This was our favorite part of our trip to Cusco. The ATVs are so fun, and the ride up to rainbow mountain is beautiful! The guides do a great job of making it a fun experience.
Amazing experience with a great guide. This was on the back of the Salkantay trek and was phenomenal. The ATVs were a lot of fun and allowed a great opportunity to easily reach Red Valley, Rainbow mountain and the glacier. Stunning views. Would thoroughly recommend this experience and company!
Great tour. Great experience to challenge yourself
It was a great experience with Erick to explore the rainbow mountain and red valley The breakfast and lunch were delicious
Unfortunately, I would not recommend this company based on our experience with the Rainbow Mountain ATV tour. The entire experience felt disorganized from the beginning\. We were given semi-automatic ATVs with very little instruction on how to properly operate them. During the practice session, I was having difficulty with the ATV and kept stalling. Instead of taking the time to explain what I was doing wrong or showing me how to correct it, the instructor, Franklin, yelled at me. At another point, Franklin went over to my husband to tell him that I was doing something wrong rather than coming to me directly and helping me understand what I needed to do differently. That was incredibly frustrating and disrespectful. If someone is clearly struggling with unfamiliar equipment, especially an ATV, the appropriate response is to teach them—not yell at them. I would have been completely willing to listen and learn. If someone had simply explained how to properly operate the semi-automatic ATV and helped me understand why I kept stalling, the situation likely could have been resolved very quickly. There were also unclear safety instructions during the ride. We were never told how much distance to maintain between the ATVs. At one point, the driver in front of me stopped abruptly, and I bumped into the back of their ATV. Clear instructions about following distance and what to do if someone stops suddenly would have helped prevent this situation. Communication throughout the tour was also poor and often seemed lost in translation. There was very little organization, and we were not clearly told how much time we had at each location or what the schedule was. We often felt like we did not know what was happening next. Most importantly, the disrespect I experienced significantly changed the entire experience for me. I was already frustrated and uncomfortable because I was struggling with unfamiliar equipment, but being yelled at instead of helped made me feel embarrassed and upset. I could not get past the way I was treated, and as a result, I was unable to fully enjoy the tour or Rainbow Mountain as I normally would have. The experience changed what should have been an exciting and enjoyable activity into one that I will remember negatively. Rainbow Mountain itself was beautiful, and we were excited about doing the ATV experience, which makes the poor service even more disappointing. A tour involving ATVs should prioritize clear instruction, patience, safety, and respectful communication—especially when guests may have little or no experience operating that particular type of ATV. Franklin’s behavior toward me was rude and unprofessional. There is absolutely no reason for an instructor to yell at a guest who is trying to learn. I would not recommend this company based on the lack of instruction, organization, communication, and professionalism we experienced.
The tour was well run with pick up on time, good breakfast & lunch provided. The quad bikes weren't a problem for us as we were experienced so it was a little tame as you follow along in single file with other people who have never ridden one. Be prepared for the red dust, pack a face buff & your cold weather clothes for up the top of the mountain. Only downside was my husband's bike kept wanting to stall on the uphill so that was a bit annoying. Overall a good tour though and good value for money.
