Communication between the tour organisers was great, we were able to text at any hour with questions and always receive a response. We were well prepared because of this. The hike up itself was tough but we had our guide keeping our spirits high. Overall good trip and I would recommend it.

Eli was such a wonderful guide for our Rainbow Mountain trip! She was knowledgeable, friendly, and made the experience so enjoyable. We felt well taken care of the whole way and truly appreciated her warmth and energy. Highly recommend her to anyone visiting Rainbow Mountain! The pre-briefing via zoom was also very useful.
Incredible experience! Our guide was great! It was very well organized tour. We really enjoyed the food both breakfast and lunch. The driver was also very considerate and stopped when required.
Wow, what a day! Some of the most incredible sights we saw. We rented horses as we were told it would be more difficult than Lake Humantay, and it certainly gave us a lot more time at the top! We were blessed with great weather despite some snow, and couldn't believe the sights. Highly recommend going over to Red Valley and also down to the Giant Hands as the value for money was well spent!! Sonia was perfect at translating between Spanish and English , she made the day really fun for us 'Champions' ! She answered all questions we had, including many unrelated to the tour, just about other aspects of areas in Peru. She was incredibly attentive to make sure everyone was feeling well, and checked in with everyone individually several times during the day which is a really great trait for a tour guide, it's a really special extra touch! Ari and Nixon who organised the tour went above and beyond for us, dealing with our many questions with a big smile, and rearranging things last minute when personal issues arose - super grateful for their help and advice! Highly recommend, ask for Sonia!
I think the most omportant thing to know is that you can not see the Rainbow mountain on the hike unless you can physically walk up a very steep set of stone steps up the side of the mountain, that would be after you hike the probably two Mile Trail or you can rent the horses but the horses drop you off at the bottom of the mountain and unless you can then walk yourself up the steps you will not see the view and you will not see the Rainbow Mountain colors. The altitude there is equivalent to the base camp of Mount Everest just regular walking can be difficult to breathe, as a senior citizen I managed to make it to the top taking about eight steps at a time and then stopping the rest, if I had to guess I'm going to say several hundred steps to get to the top. Also you will be on a small bus on a very bumpy road to access the point. Another option is to rent the quad bikes which in hindsight that's a good idea because then you can ride them all the way to the top. But the scenery is breathtaking and if you really enjoy hiking you will love it, be prepared for very cold weather, bring a warm coat hat scarf and gloves and if you have walking poles I recommend them
I have taken a Rainbow Mountain tour with Mega Expeditions from Cusco in March 2025. The organisation was smooth, from pick-up from Cusco in the morning til the drop off in Cusco in the evening. The stuff was very helpful and make the trip, hike and overall experience unforgettable. I strongly recommend and wouldn't hesitate to use their services again!
Visiting Rainbow Mountain was an incredible adventure! The colors of the mountain made the challenging hike absolutely worth it. Our guide was knowledgeable and supportive, ensuring we acclimatized properly and took breaks when needed. The high altitude was tough, but the stunning views at the top were beyond rewarding. Seeing the vibrant layers of the mountain in person was truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Highly recommend this tour for nature lovers and adventure seekers!
Everything about the tour was amazing!! I was first picked up right in front of my hostel. Then we drove through a beautiful landscape to the point from where we started to hike. We went on a 1,5 hours hike which was totally worth it! Through out the hike you could rent a horse if you didn’t wanted anymore and you could ride the way up! On the top of the mountain we had enough time to make photos and rest before going back down. The Gide answered every question we had and she was always by our side. I also had a phone number from the organizer if I had any questions or something I could always reach out to him and he would answer immediately and would make anything happened for me (because I had some extra wishes) !!
After doing the 5-day Salkantay trek through Mega Expeditions and having a great experience, we booked Rainbow Mountain for the very next day after we got back. The very quick response time and extremely helpful and personable people working at Mega Expeditions made our experience with both trips seamless. Highly recommend!
