The driver did an amazing job for the long drives and difficulot roads. The guide was thorough and adapted to our needs.

Rainbow Mountain is an incredible experience. Absolutely, one of the highlights of our trip. Our guide, Luz, was very knowledgeable and helpful, and ensured that we made it to the top, despite the challenges of hiking at 15,000 feet elevation!
Luz is a nice lady with a positive minset, and as a guide, she provides excellent service. Rainbow Mountain Tour provides needed tools, unlike with the Salkantay tour ..I was scam.
This was the perfect day!!! Rhonald made sure everything went smoothly and we had the best time and I can’t thank Rhonald enough! The timing was excellent, food (breakfast and lunch) was delicious, and had a lot of time to enjoy the hike, the views and take pictures before it got too crowded. Rhonald made sure we were feeling good and enjoying the whole time, I absolutely recommend this tour!
This was one of the very best tours I’ve ever been on - Rhonald made sure we had the perfect day. The timing of everything was excellent, breakfast and lunch were delicious, and Rhonald made sure we were feeling good the whole time and had plenty of time to enjoy the views and take pictures. Absolutely recommend!!!
I had doubts about the trip but from the first moment they contacted me and gave me all the necessary information. I loved the place and I thank the guide Juan Carlos for having a lot of patience on the walk and encouraging me to get there
Wow an incredible adventure worthy of 10 stars. Our guide Victor helped us make the time on rainbow mountain very special with a blessing to pachamama and extra pics to remeber the trek. I would absolutely do this again and I would use crossover tours for all my Peru experiences.
What an amazing day! Victor, our guide was so present, helpful and great to talk to. Rainbow mountain is surreal and beautiful and this guiding company made it that much more spectacular. Seamless, reliable pickup from our hotels, delicious breakfast and lunch included. Organized and perfect day with great people. Thank you!
Luz is AMAZINGGG and subtly funny too! We were a group of 7 visiting from US. Our trip was on Saturday. She came to the hotel to give us a briefing and preparation tips for the hike/trek. She was very thorough with planning. We had a Van ready at 5 am sharp right outside our hotel as planned. She had arranged breakfast for us at a very unique private site in Cusipata. Real PERU meal and experience. At the start of the hike, she provided everybody with walking sticks and ‘agua de Floridas! some members were slow, she stayed with the slowest one and made sure everyone was safe. When at the top, views are breathtaking and she explained in detail about the formation and colors of Rainbow mountain. One of our friends developed Altitude sickness and she had portable Oxygen cylinders and it helped tremendously. Lunch was again at the same place and just fantastic! We can’t rave enough about her and she has a charm about her that is so likeable! We highly recommend her if you are visiting the area!
Luz and Yaritza were great guides, supportive and encouraging. Both were great with conversation as we made the hike. Breakfast and lunch were delicious at a local spot on the way. Leaving early was totally worth it as we beat the crowd to the mountain top. Pachamama ceremony at end was great.
Had a great time during the tour with Luz! She kept everyone in the group motivated and I had a great conversation with her on the hike as well! I would highly recommend this and would be more than happy to do it again!
Luz was incredible! She was so patient, helpful, encouraging and kind. She made sure everyone was safe, taught us a lot about Peru and made our experience so positive!
Rainbow mountain was an incredible experience, definitely a must have if visiting Peru; ask for Luz she is an amazing tour guide!
Yaritza & Luz were the best tour guides. They were informative and I felt safe and comforted along the route. I wanna come back and do the Inca trail with them!!!!!!
The landscape is beautiful and our guide Yaritza knew so much about the area and the community. It was a perfect day. I have only positive things to say.