Sun. Sept. 20th, 2026: Pickup was on time. Great driver. The tour guides Eric and Jorge were really efficient. Food was really good. It's cold there in the morning, dress warm! The guides made sure we got to where we were going very efficiently and security-minded at all times, like shepherds and we tgeir flock. ATV ride was fun and scenic, with some stops for photos. If you are tired or not used to hiking, can grab a horse for 60 soles one-way then a motorcycle to near the top for 30 soles. Beautiful sunny day and lots of fun was had by all! Met some great people and wish them all the best. John from Canada
We had an amazing ATV trip to Rainbow Mountain and Red Valley! Everything was well organized, the views were absolutely incredible, and riding the ATVs made the experience even more fun and exciting. Our guide, Saddain, was fantastic—very friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. He made sure we were comfortable and had a great time throughout the entire trip. Overall, it was an unforgettable experience and definitely one of the highlights of our Peru trip. Highly recommended! 🏔️🏍️🇵🇪
**Incredible experience — but PLEASE use a different tour company** The ATV experience, Red Valley, and Rainbow Mountain were absolutely incredible. The scenery was indescribable, and the ATV portion was fun and exhilarating. I would highly recommend doing this excursion while in Peru — **just do yourself a favor and book it through a different company.** I did several hiking excursions while in Peru with different tour companies, and unfortunately, this was one of the ones I would strongly recommend avoiding. The communication and pre-tour information from this company was extremely poor and, frankly, concerning. Our booking confirmation stated that our pickup time was **4:00 AM**, yet we were not notified until approximately **11:00 PM the night before** that our actual pickup time would be **3:15 AM**. Giving customers less than five hours' notice of a significantly earlier pickup time is unacceptable, especially when the entire excursion involves traveling and hiking at very high elevations. The lack of useful information continued once we were picked up. It wasn't until we were on the bus, on the way to breakfast, that we were finally given an overview of the day and told what gear we would need. Many of us had packed appropriately for Peru and had brought hiking gear, but **none of us had brought the specific items they were telling us we needed because the company had never communicated this information to us.** Conveniently, there was a man selling the exact gear we were suddenly told we needed at the breakfast stop. We ended up purchasing several items from him. At that point, the entire experience began to feel extremely unprofessional. More importantly, because we were about to participate in a physically demanding excursion at **very high altitude**, the lack of preparation and communication created a genuine sense of anxiety about whether we could trust this company to keep us safe. We pushed through, and thankfully, the actual excursion itself was spectacular. However, our concerns were unfortunately validated later in the day when we saw our tour guides **receiving what appeared to be a cut/payment from the man who had sold us the additional gear that morning.** Given the circumstances, this was extremely troubling. I cannot say with certainty what the arrangement was, but seeing this made the earlier lack of communication about the required gear feel far less like an oversight and much more like a deliberate practice designed to create an opportunity for additional sales. That completely changed how I viewed the experience. Again, **the actual sights and ATV experience were amazing.** Red Valley and Rainbow Mountain were highlights of our entire trip to Peru and absolutely worth doing. But a beautiful destination does not make up for a tour operator that leaves customers uninformed and questioning whether they can trust the people responsible for them. **My strongest recommendation: DO THIS EXCURSION, BUT BOOK IT WITH ANOTHER COMPANY.** I am also extremely disappointed in **Tripadvisor** for promoting and facilitating bookings for a tour operator with this kind of experience. I relied on Tripadvisor to help identify reputable excursion companies, particularly for an activity involving significant altitude and safety considerations. After this experience, I will be very hesitant to use Tripadvisor to book excursions in the future. The destination gets **5 stars**. The ATV experience gets **5 stars**. The tour company gets **1 star — and only because zero isn't an option.** Please don't let a spectacular destination convince you to overlook the importance of choosing a trustworthy operator.
It was so unorganized. Nobody reached out to me with pick up details, so the day before my trip, I reached out to them via Viator chat. They said they were going to reach out to me in the evening and didn’t provide me any details about pick up. At 7 pm, I called the number on Viator and the guy told me the pick up is 3:40 am. As I’m trying to sleep, I get a message from the tour guide after 9 pm saying the pick up will be between 3-3:15 am. I sent him the screenshot of the other conversation and he said he will make 3:40 work. When I woke up, I saw another message from the first guy saying the pick up will be at 3:20. Mind you, this is a super early pick up, so you need to have this detail ahead of time in order to wake up early enough to be ready on time. We rushed and made 3:20 work. They showed up at 3:42 am… I’ve never seen any tours that were disorganized before. We also selected English tour but most of the group was Spanish speakers so it was hard to follow up. Overall experience was not great.
The BEST day ever! Grimaldo was our guide and I cannot say enough good things about him. Right from pickup to the drop off, Grimaldo took great care and made sure we had the best experience. I got altitude sickness after the hike and he was very attentive and took great care of me. Very Highly recommend ATV Rainbow Mountain tours and Grimaldo for tour tide. Best day!
Sideways snow and crazy winds but cool to see - loved the ATVs
I’m sure for other days, this would be a great tour. However, it should have been canceled for safety reasons of weather the day we went. Many in our group decided to turn around for safety reasons and were not prepared or advised appropriately. Additionally, many unexpected aspects of the tour day (not per Viator) made it difficult in an already not great situation. The people were nice at least, and maybe on a better day would be a better experience.
I literally cannot imagine this trip going any better. Grimaldo and the guides went above and beyond every step of the way! We rode ATVs for so long all the way up the mountain and back down. Then we hiked to the peak. Grimaldo would make constant stops to allow us to take photos and even insist on taking photos of all the people who were travelling solo. At no point were we ever pressured into anything and it genuinely felt like their top priority every second of the trip was for us to have a great time. You don't see that often these days. If you're on the fence, don't even give it a second's thought and just pull the trigger.
