The Inca Trail with Explore Adventures Perú was the best trip of my life. The guide and team were knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. The food was amazing. The hike and the sites were breathtaking. Would recommend it to anyone with the spirit of adventure

Itinerary
Day 1
1
This unforgettable 4 day adventure trip to Macchu Picchu begins with pick up from your hotel at 6:00 am. From there, we head towards the sacred valley. We will continue driving for approximately 2 hours to Abra Malaga Mountain, the starting point of the downhill biking. After safety tips and preparations by our professional tour guides, we will descend for 2 hours., passing through small villages, orchards, rivers, and streams, stopping briefly in the town of Huamanmarca and continuing on to Santa Maria, where we will have a delicious lunch. We will take a short rest and then prepare for an exciting rafting excursion down the Vilcanota River. The rapid level varies depending on the time of year but never exceeds Level IV nor drops below Level II. We will return to our accommodation lodge in Santa Maria in the evening, where a hearty dinner will be waiting for us. The lodge offers comfortable rooms and a peaceful atmosphere to relax and unwind after an adventurous day.
Day 2
2
We will begin early in the morning after a hearty breakfast, climbing up the jungle mountains (not high altitude); this also will include a section of the authentic Inca trail. This climb provides beautiful landscapes, local culture, animals, coffee and coca plantations, and various native fruits such as bananas, avocados, pineapples, and passion fruit. We will stop for lunch in the town of Quellomayo, where we will also have time to relax in a lovely garden area with hammocks. We will continue on in our journey, passing through waterfalls and crossing hanging bridges, until we reach the hot springs of Cocalmayo. Here, we can relax in the natural pools surrounded by lush vegetation before heading back to our starting point. This experience will allow us to immerse ourselves in the beauty of the Peruvian jungle while also supporting local communities along the way.
Day 3
3
After breakfast we will take a thrilling adventure flying through the air, 150 meters above the ground. This adventure includes 5 zip-lines on some of the highest, fastest and safest zip lines out there! Adventurers are securely harnessed and attached by pulley to the double cable anchored in 2 different mountains and canyon. You will zip line from one mountain to the other fast enough to feel like you are flying. There are 2,500 meters of cable in five sections. The longest section is 600m long and the highest is 180m high. The maximum speed reachable is 70km/h. You can chose to fly them straight or show off the dare devil within by diving head first or upside down…be creative! After our thrilling morning, we will drive to Hydroelectric, where we will have lunch. In the afternoon we will continue our journey, walking near the train rail to get to Machupiccu town (Aguas Calientes). We will have dinner and stay our last night in a hostel, at the foot of the great Machupicchu.
Day 4
4
We will leave at 4:30 am to hike to Machu Picchu (one and a half hours) in order to arrive in time to appreciate the magnificent city as the sun is rising. Your guide will provide a two and a half hour walking tour of this lost city; shedding light issues pertaining to the design of their housing and family living situations. After your guided walking tour you have the choice to continue exploring, or chose to climb Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain (additional $10 USD) to gain an even better panoramic view of the entire area (this is an extra 45 minute walk and with limited availability, please arrange this when you book the tour with the office). We will return back by foot to Aguas Calientes, where you will take the train to Ollantaytambo and then be picked up and bussed back to Cusco.

Joel was amazing with helping us book the Inca Jungle Trek! He was very friendly and explained the whole process to us. He answered all of my questions in detail and care. He was even there throughout the trip if we were having any issues. Will be back to book with Joel for my next trip - he is very passionate and knows what he is doing. Going on the trip with Evert was amazing, highly recommend booking with Southern Peru, you won’t regret!