I always wanted to go to a mountain of colors, and I think it was the best choice, since I contacted them they gave me all the necessary information. The guide Kevin helped me on the walk, we went very slowly. When we arrived it was all beautiful. We stayed a long time. When we return we have local food for lunch. It was a great experience. I recommend this tour after knowing Machu Picchu
Our guide was Edgar and pickup was at 3:30am on the dot. Stopped for breakfast about 2 hrs away which was a buffet and delicious (they had coffee and eggs, among other things). Then drove appx 1 more hour to reach the entrance. Very glad we took a private tour because the elevation was rough and we needed to take our time. Edgar was very patient and helpful. We rode horses part of the way up which was 30 soles each. There are bathrooms along the way that are 1 sol each. The last part of the trail you cannot ride a horse and was very steep, but we slowly made it. Had some coca tea at the top, stamped the passport, took some pics and started heading back. Walking back was a breeze in comparison...first descent can be hard on the knees but otherwise ok. Lunch on the way back was a buffet at the same breakfast place and was very good. Definitely worth it and do not regret paying extra for a private guide.
A small group tour is the way to go with Rainbow Mountain, beat the crowds and enjoy the views without hundreds of people at the summit. Our tour guide Kevin was great, he answered our questions, helped arranged horses for us, administered first aid when I needed it, and, overall, was an awesome bilingual guide. Home cooked breakfast and lunch was provided and it was delicious and gave us a authentic cultural experience. Highly recommend this company and Kevin.
I just had the pleasure of traveling with Daniel and Tigre and they took wonderful care of our group. Daniel as our guide was very informative about the challenges we would face on our ascent and helped us prepare for the weather, the atmosphere, and the physical rigor of the journey. Together, Daniel and Tigre kept our whole group together and helped keep everyone on pace yet, also comfortable and safe. Daniel is also so warm, personable and funny and did a great job with storytelling. He spent time informing us of the geological and environmental importance of Rainbow mountain, while still gauging the group’s interest and tempering his approach based on our interests. Tigre helped care for people who were trailing in our group. He helped several of us climb the summit and find the best places for unforgettable pictures. Thank you so much, guys! We had an amazing time, with great memories and even better photos!
Michael was our fabulous tour guide for trek up to Rainbow mountain. He did an excellent job of briefing us the day prior (at our hotel) of what was expected and needed for the hike up to 16,522 ‘ to witness the beauty of the Andes . He was informative , friendly and extremely knowledgeable of the history and culture of the Inca people as well as the terrain. I highly recommend this tour if you have a day in Cusco ! Mucho Gracias Michael
I had Kevin as my tour guide and am extremely grateful for his patience and expertise! He made the trip very exciting and I would definitely recommend this travel company. I'll be booking with Crossover Peru again in the future.
Short, challenging hike at high altitude but worth the view. The landscape is impressive and a definite must do when visiting Cusco!
I was visiting Peru with Under30Experiences. We went to rainbow mountain with CrossoverPeru and had Kevin as our guide and Jimmy as our driver. Everything went very smooth. Transportation was clean and safe. Kevin was awesome, especially with his Rocky soundtrack. Kevin also carried oxygen and some smelling liquids to help with any altitude issues our group had. The previous day I had also went to the salt mines with Kevin as our guide and Walter as our driver. Kevin was great with all of our impatient questions.
Kevin tour guide was great ! Kept us moving with music ( Rocky theme songs) made it fun and he got everyone up the mountain . Driver JImmy was great and provided us with water after
Kevin was our outstanding guide. It was only 3 people in the group which made the experience more personalized. Kevin has a great supportive attitude. Very informative and his service was excellent. Clear communication before and during the excursion. I would highly recommend Kevin and the Rainbow day tour.
Had an excellent tour with Kevin for rainbow mountain and inca trail. He was a knowledgeable and fun guide, and the trip was very well planned! Muchas gracias amigo.
Kevin was a great guide! He was very knowledgeable and kept the mood light as we went through a couple of strenuous hikes with him. Would highly recommend!
I loved that it was a small group tour - just my friend and I and one solo traveler. Kevin was our tour guide and he came to the hotel the night before to give a debrief, which was much appreciated. It starts at 3am, which is brutal, but worth it to miss the crowd, avoid too much sun, and get the mountain mostly to yourself. Kevin is very knowledgeable, friendly, and was our personal photographer. Light breakfast and a delicious lunch is also include.
I had an amazing time! Super nice, we were provided blankets, breakfast, and lunch. They also had oxygen masks on hands and literally walked with us to help us get up the mountain when we struggled. Thank you!