This ATV tour to Rainbow Mountain and Red Valley was one of the highlights of my Peru trip! This tour made the early wake-up call and colder-than-expected morning temperature 100% worth it. The ATV ride was so much fun, and the scenery along the way was absolutely unreal; I saw herds of llamas and alpacas and landscapes that you wouldn’t experience unless you took the ATV route. A huge shoutout to our guide, José José! He was friendly, knowledgeable, patient, and encouraging throughout the tour. Since ATVs can't reach the summit, there's a short hike at high altitude, and he made sure everyone in our group made it up safely. He also took amazing photos for us! My only suggestion for improvement is the communication before the tour. I booked in April but didn't receive any confirmation or pre-tour information, so I had to contact the company myself the day before to confirm my reservation, pickup details, and other information, which was unlike other tours in Peru that reached out proactively. That said, the tour itself more than made up for it. I had an amazing time and would definitely recommend X Travel Peru and José José to anyone visiting Rainbow Mountain! P.S. Prepare for lots and lots of dust!
Taking a tourist bus to the Rainbow Mountains does a massive disservice to the jaw-dropping landscape around Vinicunca. Having the ability to ride up the mountain via ATV meant you got to see firsthand all aspects of the landscape. Erick, our guide, made the experience safe and explained all facets of the activity during the day. My only critique would be having more frequent stops along the way up and down to take scenic photos with the ATVs.
Our Rainbow mountain ATV tour was the perfect mixture of adrenaline, exercise and awe. Tour starts early - 3.30 am start. A tourist bus takes you to the ATV base. Quick lesson and then off. Takes about 1 hour to get to the bottom of RM and then you can either walk, jump on the back of a motorcycle or get led up on horseback. Local guides are literally running up and down the mountain leading horses. We elected to walk. The altitude turned a quick hike into something much harder but our amazing guide, Grimaldo, coaxed and encouraged us every step, while taking photos constantly. It was such a buzz to make it. Thanks everyone for making it happen.
The entire tour was perfect, from communication the day before, pickup, breakfast and lunch, but the highlight was our tour guide Grimaldo. He is very conscious, caring, knowledgeable and most importantly very friendly and personable. Grimaldo made the day extra special. I highly recommend this company and Grimaldo. Congratulations on the care that you put into your profession! Furte abrazo Grimaldo.
We rode with Ysmael as our tour guide and Reuben as our driver. We booked a private tour, they were very accommodating about picking us up at a time of our choosing. Ysmael was a very patient tour guide, answering all of our questions and he was very friendly and knowledgeable about the area. Overall the ATV tour was a ton of fun and we would highly recommend it to anyone who wants to go to Vinicunca (Rainbow Mountain). Don’t forget your sunscreen or gloves.
We did a private tour through X Travel Peru. Our guide, Jose Jose, was fantastic! Everything, from the pickup, to the ATV tour, to hiking the mountain, was smooth and well worth it. Would highly recommend to anyone visiting Cusco.
Wonderful ATV tour with Christian across the Red Valley. Stunning views, fully functional ATVs, quick and informative training session. Followed by a gorgeous hike to the Rainbow Mountain. I loved the route we chose, had lots of fun. Will never forget! P. S. the buffet was the best I've had in any tour in Peru.
This was such a fun and wonderful experience. Our tour guides, Ysmael and Cristian, were super helpful and informative. The Rainbow Mountain and Red Valley were beautiful. I couldn't have thought of a better way to experience this other than the ATVs and short hike! I definitely recommend taking it slow as the high altitude can really affect you. Luckily our tour guides were patient and helpful in getting us to the top. They took some great pictures. Super convenient being picked up, dropped off, getting breakfast and lunch. Bring warm clothes!
We got picked up by Jose at 8am. It was a 3 hour drive to the start point with a stop for breakfast en route. You need 45 soles in cash for entry to the Red Valley. The 45 minutes of quad biking through the Red Valley was beautiful. It’s then only 30 minutes walk to the top of Rainbow Mountain. It was the same route back to Cusco arriving just after 7 with a hot lunch provided before the drive back. Jose was a brilliant informative guide with great English. Doing the later start allows you to get more sleep and it is quieter at the top of rainbow mountain.