We travelled as a family , with our kids 12 and 14 in April 25, having been recommended this tour and tour company by friends who travelled with them last year. Joel and his team arranged everything from meeting us on arrival into Lima to our dept from Peru. As well as the Inca Jungle tour we booked a personalised trip to include Lima and desert, the incredible Inca Jungle Tour, and to finish a trip to the Amazon. From start to finish everything was arranged to highest standard. Our guides Erick and Robie were amazing, and knew everything about the Inca culture and traditions, as well as Erick's incredible skills in photography, and Robie's wisdom and knowledge of Inca trails and traditions. As the Inca Jungle tour was generally designed for adults they were always checking in how the kids were, and ensuring any planned activities were safe for them, but ours are sporty and used to outdoor activities, and aware of the need to be safe in adventure activity settings, and so they took it all in their stride. Every day held new adventures and activities, so we got a whole range of experiences in one trip - from sandboarding in the desert, to mountain biking, ziplining, rafting and hiking in the Inja jungle, as well as experiencing the incredible heat and ecology of the Amazon Jungle. The Inca jungle tour was definitely the highlight, with its fantastic mix of culture and activities. I would definitely recommend same to anyone who enjoys adventure, including if you have teens who are open to new adventures! Thank you Joel, Erick and Rodie for the family holiday of a lifetime.
Was a great tour, Joel was very helpful thought out the entire process. Had a hiccup with the guide but Joel the manager was very quick and attentive to assist. Overall was a great experience and would definitely recommend. Loved the variety that this tour offered, something different to the typical hikes to Machu Picchu
Although we didn’t book our tour directly with this company, we had the pleasure of meeting its owner on the first day of our Inca Jungle Trek. We hit it off right away! He captured GoPro footage throughout the trip and kindly promised to share it with us, even creating a fun video of our adventure for his Instagram. The Jungle Trek itself was an amazing experience, packed with a variety of activities—mountain biking, rafting, hiking, ziplining, and, of course, trekking to Aguas Calientes and visiting Machu Picchu. We highly recommend this trek for anyone seeking a diverse and adventurous way to explore Machu Picchu.
Rolan Leon Sunoco was our guide and he proved to be a wonderful guide. He was very helpful, patient and knowledgeable. Rolando explained everything on the way and gave us information about flowers and birds that we encountered on the way. We would love to take more trips with Rolando.
We had the most amazing time trekking the Inca jungle 4 day trek with Jhimmy & the others in the group! Jhimmy was the best tour guide we have ever experienced on any trip. His passion and detail was truly amazing and made the experience 1000 times better. No question was ever silly and he spent time going through stories related to the trip to give us the best understanding. Thanks Jhimmy for the best trip!! Amy & Charlie :)
Amazing 4 days experience with one wonderful guy and guide named Jhimmy. He has been so kind, sharing his knowledge all the way, and we had so much fun with him thanks to his sense of humor, and all the good moments we shared with him. We definitely recommend Jhimmy as a tour guide for this tour, best guide there is out there !!!
Just wanted to say that he did a really nice Job! Always addressable, eager to solve all problems, no matter what. Always patient, even if it comes to explaining something the third time. His humorous style was overall really pleasent to experience and he made perfect choices for places to eat. I wish him all the best 🙌🏻
Adventure of a lifetime. My Mom (64) and I (23) took this tour in March of 2024 and had the most incredible experience. Our tour guide Eduardo was awesome and really brought our trip to the next level. The excursions were well selected and a whole lot of fun. If you are going to Peru you have to give these guys a call. The only recommendation I have is to book a nicer hotel in Aguas Calientes if you are more of an upscale traveler. The hostel they offer is nice enough but upgrading to the Sumaq was absolutely worth the price. Thanks again to Eduardo.
It was an amazing adventure lead by Eduardo!! A trip of a Lifetime with my son on PeruHop buses thru Peru. We took the 3 day Inca adventure. From beginning in Cusco, traversing thru the Andes and ending on Machu Picchu. Eating at the local sots and Gabriels along the Inca trail was spectacular, Eduardo introduced us to amazing places and sights Thank you Eduardo !!
This tour had it all from hiking through the jungle, zip lining over canons, mountain biking and rafting. Peru Explorers catered for our every need and used the best facilities throughout. Peru is a beautiful county with amazing friendly people, a lot of who survive on very little so keep this in mind when staying in homesteads and eating in rural villages. Take things at a steady pace as altitude sickness is no fun. We were very fortunate to have Jhimmy as our personal guide for 4 days. He was excellent. His knowledge about plants and wildlife knows no limits and his passion for Inca history and his country made us respect and love this special place even more.