Great experience! Waking up early and beating the crowd to get some good solo pics was definitely worth it!!
Great views, very challenging hike. My only complaint was the food, which I think could have been better, and I am not a picky eater. Be prepared with layered clothing, snacks, toilet paper, plenty of water, a little mlm money (bathroom use is 1 soles) and some oxygen if your not feeling the altitude--even if you take the horses up. Also, do it early! Kevin and Coco are awesome guides.
Although this was probably the hardest thing I've ever done physically, it was absolutely worth it for the reward at the end, the amazing view and the sense of accomplishment! My husband and I got lucky and it was just us two in our group, so we had personal attention from our guide, Edgar. The entire process was great, Edgar came and met us in our hotel the evening before the hike to give us all of the information we needed, and was there early in the morning to pick us up. It is a long drive, but you get a break two hours in for a very nice breakfast. After another, very bumpy, hour drive you arrive at the mountain. We immediately felt the effects of the altitude as we just climbed the initial steps to start the hike, and knew that all we heard was true and that it was going to be a tough one! Walking in flat areas was fine, but sadly you won't get much of that on the way up, it's a good bit of incline, with a bunch of stairs and a much steeper incline near the end. My husband struggled with the altitude pretty bad, so we ended up taking horses for part of it, which helped. With the encouragement of Edgar, I was able to make it all the way to the top, each time I would tell him I didn't think I could make it farther, he would motivate me further. I'm so thankful for this because you really do get the most amazing view from the very top point! The key is to just take it slow and take breaks when needed, we were very grateful that Edgar was so patient with us! The way back down is much, much easier and a nice break. The lunch that you get on the way back to your hotel is delicious, and you get so much food! Also, we made the mistake of going the first day after we arrived in Cusco, what others say is accurate, you do want to give yourself more time to acclimate, take that advice because we didn't and I'm sure we made it more difficult on ourselves. The upside is that everything else we did on our trip seemed easy compared to this! In short, if you're thinking of doing this hike, you absolutely should! It will be hard, but if you take your time you can make it.
I had an amazing time. Kevin and Coco were great leaders that allowed us to travel at our own pace. They provided us with blankets for the early morning bus ride and walking sticks for the hike. The view is definitely worth the time it takes to get to the mountain.
Me and my mom did several activities with Crossover. Very good agency starting from the office staff. Thanks to Yarira for helping us plan and prepare the best trip for us! Special thanks to our guides Kevin and Ricardo that always knew the best paths to get away from the crowds and offer us a very informative and cultural experience. Also thanks to our drivers Lalo and Benjamin! This is a great agency to choose if you want the real experience, with kind and attentive guides, and away from huge crowds.
probably one of the most difficult hikes i personally have ever done, especially being a native person to level low altitudes. Kevin was such an inspiration and definitely helped me find that little extra to push through to the top, he played "eye of the tiger" for the final few hundred yards to the peak which was awesome! once you reach to summit you forget all about the trek up and take in unbelievable views of rainbow mountain
We had an amazing experience in our tour to Vinicunca. Everything took place as it was described to us; there were no surprises, and for me that is the best thing that it can happen when you buy a tour. Kevin, our guide, was very friendly, accommodating and was always making sure we were ok (as the walk to get to the top of the mountain is quite challenging). I highly recommend this tour company and also my amigo Kevin as a tour guide.
Trekking up Rainbow Mountain was one of the most challenging, yet rewarding experiences of my life. I'm so grateful to have had Kevin alongside us the entire way. He was attentive, patient, and humorous. His kindness is truly unmatched - even something so small as to provide us with blankets on the long bus journey up to the base of the mountain was very much appreciated. Most importantly, Kevin believed in us when we didn't believe in ourselves (this encouragement led us to reach the summit!) Booking with Kevin is an opportunity you will never forget!
Kevin did a great job with this tour! He came to our hotel the day before to go over everything we needed, was on time for everything, and encouraged us the whole time during this difficult hike. Food was great too! Highly recommend this tour!
