Rainbow Mountain Tour

My father, sister, and I took a private Palccoyo Rainbow Mountain tour with Vidal Expeditions, and we had such a great time. Our guide and driver, Urbano, looked after us so well from beginning to end. We were lucky to have beautiful weather, and the views were absolutely incredible. We also walked up to the Stone Forest, and that was one of our favorite parts! The rock formations were fascinating, and the views from up there were just stunning. It was such a fun and memorable experience to share as a family. Urbano was clearly a very experienced hiker and guide. My father is 67, so we really appreciated being able to take our time and walk at a pace that worked for us. Urbano kept checking how we were feeling and made sure everyone was comfortable. He was very well prepared and lent us equipment, including trekking poles, which were really helpful. We felt very well looked after. He also explained everything so well. His explanations were detailed and easy to follow, and he was always happy to answer our questions. We enjoyed learning about what we were seeing instead of just stopping for photos and moving on. And the food was SO good! Both breakfast and lunch were buffets, so we got to try lots of different dishes. We really enjoyed both meals. Before booking, I compared several tour companies, looking at prices, whether entrance fees were included, and the overall quality of the experience. Vidal Expeditions seemed to offer the best value for what we wanted, and after taking the tour, we were really happy with our choice. The care, preparation, and guiding we received made it feel absolutely worth it. We’re so glad we booked a private tour. Ottima escursione a Pallay Punchu

Urbano was our guide. He was amazing. We struggled a bit with the elevations affect on our oxygen and so we were extremely slow. Urbano was so patient and encouraging —-Shari g information and stories along the way. Took pictures (tons of pictures) of and for us. He then hiked with us over to red valley as well. Could not recommend Vidal and Urbanoin particular more! A 10 out of a 10!

Our private tour to Palccoyo rainbow Mountain was great. The Vidal Team was very helpfull in all situations. While booking Vidal himself explained all the details and options and answered every single one of our (stupid) questions with patience. During the tour our guide Urbano made it easy to understand the details of our surroundings. He could explain something about every tiny or giant thing that caught our attention in a fun and interesting way. Urbano also was caring for our safety and regulary checked on us for symptoms of altitube sickness. He made this day unforgettable! PS: Urbano claims He can not control the weather but we think he himself ordered the sunshine ;)

We did a Palcoyo day tour (private tour) in March 2026. I have no words to describe how smoothly and perfectly it all went. Our guide Urbano is fluent in English, very knowlwdgable with a good sense of humour and made this trip with explanations sooo so good. Even the way to Palcoyo mountain rage was a divine ! Communication with Vidal is the best we have ever had (and yes we do travel around :D) . So they get 10/10 from me and my husband.

We had a blast with Vidal Expeditions for our trip to Machu Pichu so we went for Rainbow Mountain as well. We had the pleasure of Vidal himself as our guide and he did not disappoint. The knowledge was impressive and we had some great discussions on the trip as well. Rainbow Mountain and the Red Valley with Vidal was worth every cent. Did the easrly star Rainbow Mountain with Rainbow Mountain Expeditions, who I wouldn't hesitate to use again. All the communication up to the trip was first class We had a fantastic day and Alex was brilliant as a guide Informative and fun. We were worried that the weather was going to spoil it but Alex urged patience (others were heading down after seeing nothing but cloud), and after an offering to Pacha Mama the clouds cleared for a great view. Our objective was to see Rainbow Mountain by making the hike up to it and we booked this trip after reviewing others on offer because of its great reviews. Urbano, our guide and owner of the company, is very experienced and had a 100% track record of getting everyone to the top. We were a group of 3 adults, ages 65-70, with sufficient fitness levels to do the walking, however, we didn’t know how our bodies would handle the elevation. Urbano coached us through it with confidence and ease, in his low-key manner, adjusting his recommendations to suit each person. We all made it! And it was felt like such an accomplishment. This was a once-in-a-lifetime experience. If you want to challenge yourself, do it with Urbano.

Wow! I can't believe what an incredible experience my friends and I were able to have. Urbano was amazing! He met with us before the trip to ensure we were prepared, was so patient and helpful during the trek, and continually motivating us the entire way. We had a great time exploring the Mountain of Seven Colors with our guide Luis, it was a wonderful adventure. We departed early from Cusco to beat the crowds and be super lucky with the weather. The company included everything for our trip, from pick-up from the hotel to the entrance fee. The entire meal and guide were great. I highly recommend going early to avoid the large groups; we had such a great time arriving early and got better views of the mountain and the Red Valley. We had a wonderful time hiking rainbow mountain with Urbano. All the mountains in the area are beautiful with unique colors and the views as you hike up are stunning. I struggled with the altitude and Urbano was so patient and kind. We definitely recommend doing this tour especially with our friend Urbano!!!