The logistics were impeccable and well communicated, the gear (bikes, safety gear, rafts, zip-line harnesses) were all top quality. Best of all was our guide Eduardo Garcia who was extremely knowledgeable on the history of the region, shared things we would have missed had he not pointed them out to us, an excellent communicator in English, pro-active, open to answering difficult questions, encouraging, warm and friendly. Excellent value for the money and an easy way to get the most out of your time with a single decision - they handled everything and even came to the hotel the night before for a pre trip briefing. Quick and responsive customer service. Highly recommended.
We did the 3-day adventure tour with Southern Peru explorers. This included downhill mountain biking, white water rafting, zip lining, a 10K trek to Aguas Calientes and finally the summiting and exploring of Machu Picchu. We had a fantastic experience and a lot of fun on all of the activities. Jhimmy, our guide, was excellent. He was extremely informative and passionate about the Incan and Quechuan culture. We could not recommend this experience any more if you prefer some adventure and activities whilst still experiencing Machu Picchu in its fullest.
Took the 3 day Inca Jungle Trek woth Jihmmy he was an amazing guide as he reallu embeded himself in the group of 5 young goofy people we had so much fun the bike ride from mountains to Jungle is amazing and the other activities along the way were just as fun! The food is amazing along the way with something for everyone! Would recommend doing!
We just finished the four day Inca Jungle adventure tour! To say it was amazing would be an understatement! The tour was only the two of us, which made it even more tailored to us specifically. The accommodations were incredible, from staying with a local family on the mountain, to staying at the base of Machu Picchu. All the of the food was delicious, authentic and there was so much of it. The adventure activities were fun, safe and really added to the whole experience. Last but certainly not least, a huge shout out to our guide Luis. He was beyond fantastic! He has so much knowledge of the area, and was clearly very passionate not just about his job, but his culture. He shared so much fascinating information about the local customs and history with us. He really tailored the experience for us, moved at our pace and always answered and explained anything we were curious about. I would definitely recommend this tour to anyone looking for a slightly less ‘conventional’ way to experience Machu Picchu!
The trip was amazing! We got to see some incredible sights and meet some wonderful locals. Our guide Luis, was the best person you could ask for!! He has a wealth of knowledge of the area and the history. He made sure we felt comfortable along the way and anything we needed he was there to help.
Amazing way to experience Machu Picchu if you're a little adventurous. I really recommend doing the 4 day version and not the 3 days. The day of walking flies by, as there are many interesting stops and on this day you will really get a lot of information from the guide about how the locals live, and we got to roast our own coffee. Our guide Eduardo was amazing!
Had an awesome time on this tour. Would really recommend if you’re into activities and hiking. Water rafting was great fun. José really made the trip for me he is so lovely and kind and informative. Thank you so much. I want to come back and do other trips with José.
We had an amazing time on our 4 day jungle trek, with such fan activities, amazing scenery and a fantastic guide - Jose! He was so insightful and knowledgable about every part of the area and was also so clear about everything we were doing and we had the best time ever. Thank you again Jose!
I recently enjoyed a 4-day jungle tour to Machu Picchu with a English-speaking guide. The trip included exciting activities like jungle biking, white-water rafting, thrilling zip-lining, and, of course, Machu Picchu. Our guide was friendly and knowledgeable, sharing insightful information about the history and cultural significance of Machu Picchu. I recommend this tour to fellow adventure seekers. With a friendly guide, thrilling activities, and the magic of Machu Picchu, it's a must-do in Peru.
Ok so this was one of the best trips of my life. I have to admit I really put our tour guide Jhimmy in a tough spot. The day before my flight to Peru I broke my ankle. And the company as well as Jhimmy went above and beyond to make sure I can participate in absolutely everything I clear booked. Jhimmy was very protective and helped me through all the steps. The events I couldn’t participate in due to being broken, Jhimmy found alternate things for me to do. He was very well connected which made finding alternate modes of transportation easy with my limitations. He was also very knowledgeable regarding the area and history. You could tell he is proud of his heritage. I would always go on any trips with him.
The tour was amazing, special thanks to our guide Jhimmy who was the best for explaining history, local knowlegde and many more. Biking, rafting, zipline, inca trail and visit to matchu picchu was very well organized. You definitly see us again!
