Itinerary
Explore Humantay Lake, one of Cusco’s most unforgettable day trips. Join a small group and leave your hotel at around 4:30 a.m. for a scenic drive to Mollepata, where a warm breakfast will be waiting. Continue to Soraypampa and begin the two-hour hike with your local guide. The climb becomes steeper near the top, but we keep a comfortable pace and take breaks whenever needed. The reward is incredible: bright turquoise water beneath the Humantay glacier, surrounded by some of the Andes’ most dramatic mountains. At 4,200 m / 13,779 ft, you’ll have time to rest, enjoy the view, and capture unforgettable photos. After a two-hour descent, return to Mollepata for a freshly prepared lunch, then relax on the drive back to Cusco. Hotel drop-off is around 6:00 p.m. Transportation, breakfast, lunch, a professional guide, and trekking poles are included.

Amazing day out with a very interactive guide Romario. He helped out whenever we needed, very accommodating & personable. Would use him again 100%!
Washington was thorough, communicative, and helpful throughout the full day experience. Had tools such as trekking poles to help us, and thoroughly explained the history and importance of the location of Humantay Lake
There are no words that about Humantay Lake! It was an amazing experience and just jaw dropping. Our guide David was awesome! He was knowledgeable about the hike. He helped with getting a horse for my mom to ride up. He was patient and helpful to my mom, as it was a hike up to the lake and back down to the base. He taught us Inca traditions. The length of stay was perfect. The breakfast before and lunch after the hike was an authentic and delicious meal. David was personable, supportive and overall an excellent guide. I was glad to have him guide us to the lake. Thank you!
I would love to recognize our travel advisor Acdiel from TreXperience. From the moment I reached out for information about the Salkantay & Humantay lake trek, he has been incredibly kind, informative, patient and helpful with my planning and decision making. Initially wanting to add Machu Picchu to my plans, Acdiel came up with a plan and sent me an itinerary straight to my email that would have been the only way to make the impossible visit to the ruins work out last minute as every circuit is booked through September. I appreciated his honestly and advice & also patience as I decided on an alternative route to the Salkantay trek for me and my partner. Without hesitation he sent me a PDF packed with information for the new journey. He answered all the little questions I had with a prompt response time and never seemed bothered by all my questions. It can be stressful planning a trip, but having people that are good hearted like Acdiel made the experience wonderful, the best customer service I have experienced and we are looking forward to our trip next week! I wish everyone was as helpful as him, TreXperience is beyond lucky to have him on their team.
Pamela was great! Hiking in high altitude is not easy, but she was patient and helpful. She explained everything we need to know about the mountain and surrounding areas. It was an awesome experience.
Our guide Jason went above and beyond to make the day great. He was patient and knowledgeable and made for a highlight of our trip.
I had an amazing experience with our tour guide Toribio in Peru. He was incredibly knowledgeable about the history, culture, and hidden stories .His passion for the Inca history truly came through. The guide was also very friendly, patient, and well-organized. He made sure I felt comfortable and engaged, and he handled the itinerary smoothly from start to finish. Thanks! I was able to appreciate Peru on a much deeper level. I highly recommend this guide to anyone visiting Peru — they turned a great trip into an extraordinary one!
Great tour, everything was organized for you. Our guide, Filio, had a great personality, was very patient when we needed breaks, and knowledgable. The day never felt rushed. Pick up and drop off included, as well as breakfast and lunch. Would recommend!
Roberto was such an amazing guide, highly recommend! He was very knowledgeable and got us to the lake early in the day so we were one of the first groups there.
We had a beautiful day and amazing views of the lake, glacier, and mountains. Our day started early with a great breakfast. We continued our journey to the trailhead and started our ascent. We had not adjusted yet to the high altitude and were a bit short of breath, but our guide Roger “Roya” was patient and encouraging. We had plenty of time for pictures. Lunch was above and beyond with first class table setting and delicious food! Great day!
Our family of 5 hiked beautiful Humantay Lake after acclimating to the elevation in Cusco for a day or two. Our guide Wilian Elvis led our group to a small hill overlooking a gorgeous deep blue glacial lake backed by snow capped mountains - best of all, we were isolated from the ever-present throng of tourists who had taken the... well-beaten path. This "tourist avoidance" was a regular theme on our tour - thanks to our expert guide Wilian Elvis, who literally ran up and down the trail despite the 14k ft elevation to ensure we all made it, coordinating with cheerful and attentive Sharon and the fresh-legged sobrino Jaime. After descending the trail, our guides helped us wash up and then our chef cooked our group an amazing multi-course picnic lunch with refreshing chicha morada. The (cooked) chicken ceviche was amazing, and even the presentation was A few tips: - The hike starts out quite cold, but warms up quickly when the sun hits the valley - Sunscreen is a must - The trail is steep, and the altitude is breath-taking (12k- 14k feet), but with a slow pace, even the cardiac-challenged in our group (like myself) made it up - The drive to the lake is quite twisty, so if you are prone to motion sickness, you may want to take precautions
Hiking to Humantay Lake is something our family will never forget. The hike is fun; the lake and glacier views are outstanding and the pictures are amazing! Our guide Gary and our chef Bertrand took excellent care of us! We had breakfast at a restaurant along our way and an unbelievable, hot meal inside a tent for lunch. How Bertrand was able to prepare such a meal outdoors without a proper kitchen amazed us. Gary is a fun and entertaining guide who is also supremely kind and considerate. He looked after each person in our group that consisted of fast hiking young adults and slower hikers. He took many photos and knew good spots for getting good shots. I highly recommend this all-day hiking trip!
