Our four days on the Inca Trail with Alpaca Expeditions were some of the hardest and most memorable days of our trip to Peru. Between the rain, the early wake-up calls, and the climb to Dead Woman’s Pass, I was especially grateful to have Joyce and Yarida as our guides. You could tell right away how experienced Joyce was. He kept an eye on everyone, made sure we were safe, and cared that every person in the group made it. I especially appreciated how real he was with us. He shared the history of the Incas and also talked candidly about everyday life in Peru and what it’s like to work as a porter on the trail. He didn’t sugarcoat the hard parts, and those conversations stayed with me long after the hike. And the food! Cecilio, our chef, somehow made meals I’d be excited to eat anywhere, let alone after a long day of hiking in the rain. Sitting down to a hot, genuinely delicious meal was one of the things I looked forward to most each day. Thank you to Joyce, Yarida, Cecilio, and the entire porter team for taking such good care of us. Finally seeing Machu Picchu was incredible, and so much of what I’ll remember about getting there is because of you.

We will start our journey along the ancient path of the Incas. We will hike to Llactapata, our first Inca site. From here we will hike for another 2 hours until our lunch spot. Our team of porters and trekking chefs will have the campsite ready for you to enjoy a hot lunch. All the meals will be cooked at the spot and you will have the chance to refill your camel bags with safe drinkable water. After a rest, you will continue for about 2 hours until getting to Ayapata. Our campsite to spend the night. Dinner will be served here and you will enjoy the open sky and the silence before resting.
Day 2

After a well-deserved breakfast, we will start with a 4-hour ascent toward the highest point of the Inca Trail: the Dead Woman’s Pass or Warmi Wañusqa (4215 meters/13829 feet). Admire the whole trail from the highest point to the get down towards the Pacaymayu River. Enjoying amazing views and then head down towards our lunch spot. After a rest, start the ascent towards the second pass, Runccuracay Pass. Once here, you will be able to enjoy the archaeological site and also the privileged views of two beautiful waterfalls. The hike down will be short and easy. We will go towards Chaquicocha or Dry Lake where our campsite is. You will enjoy a happy hour provided by our trekking chef to then enjoy a great diner. This is the hardest day and you will be rewarded for accomplishing it.

We will start our last ascent towards Phuyupatamarka (3600 meters) from this place we can witness the Urubamba River and also have a glance of Machu Picchu from a distance. A 3-hour walk down will be needed to reach our last campsite. On the way we will discover beautiful sites such as Phuyupatamarka (Town in the Clouds) and Intipata (Terraces of the Sun). Our lunch will be served at the last campsite. Once you have eaten and rested, we will continue and will go to the biggest site in the Inca Trail, the beautiful Wiñay Wayna (Forever young) site. This day is the easiest day of the Inca Trail and it’s in order to save energy to the last day, Machu Picchu.

I did the 4 day Inca trail tour with alpaca expeditions. With Raul and Emmerson as our guides. I am amazed by the quality of the tour, the food and have had an incredible time. The weather was also amazing for the entire time.
An incredible 4-day Inca Trail experience with Alpaca Expeditions! As the oldest in our group, I especially appreciated the encouragement and support that helped to complete this challenging trek. A special thank you to Raul, our lead guide, and Emerson, our assistant guide. They had a wonderful way of keeping everyone on schedule while maintaining a great sense of humor and a "familia" atmosphere. The camaraderie among our group from 4 different countries was fantastic. Plus the food was absolutely amazing and I have no idea how they prepared these meals each day with even cake the last night! The entire crew worked tirelessly to make this adventure unforgettable. I highly recommend Alpaca Expeditions to anyone considering the Inca Trail, regardless of age or hiking pace. Truly an experience I will always treasure!
My husband and I completed the 4-day, 3-night Inca Trail trek with Alpaca Expeditions last week. Despite the rainy weather during the first two days, we thoroughly enjoyed the experience, largely thanks to our incredibly knowledgeable guide, Bernie, and his helpful assistant, Walter. Bernie was exceptional! He was well-organized, attentive to every member of the group, and always made sure everyone was doing well. His encouragement and support helped us overcome both the physical and emotional challenges of the trek. He was also an excellent planner who managed the entire team smoothly and efficiently. Bernie also had a wonderful sense of humour, which brought laughter and positive energy to the group. We spent three nights camping in tents, and the food was another highlight of the trip. Our chef, Wilburt, prepared delicious, healthy, and beautifully presented meals every day. On the last day, he even managed to bake a wonderful cake for a couple in our group who were celebrating their honeymoon! We were amazed at what he could create with such limited facilities. One thing that particularly impressed me about Alpaca Expeditions was the respect and appreciation shown to all their staff, including the porters and chef. Bernie made a point of recognizing everyone’s hard work and contributions, which was wonderful to see. Overall, it was a memorable and rewarding experience, made even more special by the dedication, kindness, and professionalism of the entire team. We would highly recommend Alpaca Expeditions!