I booked a tour with Southern Peru explorers for the Jungle tour in Feb and had such a great time. Jimmy was our guide and I couldn’t recommend him more, he made the whole trip so memorable. He was patient when it was raining and we where going slowly but also a great laugh throughout the 4 days. He would stop regularly to explain the culture, why the trek is important and give us a taste of fresh fruit hanging from the branches. The tour included biking in the mountains, water rafting (the most fun), a home stay and Macchu Picchu ofcourse. It was super fun everyday. Thank you Jimmy.
The four day Inca Jungle Adventure Trek tour that I booked with Southern Peru Explorers was a delight from beginning to end. The hiking, mountain biking, river rafting, and zip lining components of the tour were exhilarating, as was the exploration of Machu Picchu and optional extension I booked to hike up to the summit of Huayna Picchu. Time spent hiking on the beautiful Inca Trail was taken at a comfortable pace, and our guide Jhimmy provided both friendship and extensive cultural and historical background along the way. Jhimmy and Southern Peru Explorers really made an exceptional effort to make the tour special and enjoyable. I will remember it as an incredible lifetime experience.
Amazing and unforgettable experience! We booked the short Inca trail experience with Southern Peru Explorers 2 Months before our trip to Peru. We started from Cusco with a private car, which took us until Ollantaytambo. There we started the Inca trail from the km “104” with our wonderful guide Jimmy. From there we made an incredible 8-hour-trekking through the Andean Selva:the mix of ancient Inca ruins and the uncontaminated nature was unforgettable. Our guide Jimmy took the time during the trekking to explain us literally everything about the Inca culture, traditions and about the microclimate of the Andean forest. I will never forget his lesson on the top of the breathtaking site of Intipata! Through the “puerta del sol” of the inca trail we reached Machu Picchu walking on circuit 1. I don’t think it could be minimally be compared to arriving to the site directly by bus: the forest and the fog suddenly disappeared, showing us the word famous Wayne Picchu!after a very long tour we went to Aguas calientes where we had dinner at the “Indio feliz”, highly recommended with its generous and tasty portions. The day after we made the circuit 3, covering the Citadel of Machu Picchu. Our guide Jimmy talked us about the story and civilization, and it was fundamental to deeply understand where we were. It was a wonderful idea to split the visit in two days in order to enjoy more this unique site. After the visit we took the pedestrian route to come back again to Aguas Calientes, we took the Inca train until Ollantaytambo where a car waited to take us to Cusco! Southern Peru explorers was efficient and professional. Our guide Jimmy, who tailored the experience on our wills and capacities, made our visit really unforgettable!
We travel every year in October with a group of high school friends. This year we chose something from my bucket list, One of the wonders of the world. This was no ordinary trip to say the least, it was pre-planned lodging, food set, and adventures every day. Ride share and prepaid tickets in advance, so no worries at all. Literally no thinking, just fun! We usually just sit at a beach and hangout and explore wherever we travel to. Not this trip, highly recommend. Bike ride down the mountain in the clouds. What a trip! Bring rain proof clothes/shoes you will be soaked. River rafting was something new for me. Looks scarier when looking at the level 3 rocky water going in. But once you’re on the water it’s great! Bring deet 50+ the mosquitoes here are brutal. Zip lining was fun and loved the tight bridge walking. This was a lovely local experience with culture surrounding you, long scenic train walk to Machu Picchu and history of the Inca trail. FYI the Inca hike is pretty brutal (2 hour) up hill with high elevation, wanted to die. Glad I did it tho. The great views from the top make up for sweat, tears, and mosquito bites. Highly recommend! Had professional photos taken the entire trip. What a great memory to share. Need to come back for Rainbow mountain ran out of time. Trip literally flew by. Thank you!
This review is for JHIMMY! He was beyond amazing. He loves getting to know his guests and really enjoys sharing his country with people. He's also extremely kind and patient. I wasn't the fastest hiker in our group but Jhimmy would wait with me and we'd chat while I caught my breath. I couldn't recommend him or this tour more. Great job Jhimmy. More guides should aim to be like you. :-)
Super fun trip with our guide Jhimmy! We had initially planned on doing a much longer trip but due to illness we did the 2-Day Inca Trail. The hike was moderate but we took a lot of photo breaks. We got to see Machu Picchu from above to get those classic landscape views, but also explore the site itself and learn about the civilization. Our one complaint was the train ride home; we took the train to Poroy and then a bus to Wanchaq Station, when it would've been faster and easier to just get off in Ollantaytambo and take a colectiva or taxi back to Cusco. Overall, a really great trip, and I'd book with this company again.
