We had a wonderful time with Marcelo. We made a cocktail then went I to the restaurant for a couple of tastings including alpaca sausages then went walked around the city and had more tastings of beef heart skewers, sweet and savory tamales and finished with the best donuts. Marcelo has a wonderful personality and runs a wonderful experience

Lovely experience of trying highlights of food and drinks of the Peruvian culture. It was raining, but we still had a great time.
We had a wonderful time on this food tour! I highly recommend this tour for anyone who wants to learn the cultural and historical significance behind some iconic Peruvian food. Our guide, Cristina was so friendly and knowledgeable. I felt like I learned so much and she answered all our questions. Both my husband and I were full by the end of the tour, so don't have a big meal beforehand. When we first arrived at the meeting place, the entry door was a bit hidden but we asked a staff member of the restaurant in the courtyard for help, and they were able to direct us to the correct place. All the food on the tour was delicious, and there was nothing extreme or too strange. We absolutely loved this experience.
If I could give this more than 5 stars, I would. Definitely the best tasting good or off all the food tours I've ever taken. I 100% recommend this!!! One little thing- it was a little hard for me to find. Once you get to the address, there is a small hallway to the back right of the courtyard. Go through there to find your trip :)
I went with a friend to the cooking class and we had from the first moment a fantastic and fun time with Jose! Jose is super knowledgable, fun and engaging. We could try the different Peruvian fruits, learn more about the history/culture and influences on the cuisine before we have prepared our own Ceviche, Lomo Saltado and Pisco Sour! If you are in Cusco and like food then this is a NO BRAINER!
We enjoyed our time on the tour immensely however, got incredibly sick that night and ended up going to a med clinic. We both had salmonella and a parasite. I think we would have been fine if we didn’t both eat the street food on the tour (our guide had assured us before that the food was safe). Overall, we were both sick for over a week and missed out on seeing as much of Cusco as we had hoped.
We meet at the cooking school and learned to make cocktails and mocktails and had a few delicious small apps, including ceviche, stuffed potato, and caramelized olives. I learned about pisco, ceviche, potatoes, and peruvian food. We walked and tasted a little street food (tamales and grilled heart), and ended at a cute spot for fried dough rings w honey. There was lots of food! I couldn't finish it all. Tasty and good.
This is a fun and informative tour with some amazing food! Fabricio was our guide and he made the evening special. He patiently answered all the questions we had about Peru and Peruvian cuisine. He even got us to try Guinea pig and llama sausage! Don’t miss this tour!
The entire tour was an experience, beginning with making Pisco Sours. The second stage was fresh trout and a wonderful potato dish like no other! The third was an experience tasting grilled meats, and lastly hot picones.
One of the better food tours I’ve had! Our tour guide Christina was amazing and extremely knowledgeable about Peruvian cuisine and culture! Tour started at a very nice restaurant where we changed rooms a couple of times and tried some fancy appetizers and Peruvian cocktails. After that we moved out in a town to try the street food!
Omg.. I can go on, & on about this tour; & to think I contemplated on whether or not to book it... Thank goodness I did!! My adult daughters, & I did the tour, & it was such a wonderful experience! Our tour guide Christina was so patient, kind, friendly, & knowledgeable. We really weren't expecting to take so many stops.. In addition to learning more about Peruvian cuisine; at the end of the night, we were stuffed, lol Please take this tour, & hopefully you'll get Christina... You won't regret it.
I primarily book tours through Viator when traveling, b/c they offer the best tours at the most competitive rates. The communication is top notch, and the tours are always well put together. This specific tour, was awesome.. We were running late (we got lost - Sigh!), however typical Viator, I was able to communicate with the tour guide, and she was able to direct us to where she was waiting. Our tour guide (Christina) was not only patient; she was kind, professional, knowledgeable, & had an overall awesome vibe. She took us to restaurants, and street vendors, offering one tasty dish after another. At the end of the night we were stuffed, and ended the night more knowledgeable about the delicious, unique foods of Cusco... Thank you Christina, I highly recommend this tour... Hopefully you'll have Christina as your guide, b/c simply put; she's awesome!
Christina was an amazing host and guide. She was very passionate about the history and culture behind the food and that made it a great experience. The food and drinks, both in the restaurant and on the street were amazing!
12/10!!! Not only did we try lots of amazing food, we had a wonderful time with our guide Elvira. She was incredibly knowledgeable about the food and agriculture of Peru, and was also such an interesting person.
This tour was AMAZING. My group and I had an amazing time learning about the history of Cusco, spending time with Christina & Bruce and eating amazing food! It really brought us out of our comfort zone and encouraged us to try food we wouldn’t have before! We made cocktails & had delicious small plates. We all left smiling ear to ear about how much fun we had! Highly recommend.
Our favorite tour of the trip. We learned about a few different Piscos as well as some great traditional meals. Anticuchos and picarrones were the best part!
