We were a group of four friends who booked the Lares Trek together, and the entire experience was great from beginning to end. Everything was perfectly organised. The team took care of everything, from setting up our tents to preparing our meals and organising all the logistics. We loved how peaceful and untouched the surroundings felt. We barely encountered any other tourists, which made the trek feel even more special and authentic. Our guide, David, was absolutely fantastic! He is such a friendly, warm, and motivating person who made the entire experience even better. Throughout the trek and our visits to the different sites, he shared so much fascinating knowledge about the rich history, traditions, and culture of the Quechua people and the Incas. David guided us throughout the entire experience. We couldn’t have wished for a better guide! A huge shout-out to our amazing cooks, Félix and José, who prepared delicious food throughout the trek. As a vegan, I was especially impressed by how much delicious vegan food they made for me. I honestly didn’t expect such a fantastic variety of meals. On top of their amazing cooking, they were both kind and lovely people. And of course, Toribio, our horseman, deserves a massive thank you as well. He did an incredible job throughout the trek. His work is physically demanding, and we could see how much effort he put in. He was also a friendly person. The entire crew made this trip unforgettable. Their professionalism, kindness, hard work, and genuine warmth made us feel welcome and cared for at every moment. The combination of stunning landscapes, fascinating cultural insights, incredible food, and such a wonderful team made this one of the highlights of our trip to Peru.

Itinerary
Day 1
1
Begin your adventure with an early morning hotel pickup from Cusco or the Sacred Valley near Pisac.
Travel to Calca and explore its lively market, where local vendors sell fresh produce, colorful textiles, and Andean specialties.
Continue to Ancashmarca, a little-known Inca site with ancient terraces and storehouses that once controlled trade routes in the valley. Drive to a high plateau to admire the rare Puyas de Raimondi, giant plants that flower only once in a century.
Descend into Lares and relax in soothing thermal baths nestled among the Andean peaks, followed by a scenic breakfast. Later, visit a women-led weaving cooperative to discover the art of natural dyes and traditional backstrap weaving techniques passed down through generations.
After breakfast, we’ll head to the tranquil town of Pamparrocal. From there, we’ll stop in Kiswarani to enjoy a freshly prepared meal before beginning our scenic hike through serene valleys, where llamas and alpacas graze freely. As the trail ascends, we’ll reach the awe-inspiring Kiswarani waterfall, a dramatic cascade tucked deep within the heart of the Andes.
Then we’ll continue our ascent to the Blue Lagoon campsite, perched at 3,900 meters. Awaiting you are a cozy tent, a steaming cup of tea, and a sky ablaze with stars, an unforgettable Andean night under the highland heavens.
Day 2
2
Wake up with a warm cup of coca tea or coffee delivered to your tent. After breakfast, begin the most challenging yet rewarding day of the trek. Hike steadily uphill through highland valleys filled with turquoise lakes, herds of alpacas, and Andean geese known as Wallatas. Reach Condor Pass at 4,750 m, the highest point of the journey, where the 360° views of the Andes are unforgettable. Take part in a traditional offering to the Apus, the sacred mountain spirits, led by your guide. Celebrate your achievement with a hot cup of coca tea at the summit. Descend for two hours to Acopata, where a hearty lunch will be ready. Continue walking downhill through dramatic andean valleys.
Arrive in the community of Canchacancha at 3,750 m, where you’ll set up camp near local homes. Spend the evening meeting villagers, playing soccer with children, practicing Quechua words, or simply relaxing as the sun sets behind the mountains.
Day 3
3
Enjoy breakfast with sweeping views of the Andes. Spend time visiting local homes and the community school, where donations of notebooks, pens, or toys are welcome.
Begin a gentle 4-hour descent through fertile valleys. Watch the landscape transform from potato and bean fields in the highlands to corn and avocado crops in the Sacred Valley. Arrive in Huaran at 2,700 m for a scenic picnic lunch and say farewell to the muleteers and chef.
Continue by private transport to the Salineras of Maras, where thousands of salt pools have been harvested since Inca times.
Explore Ollantaytambo, the “Last Living Inca Town,” where ancient stone streets, original water canals, and local people bring history to life. Afterward, enjoy a delicious dinner at a restaurant, soaking in the charm of this timeless Andean village.
