Such a fun way to get to know the food culture which is so important in Hou An. Would recommend for first or multiple time visitors. Great English speaking guide and definitely goes off the beaten path.

Itinerary
The evening food tour invites guests on a culinary experience around Hoi An. It's a carefully curated food adventure, led by the team of professional food guides. Before we get started, the tour reflects the local cuisine, and the limitations of street food vendors means we unfortunately cannot cater for every dietary restriction. Here's an honest appraisal for the tour, so no-one is disappointed: - Unsuitable for vegetarian diets sorry, as there would be 3-4 less tastings. - Unsuitable for severe allergies, halal and celiac diets, due to the risk of traces and cross-contamination. If you are feeling adventurous for a foodie journey, read on!
Discover another side to Hoi An’s heritage in a curated food adventure like no other. We begin with a steaming bowl of cao làu noodles, hand-cut from the original family house using water hauled that morning from the millennia-old Bà Lê well. This movable feast is just getting started, with 15+ tastings in all - from smoky marinated meat skewers to shredded com gà chicken with fragrant rice. Tucked away is an alleyway joint serving black sesame xí mà soup for over 70 years, made of the same secret recipe as the centenarian couple that invented it. Next we’ll venture to the market to find stalls discovered by Anthony Bourdain, where the tapioca shrimp dumplings hail from the royal court kitchens of Huế.
The culinary odyssey takes us to the nearby island village of Tra Que, for an exclusive invite from an organic farmer to the 400 year-old community. There’s a hands-on experience to fire-grill rice paper and pluck fresh herbs, before gorging on a farm-to-table feast: claypot braised eggplant, sizzling bánh xèo pancake, and “three friends” spring onion rolls, among more delicious surprises.
Back in town, we’ll learn how the same family has been delicately wrapping Hoi An’s white rose dumplings for over 100 years, tossing the chopsticks over this one-of-a-kind dish. Get ready to explore the real foodie scene tourists don't know and you'd struggle to find alone. Come hungry - the passionate guides are your ultimate hosts to Hoi An’s melting pot of Vietnamese cuisine.

Our guide Andy made this a totally memorable evening. My son and I love our food and this did not disappoint- so many different flavours and experiences, ranging from local Cau Lau, to Black Sesame soups, visiting the house where it was introduced to the country. As we tried more and more, we jumped into a Grab to the working Vegetable village where we observed the workers, cooked our own rice paper on coals and ate in the restaurant attached. Succulent rolls, flavoursome herbs and beautiful braised aubergine. We loved every second - Andy was knowledgable, friendly and made the evening! Thank you so Much
Sonny was a wonderful host - he took us around all the local spots and all the food we sampled was excellent. He was very knowledgeable the local traditions and customs, and meeting local people who make the food was also a highlight. Overall, I highly recommend this tour to anyone who loves food! Be warned though - come hungry as there is plenty of different food to try!
Great food tour with unique local perspective from Quin. She took us to places we never would have found on our own and ordered food that was uniquely found in Hoi An. We especially loved the rice cracker making experience, and the dishes near the organic farm - so fresh and beautifully presented. Quin was so sweet, she even helped us purchase some tea that we were looking for. Highly recommend this tour - if you book it, come hungry!
This tour is carefully curated, very well paced and allows you to try unique local dishes you probably would never find on your own. Our guide Leo was fun to be with. His English is exceptional and he was very polite and informative. We genuinely enjoyed every single one of the tastings and stops. Even though I tried to pace myself I was overly full at the end of the night. We booked the private experience and enjoyed it as it felt more intimate but I am confident the group experience would also be enjoyable. The black sesame pudding and rice cracker experiences, and the people we met were very special. We did the Hanoi tour as well and both are excellent with no real overlap of food. I would thoroughly recommend both tours as they are so different and you will learn so much!
We had the best time. Our guide Leo was so awesome. So friendly and knowledgeable. He made it really special and fun. It was so great getting to know the city through its food. Everything we ate was amazing. The coolest part was getting to try food and places we probably would have never found on our own. Can’t wait to do it in other cities.