Chef José Luis of Uchu restaurant met me at my hotel to take me on an awesome culinary journey through Peruvian food and culture. He prepared some delicious bites for me in the form of Cuy (guinea pig) prosciutto on one of the nearly 4000 varieties of potatoes, and an alpaca sausage with twice prepared potatoes to dip in a yellow sweet pepper sauce that I’m still thinking about over a week later….all washed down with a Chilcano (using Pisco) laced with my favorite fruit….passion fruit purée. It was an awesome start! We proceeded next door to Uchu to try an amazing ceviche and papas rellenas, mashed potatoes stuffed with peppers that were also flavor bombs! We then walked the streets of Cusco trying the street food hawkers wares (sweet tamales….Wow! & Picarones best described as a Peruvian donut made from (yet another) sweet potato variety and squash blossoms all doused in sugar cane syrup). How amazing those were!! The best part of the experience though was knowing that my financial contribution to this experience would benefit human awareness globally to combat ongoing pollution, illegal logging and other environmental issues in Peru that threaten the Amazon cloud forest which makes up nearly 40% of Peruvian territory and protects hundreds of species of birds specific to only certain areas in Peru. On top of tasting Peru in a few hours time I felt really good about doing my part to make sure my experience can be shared with many others after me.
I really enjoyed this culinary tour with Christina. Her knowledge of Peruvian food stems from her background as a chef. I enjoyed the history behind each dish as well. I was completely full, and a little happier with some pisco sour, by the 3rd stop, and had to make room for 2 more tastings!
Had an incredible time on this tour! Food was delicious and the guide was very kind and informative on both food and the city. Would absolutely recommend!
This was such a great tour. It was the perfect way to learn the streets of Cusco and the cocktails were amazing. Our guides were so friendly and so knowledgeable. I highly recommend.
Christina our guide was a great hostess. She shared her knowledge of the food its history in the region and the links to the present day culture in Peru. Delicious fun and interesting! A must do activity!
Christina’s welcomed us with passion fruit Pisco sours accompanied by delicious appetizers which reflected the local cuisine. She enthusiastically shared her love of food and impressed us with her expertise of Peruvian cuisine, food and culture ensuring we had a good introduction to the staples of Peruvian cuisine. We were able to sample restaurant dishes as well as typical street food as the evening went on. It was a great experience that capped off our visit to Cusco.
Fabrizio was excellent so much passion and knowledge about Cusco and the area around d as well as Peruvian history culture food and drinks. We seen a lot of the center city on our tour with a lot of knowledge to go with. I waited all day to eat on this tour and so happy I did the food was so good. We visited a small tamale stand that has been in business 100 years! Excellent experience safe friendly clean personable!
Christina was amazing. She was very knowledgeable and fun! We loved the way she works with the local vendors to improve their product and bring in more business.
Excellent food and drink pairings. Our guide was very knowledgeable about the food and culture of Peru and Cusco. She accommodated our needs as we were suffering from the altitude and recommended a great herbal remedy which helped. Despite our feeling slightly ill, we had a fantastic time.
Angelo was an exceptional tour guide; highly knowledgeable on both the culinary history of Peru and gastronomy in general. Definitely come hungry, you get a nice mix of high end faire at a restaurant and traditional street food with a couple cocktails thrown in. Highly recommend.
When we showed up, we leaned we were the only ones that night, so we got a private tour! Christina was a wonderful culinary guide. We loved all the selections and all the stops. We were stuffed by the end, go hungry! Thank you for a wonderful evening, we highly recommend!
We loved our food tour with Jose! We tried so many great local specialities - from pisco sours and chilcanos to ceviche, tamales, anticuchos, and piccarones! Our host Jose was amazing! He gave great overviews of Peruvian food and drinks, made sure we were having a great time, and offered great recommendations outside of the tour itself. We highly recommend taking this tour with Marcelo Batata group!
A very delicious tour with Rose Luis Who sublimates the tasting with his knowkledges on the peruvian cooking history Dominique et Daniel
Our wonderful guide took us to places with show case of local food. We learned so much along the walk and at each stop. The interaction with our friendly and knowledgeable guide was very nice as we learned stories of the the local buildings, people, life, food. Last but not the least, the food and drink selections was excellent that we enjoyed so much. We loved it and would recommend and come back!
We did the culinary tour with Alejandro our first night in Cusco- it was the PERFECT way to explore the city and taste delicious food! All of the restaurants were wonderful and authentic, especially Marcelo Batata and Uchu. We loved that there were specialty cocktails to go with each food pairing. The dessert at the end was the perfect way to end the evening. THANK YOU!