Board the evening train to Aguas Calientes, winding through breathtaking Andean landscapes. Upon arrival, check into a cozy 3-star hotel and unwind in comfort, preparing for the unforgettable adventure that awaits at Machu Picchu.
Day 4
4
Start with an early breakfast at your hotel. Take the bus up to Machu Picchu to arrive at sunrise and watch the morning mist lift over the citadel.
Visit the classic viewpoints for unforgettable photos of the Inca city. Join your guide for a 2–3 hour walking tour through temples, terraces, and ceremonial areas while learning about the history, engineering and daily life of the Incas. With advance tickets, you can hike Huayna Picchu or Montaña Machu Picchu for even more incredible views.
Return to Aguas Calientes for free time and lunch at your own pace.
In the afternoon, board the panoramic Vistadome train back to Ollantaytambo, followed by a private transfer to Cusco.
Arrive in the evening with memories of mountains, communities and Machu Picchu that will last a lifetime.

We had an incredible experience with Yovani! Our group was just 4 people. The team is well organized and takes care of everything during the trek. Elisabeth was cooking amazing food in the camps! The whole team were locals, which was great as well.
My friend and I had the most amazing 4-day lares trek. We were part of a 7- person group and had the nicest and funniest guide David condori. The staff was very hardworking and friendly as well. The chef Beto, and the other staff took care of everything, made us feel really welcomed and made the best food we had in a long time. I especially appreciated that they took consideration of the fact that I’m vegan and made sure that I got a delicious substitute for every meal. We had different paces inside of the group, but David managed to give us all the time we needed, so we could enjoy the hike and views. It made it especially enjoyable with David’s jolly and joyful character and humour. Would definitely recommend it and do it again!
I just recently completed the 4 day, 3 night Luxury Lares Trek with 2 of my friends. All 3 of us that went are 35 year old males, and consider ourselves to be "somewhat" outdoorsy people. We paid 2000 dollars each for the luxury package. Before I go into the review, I would like to say, quickly, that I think it is important to acknowledge that a good part of the reason that we seek out experiences like this is to force ourselves to leave our comfortable lives and experience something different. At the end of the day, you are in the middle of the Andes Mountains, and therefore there is a limit to the comfortableness of the experience. However, with 100% certainty and confidence, can I say that our crew did everything in their power to make us feel comfortable given the limitations. Our main tour guide was Mr. G, and there were approximately 8-9 crew members, ranging from a chef to a massage therapist, etc. I think the shining light of the luxury experience was the food. At no point whatsoever did I feel like we were "roughing it" in terms of food. We were provided breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and dinner always consisted of an appetizer, a main entree, and even dessert. The level of flavor and quality of dishes that we were provided, was nothing short of a miracle. The chef of our crew, Augusto, deserves a raise, I don't care what they're currently paying him, it needs to be more. Additionally, the daily massages, effort to provide a hot shower, and general accommodating nature of the entire crew we're worth our weight in gold. Going into this experience, I actually thought that $2,000 was a bit steep a price, however now my opinion has completely reversed. I think $2,000 is actually a great value for money. I would highly recommend the luxury Lares experience, or the luxury experience in any of their hikes. The TreXperience crew were friendly, hardworking, and honest people. I can't speak highly enough about our experience
We had a great time on the Lares Trek, with wonderful scenery, time to explore local markets, a visit to hot springs, and the chance to meet a local Andean couple and learn about their way of life. There was only one really hard day of trekking, but it’s still not to be underestimated, especially at altitude. Allowing time to acclimatise in Cusco or another high-altitude Andean town beforehand is well worth it if you don’t want to feel awful! Our original guide was ill on the morning we were due to leave, but luckily Roberto stepped in at the last second—he was literally woken up at 4 am to ask if he could cover. He was fantastic: enthusiastic, full of stories about Inca culture and history, and a reassuring guide through the mountains. We had a different guide for Machu Picchu, Daniel, who was also brilliant. And yes, Machu Picchu is breathtaking and thoroughly deserves its place as a modern wonder of the world. We’d highly recommend TreXperience and the Lares Trek.