Guides (Rolando & Joel) were so informative and passionate about the history or the Incan empire. The food was amazing. The porters were incredibly hard working and friendly. The vistas and views were incredible. The only downside were the national park restroom conditions.
This was an incredible trekking tour!!!! Our guides Jhymy and David were dedicated to every detail, from the orientation before departure to the arrival at Machu Picchu. Delicious food was provided by Sergio the chef. I really felt cared for and learned a lot about Incan history. Absolutely recommend Alpaca Expeditions!!
5+ Stars! Inca Trail 4D/3N Group Trip. I can’t say enough amazing things about this trip. Every aspect of it exceeded my expectations. I’m so thankful we decided to hike the Inca Trail and trusted our journey with Alpaca Expeditions! Guides: Our guides were Alexander and Ever. They were absolutely wonderful. Their knowledge, efficiency, humor, and kindness blew my husband and I away. They were constantly checking in with everyone to make sure our group was happy. They made all of us feel like a family, including the chefs and porters. Alex’s knowledge of the ruins was so detailed and he was an incredible story teller. Both of their English is impeccable. They also went out of their way to take pictures of us at the important spots. Chefs: Wow! Fabien was our head chef. We had no idea the food would be so amazing. Every meal was delicious with 4-5 different dishes including meats, rice, vegetables, breads. They went out of their way to accommodate people with food preferences or allergies (vegetarians/gluten free). They even made us a surprise, beautiful cake for our anniversary. Porters: By far the hardest workers I’ve ever met. All of our belongings were cared for and ready for us, including our tent, when we arrived at camp every day. Logistics: Every detail of the trip was extremely organized. This included the meeting the night before the trip, storing our luggage and getting back to the airport. Lastly, this company is a local company that only hires local people. This is incredibly important as the funds are funneling back into the local people. I’m happy to answer any questions you might have about this trip! Thank you Alpaca Expeditions!
Just came back from the Inka Trail. Our tour guide, Alex has been amazing, all the way through the journey. Such a fantastic organisation. The Porters , the Chefs looked after us and of course Ever , the other guide was there to help us. Thank you again. Pierluca
Incredible trek made possible by the wonderful team of porters, chefs, masseuses, and guides. The Inca Trail has been on our bucket list for a very long time - to be able to experience it and the wonder of Machu Picchu with the team at Alpaca Expeditions was a true honor. The luxury 4D/3N experience was worth every penny - our amazing guides Saul, Rolando, Joel and Kenyo knew exactly how to support each person, I’ll forever be grateful to them. The chefs Armando and Gregory prepared 3-4 course meals for each and every breakfast, lunch and dinner; we were all amazed that they could prepare such extravagant meals in the middle of the mountains. Incredible experience, could not recommend this enough!
This was the best time ever!! It was challenging, but I always felt extremely supported and cared for by the guides, chefs, and the porters. It was a very special experience that I will never forget. The guide Saul helped me many times to push myself forward despite fear of heights. I will forever be grateful to Alpaca expeditions for the unforgettable adventure. Thank you Saul, Rolando, Joel, and Kenya - our amazing guides
Our guides Alexander and Ever were AWESOME! They were super caring, helpful, and knowledgeable. They had a great rapport with entire group and it was so fun. The meals were excellent. Everyone was so surprised with the meals the chef was able to serve—Not camp food at all! The super porters were impressive and encouraging. Overall, a great experience! Highly recommend Alpaca Expeditions.
Thoroughly enjoyed this hike. The porters and guides were amazing and I can’t believe what they did with the food! Would highly recommend this trip. Hiring the air mattress would be highly recommend hiring the air mattress.
Very very great inca trail with alpaca expedition! Organisation was really good and everthing from beginning to end was arraganed, really good and friendly porters, food was delicious and impressive and our guides Alex and Ever were so amazing, really enthousiastic en could tell a lot about Inca buildings en history! Highly recommend!❤️🫶🏼
I had an amazing experience with Alpaca Expeditions. The guides are engaged and cared about us throughout the experience. This was my first time doing a hike and felt safe the entire time. I highly highly recommend this hike for everyone.