We booked this tour for a relaxing evening in Cusco the day we arrived to acclimate to the altitude. We loved the opportunity to try different kinds of Peruvian cuisine, from higher end dishes to street food. We learned so much about the ingredients in Peruvian dishes, the multicultural influences in Peruvian cooking, and about the culture in Peru in general. We went back to several of the restaurants/eateries later in our trip...really great tour guide (Alejandro).
We were eight days into our visit to Peru, so this tour both expanded upon and summarized the flavors and culture of the dishes we had already enjoyed for several days. We so appreciated Jose's passionate presentations -- especially of the fried pumpkin donuts! We have taken culinary tours as we have traveled around the world, and this tour was on a par with the fun we had in Paris. Gracias, Jose
Jose was an amazing tour guide for our food tour of Cusco! It was our first night in Peru, and this tour was a fantastic was to get acclimated, enjoy some amazing food, and experience the city! Jose was very knowledgeable about Peruvian history and culture as it related to gastronomy which made the delicious food taste even that much more amazing! We had a great night of enjoying different Peruvian appetizers, Pisco sours, street food and dessert! Would absolutely recommend and completely worth the money. My sister and I now feel more confident in finding restaurants and trying food in Cusco because of Jose! He is so nice and friendly, and really made us feel comfortable and welcome.
I have been on countless food tours around the world but this one definitely stood out as one of the top three that I've done. I booked this only the day before and Chef Jose was so quick to respond with the arrangement. On the day of the tour we were met by our guide Elvira, who was super knowledgeable about Peruvian history and gastronomy. She filled us in on so much interesting information while we filled our tummies with gorgeous restaurant-takes on traditional dishes like ceviche. We visited 3 lovely high-end restaurants and had 5 beautiful dishes and 3 kinds of drinks. Then we visited another 3 lovely street stalls for some unique Peruvian street food that I surely would have missed out on had I not joined this tour. The quality of the food was extremely high and we left the tour with so much love and appreciation for Peru. So glad I stumbled on this tour!
We did this tour our first night in Cusco as we were acclimating to the altitude. We found it to be a good start to learning about Cuzco/Peruvian history, as well as an opportunity to sample a LOT of Peruvian food and drinks in both resturants and on the streets. Plus... introduced me to Pisco Sours - which I enjoyed the rest of my time in Peru! We returned to a couple of the resturants during our stay. We feel we definitely got our money's worth out of this tour! Louise Dahl
Our group had a wonderful time learning how to make 3-types of ceviche. José Luis was witty, kind, funny and best of all an amazing teacher. We decided to take this class while we acclimated to the altitude before trekking Vinicunca and Macchu Pichu the day before. We made 1 trout ceviche, 1 quinoa ceviche, and one more trout ceviche in the traditional way. Through the class, we enjoyed Cusqueńa beer. If we ever make it back to Cusco, we will be back to try another class. Overall, it was a wonderful experience that was a great way to acclimate to the elevation while taking in the wonderful culture of Peru.
The thing is, you really need to do it. It is totally different to see Peru through the eyes of real Chefs. The whole experience was amazing. At the end of the tour we were happy as Larry. Thank you so much guys.
My friend and I did this tour on our second evening. Not only was the food fabulous, but we learned a ton of Peruvian history (culinary and otherwise), and got to know that area of the city a bit better. The ceviche was amazing! We had it again on our last day. Highly recommend this as an intro to Cusco.
I 100% concur w. April K, can't recommend this enough. We had such amazing food and such diversity of dishes. DO NOT EAT before you go, there is SO much delicious food and drinks along the tour. We had Alejandro as our guide and he was spectacular. Full of interesting information and so friendly. One of the best experiences we have had in Peru. Everyone should try this. One thing, and it's not a about the tour - the third party booking group Viator- asks if you want pick up from your hotel/hostel, etc. The tour does NOT offer this and they can't get Viator to take this option off of their website. We were in close proximity so it didn't matter in our case, but it would be a shame for someone else to miss this fabulous experience due to Viator's error.
This tour is amazing! Our group (six of us) took this tour and every one of us loved it. Our chef guide Jose was wonderful. Along with his extensive knowledge of the local cuisine, he also taught us about the culture and history of the country and how this influenced the food. By the end, we felt we could step away from the "touristy" idea of Peruvian food and truly enjoy the real thing!!
It was a wonderful and rewarding experience. Cristina, with her knowledge and affection, made me much more in love with the culture of Peru. Just thank you!
Excellent experience. Chef Alejandro presented us with a lot of history and taste. Wonderful restaurants, refined drinks and a very pleasant evening on the streets of Cusco. More than trying Peruvian cuisine, it was a dive into the origin of food and the formation of flavors.
Excellent! Alejandro was an excellent host. He took us through the history of Peruvian food. I learned a lot and then when reading menus in restaurants I didn’t have to ask about the meals. I knew what was causing, stuffed potato, anticuchos, ceviche etc. And above all, I learned that pisco is Peruvian. Thank you!