This was an outstanding experience from start to finish! David was an amazing guide, who knew an incredible amount of Peruvian and local history, and whose mountain instincts and leadership made for a truly enjoyable and secure trip despite the physical demands of the Lares Trek. The Lares trail itself is no joke and requires a high amount of endurance to climb through the Condors pass, especially given potential altitude sickness. David was always accommodating of everyone’s demands and paces and ensured we always had water, food, and a smile on our faces. Moreover, he made sure that we were all informed of daily plans, meeting locations, and was a fluent translator in English, Spanish, and Quechua, which were all helpful when talking with locals, from Ollantaytambo to Canchacancha alike. I appreciated how much David allowed us to explore the daily lives of locals living in the mountains, which proved to be one of the most eye opening experiences for our whole group during the trip. Before this trip, I expected wonderful hiking and culture, which was easily met within the first 8 hours. What I was not expecting from this trip was the degree of comfort insofar as food and camping accommodations that Trexperience provided. Our chefs, Elizabeth and Rosmel, and porter, Leandro, were some of the hardest and most attentive people I have ever met. They prepared unique hot meals three times a day, beginning with a soup course that always wowed the table, followed by other Peruvian delicacies including lomo Saltado and even a whole cake. Moreover, our campsites would already be set up for us when we got to each site after hiking, courtesy of Leandro, and even during August, the blankets and equipment provided, ensured that we were warm during nights that dipped below freezing. Additional cherries on top of this trip also include the Lares hot springs we visited the first day, and the Vistadome Observatory train from Machu Picchu to end the trek. We also hiked the optional Huayna Picchu once at Machu Picchu and would highly recommend that addition for all those interested in a uniquely challenging hike and incredible views of the citadel.
This was the most amazing experience. It really was such a beautiful time, both in the stunning scenery and the most wonderful group hiking with us. Our tour guide, David, was so knowledgeable, supportive and kind. He made the experience one million times more special, and had so many captivating stories to tell. If anyone is able to take a tour with TreXperience, they would be so lucky to have him as a tour guide! Secondly, our chefs, Elizabeth and Rosmel, were outstanding. They hiked with us through the mountains while all the while cooking the most delicious, traditional meals. They truly were superhumans and brought such happy energy to the trek. Lastly, our porter, Leandro, was exceptionally strong and organized. He beat our hike time by half almost every time despite having to handle 5 energetic mules. I was blown away by his work ethic and positive attitude throughout it all. If anyone is able to experience this trek, you would be so blessed to have anyone in this team (David, Elizabeth, Rosmel and Leandro) alongside you while you witness the breathtaking beauty of the Andes and a culture that has been the bedrock to modern society today. They truly made the experience beyond worth it.
An amazing experience Great value Four days
This will be one of the most beautiful hikes you will do in your life! The team who runs the hike is so organized and supportive of their fellow hikers. The meals were absolutely delicious, very fresh, and there was endless food for us to eat (starter, main, dessert). You cannot go hungry on this tour! It was a really authentic experience where we got to meet the local people and learn about their culture as well. The hikes were never busy or overrun with people - it was so lovely to be in nature without crowds. Our guide, Nilton, was an incredible tour guide who really cared for us. He got us hiking safely through high altitudes, deep snow, and of course, steep terrain. He prepared us really well for the hike ahead. It was a really rewarding experience, and very fun! Would do it again 10/10
I had a wonderful time on the Lares Trek as a solo female traveller. From the moment I booked, the company kept me updated and were incredibly helpful with all my questions. We also had a really useful briefing before we started, and the support, kindness and professionalism throughout the trek were second to none. I had the absolute pleasure of having Yovani as our guide, Celsio and Daniel as our chefs, and brothers Alberto and Álvaro as our horsemen. Yovani was supportive throughout, always looking out for us as we made our way up the mountains. He was very aware of our different abilities and made sure everyone felt comfortable and got the most from the experience. His love for his people and culture really came through, and our walks were filled with fascinating history, stories and information. He was a fantastic guide and always followed up on any request. Celsio and Daniel worked incredibly hard to make every meal feel like a five-star experience. From warm, nourishing breakfasts to delicious fruit and vegetables, they kept us well fed throughout. We were even treated to roast marshmallows, popcorn and a homemade cake at the end of our days! Alberto and Álvaro did all the heavy lifting and the often unseen work of setting up and carrying our equipment, always with a smile. Every member of the team took great pride in their work and gave 100%. I couldn't have asked for a better group to experience the Lares Trek with. SULPAYKI 🇵🇪 🌄
We had a wonderful experience with TreXperience ! During 4 days everything was perfect : the communication, the organization, the activities, the equipment... The chief Luiz Alberto prepared us amazing meals (delicious, hearty and gorgeous), et our guide René was so kind, patient and professional. Thank you very much to all the team ! We recommend them without hesitation.
