From the moment we booked the trek we were kept up to date and well informed. We originally booked the Classic Inca Trail but it was unfortunately closed due to land slides and Action Peru Treks offered us several alternatives to fit into our schedule. We chose the Salkantay Trek because it also included some trekking through Inca trails. Everything about the trek ran like clockwork and was so well organized. Our guide Eddie ( the Eagle) treated us like family and was such an encouragement especially on the days when the going was a little tougher than expected. The food was delicious and we never went hungry. You do need to be quite fit for this trek and it is essential that you give yourself time to acclimatize to the altitude before setting off. I cannot recommend Action Peru Treks highly enough. They made the experience feel even more special and personal than I could have imagined.

The first thing we will do is hike up to Umantay Lake. After enjoying the beauty, we will hike back down to Soraypampa and begin the trek. The hike today is uphill from Soraypampa to Ichupata (14,104 ft) in the upper valley. This is a 5 to 6 hour hike. Along the way we will pass Salkantaypampa, which is our lunch spot. Breathtaking in every sense of the word! This was the best trip we’ve done in South America! The tour groups are small of up to 6 people (ours had 2 couples), which means you bond with the guides and other hikers. We had Lino as our guide who had 20 years of experience hiking Salkantay and had lots of wisdom to share with us, including the best places to spot wildlife, teaching us about the plant life and the history of the trails. The first day was tough, but Lino helped us pace ourselves and had lots of breaks, so the trek was adaptable to different levels, but be prepared to be out of breath! At the end of the second day, we went to a local hot spring to recover, which was recommended by Lino as it was quieter than the hot springs in Aguas Calientes. Lino stayed with us the whole time, and also guided us through Machu Picchu sharing so much interesting historical information with such passion. You can tell he loves this job. My advice for people doing this trek is to get to know your guide. We did, and it really made our trip special. We got to learn about our guides family, education, and sense of humour, which meant we shared laughter for the entirety of the trip. Would 100% do this again. Miss you already Lino!
Everything was organised perfectly and the scenery was incredible. Our tour guide Lino was the best we could have hoped for. Day 1 was really difficult but so rewarding. Lino is so passionate about his countries history so we learn a lot from him. The whole experience couldn’t have been better we’re so glad we chose Action Peru Treks.
Action Peru Treks is one of the best trekking companies to Machu Picchu. The company offers experienced guides, quality equipment, and affordable options. My wife and I did the 4-day Salkantay Trek with Action Peru Treks in September 2023. The trek starts in Cusco and ends in Machu Picchu. Along the way, we had the opportunity to see the stunning views of the Andes Mountains, meet the local people, and learn about Peruvian culture. Our guides, Pedro and Carlos, were very experienced and knowledgeable. They gave us all the information we needed throughout the hike and helped us with any problems we had. Our equipment was also very good and provided us with all the support we needed for the hike. The trek was challenging but also very rewarding. We had a lot of fun throughout the hike and will never forget the feeling we had when we arrived in Machu Picchu. I highly recommend Action Peru Treks. If you are going to Peru and want to do a trek to Machu Picchu, this company is a perfect choice.
We recently joined the 4-day Salkantay Trek with Action Peru Treks, and it's hard to put into words what an amazing experience it was. We explored the stunning beauty of nature and history, met a wonderful team, and had one of the most unforgettable journeys of our lives. The trek starts in Cusco and ends in Machu Picchu. Along the way, we saw the breathtaking views of the Andes Mountains, the ruins of the Inca civilization, and the cascading waterfalls. Our guides were there to help us every step of the way, and they shared Peru's rich history and culture with us. The trekking was challenging, but it was definitely worth it. Along the way, we met a wonderful team that helped us through all kinds of challenges. We supported each other and completed this challenging journey together. We highly recommend Action Peru Treks. They have a professional and experienced team, and they offer a great way to explore Peru.
After doing so much research on the internet I came across Action Peru Treks and I’ve booked my trek thought them. The booking process was very easy and fast. Our guide for our trek was Lino and he was very knowledgeable and supportive during the 5 day trek. This tour company provides a top-notch service from start to finish. Highly recommended!
The Inca Trail trip was the most amazing thing I have ever done in my life!! It was tough but so rewarding and has inspired me to do more adventures of this nature now. The complete support from the trekking company to the guide and porters were absolutely excellent. To watch how hard the Porter's work carrying everything from the toilet to pretty much the kitchen equipment! These guys are so inspirational and they are absolutely the best! Our guide Lino was outstanding from start to end, constantly checking up on every hiker of the group, being very knowledgeable of the local history and very warm and welcoming at all times. Try to be in a certain level of fitness before as this will help make the trek easier. Make sure you also bring appropiate clothing for the hot and cold weather along the trek.