Lack of oxygen at high altitude should not be underestimated. We ended up taking horse ride for the last stretch. Our guide was really good. She took care of us very well. Vegetarian lunch provided could have been better.
The day was well organized and efficient. Lots of communication and information prior to the day of. Our guide Erica was knowledgeable and very helpful. I lost my wallet at the mountain and she went back the next day and retrieved it from the local community. Mega expeditions, Nixon, then arranged to send it to my hotel in Lima. Great service, thank you Nixon! Amazing views, even if it was a cloudy day, totally worth it!
After we booked this trip, I got a list of things that I should pay attention. The organizer even called me by himself to resolve my concerns about the safety. During this trip, the tour guider was always the last one to make sure all the team members were taken care of.the tour guider could speak both Spanish and English, which made my trip much more easier. The trip is wonderful. Thanks a lot.
It was our first time doing a high altitude hike and we were very well taken care of by the tour guide Sonya. They gave us walking sticks and even took pictures of us at the top. It was a challenging hike mainly due to the altitude but it was really enjoyable. The breakfast and lunch offered was also good.
Sonia was an excellent tour guide and I was fortunate to be with a chill and friendly group. The lunch was delicious with a lot of options.
Challenging but great experience, Erika did a great job! Nixon did a good job with telling us what to expect and how to prepare. Will most definitely do this again next time we’re in Peru.
The guide and driver were very nice and made great effort to accommodate my needs. What wasn’t all that apparent was the actual venue and conditions the trip held: 1. It is a very long ride in a relatively uncomfortable van that had limited ventilation. An hour and a half both ways on a twisty, steep, dirt road made me carsick. Preceded and proceeded by a two our ride to and from Cusco. 2. The lunch was good but I couldn’t eat it because my stomach was so churned up by the ride down, all I could have was Coca Cola to relieve my stomach. Breakfast was not that good. 3. What is needed is a VERY CLEAR description of how high we were going. Cusco sits at about 11,200 feet. The summit of Vinicunca is about 17,200 feet. Without a full grasp of how thin the air gets at that height, people were getting dizzy, overly fatigued, and dehydrated. It takes a good two hours to hike up from the parking lot and another one and a half hours to return. The views if you make it are phenomenal. 4. The descent with everyone being exhausted was made more excruciating by the bumpy twisting road in a van that had no real ventilation outside of the front driver and passenger door windows an an inefficient ventilation system in the van. All in all, I felt I had completed one of the hardest excursions of my life. Granted I am 70 years old, with a sore left hip, but in very good shape. I did take my guide’s advice and hopped onto a horse halfway up (20 sols) so I wouldn’t hold the group back. Coming down, though hard on my hip, didn’t hold the group back. I believe a little more transparency about the rigorousness of the trip would’ve helped me decide whether I should’ve gone. As it turns out, I made it, feel very accomplished and got some incredible videos and pictures.
Very well organized, safe, and enjoyable. Our guide was very helpful and knowledgeable. When certain members of the group were struggling with the altitude, our guide took care of them and made sure everyone was okay. I highly recommend them.
Rainbow mountain is a perfect example of natures true beauty. It was a sight that can be seen nowhere else in the world. It is definately a trip worth taking. The guide was very helpful and informative. Due to the fact that you are almost at 20,000 feet above sea level, I would definately suggest to ride up on horseback. It saves alot of stress on the body and helps avoid altitude sickness. The walk back down is very managable.
We had a great morning here and as we had a clear day were able to see all that rainbow mountain had to offer. I would suggest doing this at least after your 4th or 5th day in Cusco as the altitude is pretty hard going!
We found this tour operator accidentally but no regret at all! What I like the most about them - they do what they say, and it is very important for me. I was surprised that they requested a short online meeting before the trip, but it was really important not only for them but for us too. Described everything, replied to all question we had, arrange pick up time and location. And they are very punctual, if they say pick up at your hotel at 4:15 a.m. driver will be there at 4:15 a.m ., I love it. Do you recommend Mega Expedition? 100% I would recommend them to my friend! Well done Mega Expedition, thank you for everything!
