had on this tour. Our guide Thinh and driver Viet were very organised and professional. The train journey made this trip unique and the Imperial Palace, Pagoda and Mausoleum were excellent. A traditional Vietnamese lunch was a bonus treat which was unexpected. We highly recommend this tour.
Sky was an excellent guide and prepared everything fantastically ahead of time, and according to the schedule! He was very knowledgeable, funny, and helpful! The sights we saw made it so that we had a jam-packed day, missing nothing!
Very informative day, great opportunities to see so many interesting and beautiful things. Tim our guide was very friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend
Sky was a very good guide. The day was very long and very hot! There was a lot of travelling, more time spent being transported than seeing sights
Our experience with Harry (potter) was the best ever! Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and super friendly. Made the whole time super fun even though it was a really warm day out. We got a huge historical lesson and such a great time!
Excellent Hue Citadel Tour We had a fantastic experience on the Hue Citadel tour from Da Nang, traveling by authentic train through the beautiful Hai Van Pass. Our tour guide, Sky, was excellent—very informative, friendly, and professional. His English was very good, and he explained everything clearly, which made the tour even more enjoyable. The journey, scenery, and cultural experience were wonderful, and Sky made the whole day memorable. Highly recommended for anyone looking to explore Hue from Da Nang!