ATV ride was a brilliant way to see the Red Valley. Very well organised day and great food provided enroute. José was amazing! Super helpful and very informative guide with excellent English. Would recommend the later tour start at 8am to avoid crowds at the summit of Rainbow Mountain.
This tour was an incredible experience! My family embarked on a sacred valley tour, Machu Picchu tour, and the Rainbow Mountains tour, and this was our favorite of the three, although all were fantastic. Jose, our guide, provided excellent instruction on the ATVs and was incredibly knowledgeable about the Red Valley and Rainbow Mountains. We were thrilled to discover that his tour began at the base of the valley, unlike most tours that start further up. This gave us more time on the ATVs and a chance to explore the Red Valley thoroughly. Although we were a bit nervous about the altitude, we had taken altitude medicine several days before the trip and acclimated in Cusco for three days. While we still needed to pace ourselves during the hiking portion, Jose ensured we were doing so and taking breaks along the way. Both the breakfast and lunch at the camp were delicious. Our day began at 3:45 am in Cusco and we returned around 4 pm, making it a long day, but well worth it. We were fortunate that the weather was clear during the tour. The landscape was surreal and breathtaking. Since we chose to do the tour towards the end of the rainy season, the vegetation was vibrant and striking, contrasting beautifully with the red soil. If you’re looking for a tour of the Red Valley and Rainbow Mountains, book this experience. You won’t regret it. Thank you, Jose, for the amazing day and the memories we created together!
Amazing experience! ATV ride up to rainbow mountain had beautiful views. Our guide, Jimmy, was wonderful! He was so kind and made sure we were comfortable and having a great time. He is also a master picture taker and got all the great angles 📸 Would absolutely recommend
I went to Peru with my family and one of the tours I liked a lot was the ATV tour to the Red Valley. The adventure, the views, the whole scenery of these mountains were very beautiful. We had a lucky day, it didn't rain. It was tiring, but our guide Jose José helped us a lot on this tour. Thank you very much 😊.
We did a private tour with 2 ATVs. Our guide, Jose, was very patient and attentive and he even helped carry our son for some of the walk up the mountain. 100% recommended. The ATVs were fun to ride and the the Red Valley views along the way were gorgeous (no pics because I was driving). Be prepared for any weather, even if it's sunny at the base.
We did the Rainbow Mountain tour with quads and unfortunately the experience was quite mixed. First of all, this tour should not take place during the rainy season. When it’s cloudy, rainy, or snowing you often cannot see the colors of Rainbow Mountain at all, which defeats the purpose of visiting. In those conditions the trip really loses its value and should be rescheduled. Bad weather also makes the route dangerous for inexperienced quad drivers. The terrain becomes slippery and visibility is poor, which makes the ride stressful rather than enjoyable. The organization could also be improved. The tour could easily start 1–2 hours later, and 2–3 short scenic stops along the route would allow people to enjoy the landscape and take photos. Another issue was the lack of basic support. We were told that oxygen shots were available, but when we asked for them there were none. Another couple in the group didn’t feel well due to the altitude and wanted oxygen, but since none was available they had to wait about 1.5 hours next to the quads in freezing cold rain by themselves. After riding down through the cold and wet conditions, it would also have been nice to at least get water or a hot tea, but nothing was provided. Because of all this, the tour felt far too expensive for what you actually get. To be fair, the food was good and the guides were clearly trying their best, which we appreciated. If you still decide to do it, bring dry clothes — you will likely need them.
If the weather is bad/snowy then the rainbow colours might not be visible. It's a 13 hour trip. 3.40am pick up. It takes hours to get there. Breakfast and lunch are good. The quad bike part of the trip was great. The altitude can be a problem for some people.
After booking this tour, I got the basic message. Had set it up to pick up from my hotel at 4 am. I was in the lobby at 3:50 am. Nobody there. So I waited and people started coming down and getting on their tour buses. Nothing for me though. Comes to 4:45 and I try contacting the tour guide. None of the provided numbers worked. 5:15 and so I try to message them through TripAdvisor. Still no response. As far as I'm concerned, they are a scam and would never deal with them again.