This was my first time using this app to book an experience. The company who provided this tour for me went above and beyond to ensure everything went well and that I had the best experience possible. I was so impressed by the individual care an attention to my personal safety as a solo traveler that I would recommend this Cuzco based company to everyone!!! Would give them 10+ stars if able. Definitely trust this company and would book with them directly in the future. So sorry for the late post but ThANK YOU so much!!
We had a great time! We booked with Carlos who was an excellent advisor, he gave us many tips about the trip and was very nice to us! Then the day of the trip to rainbow Mountain we have been picked up on time at our hotel, and we met Sonia, our guide, a very nice, energic and skilled young woman who encouraged every single one of us during the challenging hike to the peak of the Mountain. We greatly recommend this team and their organization!
I booked Montana Vinicunca (de 7 colores) with Mega Expeditions and it was the best experience ever! I received a text a day or two before asking me to either come into their office in town or jump on a call with them to better discuss the itinerary details. It was super thoughtful on their end (not many tour agencies even do this!) so I went in and met with Carlos, who verified I was acclimated to Cusco's elevation for the hike and gave me a rundown of the day's program. He was amazing and on top of it all! On the day of the hike, the tour guide was incredible and supportive to everyone in our large group. The food we stopped to have at breakfast and lunch was nutritious and plenty. It was truly a great experience and I can't recommend Mega Expeditions enough!! Thank you <3
Honestly Mega Expeditions made our trip to Cusco even better than expected. We were told about them by a hostel mate and then messaged them on WhatsApp to book a tour. It went so well that we did another two with them (Rainbow Mountain, Sacred Valley and ATV tour). Super easy to plan and also great rates (much better than what some other friends paid). Nixon and Jersey are awesome people to deal with!
Beautiful view and super friendly guide! Make sure to bring and put a lot of sunscreen on your face!!
The view of the color on the rainbow montain it was very beautiful. The guide was very nice. We recommed Legale expéditions
Great trip and very flexible and accommodating agency ! Nixon has been more than helpful and managed to arrange everything the night before.
Best service and quality of tour in Peru! The agency briefed me the details of the trips before hand and made sure that my needs are all taken care of, even for a 1 day tour, they put so much efforts to make sure the customers are happy! I had many questions and they are always responsive on WhatsApp 24/7. During the tour, I got to see the breathtaking view of the mountain with 7 color, but it’s not just that, on the way to the mountain I saw a diverse scenery of green mountain, snow mountain and many alpacas and llamas! They served breakfast before the tour to give me energy and a rich buffet lunch after the tour. The food was delicious! Definitely recommend this tour by Mega Expeditions for those who want to see one of the diverse and beautiful scenery in Peru!
We hired this company to take us to Humantay lake. The tour includes breakfast and lunch. They picked us up at our hotel at 4am which is brutal BUT TOTALLY worth it to make it to the lake before the big crowds you’ll be happy when you’re able to take AMAZING PICTURES!!!! Our tour guide was a charming young man Anibal ! We loved this tour and Humantay lake exceeded our expectations!
The communication with Cordially was great. He was always available to answer any questions I had. The trip to rainbow mountain started early, the guides were knowlegeable and friendly. The drive was interesting, got to see a lot of different terrain and mountains. Unfortunately I did not make it all the way to the top to see the rainbow mountain but I don't regret going anyway and trying as I still got to see amazing views and grateful to have experienced the welcoming nature from the people of Cusco!
Having booked Machu Picchu with Nixon before we left the UK, I was so impressed with his service that I booked this trip the day before we did it. On the day there was a minor issue but a phone call to Nixon and he sorted it immediately with no quibble whatsoever. The tour itself was fantastic. I caanot rate the trip or Mega Expeditions highly enough.
Nixon is an amazing organizer that really cares for his customers and bringing them the best experience. He makes sure everything is in place and is flexible with client requirements when needed. great experience.
Since the first moment I was very comfortable with their. They gave me the best information for the city and all your tours. They are very puntual, a good attention in all the moments and a very professional and educated employees. In the agency, Lina is the person that all guest need in a travel. She is very nice and say you the information complete. Recomended 100%.