Juan & Kevin did a great job accommodating the entire group for the day trip up to Rainbow Mountain. They were informative and encouraging from start to finish and made every part of the hike fun and exciting. We were also treated to a great meal along the way as an added bonus.
Juan Carlos and Kevin were absolutely outstanding guides up Rainbow Mountain. They taught us so much about the history and geography of the mountain as well as motivated us to make it all the way to the top (not an easy hike!) The hike was absolutely incredible and Juan Carlos and Kevin made the experience even more enjoyable! Anyone who visits Peru simply must do this hike with these two talented experts!
Juan Carlos and Kevin were the best guides ever. So accommodating, encouraging (for not an easy hike), and knowledgeable. These guys gave us transportation from Cusco, breakfast at a local home along the way, guided us up the mountain, took great pictures, were knowledgeable and so much fun. Would recommend these guys!
This was an unforgettable experience! I am not a very athletic person but Kevin was amazing! Kevin was my groups tour guide to Rainbow Mountain. He stayed behind and made sure that my friends and I were okay. He waited patiently and hiked up the mountain with us. I was feeling very dizzy and my head was pounding but he gave me a couple of local remedies that worked! Kevin is a very sweet, patient and caring tour guide! If you do this tour, please request Kevin. He will assure that you get up the mountain and back down safely. It was incredible once I finally made it to the top and I wouldn't have been able to do that without Kevin's help!
Was absolutely blown away by this group during my experience at Rainbow Mountain! They exceeded my expectations, were attentive and encouraging during the challenging summit, and provided fun and interesting history and facts along the way. Can’t say enough good things!
Such an incredible day! Edgar was our guide and Juan Carlos our driver. We were picked up about 3;40 am from our hotel. They do an excellent job of communicating with you beforehand to ensure pick up time and give you the essential info about the journey. You drive for about 2 hours and then have breakfast, then journey on for another hour down a very bumpy dirt round that climbs up to the start of the trail for Rainbow Mountains. Edgar helped to negotiate our horses, which we opted for one way (up only) which was 60 soles. That took about 45 minutes to get up to where you then have to walk the rest of the way. It was an incredible amazing view from the top. They allow you plenty of time for picture taking. Bring small change/bills for picture taking with alpacas/llamas and any small trinkets you want to buy at the top. Then you journey back down and and drive back and have lunch (at the same place) - food was great by the way. The back to Cusco. Edgar was fabulous and very helpful. My husband got altitude sickness and he stayed back with him to make sure he was OK. I highly recommend this tour group.
We did the tour on Sep 24th however a day before we had the pleasure to meet Edgar Contreras our lead guide to explain the tour from A to Z for us to be ready 100%. Next day early morning he met us with “Popeye” the driver right on time, gave us blankets to be warm and sleep if we wanted to during the journey. We were ready with coca leaves, chocolate, water, warm clothes, spare clothing, rain coats and the right attitude. We walk the walk as we wanted to get to the top ourselves however the altitude hit us a bit so the last meters we took a horse ride! If you think altitude can bother you, take the horse from the get go. Highly suggested! I am amazed by the strength of the local people and the number of times the same person & horse go up and down. Wow! Once on the mountain slope we had a coca leaves tea that gave us the strength to hike the last part and it was all worth-it! Despite the cold weather, altitude and tiredness, we were amazed of the beauty of the mountain and surroundings. Pictures don’t make justice of this place. Egdar our guide was amazing all the time as he knew how to lead us in our pace to achieve the best hike of our lives! We took our time up there, took pictures, video and time to take it all in! 7 colors indeed! You get to see it all plus we saw snow cones for the first time and are “perfect” and beautiful. Next to the mountain you get to see the Red Valley! It’s astonishing! Suggestions: have a light meal the day before and light breakfast. Drink sips of water during the journey, go to the bathroom before the hike, sunblock, hat, gloves, sunglasses, thermal clothing, extra spare of clothing in case of rain, coca leaves to chew, chocolate or energy bars to help your strength. Thanks Edgar for all your support, suggestions, laughs, anecdotes and the history shared during the tour!