I absolutely loved this experience and would highly recommend. The trip was well organised and the whole team from those in the office, the guide, the horsemen and chefs made it all so easy and enjoyable for us. Our guide was Yovani- wonderfully knowledgeable and passionate, friendly and very patient during the trek when I was finding some parts hard work! He did not rush us through (like I’ve heard some companies do) but rather he encouraged us to take our time and enjoy the journey- this really put me at ease and allowed us to step back and admire the incredible landscapes all around us! The horsemen (we had Viktor and Ernesto from one of the villages on the route) were friendly, professional and so hard working- they put up and took down all our tents at impressive speed and made sure we didn’t have to lift a finger! The chefs (Celso and Daniel) are true magicians, cooking delicious, varied and comforting meals along the way- in a tent! Lots of little extra touches like happy hour (tea, coffee and snacks) and hot water bottles at night added to our comfort and enjoyment. They all take so much pride in their work and want you to have the best experience, which we absolutely did. For me, the trek was a good balance of hiking and feeling like I’d accomplished something whilst also experiencing the culture of the Andean villages, seeing breathtaking landscapes and getting to see some other spots like markets, hot springs, Maras Salt Mines and Ollantaytambo and of course visiting Macchu Picchu on the final day which is as incredible as everyone says! Take warm clothes for the nights and early mornings. I’d also recommend hiring a sleeping bag from them as it was really warm and comfortable.
We booked through Bookatrekking and went with TreXperience. Wehave really enjoyed both the trekking( beautiful nature and scenery) and the the whole experience. The Larestreck is a little less touristic, so you feel like you’re the only one in the mountains. Our small group was very well taken care of by our local guide William, the very good chef freddy accompanied bij chef assistent Juvanil and horsman julian. Because of the Holidays two of them too there 12 year old Boys with him. They helped very wel and want to become a guide one day.
Filio was an amazing guide. Friendly, approachable, and knowledgeable. Pleasure to work with. Luis Alberto, our chef was amazing and so much good. He and Elder, his assistant were great. The TreXperience office staff was a different story. Changing plans with little notice, misinformation, not following through with what they said they would do. That was disappointing.
Absolute 100/10 experience. We were 2 women travelling and it ended up being a private tour of just us, we felt completely safe and beyond comfortable — truly we received a princess treatment for 4 full days. Our guide, Elias, is the best guide I’ve ever gotten on hikes — very knowledgeable and supportive through the hike and during rest times, if you happen to get him, truly a gem. The food was UNBELIEVABLE, our cook Fredy (with his assistant Léon) was so talented and provided huge portions of some of the best food I’ve ever had (also they are extremely accomplished in vegetarian alternatives!). Our horseman Toribio was so speedy and got us the best campsites every single night (because yes they race between companies haha! We were super glad to be with TreXperience every night!) The entire team set up everything and had all aspects of this trip so well planed and thought through it allowed us to just enjoy the hike. Which on that note, the Lares Trek offered the most beautiful sights I have ever witnessed from my own eyes, and I’ve hiked and traveled a lot. The breaks in the little villages were peaceful and allowed us to be emerged in Lares/Peruvian culture, and there weren’t as many people as other treks. Overall, incredible experience, would redo exactly the same with this team any day! Thank you so much to the 4 of them!