We had an excellent experience thanks to our tour guide, Ysmal, who managed to handle our rush booking and all of our last-minute changes with a lot of patience and flexibility. Even though we were seriously unprepared, he was always one step ahead as he found the best solutions with locals in Spanish for us and support. We even changed our plan on the go. We truly felt taken care of the entire time. Our driver, René, drove safely and and kept the bus perfectly clean throughout the trip that made the journey even more enjoyable. Fantastic service — 10/10. We would gladly recommend both of them to everyone.
It‘s really worth to visit the red valley as well as the rainbow mountains. It’s a very impressice landscape. Very vell organised and flexible. Jose was a very nice and professional guide. Fully recommandable tour.
A truly special experience! Jose Jose is a fantastic tour guide and an amazing human being! We feel blessed to have spent the day with him and he literally took us on the “road less travelled”! We were alone with no tourist buses and it was an immersive and local experience. We 4x4 through peaceful valleys with llama’s & Alpaca’s & up mountains on this private tour. For an incredible experience, make sure to book this tour and definitely request Jose Jose to be your guide!!! Thank you!
Great experience. Guide was very helpful and attentive. He helped us with all our issues on the ATV’s. Helped us find best places for photos and was very very patient. First time using an ATV and he could not have helped more. They also helped me get to the airport on time and were very patient with me. Would recommend them to anyone wanting to do the tour on ATV’s.
Best way to do rainbow mountain is to start with red mountain and go up the valley by ATV. Incredible scenery and no crowds of tourists. Jose was an amazing guide that went above and beyond to make sure everything was ok and everyone was happy. Must-do experience while in Cusco
This tour combines adrenaline, stunning landscapes, and great company! The ATV ride was so much fun, and the views were out of this world. It was amazing to ride through the remote Andean landscapes and then arrive at Rainbow Mountain feeling energized rather than exhausted. The Red Valley was even more stunning in person.
The tour was well-organized, the guides were friendly and knowledgeable, and the landscapes were unlike anything I’ve ever seen. The ATVs made the trip adventurous but still manageable, even for beginners. Reaching the viewpoint and seeing the vibrant colors of Rainbow Mountain and the deep red hues of the valley was a surreal experience. Would 100% do this again!
We had a great time on the ATV’s it was a fun way to get to rainbow mountain. We also had a great visit to the mountain. The food was decent but we found there were constant delays. We got picked up at 3:30am and were told we would be home by 4/4:30pm and we didn’t get back till 7:30pm. Our guide would chat with villagers while we waited on running 4 wheelers for 15-30 min (several times). The driver made us a little nervous with some of the cliffs we were driving on and how close he got to the edge. They do charge to use bathrooms where you pick up the ATV’s so plan for that. We loved red valley and would do it again but maybe with a tour that used time a little more efficiently.
The scenery along the way was unreal, snow-capped peaks, wild llamas, and endless valleys. The Red Valley was even more beautiful than I expected! Our guide was professional and patient, making sure everyone felt comfortable on the ATVs. Highly recommend this tour!
This tour was amazing from start to finish. The ATVs were in great condition, the guides were professional, and the scenery was mind-blowing. A great alternative to hiking for those who want a bit more adventure!
I loved every minute of this tour! The ATV ride was exciting, and the views of the Red Valley and Mountain of Colors were like something out of a dream. If you’re in Cusco, don’t miss this!
The landscapes on this tour are unreal! Riding an ATV allowed us to cover more ground and enjoy the stunning scenery without getting too exhausted. The guides were helpful and made sure we had a safe and enjoyable experience.
Rene was great :) very helpful with the tour made things really easy and simple and took great pictures very knowledgeable
The combination of adventure and natural beauty on this tour was incredible. Riding through the valleys and mountains on an ATV made the journey even more fun. A well-organized tour with friendly guides, definitely a highlight of my trip!
The ride was exciting but not too difficult, and the views were absolutely worth it. Our guide was knowledgeable and made the trip even more enjoyable! Highly recommend this company!
Insane views and super fun on the ATV. Also good for beginners who never were on an ATV. Generally very recomendable. I recommend checking the weather though.
Amazing timing by the tour guide Christian, brought us in with utmost care and explained everything step by step. We thoroughly enjoyed the entire experience
Had the most amazing time with Jose our guide. He was informative and helpful as a newbie on an ATV! He was attentive and it was a great trip! Also helped with the high altitude with his special trick of cocoa leaves and mint. It’s definitely worth the day trip, the views are amazing, and we came up a special route which had much less tourists which was a plus! Many thanks again to Jose and team.
