Humantay Lake Full Day Hike

Had an absolutely fantastic time hiking Humantay Lake with guide Alhy!! He was extremely friendly, encouraging, and took many beautiful photos of us along the way. 10/10 recommend!

This was a long hike and I would consider extremely hard. We had Isabel (Isa) as our tour guide. I want to express my gratitude towards her she was amazing. Very patient and attentive. She was constantly making sure we were okay. I wouldn't have been able to get up there if it wasn't for her. She was very knowledgeable on the history of the lake and was very informative as well. Shout out to Isabel (Isa) she was great!!!

This trip was so incredible! A few things to be mindful of is the time element, as this lake is roughly 3 hours away from Cusco, so we left at 4:00 AM and got back at around 4 PM after the hike. Breakfast and lunch were included, but definitely bring snacks for during the hike. The hike itself can be challenging and hiking poles are recommended. The hike took us about 3 hours up and 2 hours down, and most of the trail is at a 35-40 degree slope filled with scree, so pretty slippery and hard on the knees. I had some chocolate to keep my energy up and would recommend a full water bottle with electrolyte solution too. Before the main uphill section, there is a horse farm where you can rent a horse to help take you up if you wish, which is a nice option if you want, I think it was around 80-100 soles. The lake itself was beautiful and the reflection of the mountains in the water was an amazing sight to see. There were lots of people at the lake, so the earlier you go the better your visit will be due to less crowds. I did it as part of a small group tour with new friends and doing it with people was so much fun (overcome and endure the hike together, we could motivate each other and encourage others). I really enjoyed my experience! A hard but great day hike!

We had Luz leading our hike and she was amazing. She made sure everyone in the group was comfortable, checking in with us on the ride there, and staying with us to encourage us throughout the hard hike. She was the best!!

Loved this, but it is very challenging! I am not an experienced hiker but am very in shape and former college basketball player. You do have the option to ride a horse/mule up to the top though. The view is worth it. The tour was great and good value for your money, with breakfast and lunch included at a buffet that was excellent. Our tour guide, Luz, did a great job and explained everything about the lake to us. Would recommend to others

I did a hike through Humantay lake with Judith! It was well organized, positive, and a great experience. Judith is knowledgeable about the site & trail. Also, Judith was so motivating and positive. It was great because this was a very challenging hike and having someone there to set a pace and support our group was wonderful. It was one of my favorite parts on my trip of Peru! Judith also took beautiful photos on our phones for us.

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our hike to Humantay Lake in April, but found the hike to extra challenging because of mudslides in the area, as well as the effects of altitude sickness. Our guides, Roland and Ronald - were great! We would recommend this hike and trip to others - but be prepared for a challenge!

The hike was definitely challenging because of the altitude. But our group had a great time! Judy was an awesome guide and the views were incredible. Our group hired private chefs for us and made breakfast before our hike and had lunch ready afterwards, that was an incredible bonus!

The Humantay Lake hike was definitely challenging, but the views and atmosphere while hiking and at the top made it worth it. Bernao guided us on the Humantay Lake trail. He was super patient with me as a slow hiker, and did a wonderful job explaining the different plants and the history of the area. I learned so much. The views were absolutely stunning as well. It was a long day but definitely worth it and I would 100% recommend!

Miguel was a great guide. He helped us set meaningful intentions for the hike and encouraged us to get to the top no matter how slow we needed to take it or if we needed to go by horse. It was a tough hike, but definitely worth it. It was really beautiful and we had great weather and views throughout the whole hike!

The trip was very well organized. We were picked up from our hotel and brought to breakfast before heading to the trailhead. The hike was a long one and definitely not easy but the views of the lake were absolutely worth it. We did end up taking horses up after hiking about half of the trail. Miguel was our trip leader and he was incredible! Super friendly and very motivating the entire way. He definitely made the trip that much more enjoyable!

Loved this Hike and Ronald was a great guide! If you’re not used to the altitude it is an adjustment especially with the incline, but Ronald helped us navigate even the tricky portions of the terrain (a detour to avoid a recent landslide) and made it an enjoyable experience. Not to mention he took the best pictures!

The 7 mile round trip hike to Humantay Lake was challenging given the steep incline and high elevation but the beautiful view at the top was worth it. You can pay to ride a horse up for the steepest part if desired. Ronald was a helpful guide and took great pictures of everyone at the top.

I did this hike with a small group last week. We had Ronald as our guide. We started in Cusco and Ronald picked us up from our hotel. We drove a bit and then stopped for breakfast before arriving at the trailhead. Once we arrived, Ronald distributed walking sticks and showed us how to use them. He also went over some safety reminders and tips. During the hike, he was positive and encouraging, and also made sure everyone in the group was safe and having fun. It was a challenging hike due to the altitude, but the views were worth it. Ronald also made sure everyone in the group got good pictures at the lake. On our descent, one member of the group had a minor issue with the altitude, and Ronald was quick to respond and handled the situation calmly and professionally, and she was able to finish the hike. Overall a really amazing hike, and we were all happy to have Ronald as our guide. He was very knowledgeable about the lake and the area. I would definitely take another tour with him as the guide.

This hike was an unforgettable experience and our guide Juan Carlos made it even better. From encouraging us along the way to teaching us the history of the lake and area once we reached the top, he made the day trip absolutely worth it.

The dark turquoise color of the lake with the glacier overhanging it, made for a one of a kind view. As I was still adjusting to the altitude, I did need to stop and catch my breath quite a few times, but I enjoyed the chance to push myself. It was well worth it in the end.

Had an absolute incredible experience. The weather was perfect which made for excellent photos. Judy was my tour guide, and I could not recommend her more. I experienced some troubles with the altitude coming from Florida, and Judy was encouraging and patient. She knew a lot about the area and all the best photo spots.

Talk about a challenging but super rewarding hike! Our guides Luz and Ruth were THE BEST and I highly recommend going with them! They were not only knowledgeable about the area but very encouraging and helpful throughout the duration of the hike! The views won’t disappoint either and are 100x more breathtaking than the photos!