An excellent option for trekking to Machu Picchu. The views along the trek were dramatic and out of this planet. Very recommended! Make sure you arrive in Cusco for at least 2 days prior to the trek so you can acclimatize properly to the altitude before you are off to the trek. This is a challenging trek but it offers fantastic views and you really experience the real off the beaten path trek to Machu Picchu.
An amazing experience with Christian, our guide always on hand to support and share his extensive knowledge during the trek. Also the meals prepared by their chef exceeded all our expectations. Would definitely recommend this trek!
Honestly the tour and it's operators were excellent. Roxner, Christian and Eddy. I really enjoyed the time and level of care they put in, food was very good , activities well chosen and planned down to the last details. I can't recommend the guys at Action Peru Trek enough when visiting Peru these guys are the best choice.
Thanks Action Peru for an amazing trip. The information, service and care was brilliant from start to finish. The Sacred city, Salkantay and Machu Picchu are beautiful. With tummy bugs plaguing us, you managed to still make it achievable, enjoyable and memorable for the right reasons.
Wow wow wow. I was absolutely blown away by this experience. The whole trip was amazing from start to finish and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend. Communication was brilliant from the minute I booked. All instructions were helpful and clear and Roxner is extremely fast at responding when questions arise. Our guide was super knowledgeable and great fun - I felt safe and looked after at all times. The trek itself is challenging but totally doable with the support of the excellent Action Peru team (the food will keep you going!!!!) - do not hesitate to book this trip!!!
The best food I have ever ate, the best trip I have ever been on and the best team I have ever been a part of. I cannot recommend enough!
An exceptional trek led by Action Peru Treks. The itinerary was well planned and perfectly executed by an experienced team of local guides, porters, chefs and drivers. The tents, mattresses and equipment provided were clean and sufficient. Our guides Christian and Eddy were enthusiastic, very knowledgeable and accommodating, ensuring that everyone is well taken care off even when unable to do a hike. The quality of the meals were way above my expectations and I could tell that the chefs took pride in their work. I can't recommend Action Peru Treks enough!
Highly recommend! Attentive, knowledgeable & friendly guides, great food, a stunning landscape and we made some brilliant new friends. If you’re up for a challenging adventure, Machu Picchu is a great destination - but the journey is what makes this the perfect trip. Shout out to Christian and Eddy, “tupananchiskama” guys!
This trip was amazing, so well organised, beautiful trails, great equipment, knowledgable and talented guides and chefs. Each day was different, with different terrains and views, our guide Lino always made sure we knew what was ahead and what clothing and essentials we would need. Lino was so passionate about the Peruvian culture and environment and explained all the different sites and plants, he ensured we stayed well hydrated and took appropriate rest. The food throughout the trip was excellent and abundant. The tents were well maintained and we were provided with a mattress, pillow and blanket. I would highly recommend this company and this trek.
All great very well organized, great guides nice clean tent and good camp sites. If have a good weather each day is your chance to see the Milky Way
The entire trip from when we arrived in Cusco on the Saturday through to returning to Cusco on the Friday was incredible! So well organised, fantastic guide in Lino, great food and service provided by our chefs and horse keepers. Being woken in the morning with a hot cup of coca tea was such a treat, especially after the chilly first night of camping! Would definitely recommend this company to others and specifically this trek - a combination of fairly challenging ascents and descents via snow-capped mountains, cougar- and condor-country, and rainforest. A real adventure!
Completed the 4n/5d salkantay trek inc Machu Picchu. Best experience of my life. Incredible trail, amazing views including humantay lake, salkantay mountain and sup-tropical forests. our guides, Christian and Lourdes, were absolutely excellent - incredibly helpful, competent, organised, informative, passionate, and all round very very nice people. Highly recommend.
What an incredible experience! We were made to feel so welcome the entire 5 days, the food was great and all the staff were very nice and welcoming. Christian is an amazing tour guide, very kind, caring and attentive and an all round great guy! He made the trip for us. Thank you for such an amazing time, would highly recommend Action Peru Treks for anyone wanting to do organised hikes in Peru.
Traveling to and through unknown country can be stressful and intimidating, especially with kids, but Action Treks Peru made our trip easy and stress free. I cannot recommend them highly enough. We spent five days traveling with our guides and all of the logistics were handled beautifully. The vans, buses and trains were spotless and well maintained and the drivers professional, patient, safe and right on time. We had a conflict with our original briefing and Roxnar adjusted the schedule to fit ours. The structure of our trip was better planned and executed than many others about which I’ve heard and read. Everyone involved with Action Treks is very knowledgeable, kind, and exceptional at explaining what to expect, which is very helpful when undertaking big challenges with kids. The porters and cooks were fantastic and fun. We played frisbee and football with them as we met them, by name, and gave them small gifts for their kids. It was a great moment in life. Our guides, Christian, Miguel and Hans, made our journey. Each of them are fun, funny, kind and caring. Listening to Christian’s lessons all along the journey was really wonderful. He is a mix of the best history professor and most interesting story teller. They were patient and attentive. We had nine kids on our trek and they never seemed frustrated or stressed. Put your trust and faith in Action Treks Peru and you won’t be disappointed!