We took this tour on our last night in Hoi An and I wish we'd gone day one. Quinn has curated an incredible tour full of hidden gems and delicious food! The vendors she's partnered with all offer a true glimpse into local life and traditions. She's a thoughtful interesting guide and my friend and I had a wonderful time. Definitely make this part of your trip. You won't regret it!
We’ve just finished up the day time Hoi A street food tour with Leo and it was wonderful. We tried so many new dishes we wouldn’t have found ourselves and Leo was so knowledgable. He taught us so much about Vietnamese culture and the food we were eating. The vendors at each stop were really friendly too. Couldn’t have asked for a better introduction to Vietnam… it was our first day in the country!! Favourite bite was the “three friends” and the Vietnamese dumplings. Highly recommend!!
Sonny was our tour guide and we had such a great time with him. This tour is the perfect way to be introduced to Hoi An and her history through food. We met so many great people and so many fantastic meals along the way, we also loved that the tour explored the old town as well taking us to a farm to see how ingredients are grown, the hands-on opportunities to cook the rice cake. Sonny was such good company the whole time. Five stars all around. Come hungry!
We had a great time with our guide Leo. He tooks us to great places that we wouldn’t be able to find on our own. Everything was so delicious! He explained about the food and about Vietnamese life, so it was not only a food tour but a lesson about Vietnam! We loved it! Thank you Leo!
My wife and I, from England, have just spent over four incredible hours with Leo on the Chefs Tour in Hoi An, and we can honestly say it has been one of the highlights of our entire trip to Vietnam. From the moment we met Leo, we knew we were in great hands. He is warm, funny, and so passionate about his country. His knowledge of Vietnamese food, farming, history, and culture is outstanding, and he shared it all in such an engaging way that we felt like we were exploring Hoi An with a friend rather than a tour guide. One of our favourite moments was visiting a beautiful organic farm, where we learnt how to make traditional rice crackers. Eating the crackers we’d made alongside an incredible pork salad and delicious stir-fried dishes at a nearby local restaurant was a real treat. We finished the evening with a wonderfully fresh fruit dessert, the perfect ending to an unforgettable experience. What made this tour so special wasn’t just the fantastic food—it was the opportunity to meet local people, visit places we would never have discovered by ourselves, and gain a genuine insight into life and culture in Hoi An. Leo’s enthusiasm is infectious, and his love for his city shines through in everything he does. Thank you, Leo, for giving us such wonderful memories. If you’re visiting Hoi An, don’t miss this tour—you’ll leave with a full stomach, a deeper appreciation of Vietnamese culture, and a big smile on your face. 10/10 – one of the very best experiences we’ve had in Vietnam. Highly recommended!
This tour is amazing!!! Sonny is a very respectful, friendly, & caring tour guide. He made our night flow easily based on our unique eating requirements & always made sure we felt comfortable. The delicous food we ate & the beautiful locals making it absolutely made our experience unforgettable. Thanks so much 🙏🏾
We had an unbelievable time with Sonny walking around old town, trying different hoi an only meals and having a lovely chat about hoi an history and the dishes. Would recommend to anyone looking for a full belly and good laughs!
The highlight of our tour was Andy, our guide. He was very kind, answered all of our questions, and was genuinely so nice to talk to. He explained to us the story behind Hoi An, interesting facts about the city and the history behind the food we were eating. We had some incredible dishes along the way, and had a lovely time. This was a great way to try a little bit of everything the city had to offer, that we could not have found on our own. We also loved getting out of the main tourist area and visiting the Vegetable Village, it felt like such an exclusive experience.
We had an amazing tour with our guide, Sonny! We enjoyed great food and delightful conversation while walking around Old Hoi An and the community garden. This was the perfect way to spend our last day in Vietnam. We are leaving this country feeling blissful and with our bellies full!
This was my second time doing a tour with A Chef's Tour. I previously did it in Bangkok and had such a great time, I decided to do it in Hoi An. It is well thought out, and we had a wonderful guide Quinn. She took us to spots we would never find on our own, and we were able to learn so much about Hoi An and Vietnamese culture. The food was great, the experience was interactive. I definitely recommend booking it and any other tours that A Chef's Tour has in other cities! I have tried other companies and it doesn't compare.