Book your trip here! Very nice and competent people. We went to the rainbowmountains with them and everything was very well organized :)
The view is very nice. The hike is a bit hard for the height, but worth it. It is a natural paradise, where you can appreciate snow, alpacas, llamas and the mountain itself; feel a lot of peace.
Reservations were made online and meetings were held on site. We didn't understand Spanish. I only spoke a little English, but they were very polite! There were explanations using video, and I could understand it well. They gave me sound advice. The pick-up in the car on the day was accurate. It was hard to climb Rainbow Mountain, but with the support of local Guides, everyone was able to climb and descend safely! It was such a lovely time ^_^
Very nice experience, good organization. Even if you have to get up early, the result is magical and the views beautiful! The sun was there!
The visit to the Colorful Mountain was one of the highlights of our trip. Really the place is very beautiful and very similar to what you find from images on the Internet. Guide Sonia led the trip and everything went very well.
Walk must be but be aware that it is not for everyone because the trail is very exhausting on foot and the horse riding or motorcycle options do not include the descent. So I strongly recommend people with mobility difficulties to inform themselves very well to avoid frustrations. After all the view is amazing and it is definitely one of the best places to visit in the region
Difficult climb... but it's worth it! Be persistent, because the landscape is stunning! (Altitude is a challenge to overcome.)
Positive point: the organization and attention paid to the group. Our guide Eli was great! Negative point: As said directly to Nixon with whom we made the reservation, the quality of the food in the "buffet" really needs to be reviewed. We had digestion problems that lasted 2 days after this meal. The hygiene of the place does not help the subject.
Very satisfied with the service provided by the Mega Expeditions team. We took three tours with them and they all met our expectations. In this specific case to Arcoiris Mountain, congratulations to the guide Cézar. Despite the long distance and time to get there, it was worth it. We took the quad bike option and it gave an extra adrenaline rush to the ride, not to mention that we avoided the soroche due to the effort of climbing the mountain on foot.
Having little time to visit and get to know Cusco was not an impediment to overcoming that "challenge" of climbing the Mountain. The Tour was very good from the beginning to the end, the food, the people and the guide (one note). The best part was, of course, reaching the top and getting that "famous" photo that we all want to have. Thanks to the "Mega Expeditions" team
Very good experience, recommended to everyone; It is an approach to the nature of Cusco and you will be surprised by the views and energy of the place.
Incredible day with Sonia our guide for the visit to the 7 Colors Mountain! There were a few clouds once at the summit but the road to get to the mountain is just as beautiful, if not even more so!
Very good tour, I recommend it 100%, the guide was very attentive to us and gave us tips on how to best overcome the height
I loved the experience, from the top of the mountain you can see a beautiful landscape, in addition to the colors of the mountain, you can observe the snowy Ausangate, one of the highest in Cusco. The guide was excellent, was very well prepared and was aware of all the members of the group, carried florida water and coca leaves for altitude sickness. Along the way you will also find different stations to buy sweets, coke mate and other hot drinks for the cold. The climb to the mountain is a bit difficult because of the height and the wind but it is worth it when you see the red valley, the 7 colors of the mountain, the snow, all this in the same landscape.
One of the best plans in Cusco, the walk if it is a bit hard in the end but worth it, I recommend drinking coca tea on the last leg of the walk and eating Alpaca chicharrón on the top of the mountain. The guide was super friendly and attentive, I was the last one on board and he always accompanied me and gave me coca bushels to help me on the Florida climb and water, super friendly and fun.
It is a wonderful place, worth everything you do to get there (Wake up early, walk 4 km and more) The tour is very good.
The pickup was punctual at the time we met. Very correct and sufficient breakfast. The guide gave us practical advice on mountain safety. The walk very nice and affordable according to the difficulty we had been told. The head of the agency previously also gave us very useful comments about the excursion. The abundant and quality lunch. Safe and comfortable transportation. Highly recommended!