I loved our guide and the porters they were so sweet and were amazing. I think it is really important that people choose to go on this hike with a company owned by a Peruvian because the people get treated better which improves your experience. Prepare for a difficult hike but it is a million times worth it and Action Peru organizes everything so well that you don’t need to panic and buy tickets for all the different places.
Action Peru were brilliant- can’t rate them highly enough. Our guide Vallerio was fantastic, so friendly, encouraging, a fount of knowledge and generally excellent company. Patricio our chef was an absolute genius, whipping up cakes and soups and steak and bespoke vegetarian options for me in crazy conditions. We were advised to choose this trail because of the closure of the Inca trail and the general wet weather at this time of year and it was absolutely stunning. We also had the whole route to ourselves which was rather amazing. It was very wet one day but we also had some incredible clear views of the mountains on another so we felt very lucky. Quite a spectacular experience climbing up to 5200m in the snow then hiking down through all the different mountain climates ending up in the semi tropical cloud forest below!
This Salkantay Trail is not for the faint of heart. But the views are heart stoppingly beautiful. The highest elevation approaching 15900 feet is a challenge for hikers who have not trained at elevation. It will test you physically and mentally. My wife (57), my daughter (25), and I (58) took this trip in early October with Action Peru Trek. I would not recommend this trail to those who have not done at least some conditioning. It's strenuous and you are truly in the remote wilderness for easily two full days. The trail support crew were stupendous, exemplary, crazy good. I felt as though they really truly wanted us to have a great memory. At no time did I not feel comfortable nor in danger. They were supportive, patient, & friendly. What more can I say. Our support crew for three trekkers were comprised of our guide, Nilton; our chief, Dino; the sous chef Mario; and two horseman, Wilbur and Flor. Need I mention our important pack animals I think there were 5. Tormento and Obero were the special ones who carried my wife a couple times to speed up progress on the trail when the terrain got rugged. This ratio of support crew to trekkers was a bit generous to our benefit but I didn''t complain. At every stop the crew would setup and tear down all tents and gear. as if by magic we'd arrive at a tent site and our tents would be erected and dinner would be ready to eat. Then magically we'd start to hike to the next stop and again the crew would rapidly tear down a site and reappear at the new location with the new site set up and ready for another meal. These magicians navigated the terrain like billy goats, swift and sure-footed. Nilton, our guide was knowledgeable about the culture and the people of this region and shared what he knew openly and frequently during our trip. If I recall, he is native Peruvian with Inca heritage and had substantial insight into the ancient Inca history as well as modern Peruvian history. Nilton shared with us interpretations of the ruins architecture, native plants, and natural medicines, and folklore. Our chef, Dino, sous chef Mario prepared three course meals that one would expect in a restaurant, not on the trail. The food quality, diversity, and presentation were pleasantly unexpected making it exciting to find out what they had up their sleeves next, They even cooked a decorated two layer cake with icing for one of our desserts while on the trail. Near the end of our hike Milton marked us with the burgundy stain of the cochineal insect calling us "Alka", which in Quechua mean "explorers." Thanks for the great memories. As for booking. It went smoothly and the staff were helpful and attentive to details. They were only an email away when I had questions. You will know what you are paying for before the trip and they will deliver exactly that. Everything went without a hitch. See some of our photo posts on this trip.
The experience of this trek has been amazing. Eye, it is a demanding route, not only for the climbs and descents but for the height as well. Don’t underestimate the height, you have to acclimate and even if you are acclimate it makes everything cost more. It is your responsibility to go in good physical shape, it is not suitable for everyone. Now yes, the area is spectacular. The staff, both the guide and cook and very good and friendly porters. Food was a delicacy every time. Jose our guide knew a lot, both the route and the Inca culture and made everything very enjoyable. In this trek the whole camp is carried by mules, and they look well treated and not disproportionately weighted. On the Inca road you can no longer enter the mules but there we already had a hotel and our luggage went directly there. Watch out for the Inca trail of several days where there are only porters, I have not seen it in this Enterprise, but I have seen with other companies where the porters went with loads of almost the same size as the mules, it was a savage!! Level that even made it uncomfortable to watch and therefore will not be a good experience if what they are carrying is your stuff. It is also our responsibility as tourists to ensure that what we hire does not mean bad conditions for the workers there. If they are large groups, more porters will be needed and therefore you have to pay more, do not go to the cheapest, that will only mean worse conditions for them. In this Enterprise at least with this route all OK in that sense.