This was not your average food tour. Quin took us to many different places around Hoi An and not only did we eat amazing food, but we learned about the history, lineage, and culture of the food. We went to many places that you'd never find as a tourist. It truly felt special. Book this tour, you will not regret it!
A delightful evening with Quin and Cuong. Never rushed and happy to discuss life in Hoi An. Welcomed everywhere and a chance to see and explore places you would not know. Food was excellent (except for my effort!) and more than adequate. Definitely recommended.
Sonny, great guy, great food tour! Not many good tires will take you to an organic vegetable farm and let you play with fire! Expect the unexpected. Highly recommended!
Fabulous time with Sonny, sharing some great Hoi An specialties, thank you!
This tour is among our top three favourite Chef's Tour that we went on. The food was amazing and each bite was an explosion of flavour. We kept on eating even though we were full. The tour was made better by our wonderful guide Sonny. As his name suggests, Sonny had a very bright and positive vibe! He made the entire experience very entertaining with his charismatic personality! I hope everyone will be fortunate enough to have Sonny as their guide as your experience will definitely be elevated beyond just the good cuisine!
We had an amazing time with Andy, tasting what felt like the breadth and depth of the food on offer in Hoi An and the local area. He had a TON of knowledge to share with us on each dish, restaurant, and what was around it. We tasted things we would have never thought to have order (despite a lot of research prior), so really worth the time and money. Our favourite was the first dish with set a super high bar, but everything that followed was also amazing and Vietnamese food we’d never tried before, despite multiple previous trips. Delicious and an amazing way to beat the tourist crowds get to see more of the ‘true’ Hoi An with a super friendly local If we had any tips/advice… come hungry (skip lunch!) and check the weather forecast just to be sure. A Grab from Da Nang is inexpensive. Head to a local bar afterwards for a bit for cheaper Grab fares (8pm seems a peak time). And finally, book!! Don’t miss out on an awesome day ☺️ Thanks so much again Andy and team!
Excellent food tour, all the food was delicious and Sonny was an excellent guide. He gave lots of interesting information about all the food. Go hungry, you will eat A LOT!
Sonny was a great guide that shared a lot of history AND CULTURE OF VIETNAM, The food was excellent, very walkable! the People were all friendly and accommodating, we had a great time!!
I had an incredible food tour in Hoi An with Sonny as our guide. It was honestly one of the highlights of my trip to Vietnam! Sonny is not only friendly and professional, but also very knowledgeable about local culture and history. He explained the stories behind each dish, not just the ingredients. I loved learning how Hoi An’s trading history influenced its cuisine. We tried so many delicious local specialties such as cao lau, banh xeo, white rose dumplings, and the eggplant. Everything was authentic and carefully selected. Sonny also took us to small local spots that we would never find by ourselves. What made the experience special was Sonny’s energy and passion. He made everyone feel comfortable and welcomed, and his English was very clear and easy to understand. He also answered all our questions with patience and enthusiasm. If you are visiting Hoi An and want to explore the real local food scene, I highly recommend this food tour with Sonny. It’s more than just eating – it’s about culture, stories, and connection. Thank you, Sonny, for such a memorable evening!
Quin was super knowledgeable, very sweet, and really attentive. She explained things clearly, checked in with everyone, and made the whole experience feel easy and comfortable. What I loved most was how thoughtful the food selection was. You can tell a lot of care went into picking each stop, and together they tell a real story of Hoi An’s food culture. Every dish had a purpose. Honestly, it was probably the best food tour I’ve ever done. Highly recommend if you want a relaxed but high-quality food experience in Hoi An.
This tour taught me so much about the intimate a wonderful flavor of Vietnamese cuisine. Enjoyed meeting the locals. Look forward to dining out in more Vietnamese restaurants on my return back to North America
Brilliant and local. Loved going out of town for a bit too visit the local farm. The food was epic and the guide was so entertaining. Would say it's a must do for all foodies.