Had a great time on the trek with our guide Juan Carlos Huilca, assistant guide Daniel, and chef Alfredo. Amazing journey through stunning terrain, and delicious food. Mi gusta caminar
Jean Carlo was an amazing guide ! The porters and the whole team made the experience amazing ! There was some wrenches that got thrown into the plans but they made quick adjustments and made it flawless ! Jean Carlo was very educated about the history of the Inca community! Will recommend!
What can we say? This trip was on my husband’s bucket list for over 30 years. I surprised him on his birthday and he almost cried. First, Peru is a very special place. The attention to ecological and historical importance was moving. The trek was one of the hardest things we have ever done - physically and mentally. But also one of the most cherished and exceptional experiences! And we’re NOT young! Lol. It was a spiritual journey reminding us what we can do - mind and body. Life changing for sure. Our guides, Javier and Laddi are among the most inspiring and compassionate people we had the pleasure of spending time with for the entire 4 days. They helped us with everything!! We were so exhausted that on many parts of the hike they carried our backpacks. If it wasn’t for them, the amazing porters, kitchen staff and that delicious warm soup we consumed daily, I wouldn’t have lasted. I was not feeling great due to the altitude and unable to eat. They made sure I was nourished and drank plenty of water. They watched over us like family. 🙏🏼 We had a white glove experience. We worried about nothing- not food, water, shelter or safety. They truly took care of everything we wanted or needed. The food the chef was able to create on a camping stove was beyond belief. The fees for the entries were very reasonable and our tour package a great value for the money. Alpaca Expeditions is worth every cent. We met such fun and interesting people in our group (dubbed Sexy Gonzalez!). We missed them as soon as we left. A truly bonding experience that will not be forgotten. We HIGHLY recommend Alpaca to anyone looking for a great Machu Picchu adventure. We miss you Javier and Laddi ❤️❤️❤️ Muchas gracias!!
Brilliant trip with everything catered for beyond all expectations in a remote mountain environment. Staff (lead guide Juan Carlos Huillca Sayritupa and assistant guide Daniel) were knowledgable, helpful and welcoming. They made sure spirits were high despite the weather. But mercifully the weather cleared as we reached Machu Picchu!
An incredible 4-day adventure to reach the wonderful Machu Picchu, guided by Juan Carlos Huillca and Daniel.Everything was very well organized, the group was fantastic, the meals prepared by our cook, Alfredo, were excellent—an adventure to remember forever
I have just finished the classic 4-day Inca Trail with Alpaca Expeditions and I had a FANTASTIC time. Bernie and Walter were incredible guides with fantastic English speaking and great knowledge about each of the Inca sites we visited along the trail. By the end of Day 1 our group were all friends and by the end of Day 4 we were family. The cook (Wilbur) cooked us delicious meals morning, noon and night, and nothing was too much for the Alpaca team. I also appreciated the care that the company put in with their porters who were provided with lots of good quality equipment, and were clearly highly appreciated by the tour guides. I will certainly be recommending this company (which is owned by a Peruvian ex-porter) to my friends who visit this beautiful part of Peru in the future. Thank you to Bernie and Walter for getting us to the Sun Gate FIRST (!) and allowing us to see Machu Picchu in all it's beauty. P.S I really appreciate the time that Walter took to explain other Inca sites to me - as someone who is very interested in archaeology, I felt extremely satisfied.
We’ve just finished the 4-day Inca Trail with Alpaca Expeditions and genuinely had the BEST time. It was one of the best things we’ve ever done. Our guides, Bernie and Walter, were absolutely brilliant. Their knowledge and passion for the Inca Trail and its history really added to the whole experience. They brought so much knowledge, good vibes and encouragement, and were incredibly supportive whenever anyone in the group was struggling. Our chef, Wilbur, was absolutely amazing. The food was unbelievable — how he managed to produce such incredible meals for us morning, noon and night while we were trekking is beyond us! Every meal was something to look forward to. Our whole group really bonded, and a lot of that was down to Bernie and Walter and how smoothly everything was organised by Alpaca Expeditions. We felt so well looked after from beginning to end. The trek itself was phenomenal. It was definitely challenging at times, especially with the rain, but it was 100% worth every single step. Arriving at Machu Picchu after four days on the trail was something we’ll never forget. One of the best experiences we’ve ever had. We’re so grateful to Bernie, Walter, Wilbur and the whole Alpaca team for making it so special. Couldn’t recommend Alpaca Expeditions highly enough. 100% recommend! 🥾⛰️💚🇵🇪
Alpaca expeditions is exactly what you are looking for if you are wanting to do the 4 day inca trail. Our guides Bernie and Walter were extremely knowledgeable and professional and got us through the crazy unpredictable Andean weather on this long trek. And you wouldn't think you'd be eating well out in the middle of the Andes mountains, but our camp cook Wilbur kept us so well fed on multi course Peruvian food that seems impossible to make in the middle of nowhere. This company supports and employs locals so is really the best to book if you want to improve the lives of those you come to visit on your way to Machu Picchu.