We completed the combined 5 days/4 nights Lares Trek + Short Inca Trail. The Lares Trek was run by guide, David, who was positive, knowledgeable and full of good energy. The chefs, Augusto and Alex, cooked amazing food, including producing a cake on the third morning (I don't know how they did it!). Then we moved onto the Short Inca Trail where we had the privilege of spending time with guide Thoni (or Tony, or Thony, or Tony Montana) who was probably the best guide we've ever had in all of our travels. He was incredibly knowledgeable about the trail and Machu Picchu. Rather than just listing a bunch of facts, Thoni went deep into the connections between Incan society, culture, and spirituality. He embodied the knowledge and was deeply passionate about the area. All of the other guides knew Thoni and he appears to be highly respected amongst his peers. He was also great company at dinner on the night of Day 1. We felt privileged to be in the presence of Thoni, an authentic and kind person, generous with his knowledge. While many tour guides are like AI robots, Thoni is the real deal. We miss you already Thoni!
Our Lares Trek was incredible and unforgettable! Our guide, David, was such a wonderful support and kept great care of us. The views were breathtaking and serene (with very little foot traffic so we felt like it was a spiritual experience!) While the trek was challenging at times, it was worth it for the views. We also got to spend time in local villages which made for a really special cultural experience. Highly recommend, we wouldn't change this experience!
We had an amazing experience on the Lares Trek and visiting Machu Picchu. The landscapes were beautiful, and the whole adventure was very interesting. A big thank you to our guide, Elias, for his dedication and great explanations throughout the trek. Thanks as well to Julio and Jeymi for the delicious and varied meals. Thanks to Leandro and his horses, the of Leandro as horseman was precious.
We had an excellent and challenging experience on the Lares Trek. The food was excellent and local sights and culture was amazing. The Lares region had very few tourists and felt much less commercial than some other areas we have been. Our tour guide, Toribio, did a fantastic job explaining the Incan culture and assisting my wife on some of the slippery / steep downhills. Memories will last a lifetime.
Our guide Toro is an excellent guide and helped us the entire hike. The views along the hiking trek is fantastic and surreal. The food cooked by the chef was amazing for every meal.
We had an excellent 3 day Lares trek with guide Royer, enjoyable pace with a fun, patient knowledgeable guide. The food from cook Leandro was excellent and plentiful. We then linked into the 2 day short Inca trail with a group and excellent guide Elias. Pack warm layers the cold mornings and nights at higher altitude Lares while Inca trail was much warmer. Would recommend using Trexperience and would use them again if returning to Peru.
Everything was well organised and really fun! Our tour guide Fernando, as well es our chef Leandro and the other staff, were really professional and exceeded my expectations. As a vegan, they provided a lot of different foods to choose from! Fernando has amazing knowledge about the area, including the nature, the locals and of course history. The camps were set up on time and they made their best effort to give us a comfortable environment where we could rest and just focus on the hikes. We were even able to visit a local family and ask them questions. Also we learned about the traditions, for example how to properly make an offering. You can meet a variety of animals including Lamas, Alpakas and Chinchillas, which I loved. The Lares Trek is really diverse and provides you with a lot of different experiences, whilst you’re in good hands and well cared for. Don’t underestimate the hikes tho! Highly recommend!
We had a great experience doing the Lares trek. We chose this trek over the more well known Inca Trail or Salkantay trek because it is more focused on nature and culture, and we found this to be absolutely true. Our guide Fernando had so much interesting knowledge to share about the local flora and fauna, and told us all about it on the trail. He is also from the area, so he knows many of the locals. This way we could visit a local family and learn about their culture and traditions in a very authentic way, with Fernando translating the local language (Quechua). We found the trail itself to be challenging but rewarding, and visiting Machu Picchu at the end was really amazing. Overall the whole trek was very well organized, including the great food prepared by the staff and the hard work of the porters.
We had the best time on the Lares Trek. Nilton our guide was really kind and Ramon our cook made us the best meals ! The landscape is amazing, there are not many trekkers so you feel you have the route for yourself. We recommend this experience to everyone, you will not regret it.
Lares & Short Inca trail was the highlight of our 3 month trip. The guides, chefs, porters and all other staff were very helpful and the food was exceptional. 10/10 recommend.
Amazing trek with one longer day up to the high up pass near a glacier and two shorter days either side. The crew were fantastic, the food delicious and Freddy’s guidance and knowledge worth it all!