Carlos our amazing guide was on time, well organized, fun, funny, and really informative. This tour allowed us to be the first on the mountain so we could take amazing photos and enjoy the scenery without the hoards of people arriving later. We added the Red Valley and it was well worth it, though others didn’t join I would say they missed out. This is the only tour I would recommend due to the early timing. I met Vidal when I did the Inca Trail some years ago. This time, my boyfriend and I decided to visit Cusco together and of course Vidal Expeditions was our choice to visit the Rainbow Mountain. Vidal was our guide and he was very helpful and made us feel comfortable all the time during the trip. He adapted to our needs in the best possible way, always with a big smile and professionalism. Our trip to the Rainbow Mountain with Vidal Expeditions was simply amazing and we will not hesitate to contact them next time we are in Cusco.

Just amazing! Our driver Alex and Urbano our guide were the best! The rainbow mountains are pretty spectacular, they recommend us to leave early (before 4 am) to avoid crowds and get a better view, totally worth it! Urbano was supportive all the way to the top and back, always looking out for us, providing interesting facts and taking beautiful pictures! Totally recommend it! This tour is very clearly advertised as a private tour as says "On this private tour from Cusco, see the colorful strata after a moderately difficult hike." When I got to Cusco the tour company called at night to let me know this was not a private tour and I had to pay extra if I wanted a private tour. When I complained they said that's how viator had set it up. I have complained to Viator twice and have asked them to correct the mistake on their page and still no change. They did however provide a partial refund. Since there was not time to book another tour we took it, but were not happy with it not being a private tour. I will leave this for a couple of more weeks and if their page is not corrected I will report this to FTC. Viator has been a good company to me and I have booked may tours with them, but if they have blatant mistake and refuse to fix it after being warned twice then they will have to answer to FTC. At any rate, BEFORE BOOKING THIS TRIP CALL THEM TO ENSURE IT IS A PRIVATE TOUR, NOT A GROUP ONE.

While the initial part of the journey would be totally unremarkable at a lower altitude, we really appreciated the frequent stops. Chino frequently checked in with us to see how we were feeling. He also gave great advice for taking deep breaths and had other tricks to help us deal with the altitude. After we made it to the top, Chino was endlessly patient, encouraging us to wait a few minutes for the clouds to pass so we could get better pictures. Then he was the best photographer EVER! I remember seeing many, many tour companies offering this hike, and I am so glad I picked Vidal Expeditions

We had a wonderful day at the Rainbow mountain. Even if clouds were covering the mountain at some point, our guide proposed to wait a little bit and a few minutes later we had the chance to see it all, the mountain, the valley and even the Ausangate mountain. Chino, our guide, was really great. He adapted the walk to the mountain to make sure everyone could reach the top. He was answering our questions, giving us informations about the region and the country. We highly recommand Chino.

We did 3 tours with Vidal Expeditions. Communications prior with owner Vidal were clear and efficient via WhatsApp. Our group of 4 (including a 6 yo and a 73 yo) did the Machu Picchu half day tour, Rainbow Mountain full day and Sacred Valley full day. For transportation, the vans provided were super clean, air-conditioned and comfortable. Our guides were knowledgeable and caring. We highy recommend Urbano! We loved our rainbow mountain tour with Urbano and Alex! We left early in the morning so we got there before the crowds. We were able to get some amazing photos and Urbano was very knowledgeable. The meals at the local restaurant were yummy. Would definitely recommend this tour! If you get motion sickness you may want to bring some ginger chews as the roads are really winding on the drive.

We had a great experience on this excursion. The restaurant for breakfast and lunch was great, and the rainbow mountain and surrounding area was beautiful. Our tour guide, Chino, was excellent as well. He was very knowledgeable not only of the site we were touring but Peru in general, which was appreciated.

We did 2 great tours with Vidal Expeditions: Rainbow Mountain and Biking Maras & Moray tour. Both tours were amazing, guides were very positive, engaged and had professional knowledge about places what made the tours very interesting. Rainbow Mountain was my greatest dream and I am verry happy I visited this beautiful place with Vidal. The views from the top are magical. Also if you like adventure take Moras&Maray as a biking tour wchich was fantastic experience thanks to Vinerson and Urbano. Thank you guys and thank you Vidal for this great time in Cusco! A well-oganised tour. I was picked up at the indicated time at my hotel and after another 10 minutes picking up other tourists, we headed to a breckfast place, from there to the trailhed of the Rainbow Mountain, we enjoyed lunch at the same place on the way back. Both was a buffet with different varieties, there was also enough vegetarian food not to leave the place hungry. Everyone could walk at their own pace once near to the mountain. The first part was almost flat and the last part quite steep but the view on top was worth the climb. We returned to Cusco around 3:30 pm with dropped off at the hotel. The guide was great very informative and pattient. Vidal Expeditions organize small group tours which makes more customize and enjoy the tour as you have planned.