A great tour and a great experience with Juan Carlos Huillca Sayritupa and Daniel as our guides. Extremely fun and knowledgeable. Would definitely recommend.
Bernie and Walter with alpaca expeditions made our hike to Machu Picchu incredible. The food was also phenomenal. Wilbur cooked up amazing meals every single day. 10/10 great experience!!
alpaca adventures is a top notch was to explore and trek to Machu Pichu. Bernie, Walter, the porters and chef were excellent in motivation and knowledge. I can’t recommend this company enough if you want to see the Inca trail
We had an incredible experience with Alpaca Expeditions on the 4 day 3 night Inca trail. Bernie was extremely knowledgeable on Inca history, the trails, and the expedition as a whole. He was also very helpful with any hiccups on the trip, and kept the entire expedition running very smoothly. Walter was a great spirit, helping cheer up the group and was amazing to hang out with every step of the way. The food cooked by Chef Wilbur was fantastic throughout the whole tour. I couldn’t recommend the Inca trail with alpaca, specially Bernie, Walter, and Wilbur any higher. It was one of the best experiences of my life!
10/10 experience. Would do it again. Juan Carlos is funny & great.
Just returned home from a trip to the Inca Trail with Valentin and his team. Except for the weather (2 days of rain) everything was just perfect! Food was excellent (thanks to Gregorio), porters (Moises and Frank) were sympathetic and Valentin… simply the best guide you could ask for (professional, patient, funny and very knowledgeable). If you book with Alpaca (which I recommended) ask for him, you won’t be disappointed… I promise!!
The trip was amazing from start to finish. Everyone at Alpaca expeditions was absolutely incredible. Our tour guides Javi, Walter and Reinaldo took great care of us, sharing their incredible knowledge of the local history, flora and fauna as well as keeping spirits up in sometimes challenging weather. The food deserves special mention. Carmelo and his team routinely performed culinary miracles, preparing food that wouldn’t have disgraced a professional kitchen, and was far above what I would have thought possible in a tent halfway up a mountain in the pouring rain. The hike is obviously not easy, but everyone at Alpaca from the porters to the tour guides certainly made it feel a lot easier than it was.
Most incredible experience i have ever had. Javier, Renaldo and Walter were the most amazing and perfect tour guides you could ever have. They knew the culture, they took care of us and the attention to detail was second to none. These are very good people doing a phenomenal job of representing the heritage of the Incas while taking us on a very difficult trek through the Andes. Highly Highy recommend!!!
Unbelievable experience! Our tour guide Javier was incredibly knowledgeable and Walter and Raynaldo were amazing tour 'uncles'. I especially appreciated their local knowledge and how friendly they were. Walter had an immense knowledge of local flora and fauna and Raynaldo always had a smile. The food was the absolute highlight thanks to amazing hesd chef Carmello. And the porters did an insane job getting everything moved and organised (especially in the rain!), so special thanks to head porter Mario. Such a cool experience, would definitely recommend.
Alpaca Expeditions was the best experience I’ve done in any country. Javier, Walter, and Reynaldo were the best guide team I could have asked for. They made an incredible experience even better with their knowledge, care, kindness, and humor. For a once in a lifetime opportunity I couldn’t recommend them more.
Javier, Walter & Ronaldo were the best guides for this special experience for me. So kind, a lot of knowledge and they wanted always the best for the whole group. A big big highlight of my trip through Peru. Once in a lifetime experience
Amazing trip. Food was above expectations and the tour guides Javier, Walter and Reynaldo were incredible. An amazing experience and I would highly recommend Alpaca expeditions
Javier, Ronaldo and Walter were wonderful guides keeping spirits up even when wet weather came against us. Very knowledgeable and caring, thank you to them all
The best multi day hike I have ever been on. Carlos Sayritupa and Isaac Gonzalez were amazing, professional and catered for all paces and needs. if ever you book with Alpaca Expeditions and end up with Carlos and Issac, consider yourself lucky. Thank you guys for the an unforgettable experience!
The whole trip from start to finish was an experience of a lifetime. The only thing I could fault was the rain on day 2. Our guides, John Carlos and Isa, were very helpful and also very knowledgeable on everything to do with the Inca Trail. This was a one-off trip of a lifetime for me with my daughter. The going was hard sometimes but the views more than made up for the effort required.