My first solo trip, met some great people and of course our amazing tour guide Nilton. The trexperience team took very good care of us, providing amazing meals and many laughs throughout the journey. Nilton was very knowledgeable about the area and helped connect us with the local villagers, providing an experience that went far beyond just trekking. We were exposed to beautiful scenery, people, and culture throughout this journey, thanks to Nilton, Santos, Jheymy and Lorenzo, this challenging trek was very accessible, even for beginners. They truly connected with us as a group, and not only made it accessible, but also made it a truly unforgettable experience. I highly recommend this trek!
Local life by visiting a neighbour house, breathtaking scenery with local animals ,top level care from the team, simple but super tasty food every single meal, super cool Nilton our guide being helpful' understanding our trekking challenges and always being helpful, fun and smiley, very well organized and customer focus trip having all ready for you with a smile after long trekking days. The camp locations next to Rivers, horses and villages were the icing on the cake! It was more than trekking and I would definitely recommend it even to beginners with some prep to hi t the 4700m altitude! Thank you for the great experience!
Fantastic experience! The sights you see on this trip are honestly amazing, getting a glimpse of the way the locals live and the culture really makes it a once in a lifetime experience. The food was excellent the whole trip and porters were always helpful. Although it was our guide Filio that made the trip, his knowledge of his land, culture and past really elevated the trip. Always ready for a laugh and always has some wisdom to share. I would absolutely recommend this tour and especially Filio to anyone. Thanks! Michael.
If you are looking for a guide who offers more than just a hike, Filio is your man. Our 4-day Lares trek was less of a typical tour and more of an authentic immersion into the Andean way of life. Filio went above and beyond. He shared local insights that you won't find in an internet and taught us Quechua. One of the most unforgettable experiences was when he helped us bring supplies from a local market to a family living high in the mountains, it was an eye opening experience to see how people live in these remote areas. Waking up next to alpacas and sheep, and crossing the 4,400m Condor Pass with glaciers towering overhead was amazing, and finally seeing Machu Picchu arrising from the fog. Some places you visit, but with a guide like Filio, this is a trip you earn. I cannot recommend him enough!
The 4-day Lares Trek was easily one my favourite trips. The Condor pass and visiting a local family was definitely the highlight of the trip. I also want to give a special shout out to our guide, Filio. He was funny, warm, kind and incredibly generous. He brought so much positive energy to the group. You could tell he genuinely cares, about both the culture, and the people he’s guiding. Couldn’t recommend this trek more, if you’re looking for an adventure, def consider this trip✌️✌️✌️
The food was incredible, you definitely will not go hungry, the staff was very friendly and hard working, overall a great experience
We had the greatest time with Ramon ( our chef) , Jamie and Toriuio (our porters) and lastly our amazing tour guide Filio!
It was an amazing experience that I highly recommend. The team Filio, Ramon, Jaime and Torivio made the trip spectacular
We had a wonderful experience in our trekking through the Lares valley. Our guida, David, was more than great! Awesome photographer and great guide, sharing with us all the information he knew about the history, the culture and the people living in the sounding areas. He thought us how to offer our kintu and play the pututu. I'll never forget the feeling of being at the top of the Pachacutec mountain, looking at thePitusiray glaciar. The food was incredible, too much for just the both of us, and considering the altitude, which doesn't allow you to digest properly. But our cooker Beto created amazing dishes and experiences. Feeling really graceful for the experience and the company.
Really amazing experience with Nilton and his fellow hosts, explained things well and helped us work well as a team!
My guide Filio was amazing. A local man who was friendly, loves a laugh and is passionate as they come. He provided us with everything you could ask for, was always courteous and went out of his way to ensure we had an amazing time. His English was excellent and his knowledge of the mountains and the history of the Inca empire is outstanding. I would highly recommend requesting him for you own trip.
The Lares trek was an amazing experience. If you want to actually see the culture and experience the undisturbed mountains. Filio was a fantastic guide, his energy, humour and pride of Inca history made the trip unforgettable. Machu Picchu was incredible as to be expected. Also the food was sensational.
