Once again the nature of the city of Cusco shows us another impressive natural attraction "The rainbow mountain range of Palccoyo" where we will enjoy the beauty and colour of the region, likewise we can appreciate the variety of flora and fauna that shows us this beautiful place. This attraction is relatively new and many people of the region did not know about this Palccoyo Rainbow Mountain Range, since before it was covered by snow, which did not allow to see its coloration; However, due to global warming, the snow has disappeared and now with our new excursion it is possible to visit the Palccoyo Rainbow Range (Combapata).
Upon arrival to Checacupe we will observe the evolutionary process of the road system through three colonial bridges located in the same town of Checacupe: Incan bridge, Colonial Bridge and the Republican Bridge, you can also see a colonial temple with fine carving works in wood, gold leaf and that houses the paintings of the Cusco school (Diego Quispe). Once the visit of this archaeological centre is finished, we will depart to the Rainbow Mountain Range of Palccoyo, located at 4,900 meters above sea level.
Once arrived at this point we will begin our walk of 40 minutes approx. Where we will appreciate the valleys of eroded glaciers and the Permian formations of brilliant colours that stand out among the others and that is inhabited by alpacas and llamas. We can also appreciate some communities and farmers that live in the low areas of the Rainbow Mountain Range of Palccoyo. We will also appreciate the Ccacca Loma stone forest and the red mountain. Continuing our tour of the Rainbow Mountain Range of Palccoyo, we will go to San Pedro to enjoy a delicious buffet lunch. After having enjoyed our lunch we will go to the circuit of the four lagoons, where we will observe the different lakes (Acopia, Pomacanchis, posposqo cocha, misky cocha), here we will have enough time to observe the variety of birds and the landscape that surrounds us.
After all this beautiful tour and having visited the Rainbow Mountain Range of Palccoyo, we will return to the city of Cusco arriving at approximately 6:30 p.m.
The rainbow mountains covered with snow for a few days, before we got there. The guide didn’t mention anything when we left early in the morning so we could not see anything.
Giovanni and Edmar were excellent Tour Guides, they were prepared with First Aid, in case we needed, I felt bad in the middle of the way and they always support us. This is a difficult trade, eat light and try the Sorojchi Pills.
I am very thankful to Machu Picchu Peru Tours team for making my dream come true and arranging this trek in an efficient way. I visited the Rainbow Mountain hiking up although I did have the option of riding on a horse back. The guide was very nice and he gave me the confidence that i could hike up and trust me it was well worth the time and effort.
This trip to the Rainbow Mountain was somewhat challenging as we are not used to high altitude hikes Jose is a nice and knowledgable guide and his expertise and tips helped us a lot. Machu Picchu Peru Tours has some of the friendliest team of tour cordinators we encountered in South America. We will surely be recommending them to our friends and families back home.
We visited Mount Palccoyo and found a great alternative to Vinicunca. The trail is lighter, the colorful landscapes are beautiful and there are fewer people, which left the experience more peaceful and photogenic. We went in December and it was snow, but still it was beautiful. We recommend for those who want the view of the colorful mountains without the exhausting walk.
The tour starts very early type 3-4 am, how good you can sleep on the way, we breakfast in a very good buffet and then depart for the mountain. Here the height is the problem, you can walk up but it requires a lot of condition, the good thing is that there are horses that you can pay and for 90 suns they leave you 15-20 minutes from the top. Wear layered clothes as you can warm up when climbing. We already walk down and the road is much easier. On horseback you go up in 40 minutes, you are on the mountain an hour to take pictures and the return is about 1 hour or so. In the end we still had lunch in the same very rich buffet!
The experience was extraordinary. We booked for 12 people all tours with this agency and it was extraordinary from start to finish. On this particular tour of the colorful mountain, our driver was Ephraim and our guide Erick and we could not have had better people on this trip. They were extraordinary, we laughed a lot and Erick was always patient with us at all times. Not only do we recommend the Enterprise, but we also recommend Erick as a tour guide.

What can we say about our experience in Peru? We can say it was fantastic, we learned much more than landscapes, history, culture and a lot of love for the profession. Our Guide Alex made us cry on the day of departure, as he is our main longing for Peru, through his eyes and knowledge we gained 1,000 years of studies and learned a little more about Inca culture. He presented us with Snow, something none of us imagined we would see. It was exciting. If you go to Peru, hire Machu Picchu Tours, and ask Alex as a Guide and Mr. Fernando as a Driver and of course the boy Giovani to take your photos. We will not return to Peru, because there is still a whole world to explore. But if we return one day, it will be to visit a brother that Dios e la Madre tierra gave us ALEX.