My family and I had an awesome day at Rainbow Mountain! Yes, the rainbow mountain is cool, but it is the entire trip that makes it really special. The drive to the trek through small Peruvian villages was amazing, the hike itself was challenging but very doable, and the scenery at the top (not just the rainbow) was incredible. Kevin was a great tour guide and was dedicated to our entire group getting to the top. Thank you for the extra motivation Kevin!
Went out with a tour group that also used CrossoverPeru. Roland was our guide for the full week of the tour and Kevin joined us for the full day on Rainbow mountain. I cannot Express how amazing the whole experience was from the people to the scenery just unbelievable. The roads being driven up the mountain are a little scary, but even that was part of the experience for me. Be ready the air is thin going up to 17k feet. Local have horses to help you most of the way to summit, for an extra fee, if needed.
I did 3 tours with Crossover during my trip to Peru and every single one was excellent. They had great communication with English-speaking tourists, great food for the full day hike that include breakfast and lunch, safe and comfortable transportation via small bus/large vans, and #1 I felt safe in their guide's hands, especially as a solo traveler. Guides were knowledgeable about the terrain as well as the history and cultural aspects of each trip. They were very prepared, timely, and organized. My guides for Rainbow Mountain were Daniel and Kevin, for Humantay was Cristian, and for Maras/Moray was Edgar. Every guide was awesome! Highly recommend! Plus Roland who runs Crossover is an incredible and reliable person with excellent communication skills - he helped me to select best options for my stay in Peru, taking into account weather conditions that would provide me the best experience for each tour I did. If safety is important for you, Crossover is the clear choice, and that includes safety for food consumption - I have a very sensitive stomach and never got sick from anything I ate or drank at the stops for breakfast and lunch. Also, guides are well prepared with oxygen for the high-altitude hikes and the fact that they are able to communicate in English so clearly is very important. I hear many other tour operators do not have guides that are proficient enough in English which can pose a huge problem in the event that someone is not feeling well or needs some sort of medical attention. Keep that in mind when choosing your operator! Go with Crossover, they are tried and true!
This was my first time legitimately hiking and this was quite a feat. I couldn't have gotten up this mountain without the support of Daniel & Kevin from Crossover Peru. They were encouraging and guiding our group every stretch of the way. Much of the climb is mental as much as physically strenuous, and they couldn't have been better guides. If I had to climb the mountain again, I would only go with them. They were excellent. The hike is about 3.5 miles up and the same down, but the altitude will begin to slow you down about half way up the climb. Be sure to take frequent short sips of water and breath as much as possible. Don't forget to breath! This was a site to see once we made it to the top, but for me it was definitely a struggle so take your time.
I spent the day with Crossover Peru hiking up the Rainbow Mountain. Daniel was our guide and he was great! Every little detail was taken care of- from blankets in the van, to breakfast, and to lunch. The Rainbow Mountain hike is an arduous task. At 17,000 feet in the air gaining 1,000 feet for every mile you hike, this is a step trek to the top but so worth it. Daniel picked us up at our hotel at 3:30 in the morning, we drove about 2 hours to eat breakfast prepared by locals. The food was great and got us ready for our 2 hour hike we were about to embark upon. The hike is tough, as I have already mentioned. When I felt like I could not make it to the top, Daniel was right there next to me encouraging me that I would make it to the top. Without Daniel's motivation, I would have quit and not made it to the top. Once we got up there, Daniel took the BEST photos for me. We had lunch at the same stop where we had breakfast. This time the food was a buffet style and it was really wonderful after hiking for about 3 hours. One thing that I really liked about Crossover Peru was that the tour guides were trained in First Aid and carried two oxygen tanks with them. Hopefully, no one has to use the oxygen tanks or needs first aid, but it is helpful and reassuring to know that you are in good hands. There are a lot of operators that you can choose from, but Crossover is a locally owned company that employs locals who know the area and are proud of their culture. Daniel, for instance, grew up in a community not too far from the Rainbow Mountain. In summary, USE CROSSOVER PERU! They are wonderful.