Our November trip with Trexperience was an unforgettable experience. The small group size, the excellent program, and our fantastic guide Neil made the journey truly special. We especially appreciated Trexperience’s strong sense of social responsibility, including organizing the purchase of food and toys to donate to a local family we visited. My adult children absolutely loved the trek. Although I couldn’t take part in the hike itself, Trexperience made sure to include me in every possible way. A memory for a lifetime.
We had the best time doing this 4 days hike! We saw the best views of our life’s. I would recommend this trip for any ages. We are 4 girls that are 19 years old and this fit perfectly for us! Tairo had great knowledge about the Inca culture and explained everything in the best way for us to understand. We got really close to Inca culture by visiting a local family and kids on our way. AND the food on this trip was really 5/5 stars. Feliz and Salvador impressed us with real Peru food! The food would be perfect for anyone! The experience was also unique because we came to a ready camp with tents after all the walks. Jerónimo and his horses did an excellent job doing this and also carrying our heavy backpacks! Only reminder for people going on this hike is bringing warm clothes, because it gets really cold in the night (even for us Norwegians:)
Epic trip with great friends made unforgettable by the Trexperience team! I can’t imagine a better way to experience the journey to Machu Picchu! Frank, his guides , Chef Julio and his team, and the rest of the crew were there for anything we needed and more! Best in the business.
Sebastian was the most amazing, knowledgeable, friendly tour guide and made the trip incredible. It was just me and a friend on the tour and we had an amazing time. The first day we had breakfast in the mountains and visited Inca ruins where we were the only people there! Later we visited hot springs and began the hike. The first day of walking was about 3 hours overall. We camped by a lake and there were only 3 other tourists in the camp over. The second day hike was slightly more challenging but was only 4 hours so felt manageable and it snowed once we were at the top. After we got to camp (surrounded by llamas and alpacas) we visited a local family and gave them some gifts. The final day of the hike was leisurely and we later went to the salt mines and ollataytambo which Sebastian was super knowledgeable about. The hotel in augas caliente was very nice and it meant we were some of the first ones in line for the bus to Machu Picchu. Again, Sebastian gave us some great insights which meant we could really appreciate what we were experiencing. Rosalio and Edison cooked us some of the best food we had in Peru. Every day it was something different but it was all amazing. Toribio, the horse man, was so efficient and set up and took down camp every day. He also woke us up with coffee every morning. It really was a luxury experience. If you’re looking for a not too intense hike with lovely views and areas which not many tourists see I would highly recommend.
Great experience, especially with our very funny, experienced and full of knowledge guide Filio, we walked through rain and snow, which was not ideal, but we were really taking care of. Great food and natural highlights, time with native family wasn't long , but I guess that depends of the time of the year.
Really positive, very nice guide, and really good food - everything was well-organized. Can recommend it. The trek was not too hard, nor too demanding. Makes the trip to Machu Picchu much more interesting.
We visited several archaeological sites, ending with Machu Picchu. On the way back way took the Peru Rail train with a panoramic view. Amazing sight seeing, delicious food, and an unforgettable experience. Monica was a phenomenal tour guide!
I travelled together with my boyfriend and his brother from The Netherlands, it was our first time in Peru together and we decided to do the Lares Trek for 4 days. It was the highlight of our trip! We had a wonderful experience, with unexpected weather changes, our amazing guide Filio never let us give up and motivated the group through the whole trip with a fantastic energy. Our travel group consisted of 5 travelers and together with Filio and the rest of the crew we experienced unforgettable memories. The food was great during the entire trek, and the tents were very solid. I would recommend this trek 100%! Be ready for amazing views, great company and many new lessons about the great Inca empire.
Chefs Zenobio and Rosailo cooked a delicious high protein and calorie dense meal. Just what is needed for this hike. Horseman and porters Gregorio and Philepe were very organized when setting up camp and made amenities very comfortable for our group The tour group I was with was a great vibe and we got along well. Renato was our head guide and he led the trek while Miguel our assistant guide looked after us from behind. They were very chill and knowledgeable tour guides and they are very passionate in their work. I will definitely recommend trekxperience to other people looking to explore peru.