From the moment we left Cusco on the 4 day Jungle Trek, David gave us 5 star treatment! On the first day we loved the cycle down the mountain with top class safety equipment and amazing views, we couldn’t have asked for a better start to the tour! David led us and our driver followed and we took plenty of photo stops along the way. David went to the extra effort of going ahead of us for one part to take a spectacular video of us cycling past! Lunch at our beautiful homestay set in the middle of a jungle overlooking the beautiful canyon and river was amazing (in fact all lunches and dinners were 3 courses and full of healthy, tasty dishes!) After lunch we went white water rafting in the river and enjoyed jumping in and taking photos at a waterfall. That evening at The homestay (lovely private lodges), Ricardo gave us a local tour of the trees and plants and explained to us about the importance of the coca leaves and other plants and trees the locals use for various reasons. We learned how to make real coffee by hand and then we were treated to a healing ceremony with a local Shaman who taught us about his beliefs and the power of Mother Earth (this was optional but we would highly recommend it!) The lodges were set in a beautiful location and there were lovely hammocks to relax in to take in the spectacular views. The following day, due to a knee injury, I was unable to do the hike over the mountain to Santa Teresa. David quickly adapted offering us a number of different options to get to Santa Teresa. He even organised a natural remedy for my knee which resulted in it being perfect the following day! David then brought us to the amazing hot springs (which are an absolute must!). The following morning, after breakfast, David brought us zip lining. It was so much fun! There were 4 zip lines and a rope bridge and the safety equipment was top notch. We were given harnesses, helmets and gloves and secured with 3 cables on each zip line. We loved doing superman and Spider-Man across the canyon! My husband wasn’t feeling well and again David organised to get electrolytes and later antibiotics and a number of different natural remedies which worked very well. David brought us for our 2 hour walk along the railway (with a stop for lunch en route) and shared lots of stories about the local plants and trees. When we reached Aquas Caliente, we upgraded to the 3 star hotel (which was an option at the start of the tour!) and it was definitely worth it! David brought us to a lovely restaurant for dinner and we were entertained by the local band ‘Pacha Mamma’. The following morning we were up early for Machu Picchu. David arranged for the hotel to give us an early breakfast and we arrived to Machu Picchu for sunrise. David’s knowledge of Machu Picchu was top class and it is every bit as amazing as everyone says it is! He knew exactly where, when and how to pose the best photos and went out of his way to ensure we were happy with them. My husband and I have absolutely no Spanish at all but David took his time to explain everything to us in English. We would highly recommend David as your guide when you book with Southern Peru Explorers!
Ideal tour to see some of the surroundings without having to hike for 4 full days. Puma was a nice guide who had a lot to say and adapts the pace well to the group. Machu Picchu was the perfect ending.
Inca Jungle Trek: Total Adventure with Southern Peru Explorers! I did the 4-day Inca Jungle tour with Southern Peru Explorers and it was a spectacular experience from start to finish. Joel helped me through the booking process and was very clear, friendly and professional. The guides were excellent: professional, attentive and always willing to help. Every activity was perfectly organized. The bikes were in very good condition and the descent was exciting. The rafting was pure adrenaline and the zipline exceeded all my expectations. The food throughout the tour was delicious, hearty and prepared very carefully, even in the middle of the mountain. Also, the scenery along the way is simply breathtaking, and getting to Machu Picchu at the end of the tour was the best reward. I recommend this experience to all who seek adventure, nature and culture in one trip. You can't miss it!
I really enjoyed the experience, it was three days full of adventures and incredible landscapes where I was able to take good photographs. The climate in the jungle is warmer than Cusco, which means you can feel at ease in the water! I loved the meals, very tasty food in the places we went and in Santa Teresa the views are spectacular (don't forget to try the pisco sour, delicious). There was even a chance to swim at night in the waters of Cocalmayo! The walk past the hydroelectric plant to Aguas Calientes was very beautiful too. I climbed the stairs to Machupichu, it's demanding but worth it (but optional). All of this would not have been possible without the support of our friendly and attentive guide, Jimmy, from Southern Perú Explorers.