We hike to the Seven Colors mountain also called the Rainbow Mountain, our guide been incredible from the beginning to end, with lot of information and great attitude. The hike itself was very challenging due the elevation over 16,420 feet, and usually i live at sea level. However our guide help us with motivating to complete the hike even going really slow but we did it. Food and the transportation were very well organized and always on time. If you are going there we recommend to take a few days to acclimatize in Cusco the altitude, and bring some warm clothes beacuse it is little windy up there. Thank you Vidal Expeditions for this life-time experience in Cusco. We definitely recommend you guys.

This was a great experience. I did a solo trip to Peru for my birthday and although I am in terrible shape, I wanted to do some excursions that Peru famously has to offer. I booked the trip to Rainbow Mountain for my second day in Cusco. It may not have been the wisest decision for me as I think I should’ve given myself at least two days to acclimate. However, I was lucky that I was the only one that booked the trip to Rainbow Mountain and my tour ended up being a private tour. Chino my tour guide was FANTASTIC. He was punctual, kind, compassionate to my physical limitations and a very knowledgeable as a guide. The added bonus was that every time I wanted to give up, he motivated me and encouraged me to continue. There was another visitor who had almost fainted because of the altitude, Chino helped her as well. Excellent tour and I would recommend Chino!

A fantastic trip to the Rainbow Mountain!! We just finished a day trip to the seven colors mountain near to Ausangate, we had nice views during this tour. Urbano the guide made more interesting, he was very patient and attentive, always providing us the right information. We were very slowly beacause the elevation but with Urbano as our guide we manage it. Vidal Expeditions organize very well this tour, food and transportation were great and on time. Such a nice place in the middle of the mountains. We took a day tour to the Rainbow Mountain with our guide Chino who been the best tour guide we had ever, from the pick up time to the end he was very professional, always providing information about the area, history and lot of motivation to reach over 5,036 meters. It was my first time climbing such a high altitude and was little nervous, but with Chino as guide was very helpful due he showed us safety and resposibility during each steps. Vidal Expeditions was great company organizing our trip with all included. Thank you Chino for being patient with us!

Today we did the Rainbow Mountain trek with Vidal Expeditions, it was a truly incredible experience. The guide was amazing, knowledgeable and kind of catered to our every needs. My friend and I were very tired due the altitude adjustments, the guide was always with us motivating and encouraged us throughout our journey even though we had to go a bit slower. Urbano managed to make us feel safe and taken care of and we had lot of fun and laughs even on the hardest part of our trip. Honestly Vidal Expeditions is a serious travel company based in Cusco with their local team and very professional that our guide help with the oxygen tank someone of the other groups who had some problems with the elevation.

Very well organized tour, we have such a nice day hiking to the marvel place, one of the most unique things I've ever seen. Our guide Jose made amazing job he was motivating, funny and knowledgeable. The food was great we had lot and varied meals for the breakfast and lunch. The good thing of Vidal Expeditions is that they take only small group 8 people max. comparing that the others company. One of the most outstanding experiences of my life. I felt like quitting many times and just didn’t think I’ll be able to climb to the top (I am not a seasoned hiker). My tour guide was exceptionally compassionate and patient and motivated me through the entire experience. I’ll remember this forever. Make sure you go prepared with some kind of sugary treat, WATER and warm clothes, sunglasses and a hat!

FANTASTIC EXPERIENCE!! We have done the Rainbow Mountain tour in a day tour, and simple this was incredible, our guide came to our hotel super early in order to reach the mountain before it turns crowd. We had our breakfast in a private restaurant only for us, then, we heading up to the trail head, hike for hour and half and reached to the view point, we were the first ones right there and enjoyed each angle if this amazing place, even better our guide Ronald explained us the culture, traditions and why the colors of this mountain, he also was fantastic photographer. Then, we enjoyed also the red valley it is gorgeous place. Vidal Expeditions organized very well this day trip and the team was very professional . We highlight recommend to go with them.

We had a lifetime experience during our day tour to The Rainbow Mountain, Jose our guide made this super fun day, since the pick up time to the drop off, he was very funny, always proffessional and informative, the dirve Alex also very kind of helpful.