My sister and I did the 3-day Lares Trek and half Inca trail to Machu Picchu (2 days) for a total of 5 days, 4 nights. Our experience was nothing short of incredible. Every member of our team was kind and welcoming from the very first moment. It ended up being just the two of us on the Lares Trek, with Elias as our guide. He was so encouraging, kind, and fun. The views on this trail were incredible and we feel like we got the most authentic experience of Peru, visiting tucked away markets on the first day and local families on the way. Shoutout to our team that was with us the full 3 days as well, transporting our belongings, setting up our campsites, and cooking the best multi-course meals. Our chef, Tiburcio, truly went above and beyond. He even made me a cake for my birthday which happened to land on the second day of our trek (still not sure how he did it without an oven!). As for the half Inca trail, it was a dream to hike into Machu Picchu. Our guides, Jason and Miguel, again were amazing. Jason was a wealth of knowledge, explaining the history behind all the places we visited both on the hike and during our pauses. Miguel is such a sweetheart. I really enjoyed his company, he was incredibly accommodating and kind. Overall, a 10/10 experience with TreXperience.
Ok! We actually see this as two separate reviews. One for the 3 days Lares Trek and one for the 2 day Inca trail. First off, the Lares trek. We were met by our guide Anthony the night before we left who totally prepped us for what was to come. What we didn’t know at the time was just how lucky we were to have Anthony as our guide at the beginning of the trip but our friend by the end of it. Anthony and his team Beto, Oscar and Leonardo were absolutely sensational! They were knowledgeable, helpful, caring, and really opened their hearts up to us. They truly made it feel like a home away from home and we learned so much from them. Not to mention the food was delicious and they accommodated us as vegetarians without problem! The sad part is that this review is only out of 5. We would give it 10 without hesitation. Anthony and his team went above and beyond and there are no words that will capture our true appreciation for them. Second. The Inca trail. We were met by a new guide to lead the Inca trail , our group was a bit larger than it was with Anthony, but since Anthony was on the Inca Trail with us, we still felt right at home. He made sure that we were ok and still taught us so much along the way. There was a bit more hustle and bustle with a larger group like this but again, the team did their best given the situation. A few bumps along this road included another couple who pre booked Huayna Picchu and got confirmation of their ability to climb it from the company~ but on the day before found out that they would not be able to hike it because the confirmation actually didn’t happen. Another bump was that a passenger prebook their trip on one passport and then sent the information to the company to update it. They said they updated it but once arriving they said they had no such update in their books. Luckily the passenger had a photo of their old passport….the final bump in the road was that the company graciously taken a the group out to dinner on the 4th night. There is a set menu but unfortunately over 25% of the group got a stomach bug / food poisoning from the restaurant. It was so bad for one individual that they couldn’t do the Machu Picchu grounds tour the next day. Here, we felt some of the logistics contributed to a lower satisfaction rate among the group we were with. We understand things like this happen~ though having the administrative issues and the food issues happen in back to back days made it feel like a few things just need slightly tightened up to get a 5/5 review for this part. We hope the administrative aspects have been discussed with the team so other travels don’t experience that and we hope that the company has spoken specifically with the Sami restaurant about what happened so that future visitors don’t have the same experience. Being said, we still believe that because the first part of the Trek was above and beyond that it made of for the mistakes in the second part for our overall review of 5/5. In summary. Lares Trek with Anthony, Beto, Oscar, and Leonardo. We would do again and again! Short 2 day Inca Trail, we would want to double and triple check all logistics again to make sure that everything we requested is sorted. Sulpayki Anthony team!
wow, I just finished the four day Lares Trek and it was above and beyond what I could’ve imagined. So amazing! Our guide Nilton was incredibly knowledgeable, friendly, helpful, and funny. He was just completely awesome! And our chef Augusto and his sous chef Oscar and the entire staff the horsemen, everyone was so friendly and helpful all the time. Our chef cooked on a tiny camp stove, but he made delicious gourmet dishes, including bananas flambet for dessert and a birthday cake for me (without an oven!). I highly recommend and would travel with this company anywhere! my only tips are too prepare for very cold weather at night with lots of layers and bring your own small pillow or make a pillow out of clothes because the provided pillow was not very comfortable. otherwise five stars all around!