Amazing experience, the guides were spectacular, the tents had some leakage but that was the only issue
Absolutely incredible. Highly recommend. Make sure you don't go in the rainy season!
The hike was absolutely incredible. The views and history make this the experience of a lifetime. It's a tough hike (day 2 is killer), but well worth it in the end. Everything was perfectly organized from the pickup from our hotel to the drop-off at the end. Our guides (Rolando and Joel) were knowledgeable, helpful, insightful and super accommodating of everyone's needs. The food was amazing; chef Fabian performed miracles. The food was far better than anything you would expect on a hike. The porters also did an amazing job of overtaking us every morning to have lunch and our campsite set up before we even arrived. They made the trail look easy while we struggled along behind them. Alpaca also does a great job of giving back to the community, which makes it feel even better to support them.
This was absolutely one of the most incredible experiences of my life - memories to last a lifetime. What an amazing way to discover one of the Inca trails to Machu Picchu. Breathtaking scenery and so much biodiversity to see along the way. Our guides Rolando and Joel were deeply knowledgeable and gave everything their own sense of fun. The porters deserve a big shout out - they are athletes, and are integral to making the process as smooth for non-seasoned hikers as possible. Each and every meal was delicious - top restaurant quality magicked together with ingredients all carried up by the porters. I would wholeheartedly recommend Alpaca Expeditions to anyone looking to explore the Inca trail.
We had a wonderful 4 days doing the Inca Trail. The guide Juan Carlos was brilliant, fun and very informative. The food on the trek was incredible and all the equipment provided was of a good quality. Highly recommend this company, clear instructions and a great week was had.
I had an awesome time! My group was fantastic and our guides Juan-Carlos Huillca Sayritupa and Isaac were so amazing!!! Juan Carlos was so energetic and really brought the group together, giving us a team name and cheering us on even at 5 am (and earlier). I appreciated Isaac‘s information on all the plants we saw, his slingshot demonstration and his directions to make sure we stayed on the right trail. They were also really good about making sure we got all the photos we wanted and Juan Carlos filmed some pretty fun videos. They also had great information of all the Inca sites and culture. Juan Carlos also did a great job making sure both the Spanish speakers and English speakers in the group heard everything. The whole rest of the team was also so great, the porters worked really hard. Shoutout Francisco and Fabian (and so many more). They brought us warm water in the evening and did a great job setting up and taking down camp. Also our chef Mijail was fantastic and we were so well fed every night. Definitely had some tough days in the rain but they were always positive and helped us make it up and down all the mountains. Make sure to prepare for the rain! The ponchos they provided were nice for a bit but did soak through so if you have your own jackets and rain pants bring them! We were also glad we brought snack bars, they do provide a few snacks but I preferred my own. The altitude was certainly no joke so definitely plan on getting altitude medication and starting it before you arrive. They do provide pillows and washcloths so if that’s on your packing list no need to worry about that.
Amazing experience hiking the Inca Trail with Carlos and Yanelit. Extremely well organised, amazing food, campsites, views and beautiful visit to Machu Picchu. Thank you! Xxx
We had the most perfect experience with Carlos Arque and Yanelit. The porters are incredible, the food always a treat (Gregorio the best chef). Would highly recommend Alpaca Excursions any day!
I booked a 10+ day package with Alpaca including 4 day Inca Trail, 4 days in Amazon (Tambopata Ecolodge) and day trips to Rainbow Mountain & Sacred Valley. All airport and hotel transfers/pick ups were organised by Alpaca and came off seamlessly 100% of the time. The hard work& professionalism of Javier Alvarez & Reynaldo & their amazing team of chefs & porters i okay the Inca trail made the experience unforgettable. If you want a fantastic experience in Peru, please go with Alpaca, they are 100% locally run & deliver exceptional results.
Absolutely AMAZING experience!! Carlos Huillca Sayritupa and Isaac Gonzalez looked after us so well. Thank you, we will remember this forever ☺️
Juan Carlos Huillca Sayritupa our guide was fantastic. We were really well looked after and the whole experience was wonderful.
A truly once in a lifetime experience. We did the 5 day trek at a little slower pace and it was perfect. Our guides Sam and johan were so informative, encouraging when it got tough, and made us feel like a family. The food was incredible and shockingly fresh given we were camping in the mountains for several days. I would highly recommend!
Did the 5day 4 night Inca trail, amazing, a bit cold and rainy but would recommend. The best operator for this situation. I would keep some additional cash for tips and bathrooms.