Our day started early, but it was definitely worth the effort. We started with a picnic breakfast (amazing Peruvian spread) with a breathtaking view of the mountains. Our guide, Katie, was so kind and knowledgeable, giving us the history of the land, people, and culture throughout the day. The hike itself was no joke. This was the first time my friend and I had hiked at such a high altitude. We thought we were in good shape, but we quickly found that it didn’t matter. The altitude kicked our butts for sure, but it was all worth it once we reached the top. The crystal blue/green lake is absolutely stunning! Everything about the day was exactly was I was looking for—nature, challenge, peace, and gratitude. Would recommend this tour to anyone.
What an amazing experience! We were going to cancel this trip as we were concerned that we wouldn’t make it. Thanks first to Alvaro, who rang us personally and put our fears to rest. A huge thank you to Filio. Without his patience and care along the trail, we would not have made it. We will forever remember reaching Lake Humantay. It was a beautiful experience. Filio shared his knowledge of Inka culture and plant use. We cannot thank him enough. Last but not least, breakfast and lunch were superb. Thank you Euloterio and all the support staff. Well done TreXperiece.
If this trip fits into your budget, it is worth it. If you have a lower budget, there are cheaper offerings. Focus on getting the best guide, they make the difference. Our tour guide Leo made this trip worth while. He showed us the best spot to view the lake and see its colours. Additionally he told us about local customs: the respect for the mountains, religion and the importance of coca leaves. We had our own little ceremony near the lake. This was followed by an amazing lunch, freshly prepared on the mountain.
William Elvis was an amazing guide with spectacular knowledge of Incan history, language, and the Spanish conquest! They were able to hike up and down several mountains with a smile on their face ☺️. The food that the porters and chefs carried and cooked was amazing and almost unrealistic how they were able to prepare that stuff way up there! I highly recommend Trexperience for your next adventure! -Jason V
Felix took such great care of us on our way up to Humantay Lake! He’s also a darn good time. The ride from cusco up to “base camp” was breathtaking and when we reached the top of the trail he introduced us to his culture and mountains. It was very special. He’s been hiking these trails since he was 14. Our small party had another group of travelers and he gave each of us unique attention and guidance. Spending the day looking at this land through Felix’s eyes will be a powerful, beautiful memory for us.
Great trip with amazing views. Charly was a fantastic guide and offered a wealth of information on local area and history. Food was incredible. Calling it a picnic lunch doesn’t do it justice. Recommend using horses at least part of way for the experience and save wear and tear.
Carlos recommended going early so we could see it before the tourist bus's get there. It was such a good idea as we had the whole place to our self! All up the hike Carlos was telling us interesting stories and when we got back we got to have a traditional underground purivian BBQ that we helped cook! It was so much fun! I highly recommend his Humantay lake tour! you wont be disappointed!
I did the tour to Humantay Lagoon with Elias and it was really great. I had a lot of fun, all the time I felt taken care of and gap experience was amazing. Elias is a great guide, took some spectacular photos and managed to make this tour an unforgettable experience. Ron the driver also very skilled to drive and everything worked smoothly.
The walk is not as heavy as I thought, our Washington Guide very attentive throughout, always telling us about the history of the place.
We got the best Guide possible, Maribel is amazing, she explained us super in detail all the details of the lagoon and also many others related to the Inca culture. It made us feel super welcome and was certainly the Best Guide I had in Cusco, if you do any tour with Trexperience ask about Maribel, you will not regret taking the best photos. In addition to her we went with Danilo our driver who had the best music and always talking with us very kindly, Anderson and Pedro, our cooks also did a spectacular job and everything with a super seasoning. Widely recommended this experience but I think the best of all was the team we shared with and if that was not enough this group tour turned out to be private because we were the only ones:)) I can not tire of recommending to my guides and Trexperience. Thank you so much for everything
Lovely place! Difenten options to get to the Lake; Reny's attention and Exclente information!!! The picnic a luxury!!
Very good experience! The agency's staff has always been very attentive to me and my people. I hope to return soon, because the place is awesome! I highly recommend it.
Breakfast and food were delicious with that view, our guide very nice, everything I loved!
I did the short Inca trail with the guide Sara, it was an incredible experience, in addition to very attentive and friendly, she knows a lot about the history of the place and left us a lot of the will on the whole journey! Note a thousand, amei, super indicate Saritha! Gracies
We just returned from a tour of Umantay Lagoon and our Guide Tom was extraordinary, the tour was well organized from when we made the reservation, until the end demonstrating impeccable professionalism and at the same time we liked the part in which the guide told us about all the social programs that the travel agency carries out to help the children of the communities. We recommend taking this agency are very serious and responsible and the Service is impeccable.