The best trip of my life and the best tour guide I have ever found, Jhimmy. We went bike riding and the views were wonderful, as well as rafting and the zip line. Finishing at Macchi Picchu made it magical. Our guide knew a lot about Inca history and was a true explorer. Unbeatable
Thanks to this spectacular tour I felt so alive at 51 years old, emotions full of adrenaline and knowing that everything is possible with the right people AND with experience. a first-class organization: the hotels, the restaurants, the guides like Alexander and David, who bring out the best in one, with their experiences, motivations, sincerity in everything we have to do and what we must prevent so that everything is an adventure unforgettable and pleasant. Even though I put the guide David in trouble on two occasions, he knew how to handle it with patience and solve it quickly and efficiently, which I greatly appreciate. Thank you, thank you David! A very special thank you to Joel, an incredible person, very professional in what he does so that the entire tour turns out excellent!! for your clients and meet our needs satisfactorily, the truth is that it quickly inspired my confidence, thank you very much!! You are the best JOEL., my daughter, my niece, my sisters and husband. They also thank you for all the attention you showed to my entire family.
On recommendation, I contacted the Southern Peru Explorers agency for a group tour to Machu Picchu. My family and I decided to take the three-day Inca Jungle tour, which included adventure activities such as cycling and rafting. Honestly, I was worried because three girls accompanied us. minors, but Joel explained to us about how safe each activity was. Our guide David accompanied us during the three days of excursion, he is a connoisseur and passionate about the Inca culture, he really gave us information that we did not know about Machu Picchu; He was always attentive and took care of everything so that we could only enjoy our trip and thanks to David we had a great time!!!! I loved the restaurants and hotels they chose for our stay, especially the restaurant in Santa Teresa since you better enjoy a meal with your family and with a beautiful view. I would lack words to thank how kind Joel was with my family, he is a great person, you can see the experience he has when organizing trips of this type, 100% recommended. He also advised us about taking a private tour to Rainbow Mountain and having a pleasant experience and it was the best decision since thanks to this advice I was also able to see the Red Mountain and I took away a nice memory.
Very good tour, although instead of 4 days it was 3. We did not do the Zip line since none of us wanted to do it. The rest of the activities were very interesting, beautiful, good experience. The bike activity was very good and the rafting was spectacular, it's a shame it wasn't longer lasting. The organization of the days, transfers, accommodations and meal scheduling was very well done. A resounding 10. As for the guide who accompanied us, at first he was a little serious, but then he relaxed and did very well. Excellent treatment on his part, in addition to informing us about everything in each part of the tour, he was 100% involved with us and helped with some problems that arose. As soon as we arrived at Machu Picchu, he put on his super professional suit and explained to us from beginning to end the entire history of the citadel. From Cartagena, Spain, I would like to convey to David and Joel my most sincere congratulations for the tour and the trip we took, I look forward to the next one because I will hire them again.
An unforgettable experience with our exceptional guide, Jimmy. I recently completed a two-day tour of the Inka Trail, culminating in the magical visit to Machu Picchu. We couldn't have asked for a better guide for this adventure. Not only is he deeply knowledgeable about Inca and Peruvian culture, but his passion for his country is contagious. His enthusiasm for the culture and history of Peru made the experience much more enriching. Jimmy has been able to convey his love for his country and Pachamama through his words and actions. I would recommend Jimmy as a guide to anyone wanting an authentic and enriching experience on the Inka Trail. Thanks for everything and until next time!
More than I expected everything went perfectly to plan with a perfect Gits JHIMMY definitely recommended and top experience with this company
An amazing experience? 4 days on the way to Machu Pichu, one day of cycling and three days of walking accompanied by Jhimmy, our guide, who was attentive to every need and was explaining and telling us history and geography of the place. Their support and support was very important to overcome difficult stretches. Thank you Jhimmy for your help and support. I felt taken care of and enjoyed the tour!
